I use Daily Burn tracker they have it for Apple and Driod. The apple app you can enter the workouts and foods but doesn't have a scanner. It has pretty much the basic P90X workouts and your allowed 3 custom workouts for any P90X workouts not listed. The driod does have a scanner but can only enter the foods. You can upgrade it for $10 a month if you like.

Hi HYONLIFE,
I am on week 2, day 3 of P90X. For the strength workouts, I created custom workouts in the Fitness Tracker and named them to match the DVD. I just used the closest exercise in the list for each one (the guidebook lists each exercise on the DVDs). Now I can just choose that workout and enter the whole thing with one click. For the cardio workouts, just search for P90X and they have an entry there.
I am not very fit and I have to modify a lot of the movements. I track my modifications and reps on the P90X worksheets. That is where I can see some of my progress.
I use the Omron 100C HR monitor. I set the upper limit at 75% of my MHR. I like that I don't have to watch it. When it beeps to let me know I have exceeded my limit, I slow down for a few seconds until I am back inside the zone.
Good luck.

Hello!

I have the same question. I am starting W1D1 today and am wondering how I am going to track the workouts on the fitness tracker....

Any suggestions?

Hello! Do any of you track P90X workouts on the Fitness Tracker? I just started w1d1 yesterday and I've tried to piecemeal my workout together on my tracker. Maybe that's the only way to track this.
Anyway, happy to be in this group with you all!

Hahahaha they definitely won't!

Crane pose is so hard! My wife always likes to watch me try it so she can laugh as I fall face first into my yoga mat. I got it locked in once and held it for about 10 seconds until the sweat on my forearms and thigh/knee area caused me to slip out and tumble. That's the pose in 2 that makes me wanna kick the one dude. He does a handstand and comes out all graceful and it's more showing off than inspiring.

I'm not sure if they still do those tests. The poor boys don't stand a chance if she keeps this up. LOL! I've always been a tomboy, but she's way worse than I ever thought.

The hubby tries the crane pose everytime we do yoga, but no luck yet. We saw part of the P90X2 demo last night. Definitely gonna have to try it once we've mastered this one.

TXHRT, it's so true. I was thinking the other night actually that I hope I'm setting a good example by working out and I hope it sticks and lasts for her. Especially with how sedentary society seems to have grown over my 29 years, I'm sure it'll be moreso when our kids get older and hopefully some of those fitness values will stick.

I guess Yoga just makes you burn up SweetBoo! That is so awesome that she's doing pushups! Do they still do the Presidential Fitness Test in schools? She'll rock it if they do!

I'm sure your husband will concur with my quote I say when it comes to yoga, "I'm as flexible as a cinderblock!" It's the one exercise that I just want to throw something at the screen when I watch them do it. P90X2's demonstrators are worse! The dude who teaches Tony is in it and he does handstands and stuff and I just want to kick him.

Our son is 7 and our daughter is about to turn 5 in a couple weeks. We did Yoga tonight and when she found out there was no kicking or weights, she wasn't interested. She's got the squats down and she's working on the push-ups. My husband is right with you on the Yoga. He's so awkward with it.

According to the HRM tonight, I burned 1255. Either I bought a defective HRM or I just burn high.

That's pretty funny Joe! I believe that one of the most important parts of the kids wanting to interact is we are all setting examples to our children. My 2 yr old daughter has done similar things as what the both of you have described. I think its AWESOME! We as parents have such an impact on our children!

That's awesome! How old are the kiddos? It's funny how much that kind of stuff can be fun to kids but gets exahusting to adults hahaha.

The funniest thing my daughter's done to my yet was imitate me doing crescent pose then charge full speed into me with her arms up and knock me over. As it turns out, I'm awful at yoga to begin with so even a light breeze makes me wobbly in the simplest of poses and 21lbs charging into my torso at full speed dropped me like a bad habit!

The kids working out is hilarious! I saw a trainer most of last year and my son looked forward to the days he could go with me. He'd try to do everything I was doing. He'll work out with me every once in a while at home, but my daughter gets mad if she can't work out with me. She loves it. She's constantly walking around showing her muscles and telling me how strong she is. She keeps me in check too, asking when I get home if I made it to the gym for cardio. She's my mini-trainer.

