Well, I didn't nail December, either.

emoticon Only five hours of ice time. Missed lessons because of accident, snow cancellation, a board meeting, and a late train back to Massachusetts. And I didn't go once while I was in Ohio for Christmas. Family holiday events were just non-stop. I expect tomorrow night's lesson will be cancelled because of the winter storm that's dumping snow on us right now. Oh well - I'm still signed up for lessons and the pond near my house may be legal for skating during tomorrow's sub-zero windchill, which would let me skate beyond the weekends.

emoticon Did pretty well with the cookie goal. Actually came home about a pound lighter than I left despite multiple cookie bakes and s'mores for New Years. We managed to keep lots of whole foods around to snack on, too, so I kept the balance I'd hoped for.

emoticon Stats PD is an epic fail. Early in the month, my principal and I decided on a big, multi-year math initiative that's consumed my big-picture planning capacity and will until January 11th at least. Maybe stats PD a little later in the year, or maybe I'll just trust that helping people with their lesson plans and grading the first time through will be enough to get us over the hump. Can't wait to see what the new Common Core testing actually includes...

Ready for January goals...

:- ) :-) I enjoy watching backyard visitors--especially cardinals. They are a lot of fun to watch though they don't visit as much since we got a cat who just loves to be outside!

Best wishes resisting the cookies. I am doing good with cookies, it is the holiday chocolates and nuts I cannot seem to stay away from like the chocolate covered almonds.

Asherah, I love your profile image. Saw a couple cardinals in Mom's back yard yesterday and we made a cut-out cookies shaped like cardinals/ blue jays. I am not doing a good job of resisting the cookies - had a cookie as my first morning food both of the last two days. And it doesn't look like I'm going to make it to the ice rink at all while I'm here. But mostly I'm eating good food, and I haven't downed too many cookies or any other junk food. I suspect I'll be the same weight but a bit de-trained by the time I get home on Friday.

Sounds good Asherah!

Greb to answer you question I don't focus a meal, I just add more veggies/fruits in generally. I do best with raw things. This week was oranges, clementines, apples (I did spice some and add to the crock pot), sweet peppers, green beans, fingerling potatoes (I cook those).

I like the idea of the left overs, that sounds fun!

As for my goals, I have gotten in some exercise, but it has been a little inconsistent. Between working more hours and travel, egh.

So far so good.

I did get started on strength training. I feel really good about that. Have also had 2-3 TaeBo sessions. Went to 25 minutes yesterday. Today, some weights. I also have a consultation with a personal trainer @ Curves Gym

My other goal was to cut down on snacking--I continue to work on this one.

Naps are good when you're sick!

What was your veggie focused meal for this first week? Curious what you're eating. I fed my lunch club a sorta "thanksgiving leftovers meal" yesterday - it was cheesed green beans, butternut squash with walnut/brown sugar/nutmeg topping, and a lentil "meatloaf".

Okayokay I'd better post. I am already behind :( but it happens. I got sick Thursday morning (fun fun) and have been feel not hungry, nausous, and lazy since then. I think I am getting better now, I am up to about 1 -2 full meals a day :). I will say, I am really lucky to have an understanding mother in law. I didn't really feel like eating Thanksgiving meal, so I just did some picking. MIL didn't fret, just hoped I felt better soon.

Okay, on to goals. There will be travel, some longer work days etc so:
WT 6x
Walk (or better)10x
Hard Cardio (with at least 1 swim) 4x
Stretching 10x
"speed work" 4x
Veggie meal focus each week (so 4x)

So If I accomplish all this I am going to put extra money towards my student loans next month.

So far, I have managed 2 walks and lots of naps.

Okay- I have December goals but they are not on my home computer and I took the day off. So I will post them tomorrow-ish.

They are the same types of things just in different amounts due to travel etc. :).

Wow, we're already a day into December - time flies! My first cookie challenge will be a baking party with my crew this Friday.

Asherah - what kind of weight training are you going to be doing? My entree was the SparkPeople generated weight exercises, but I've since modified significantly to serve my personal goals. Good luck!

Hmm, how about plan the bike expedition for this spring to include my geometry kids building a bamboo bike. There is rich mathematics AND materials science AND some nice workshop skills all wrapped up in that. And it's an early spring expedition so now's the time... Hmmm...

Thanks for setting up December's Goal thread Loren!

I'll put mine up when I get back this Sunday.

As for GRebJack .. hehe ... suggestions for nerdy goal ...

1) Write a version of the 12 Days of Christmas with a math theme ... and sing it to your students.
2) When you get on the ice, skate in figure SQRT(64) ...
3) Buy Greg a new bike

(Ok ... #3 might not be nerdy ... but that Greg guy would not let on to that!)

You may say I'm a dreamer...but I'm not the only one...

Oh, wow, is it that time already? For once ivebeen focused on finishing strong instead of the clean slate for next month. Lessee,

emoticon fitness is easy. I wanna get on the ice at least ten times. Doesn't sound like much, but given Holiday travel and inconvenient weekday schedules, I think it's a good goal.

emoticon I always gain some cookie weight while I'm home for Christmas, and I KNOW I don't have the willpower to say I won't eat them, so my goal is just a stalling / substituting tactic: every cookie must be preceded by fruit or veggie or two glasses of water. If nothing else, all the running to the bathroom should burn off some of the cookie calories. Honest truth, if I keep carrots and broccoli and apples and chestnuts around Mom's house, I'll be happy to eat those instead of cookies when I get the munchies.

emoticon My last goal is going to be organizing a PD for district teachers to help people prepare to teach the new common core statistics standards in grades 7 through 12 - most math teachers never studied this content, which makes it a bit of a challenge to teach.
