E-Bay came thru! I just won two cookbooks: a) one from 1917 AEF (world war 1 US Army)Field Cook's Manual b) 1943 USN 'Cooks and Bakers' School Instruction and recipe manual.
Now I just need to figure out how to adjust a recipe for 175 down to 4....?

My other favorite is the Family Circle Good Cook's Book. I've had it for years and read through it at least twice a year. It doesn't have recipes but is a general kitchen and food reference. I can read it cover to cover. I'm weird.

I have cook book "issues", Piles of them all over the place- I love to read cook books! I save a lot of recipes on my computer and in a 3 ring binder too. I also save my weekly menus. So if it's the first day of the cold weather season, I don't have to wrack my brain too much, I pull out old menus from last winter. I like Nigella Lawson's Forever Summer cook book - Moosewood cookbooks are always good and BHG/Betty Crocker for classic stuff. I took a cooking class when I lived in Italy and the teacher made us a handwritten cookbook- Mille Grazie Judy Witts-Francini wherever you are! I've memorized most of that one.

I just googled her, here she is!

it's an even split between "Simply in Season," "Sundays at Moosewood," and "Not Your Mother's Slow Cooker: Recipes for Two" at the moment...though I do a bit of searching online, too...but if I'm at a loss for what to make for dinner, I know I can find something between those three!

If I can't be a good example, then I'll just have to be a horrible warning. ~Catherine Aird

I've got a bunch of cookbooks (Rachel Ray, Barefoot Contessa, Everyday Italian, Tyler's Ultimate, WW, Betty) but I do a ton of online searching and asking people for recipes, so my favorite cook book is the one I've created using a 3 ring binder and those plastic protective sleeves.

I also love the mention about the one from Cooks Illustrated..I like the mag too..but it's neat to see the explanations also. Needless to say, I love Alton Brown's show on Food Network!

Any of the books published by Cooks Illustrated are good. My favorite is "The Best Recipe" I love to read about the science behind a recipe and Cooks does a great job with that. They will tweak a recipe until it's just right, and we get to read all their notes that got them there. Love the magazine too.

Recently it has been my Pillsbury Complete Book of Baking, and a newer Betty Crocker Cookbook (that's a couple of years old now). Alot of my meal ideas/recipes have been coming off the 'net.
I do have a Betty Crocker Picture Cookbook (the one that's a 3-ring binder) that belonged to my grandma, but don't know the publish date..nothing in there that says it. Rarely used anymore though..

This time of the year, I am into my crockpot for soups and stews, etc. I use my "Fix It And Forget It" cockpot cookbook and my "Not Your Mother's Slow Cooker Cookbook." I am always trying new things. Hubby had better speak up quick if he really likes something so I can mark it and cook it again. I like to watch Racheal Ray and I go to her website to pull from many of her recipes. I am adventureous when it comes to cooking so I am always trying new things. Just let me spot a new fruit or veggie that I have not used and the next thing you know it is on our plates.

When I bake I use the King Arthur Baking cookbook. It is a fun read too. I mostly use cookbooks as guides or ideas, rarely do I follow a recipe exactly. But I like my Moosewood and Silver Palate cookbooks the best.

When I entertain, I frequently turn to the Barefoot Contessa books. Not always healthy, but usually easy and excellent. When baking bread, I love my Baking Bread with Father Dominic books, and like lots of us, I use the internet now.

Although I do have several cook books and constantly clip recipes from magazines; I mostly use allrecipes.com if I need some new ideas. Most of my cooking ideas are just things that I make up based on something I've heard about or maybe saw on a cooking show and very rarely do I use an actual recipe.

I've been collecting cookbooks for 45 years and they take up over 30 linear feet of shelf space. No idea how many there are. I don't use the "classics" much anymore because of the high fat and sugar. Currently I'm using the internet a lot for new ideas, but still like "The Eating Well Rush Hour Cookbook" and "The Mayo Clinic Williams Sonoma Cookbook" and "Gourmet's Quick Kitchen" and "Bon Appetit's 30-Minute Main Courses." See a theme? :)

My mother's 1950s Betty Crocker is amazing, but it's hers, not mine.... I can wait to inherit it - rather have her around than the book!

For western cooking, I cook a lot from my head (done culinary school, so it's usually easy), but I often find myself using Food & Wine's recipes, too.

For Chinese recipes - Fuchsia Dunlop's Revolutionary Cuisine all the way!

I have over 300+ cookbooks (a guy thing) all of them are at fingertip reach, but here are the two that are currently getting a workout: 'The glycemic index Diet Cookbook' by Thompson, and 'Cuisine Minceur' by Guerard. The last one is classic French and Provenance recipes made low-cal and low-carb. So far neither has been a taste dissappointment. Highly recommend both!

I constantly use Christina Grays "Real Food for Real Life" And I also have about 30 cookbooks of different varieties written by JoAnna Lund of "Healthy Exchanges". Although JoAnna has passed away now from that dreadful breast cancer I went on a Healthy Exchanges Cruise with she and her husband Cliff and many other dieters and we had a wonderful time. If you can find any of her books it is well worth it to buy them. She has many, The diabetic's Healthy Exchanges, Healthy Exchanges Lifetime Plan,
Fast, Cheap & Easy, The Healthy Heart, Grandma's
Comfort Foods and that is just a few of them. All are wonderful.

I still use 'The Joy of Cooking', and also 'Betty Crocker's Cookbook'.

My 'old faithful' was The Joy Of Cooking, but have since turned to the internet and rarely use a cookbook anymore.

LETS ALL SEE WHAT COOKBOOKS ARE BEING USED BY THE TEAM. I THINK THIS WILL BE INTERESTING AS MANY COOKBOOKS AS ARE ON THE MARKET. MAYBE WE WILL INCREASE BOOK SALES FOR THE COOKBOOKS THIS WAY TOO AS WHO KNOWS EVERYONE MIGHT DECIDE THEY LIKE YOUR COOKBOOK ALSO.