792 with Core Synergystics tonight.

Thanks! As I've learned from our daughter, finding time to get a good workout in gets really hard with a newborn around. When they get a little older, though they participate. Our 19 month old runs around the room and acts along and cries to get up on the pullup bar hahahaha.

Yeah, that kenpo number sounds a lot more accurate! Probably was just an anamoly with the yoga night. I guess see what happens the next time you do yoga and if the same calorie count is shown it very well may be accurate!

I've only been using the HRM for a couple weeks. It seemed pretty steady til that one Yoga. Not sure what that was all about. Said I burned 694 with Kenpo tonight. That I can believe. The big number on Yoga, not so much.

Congrats on the little one coming!!

That is awesome that you're doing the program with your husband! That will come in big as you get further along since you'll have someone to push you and visa-versa. My wife's expecting kiddo #2 so P90X is definitely out for her for now.

Hahaha, I'm not sure if that's accurate or possible. My HRM is too uncomfortable for me so I never use it.

If you're starting to get comfortable with the pace of the workouts you can always up the tempo for yourself. Especially with Yoga-X since it's a mainstay, you're probably memorizing the moves and can start doing it without the video and some music or something more entertaining on instead.

Today is W3D4 for me. According to my HRM, I burned 1334 with Yoga today. Is that even possible? Yoga is probably my least favorite because it is long and slow paced. I have to save it for the afternoon. My husband is doing the challenge with me and he's afraid he'll skip the Yoga if I'm not pushing him. Kenpo is my favorite so far. I've been saying for a while that I'd like to take karate or kickboxing. Guess that's why I like it.

I definitely feel that yoga is an essential part of the program especially since a lot of the other workouts draw heavily upon it whether it's in the stretching or like Core Synergistics which is a tone of yoga moves at high intensity. My only knock on Yoga-X is that it's 90 minutes and the pace is a little slow for my taste whereas Yoga-X2 is a slightly higher tempo and a lot of the solo moves from Yoga-X are integrated into other moves so it's a lot more efficient in its approach.

I used to box so Kenpo-X reminds me of shadowboxing for hours in the gym so I like it for that reason. I would say that Cardio/Kenpo + is a lot more fun and challenging and I tend to substitute it in place of regular Kenpo-X.

SweetBoo, I understand your determination and it is greatly admired. That is what will get you through the program and you will succeed in your goals. Like Joe said, KEEP IT UP!

Joe, glad to see that you are getting back to exercising after the injuries. Yoga X was my favorite workout of P90X. That is the one workout I am excited to do in P90X2. Throughout our team site here, you will see me encouraging people to make it through YogaX. Its one of the most talked about workouts within our team. Kenpo is the one workout I don't like. I would rather go run instead of doing that one.

I can definitely understand that! Twice after completions I've had some pretty serious injuries (torn ankle ligament from lacrosse and torn up knees from a plywood spill) and getting back into the swing took a little time. I'm too eager to try out P90X2 so I went with the integration which Beachbody has sheets for on the site rather than go through like you are but that is a very solid plan and I truly hope you can do it! Like they say, decide, commit, and succeed!

I'm not too sure what the rest time is for P90X2 but I promise ya that once you finish up P90X+ you'll hit the fast forward button on the waterbreaks. In addition to being sick muscle workouts it's stamina city!

One thing I have kind of cheated on is the Yoga-X. P90X2's yoga is only an hour and is basically a streamlined version of Yoga X. If I don't have the 90 minutes to put in, I'll go with that one. I feel that once you have all 3 sets of videos available to you there's a definite bit of leeway to substitute where applicable. It also works in reverse where a person might not be up to do +'s Kenpo/Cardio+ and could do Cardio-X in its place.

That is a good idea Joe. Unfortunately, my time between my completions is far between and my fitness levels have gone down. So, I have to play catch-up. Thank God for muscle memory :) This is going to be my P90X year. February will start off with P90X, rest a week, do P90X+, rest a week, finish the year the P90X2. That is my goal anyway. Hopefully in Phase 2 of P90X i will be able to reduce my rest time like you mentioned.

GREAT job SweetBoo!

