I am going to work on my coping techniques that I have not been able to do because of the emotional breakdown. Play piano for one song...more if I feel okay at it. I wrote in my Blessings journal tonight and that was a start. So slowly working at getting back into my coping techniques again without overwhelming myself.

I hurt my hand & am limited in what I can do regarding meal preparation. Very frustrating for me to let Rick prepare meals.

I am going to try and not get so frustrated with him because he doesn't do things the way I do.

I am going to continue to organize my pottery area and give some thought about where I want to go from here. It seems to be a very time consuming and expensive hobby. I will give some thought to marketing my wares emoticon .

Now that I have my daily exercise routine down, I want to try and add something more I can do. Coming to SparkPeople daily is a good stress relief. It's good to see other people posting and it helps to see what ideas others have. Please don't be shy, but post your ideas. Who knows that maybe what you post may just be what another person needs for their coping management strategy :) We are here to learn from one another.

SAESAND, those are techniques I use in my daily life. I'm sure you will enjoy doing them and find them greatly helpful to reduce your stress. I go to bed an hour early just to read. Throughout the day I do a variety of stretches, many for my chronic back conditions and to keep everything limber. Blogging your thoughts or writing them out is something I've done for over 20 years. I have literally hundreds of journals and journal types. In fact, I'll be posting a Journaling Course I came up with a little down the road to teach those that do no understand it or know where to start. I hope you will find it helpful as well. In 20 years I've filled about 15 journals of various types. :)

I have been looking for ways to lower my daily stress level, especially when I am calming down to go to sleep at night. Looking at the list of ideas, I think I will try the following:

1. Blog my thoughts on SP or write in a journal.
2. Do stretches or yoga after I put on my PJs.
3. Set aside 15-20 minutes to read when I get into bed.

I am hoping it works. emoticon

I have found that when I am stressed and drink a large glass of COLD, COLD water, I feel better. I find that if I am dehydrated I get into a funk or I get irritable. So I am really into drinking COLD, COLD water...by the pitcher-full. Sometimes I drink 2 or more pitchers of water/day which is 2-4 litres/day.

I'm going to try to clean some of the old paperwork off of my desk - scan it, file it or throw it away. When I am feeling overwhelmed - I see the mess on the desk and wonder if I can ever get things under control.

I am currently at my Mom and Dad's due to the extreme heat. I do not have a/c and my entire back broke out in heat rash and I came down with heat sickness. Dad offered me to come and I did. I am pleased to say I am much better and having a great 2 months with them. So getting somewhere that will make your overall health better is a good stress relief goal.

I am going to add meditation and drawing to my relaxation. I do draw now but not consistently and I pray but do not meditate as much. I meditate on so much negative stuff so I will change that to meditating on positive things.

I like the list and an earlier idea of putting them into a jar. I'm following the 30 day challenge, but some days I need more than 1 strategy or thing to try and beat this effects of stress. Thank you for the list. #23 is a particular favourite but lately I've been too restless to even enjoy that. Today I'm going to go out and replenish my candle stock.

I always try to look at someone, or read about a place that has way more problems than I do. This makes me look at the up side of my life, instead of the down side. It also makes me more thankful for what I do have, including the stress.

Stress at work is through the roof, and I've made a decision to turn down some new business today. I'm really conflicted about it, but I think I have to be realistic about what I can actually do and respect the commitments I've already made.

This task is actually adding MORE stress right now, but hopefully once I do the deed, it will help a lot.

Two things I am finding helpful with stress relief lately:

Taking time at the end of the day to think of what I was grateful for that day; and

Taking time out at the end of the day to figure out what I accomplished and what needs to be done the next day, and reviewing that list the next morning.

These two things really help me to feel in control of my life.

By unpacking my things and getting my new apartment in order, that is a stress relief for me. Though it is going to take some time before th ings are exactly the way I want them - I have to purchase some things and that will take time - I am relieved when I see boxes in the recycle bin and garbage out of my apartment, my GOOD decorations ready to go up and tossing/purging things I do not need. This is very helpful for me.

Today I am focusing on number 77. have a pet and cuddle it — a sure source of unconditional love. Since we have so many cats in the house, outside of the house and animals everywhere on our little farm, this is an easy one but so rewarding.

Sheri,
Just read your 101 things to do when you are stressed. Really enjoyed it. I think I need to print it out also and keep it upstairs by my bed and read it before I go to bed. I liked 22, 23 and 26. I would love to go back to ceramics. I really enjoyed doing that and loved "making things" for people. I think maybe I'll look and see if there is anywhere I can join. Might be something fun to do in the dark days of winter.

While I'd really like to focus on one of the fun ones, the one that I know will make the most difference in my stress level right now is "Complete Projects." I have a number of unfinished things at home and at work, so I'm going to focus on getting them out of my hair so that I don't lie awake thinking about them, like I did last night!

Realistic goals and keep your word...likely two of the most important things one can work on!

#38 Keep your word - I'm going to work on this one next.

I did try asking questions and demanding an explanation (#14). I asked my mother why she didn't send me to another doctor back when I was a teenager if she didn't like the one I found myself. She did give me an answer but it wasn't one that I wanted to hear. Guess you can't win them all!

