I use the best cook book of all time. Its the king/queen of cook books..... it is of course Joy!
For those who dont know it by just "joy" it is "The Joy of Cooking" and has been around for many years. The newest edition is best. Id recommend it to everyone!

When I got married, a neighbor gave me the Fannie Farmer Cookbook, which I still have. It has been redone several times in the intervening years, but I find my old one--which is taped together!--is great for questions about basics.

Good Morning All I got kind of an early morning wake up call this morning. Ir was about 130 in the form of a very noisy vehicle.

To day is the last day of advance polls. I worked with some real awesome people. Hopefully there are some long time friendships there.

My next challenge is to sell popcorn as well as poinsettia as fund raisers for DS Music Foundation. They are doing this fund raiser to raise money for their trip to Seattle in the spring. hugs emoticon

I'm a youngster, so I have more limited cookbooks to choose from. At 16, I got "Teens Cook" for my birthday, some pretty cool stuff in there but no nutrition info listed. At 18 when I moved in with my fiance, I decided to be all domesticated and such so I bought the classic Betty Crocker Cookbook. But I probably use my HungryGirl books the most, especially 200 under 200. I love it!

I love the weight watchers magazine cookbooks. But have to say Betty crocker and the joy of cooking is always the go to books....

I have tried so hard to make it to the kitchen to refrigerate leftovers in single portion containers after it cools BUT my fiance usually makes it there first for 2nds, 3rds, etc. I made Chili in the crock pot on Saturday and it should have been enough to have at least another meal out of it on Sunday for lunch but it was all gone by the end of the night because he finished it before I could put it away! emoticon

I typically find most of my recipes online and then tweak them to my liking and add them to my own cookbook (only the best recipes make it into mine).

Otherwise I've really loved using the Rachel Ray 30 Minute Get Real Meals and 200 Low-Carb Slow Cooker Recipes: Healthy Dinners That Are Ready When You Are! by Dana Carpender

I'm a BIG fan of my crock pot and try to use it at least once a week.

I like HG too. I have a few other books that I like as well but it is usually only a few recipes that I will use consistently. I like your idea of taking your favorite recipes and creating your own book. How exactly did you set up your book? Are you able to track these recipes on the nutrition tracker?

I have a much-loved, dogeared, scribbled-in copy of "Best of Cooking Light" and I'm rarely disappointed. I also have this little paperback "best cookies" cookbook from who-knows-where. But every single cookie is delicious. And fattening :-) My Southern Living cookbook is tried and true for everything fattening.

Hey all!

Personally I love the Alton Brown cookbooks. (Good Eats the early years, I'm just here for the food, etc) I like Good Eats and watching it gives me a lot of cooking ideas.

I'm also crazy about bread. I know a lot of people who say that bread isn't a good diet food, but it works for me. And bread I make tends to be a lot healthier than store-bought. 'Bread' by eric treuille is a good cookbook that I just found.

That's my 2 cents!

I am new here, but my husband and I both love to cook and have a massive cookbook collection. It includes many of the titles I have seen here and several "locally produced" cookbooks. We also collect recipes from family, friends, and the internet.
Some of my favorites are publications by Southern Living, Marcella Hazan, Julia Child, and Cook's Illustrated/America's Test Kitchen. And for a decadent dessert: The Baking Book from Rosie's Bakery in Boston.
I enjoy the science of food and cooking as much as the flavors.
Needless to say, I love to eat....part of my problem!

I am now starting to take my favorite recipes and make a book of my own because the books I collect are beginning to take over my space. LOL I collect recipes online as well. I have three great cookbooks: The Joy of Cooking; Fannie Farmer; Good Housekeeping
I use the recipe calculator here to adapt and reduce calories. It is amazing how good something things taste if you know what to do and reducing calories and making smarter choices in preparing them.

I usually don't use a cookbook for anything except the cakes, cookies, candies, or pies that I make on special occasions. All my recipes for regular meals that we use routinely, we have in a family recipe book that we have printed out. So are most of the treats. On occasion, I will get out a couple of the diabetic cook books that we have and try new things.

I hardly ever use a cookbook - never for meals - most of it (cakes included) is from my head as in chuck some of this, a handful of that, and a bit of something else. Seems to work fine!

Oh man, where to begin... I really appreciate good food writing and discussion of technique and the chemistry of how ingredients work together over straight-up recipes. I love Nigella Lawson's "How to Eat" and "How to Be a Domestic Goddess" (forgive her for the silly title-- it really is a great one), Cynthia Roden's "Jewish Food", Mark Bittman's "How to Cook Everything" (and he means everything), Peter Rheinhart's "The Bread Baker's Apprentice", Cook's Illustrated Magazines are always wonderful, and food blogs, like orangette, are the cookbooks of the future. In that vein, I'll admit that I'm addicted to Tastespotting.com