Have a great week!

Thanks TXHRT4U! emoticon on your completions as well! I can testify that doing this a 3rd time is a significantly different burn then my first. What I've actually taken to doing to improve my burn for the muscle workouts is not putting on the video and going at a really fast pace with no breaks so I get a bigtime sweat in whereas I feel that sticking to the pace of the video would give me too much time off. We're probably both in the same boat that, especially with the sheets handy, you can run through an hour long muscle workout and ABX in about 50 minutes total and get a much bigger sweat in due to no downtime.

P90X+ really instills that frenetic pace and, to me at least, made regular P90X go a little slow in comparison. This makes me really nervous for starting P90X2 though hahaha.

Keep up the hard work everyone! Good Job SweetBoo!

This is my third time doing the P90X program but this time I'm incorporating P90X+ and will go straight into P90X2 when I'm done with this cycle. The best thing I can truly say about caloric burn is that everyone is different, and every time is different. I can tell you that doing PlyoX towards the end is a heck of a lot easier than Week 2 and just a different caloric burn. There's also other factors like the effort put in, modifications, etc. I can promise you I've mailed in a workout or 2 when I'm just shot and the results are different.

For me, and this is just my philisophy, I like to track my stats at the minimums for burn, maximum for intake. If I say that PlyoX only burned 350 calories but it actually burned 500 then what, I end up in better shape than my numbers say I should be? Welcome surprise for me then. If I overstate my burn, however my numbers say I should be at a higher level than I actually am and that can touch off all kinds of problems if for nothing else, psychologically which is factor number 1 in any fitness program.

I should also add, I'm in week 4, the "recovery week" and Tony's idea of recovery is not mine. Additionally, the P90X+ incorporation includes the Ab/Core+ routine in the "recovery week" which is far and away the hardest abs routine I've ever done.

Day two of plyometrics. Could only get through 45 min of it. I burned 270 calories according to my Polar FT7 heartrate monitor. My body is remembering what it feels like to work out again.

Wcaterino~ I think running outside (trail running) and not on the treadmill would get your heart rate up and allow you to burn more calories since the two are really different. I do wish you good luck on your quest to better health.

Old thread but I had to comment. I only wear my HRM (Garmin Forerunner 610) when I do cardio. Both Kempo X and Plyo don't burn more than 350 cal for me. In fact, to get my heart rate up to a sustained 160+ usually requires a steady run at a pace of 9:20 or better.

This has been the story for me since I took up running a couple of years ago. Now I'm 43 years old and I have a resting heartrate of around 47bps. It just takes a lot more for me to burn off a lot of calories. In fact I'm thinking of dropping Kempo and Plyo and running on the treadmill for those days and the rest day.

Anybody else thinking about or doing that?

Holy cow! I just did about 30 mins of the Yoga X and my bodybugg says I burned 195 calories. If I'd made it the whole thing I would have burned 600 calories!!! Amazing!

Okay, so I did Plyometrics last night and my BB says that I burned 357 calories. Please keep in mind that it was my first time doing Plyo and there was some serious modifications going on!! :-) It's a killer!

I'm still trying to figure out how to take a screen shot of the report so you can see what kind of info a Bodybugg shows.

EDIT: I've taken a screen shot and posted it in the team gallery.

Hi there!

I'm new to this group and am on day two of p90x. I use a bodybugg, well... the more inexpensive version anyway the Bodymedia Fit... same thing though. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it btw.

I'll post my calorie burn and even the chart if I can figure out how to do a screen shot! :-)

I don't know if HRM is accurate or not because many discussions out there sY HRM numbers are calibrated for cardio moves and not strength. This is where it confuses me. I spend almost an hiur sweating and with a relatively high HR but may be burning a relatively low amount of calories.

I did Chest & Back
38 years old, 5'6.5", 174 lbs female
I have a Polar FT60
Burned 534 calories per the HRM
AVg HR 164
Max HR 184

I don't know if that is true.

