I am stronger than I give myself credit for.
I know how to advocate for myself and get the help I need.
I know when to set boundaries and when to implement the consequences of breaking them.
I can get myself out of an uncomfortable situation.
I am willing to reach out for help to get better in all areas of my life.

You've got to accentuate the positive
Eliminate the negative
And latch on to the affirmative
Don't mess with Mister In-Between

I am able to learn new ways of doing things.
I have a delightful sense of humor.
I am creative in what I think and do.
I am not afraid to speak out when the time is right.
I now know that," I am good enough."

Smile, nod, and back away slowly.

Keep it simple.

It is time for you to start posting positive self-statements. When I led another team on Yahoo, I was in charge of encouraging the ladies to post FIVE affirmations about themselves daily. Over time, the ladies became happier, laughed more and were eventually able to teach others this trick.
So, write out five things about yourself that are good qualities and put them in an affirmation statement like this:

1. I am an encouraging person.
2. I enjoy helping other people.
3. I am smart enough to know when to hang up and stop arguing.
4. I know when to break off negative relationships.
5. I accept that I will never be perfect and that I am always a work in progress.

Your turn.

I put this together from bits and pieces of information I have learned over the years from doctors, counselors and many other specialists. I hope you find it helpful and useful in your standing up to the stress and anxiety in your life.

POSITIVE SELF-STATMENTS FOR COPING WITH ANXIETY

Typically, we don't think very positive when it comes to anxiety. We go into fight or flight motion and react without thinking. Somebody I didn't even get along with at the time taught me this. When I'm upset or feel like I'm going to spin out of control to

STOP!!!!!

THINK!!!

Respond. :)

By doing those three steps you most likely not say something you would regret later. You would prevent feelings of hurt and other anger rising and a snowball turning into one of those huge rolling snowballs out of control and growing rapidly. Post in on your computer or wherever you spend the most time. I put mine on my monitor and now I have it memorized. It was there for about a year, but I got the message and it worked.

PREPARATION FOR POSITIVE SELF-STATEMENTS FOR COPING WITH ANXIETY

PREPARATION:
These are things you can say to your self so you wont' get so upset and anxious before the time of the event you are nervous about arrives. It will keep you calm. Things you can say to yourself:
- It's not going to be as bad as I think,
- It won't last long and I can cope with it.
- I might enjoy it if I go.
- If I do get bad feelings, I know they won't last long and I can cope with them.
- It's better to go than not to go. Worry doesn't help.
- I'm getting better and need to go to rebuild my confidence.

CONCENTRATION
Next you have to concentrate. You have to be in the ready to go mode. For this moment things you can say to yourself would include:
-Concentrate on what is going on.
-This is just anxiety; it is an unpleasant feeling but I've never been ill.
-The feelings are unpleasant but not harmful or dangerous.
-Concetrate on what I have to do.
-I know I am going to be OK.
-One step at a time.
-The feelings ALWAYS pass away.
-Remember to relax and think positive

PRAISE
Now your moment of stress and anxiety is over and done with. These are some of the things you can say to yourself:
-I coped with that.
-I achieved that; I'm getting better.
-I handled that; it should be easier next time.
-I can be pleased with the progress I am making.
-I did that well.
-If I keep this up, I'm going to get really good at this.

Hope it was helpful. :)
