Well I finally started 4/4/14 to walk 30+ minutes daily. I walk in my subdivison and the streets/roads do have inclines/declines as well as level areas. My gluts hurt but I take that as a sign that those muscles are working emoticon

I ordered Rockin Body DVDs and looking forward to starting this fun program on 4/10/14or earlier depends on when it's delivered..

I'm determined to tone up my body jiggles as the body fat and pounds come off! I already feel heathier since trying to eat Paleo/Primal most of the time and trying to get or keep my body in Ketosis. I like that I have more energy, sleeping better and emoticon more!

Well, I haven't posted, but I have been doing the Whole 30 challenge since 4/14 too!. I guess, I have to be honest...I have been doing the whole 30 diet since August 8th of 2013 non stop!~~~
For medical reasons I am on Paleo for life, though I went slightly primal and occasionally add whole fat Greek yogurt and drink organic grass fed whole milk regularly, but cannot have any other dairy like cheese. I am also restricted to only one fruit serving a day due to even natural sugar intake.

Looking for support and new friends. This has been quiet a journey. I have lost 94 pounds since August 8th with this IIH diagnosis.

I was having the same problem. Been doing crossfit 3 days a week with a trainer and eating paleo but did not drop a pound in 5 months time. However I did gain muscle and lost some inches so the scale really dosen't mean much. But to enhance my diet so I can see more results I am now trying the paleo-zone method. Been doing this for 3 days and I actually dropped 1 lb. Give it a look over maybe it will help. You can find it on the crossfit Journal website. emoticon

I just realized I hadn't posted in here in forever!! Ahhhhhhhh!!!

I was struggling for a bit. CrossFit is going great, I'm on my second week now. What is frustrating is I have been eating really well and I have not lost one freaking pound!! Since starting CrossFit my weight now fluctuates between 210-212. It's driving me nuts! BUT my chiropractor/trainer told me the reason for that is that I'm gaining muscle. He says muscle weighs more than fat so that's why it's happening. So I'm thinking of tracking my body fat instead of my weight. That may make me less insane. LOL I have a chiro appointment with him tonight, I'm going to see if I can get my body fat done while I'm there and see how close it is to my scale here at home.

So for awhile I was really struggling with food. I was getting really bored. Then we pulled out the cookbooks and I made some great food! I made Paleo brownies (IMO you can't even tell the difference between them and a regular brownie. They are so good!!) and last night I made Paleo pizza. I've been craving pizza so bad so it was heavenly to me!! If you want to know how I made it, I'm more than happy to share! It was sooooooooo good!!! And tonight I'm making the Sparkpeople recipe Sticky Chicken. It's so yum! So I'm feeling much better about my diet now and better in general. When I cut out the potatoes for a few days I felt like a crack addict needing a fix. I felt horrible! But I'm doing much, much better now.

So things are looking up! I'm really enjoying CrossFit even though at times I want to die. LOL I definitely understand now why they have the On-Ramp class!!

KLR- Hey getting hit on is getting hit on! I think it feels great no matter where it is. LOL Well, unless they're creepy. Then it's not so cool. LOL Oh and today I was the last one to finish my CrossFit workout, so don't feel bad! In fact, when I was done, everyone else had already left. LOL However, I did beat hubby's start time, in fact, I TIED his finish time! Muah ha ha ha!! That made me feel good! He he!

I hope everyone is doing well!

Great day yesterday. Almost great today. Tomorrow will be great again.

AND

Beth - I went grocery shopping late last night and got hit on at the grocery store. Not as exciting as getting hit on by a crossfitter though. Not even close really.

Crossfit was fun though even though I consistently get below average scores and times. I still enjoying knowing I'm doing more than I ever have been able to do! Greatful for being able to eat paleo and feel better than ever before.

Beth - when I'm tired that's when I have cravings. And I always want carbs, and when I eat them my gut is wrecked and I can't sleep. And it was like that ALL the time before I went paleo.

I did great the last two days. Tomorrow should be great too.

So overall yesterday I did well. Theeeeen... we went out to watch a friend's band and were up way later than we normally are. As a result, we got hungry. Hubby ordered mushrooms and fries and I ordered cheese curds and fries. We were both thinking it was going to be soooooo good... instead we both hated it!! I think it shows how far we've come in just 3 weeks. We also didn't drink any alcohol at all. It made my abdomen hurt and side hurt too. I'm betting that was the gluten! So glad to be back eating Paleo again! I think the fact that I didn't have non-Paleo food for 3 weeks is really good!

So tomorrow I start my CrossFit class! Went to open gym yesterday and had so much fun! My hubby told me later he thought this one guy kept hitting on me. I thought he was just being nice, but now that I think of it... LOL! I'm not gonna lie, it's nice that men are still hitting on me, especially at CrossFit where I pretty much look my worst, in my opinion. Plus the hubby and I have been together for 7 years and married for almost 3. So yeah... kinda nice! He he!

I hope everyone is having a good day!

I've done better the last 2 days. Actually really good, but not totally RX. And I could have drank more water. Yesterday I shared a couple of bites of ice cream from my kids, and I didn't want anymore than that. I also ate a couple of non-paleo meatballs, but they weren't that good either. I also don't think I ate quite enough food the last 2 days (because I was running out of food and needed to go grocery shopping), but I wasn't overly hungry.

Beth - glad to hear you're feeling better! Have a fun time at CrossFit!