People with more muscle mass, especially in the lower body, will generally burn calories at a higher rate than those who are carrying their weight around the middle and upper body. Those who weigh more will generally burn more than those who weigh less. Those who are less fit (cardio-wise) will generally burn more than those who are more fit. But the biggest factor is really HOW HARD ARE YOU WORKING? How is your form? What is your perceived level of exertion? Are you pouring sweat, huffing and puffing, but pushing through anyway? Or are you taking more breaks when it gets tough? Where is your heart rate and are you doing what it takes to keep it continuously in the upper part of your cardio range, or are you staying in the middle? This is a big part of how many calories you're going to burn.

As I mentioned in a different thread my first week has been foreshortened due to injury, but I did CoreSyn, CardioX and Chest/Arms/Abx before having to take a powder. My cal. burn has been nothing like the numbers shown in this thread. I've been in the 300-400 range. In truth, I never got to 400, more like 378 or something like that. I'm a big girl right now and think I should be burning more calories even with modifications. Not sure what's wrong. We'll see next week.

Also, the more a person weighs the more they will burn....

Enjoy life to the "nth" power! If you have goals and aspirations set forth to do them now. Life is too short. Like Nike says...."Just Do It"

Procrastination is not an option. Never say never. Tomorrow is not promised to us. Enjoy!! As my cousin says...."Do you"!!!

I am 6'0 male, weigh 230 but am in decent shape as I work out 60-120 minutes daily. Would 900-1000 calories burned be a good estimation for the P90 Plyo workout?

My HR was between 150-175 for most of the workout. I would take short breaks and it would drop to 110, but with the next exercise it was right back at 150.

I bought the bowflex HRM and I usually use the touch pad to check my heart rate after every "set" then it bases calories burned on the last heart rate reading.

It said 900 cals for shoulders, arms and abs and 1002 for plyo. That seems consistent with what some people are getting. Plyo did get me out of my zone a couple times so I slowed it down a bit.

this is a really intriguing discussion for me. I actually blogged about it here: www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_jo
ur
nal_individual.asp?blog_id=3232748

I don't know if it's that I am somewhat of an athlete (been training in HapKiDo - where the conditioning workouts are truly exhausting - for about 6 years), but the only workout where I've burned (according to my HRM) more than 400 calories has been Kenpo (burned about 550 once), and that's only because I substituted a lot of it for my HapKiDo forms.

I think each individual is truly unique in this way. My heart rates don't ever go above 165 and that's when I feel like I don't think I could possibly push further.

the only thing I can say is get yourself a heart rate monitor. you can't really estimate according to how other people burn.

as for the burning of 700 - 1100 calories, I gotta admit: I'm totally jealous! or... would be if I believed they were totally accurate. those numbers just seem too high to me to be correct. but again I'm basing it on my own experience which is obviously very different.

or maybe it's just that my HRM sucks! haha!

:)

Your right, every single calorie maters in the last few pounds.

Natkita - it seems we are pretty close on our HRM reads.... as are many people. I have spoken to many people doing P90X and their HRM read the same as mine. Some bodies are just different I guess!

According to my HRM:

CardioX: 665
KenpoX: 820
Arms/Shoulders/AbRipperX: 880
Legs/Back/AbRipperX: 1125
Core Synergistics: 900
YogaX: 605
Plyo: 975
XStretch: 280

I've seen some posts from people who burn far fewer calories, which surprises me, as my HRM seems right in line with my perceived exertion when compared to other types of exercise. Also, I'm still pretty overweight and out of shape, so it means things are still extra hard for me. Plus, I genetically have dense bones and a lot of muscle, so maybe that makes the burn higher too? Finally, I really push myself to the outer limits. My HR is often in the 90-92% max range.

Editing to add more specific HR info:

Usual Resting HR: 72

HR just after walking around to get my shoes, my DVDs, mat, etc., and push play: 85

Low HR (taken less than 1 min into warm up): 115
Avg HR: 154
High HR: 170

HR at the END of YogaX: 65
HR at the peak of YogaX: 165 (while the whole repeated vinyasa is going on, and right after the half moon series)

It confounds me when people cite low calorie burn numbers for YogaX, as I find it to be one of the toughest w/os (at least the first 45 minutes). In fact, it's on tap for today, and to be honest, I'm dreading it. I'm dreading recovery week especially, since I have YogaX twice! I guess it's just different for everybody, as my body seems to have to work super-hard on any isometric moves.

