A trigger for me is just stepping foot into my own home after work. I can go all day staying busy and barely thinking of food. But as soon as I get home all I want to do is eat. Skinny hubby has way too much junk food around.

How long of a page do I get for problem triggers? I am kidding.. My biggest problem is time escapes me. I do not remember to eat. I get so wrapped up in what I am doing.. I do not eat, therefore I do not do anything. I can open up my Bible at 8am and next thing I know it's 2pm.. If I am doing schoolwork (Same thing).. I do not watch the clock like I used to do.
My roommates have rubbed off on me in a very bad way, and I do not like it.. Reading God's Word, is a very good thing, being slothful is a very bad thing. I do get my chores done, I do get the things I need to get done, but when it comes to taking care of myself, I forget.
Helping others... I have no problem with...

My problem areas are also stress and boredom as well as loneliness which turns into self-pity because I am sitting alone, doing nothing. Boredom, too, with eating, often wanting something I haven't had in a while. We need variety in our food and in our lives. Nice discussion. Thanks. -- Lou

I am that way too. I am trying out a new trick. I seem to have bad energy swings when I eat more carbs than protein. So, yesterday I drank a protein shake for breakfast and had a small one in the afternoon. No energy drains. Did great on my calories and carbs/fats too. Going for day 2 and little sleep last night. Hopefully, this will be an answer for me. I was all over the place eating normally. One day below my calorie goals, the next - double.

My biggest trigger for overeating is staying up late. If I'm watching TV or on the computer I engage in mindless munching. To counteract that I don't buy those tempting snacks, but that still does not quench the cravings or desire to snack. At times I have even found myself in front of an open fridge or cupboard even when I know there is nothing in there I want to snack on.
The best defense is to go to bed on time, which has always been a struggle.

I know I have several "triggers". Boredom, loneliness, and tiredness are some of the biggest! I am learning to conquer the first 2. But, when I'm tired- I don't want to cook or exercise or do anything. So fast-food (thank goodness I don't have any close by) or those quick high fat, high sodium meals in a box is what I grab. I'm also learning to tackle that last one, as I've been better at keeping at least one serving of a left-over in the frig or freezer for me to grab instead of the other. But, yes, when I am alone and all the above- I need to lock the doors to the kitchen!
Thanks for the posts!

A problem trigger for me is boredom. If I am not keeping busy, and I am bored then I eat--usually junk food.

I'm listening to us and I see a parallel emerging. Many of us are parents or grandparents. What do we do to keep our babies happy? We make sure they are clean (so wash your bodies and hydrate them as you cleanse your soul with the washing of the water of the Word). We make sure they are fed (so eat nourishing, filling foods and feast on the Word). We make sure they get to sleep no matter HOW long it takes us to get them down (so get adequate sleep and learn to REST in the Lord, the refreshing kind of slumber that is blessed by God). We hold them and talk to them and sooth them (so spend intimate time with your loved ones and with your God). We PLAY with them (so don't forget the importance of laughter and playfulness as you exercise).

This is my biggest problem, too. Thanks for the inspiration.

If I'm hungry, I don't sleep well at all. When I'm hungry and tired... I get short tempered and arguementative. (I'm not nice at all.)
Your snacks were not terribly off track. Hope you enjoyed the pie contest.

A great post, & one I am really going to start paying attention to, because Ihave notice lately when I am tired I tend to do take-out food more often. A big no-no for me.

Fatigue is awful. It distorts everything. It's no wonder the apostles were ineffective when they kept falling asleep when Jesus asked them to watch and pray. I can SO relate. We just don't make good decisions when we are tired.

When I'm that hungry and tired, my mind goes 'goofy'. I want [and usual do] want to eat everything in the house.

I KNOW that one of my problem triggers is TIREDNESS! Last night I got home from the pie contest and I was SO, SO tired. I'd only eaten a cup of soup and a piece of whole grain bread w/a few crackers for supper; and a VERY moderate dessert at the pie contest; so when I got home I was REALLY hungry! Instead of either brushing my teeth and going to bed [since I was exhausted!] or making some oatmeal or a piece of toast with natural peanut butter, I opted for JUNK--2 oz of sun chips [260 calories] and a really big [2.2 oz--over 131 calories]] piece of whole grain bread [not junk]-- I was STUFFED and felt kind of YUCKY!
I thought about this later and I could have gone to bed with the hunger! I could have thought about ALL THE PEOPLE in the world going to bed with hungry tummies and then brushed my teeth and headed to bed. Instead, I ate junk and felt bad. Lesson learned: next time I'm brushing my teeth and rinsing with mouth wash and GOING TO BED! :-))))