#49. Set realistic goals.
Yet, there was another one about challenging your limiting beliefs...
I need to do a little of both!!! LOL.

It is okay to take a break from journaling for a day. Maybe it is just one day we need to break from what we are used to, in this case journaling, and then go back at it fresh the next day with renewed interest. I know for me, depending on what the Stressor is will depend on what works for relieving the stress. If my mind is clear and I'm not tired I can journal, otherwise I may play piano, lay down on my bed and practice relaxation breathing or listen to a guided meditation. And that small break from my regular pattern, will help me to enjoy what really does work for me...or for you, your journaling. Just a thought!

Hi all, I'm new to the group. My stress level is a 3 today. I'm trying to let go of all the work issues and fears I have.

My stress relief for this week is number 1. I always feel better when I journal, and yet keep stopping. So silly.

My stress level today (Thursdayd) was about 4, dealing with the CMHA, the day after I put my 2 1/2 year old male kitten Sammy to sleep and finding out I still have pneumonia after 3 weeks of antibiotics and prednisone. But it will get better.

Ah #46 - I think someone needs to tattoo that to my arms, legs and hands. Then maybe it will sink in!

Today's stress level is about 2.5.

I feel like I should be more stressed. Isn't that funny? We feel not stressed so we get stressed because we feel we aren't stressed enough. We must have missed something and start running through our list of things that do stress us out. And ta-da, we keep ourselves stressed out though we were happy that it seems like we were controlling our stress.

Please tell me I'm not the only one with this problem? emoticon

I've stopped tracking my praising for awhile and I can tell the difference (now that I've stopped). So back to praising. I have started reading some of my favorite childrens books recently (without realizing that was #101). It definitely has helped.

What you are to do here is rate your Stress Level Scale for the day from 1-5. The number 1 is the lowest stress you have ever felt meaning none at all. Five is the highest stress and you need help immediately. If you are at a 5, please seek help IMMEDIATELY by calling a crisis line, going to the ER or phoning your doctor.

You can use fractions/decimals as well. For example for me today, I was not very stressed at all but I'd put it at about 2.5. I had a good day, but the constant, chronic back pain made me jittery. So it is 2 - low because it was a good day, but I need to add the .5 because the pain was an issue.

2.5 for Sunday for me. Between 1 and 5.

My stress relief today is being back with you all. I've missed you all terribly but even while I was off sick I was looking for new things to help us all. I've got some great things to post but I have so much of it that it will take time to get it all here. And we have the time, the internet and we don't need the pressure so one lesson at a time. Best wishes until later today.

I have had to really take it easy today. I have been battling allergies and off-and-on colds since early September. The past two days have been quite bad. A little stress at work may also be contributing to the onset of another attack. So, I chose to stay home and rest today.

JGMK55, you are always welcome.

Princess, pets...even if you are volunteering with them, are a wonderful stress reliever because animals are innocent. The animal shelter is a wonderful choice...unless you are allergic....aaaaaaachooooooooooo :)

I still volunteer at the animal shelter (well actually I take care of the dogs) once a week, since I started in August. It is a great way to spend my time as I love animals, and there is always a dog there that I will take a special liking too (especially if it is a large breed) that I give a bit of extra care apart from the feeding/walking/cleaning. The only thing that bothers me about it is that there is a big rotation - the dogs that come in get adopted very quickly so I never see them again. Well this is a good thing, but it is a bit sad emotionally.

I need both - affirmation from others and myself. When one is missing, I feel it. Thanks for the reminders, Sheri. I appreciate all you do.

There is nothing wrong with giving yourself positive affirmation so long as it doesn't get to the point you don't need anybody else to help you, love you etc., which I highly doubt would happen with anybody in this group. :)

Thank you! The praising thing is wonderful and I have no intention of ever stopping. I love the achievements idea too!

This week I've signed myself up for a free class - again to get out of my house and out of my head. And it's a yoga class so hopefully it will be double stress relief. I'm really looking forward to it.

The reason you feel so good is that you were affirming what you did and that you can do it. That is called Positive Affirmation. Keeping a journal of blessings, achievements (new idea there), affirmations etc., is something I think is really important and stressed (no pun intended) in the journal course that I put here on the Team. Good for you!

I volunteered two weeks ago and it was wonderful. 1) Because it got me out of my own head and 2) Because it got me out of my house and interacting with real humans!

I'm adding baths and pedicures once a week this month before I even looked at this list again.

So for the week I want to try to complete the one section of my scrapbook.

Daily: I want to praise myself. I can be too critical and mean to myself (and can beat myself up for days over things that happened decades ago!)

So daily this week I will praise myself for all that I do! This could be fun!

I love these; I know I'm a little late. I'm going to start with #31, but I'm moving this weekend. It will be easier to set it up from scratch, but I have to wait to move. After I get that set up and use it, I think I'm going to borrow the jar idea and try a new one every week. Maybe I'll end up using a few on a regular basis after some trial and error.

Those are great.. I would be willing to do them all - not all at once of course. And I love the idea of printing them out and putting them in a jar.

Thanks for the great list