As long as you are getting the results you want, then you have no need to worry.

I only worry about numbers because I'm down to the last 10 or 15 so... and it's a lot harder when you get closer to your goal, lol. So little numbers here and there add up...

But if you are getting where you want, then obviously things are going right... so I wouldn't stress too much.

Honestly... I hate to make you worry... but I just don't trust HR monitors to be accurate. They tend to overestimate in my experience. If you are curious, you can find studies on this topic. Here's one to get you started:

Wow.... I typically burn between 600-900 on each workout. With the exception of yoga and xstretch of course. I am 5'3, 158 lbs. I hope my HRM is right because I base my calorie intake on this.

I only got 319 on core synergistics yesterday and around 300 with cardio X today. HOWEVER, my HRM is stopping alot on me and is making me very angry! just had batteries replaced this summer. time to send for re-check.

I also have to exercise on carpet. I think that has something to do with it because I have to be extra careful with foot placement and certain movements so I don't catch and torque my knee.
Any thoughts? emoticon

Currently I'm around 155 (gained a few pounds during the first couple weeks of P90X but it's slooooowly going down again now), 37 years old, and I was very active before I started this program, including weight training.

Here's what my HRM* says I burn, typically:

PlyoX: ~600
YogaX: ~700
Core Synergistics: ~550
Cardio Intervals: ~600
Ab Ripper: 150-175

And I'm usually right around 500 on all the weight training exercises. I think these estimates are a little high, personally, but I can feel and see some changes, so clearly something is happening.

* I use the Timex T5G971

I don't have any numbers for my P90X workouts because I'm on another program right now... but with the whole Bodybugg thing...

With the Bodybugg, if you are going to do cycling, you can put it your upper calf, just like you would wear it on your arm. Apex claims that that is not an accurate way of wearing it, but I (and many other users) feel that that is a better method than just wearing it on your arm- and should give you a slightly more accurate report.

Since I've started using the Bodybugg, I've lost 10.4 pounds. I love the thing.

I'm somewhere around 130 pounds and I burn about 200-300.
Sometimes it may be up to 400, often with plyo, but also with kenpo and legs&back wokrout. if I really push it.

I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world. This makes it hard to plan the day.

ok..my hubs bought me a Polar F6 for xmas but I'm slightly disappointed in my totals for cals burned. I've ranging 200-400 depending on the dvd..I would have guessed I was burning much more than that. I'm gonna track again this week while making sure I'm putting effort into my workout..

The thing is, everyone is going to be different based on a variety of factors. For me, the components that impact my calorie burn is cardio intensity over time. Cardio X and Kenpo X, for example versus, resistance, yoga, etc.

You may find a good range (approximation) with someone similar to your size, age, weight, gender, metabolism and other physical characteristics, but at the end of the day the best way to determine your true burn is to use a good HRM that tracks calories burned or a Bodybugg.

Legs & Back + AbsR = 465
Plyometrics = 485 to 550
(2) Power Half Hour (Abs & Thighs, each 30 minutes) = 500 (also by Tony Horton)
YogaX = 350 (this is the highest number I've done with Yoga)
Kenpo = 350
Kenpo & Treadmill = 525
Core Synergistic = 400 to 450
X Stretch = 125
----------
From P90X Plus:
Intervals & Abs/Core = 550 to 625
TotalBody = 350 to 400
UpperBody & Abs/Core = 450
Kenpo Plus = 350

I recently did a few Power90 DVDs to try them out with a client of mine that I am coaching locally. I am burning around 10cals per minute, overall. I did the workout in Hawaii. Also Sculpt 3-4. And then my client and I did both of them back to back and I burned almost 600 calories.

Team,

I finished week 9 today with Kempo. I brought it, but only burned 300 cals. I used to do 400-450. I think I'm getting a whole lot fitter, since it is not nearly as challenging as it used to be. I am considering buying Insanity to use to supplement my P90X workouts.

I use my GoWearFit to track my calorie burn as I find it is more accurate than the HRMs I have used. For some reason, HRMs say I burn almost double the calories that I really do according to a fancy BMR/CO2 test I took.