How is everyone doing today? I'm doing alright. I ate too late last night and I felt sick all morning. Started at 4AM and lasted all morning. Yuck! So, I didn't eat much today, I did eat more fruit than I usually do, but it's what my body was craving. I took a nice long nap too. I'm feeling much better now and am excited to go to CrossFit open gym tomorrow. And my class starts on Monday! Yay!!

I hope everyone is doing well!

Oh no! But the best part of this is that this is a lifestyle change. If you don't eat the way you should one day, tomorrow is a new day!

I didn't eat much today, but I had a nice dinner. Homemade taco salad seasoned with homemade taco seasoning! I just felt "blah" today. I didn't want to eat much today and I even took a nap. I blame the weather. It was so nice yesterday and it dropped 30 degrees overnight!! I woke up feeling tired. That's never good. So, I just chilled most of the day.

Yesterday wasn't a bad day. I tried mushrooms in my omelet and I put in too many and I didn't cook them right and they ended up all mushy and gross. Still, I ate half of my omelet and threw out the rest. No way was I eating the rest of that! For dinner I made shrimp with spices and tomatoes. It turned out really good and was more filling than I expected! This morning I had bacon and the last egg for breakfast. We're going grocery shopping after my hubby is done with work. I think I'll try fresh mushrooms, maybe I'll like them better. The ones I tried yesterday were dried. So yesterday was my first day with no potatoes and I dropped 2 pounds!! I couldn't believe it!!

So yesterday I went to the gym to put some time in on the treadmill. I wore these tennis shoes I haven't worn in a long time and I really never wore that much. Well I noticed halfway into my walk/jog/run that my pinkies were hurting, but it didn't feel THAT bad. I get home, take off my shoes and get in the shower. I look down at my feet and it looked like my pinkies were BLEEDING! Only they weren't, I got huge, nasty blood blisters on both toes! All I can wear is flip-flops right now. I have band aides on both, but how can I accelerate the healing process? I also have Neosporin on them. I need some help, this really sucks!

Terri- Definitely thinking of you today! I hope everything goes well!!

KLR- Oh no! Well at least it wasn't the chips. I'm glad it didn't last long for you, though. Not feeling well sucks, but I'm glad the nap helped!

I hope everyone is having a good day!

Terri - thinking about you today! I hope everything goes well with the specialist today and they can help get things figured out so you can feel better. I don't think eating a popcicle was that bad. and if your tongue hurts, it probably felt really soothing. Don't be too hard on yourself about it. You are still making other great and healthy choices.

Beth - I think it it's wonderful that everyday is a good day for you! It is very motivating to have good days!

I don't think it was the chips the other day. My whole family is getting sick, and Sunday I had about 15 minutes where I felt like I was going to get sick, and the rest of the day I was achy. At first I thought it was because of my workouts, but when everyone else started complaining, I figured it must be a bug. However, it didn't last long for me. Maybe because I am eating so well. So Saturday and Sunday I skipped my last snack, but I ate RX all day on Monday. (I also took a 2 hour nap! And felt sooo much better!)

I can't believe I messed up today. I didn't even catch it at first. I was just thinking about the overall calories. I had popsicles and sugar-free fudge bars. It was the sugar in the popsicles that dawned on me. I've been doing so good not eating sugar.

My tongue problem is really upsetting my stomach. I think that's why I ate the popsicles. Oh well.

I did have good meals. Scrambled eggs with spinach, chicken soup, salad, chicken, and acorn squash.

Peace Out,

Terri

Today was a good day! (I think I say that almost every day. LOL) For breakfast/lunch I had a 3 egg omelet with my last potato, tomatoes, and sausage. Tomorrow will be interesting since I no longer have potatoes and won't be buying any more! LOL For dinner we grabbed Moe's and Paleoized it. It's on of my favorite go-to's and so filling! We get the "Close Talker" (a taco salad) without the shell with no beans or cheese and lots of veggies! It's something quick if we need it and so delicious and filling! Yum!!

Terri- Thanks! I wanted to make my goals realistic. And even though my hubby has been doing CrossFit longer than me I know I'm in better shape than him. Part of the timed test is to run 200 meters in the beginning and another 200 meters at the end. In the middle you do 10 (I think) squats, pushups, and rows. So if the weather is nice again tomorrow I'm going to try and go for a short run/jog. To get myself ready. Muah ha ha ha!

I'm sorry your dinner was so terrible! Hubby and I were even thinking about keeping Applebee's in mind for a restaurant we could Paleoize. I guess we were wrong! We would probably have better luck at Chili's but I would be tempted by their wonderful chips and salsa. I LOVE their chips and salsa! I could have that for a meal. LOL Your hubby seems to have quite the sweet tooth! It took hubby going to CrossFit to realize what his sugar cravings were doing to him. I've only been telling him for years. LOL I'm just glad we are FINALLY on the same page on health! I hope eventually your hubby jumps on the bandwagon too! It's so hard when they're not. I can relate, I was there for YEARS!

In all honesty, we rarely eat out. And if we do, it's Moe's. I am concerned about our 3 year wedding anniversary in August; we need to find a way to celebrate that doesn't involve food. I got time yet, I'll figure something out!

By the way, you are way better than me. I weigh myself every day! It's one of those compulsive habits; if I don't check it, I worry about it. My bariatric doctor actually told me it's a good thing, so I'm not going to argue. LOL

KLR- I'm looking forward to a tough week! LOL My muscles still hurt today but I have more energy and feel great! I'm super excited about continuing CrossFit!

I hope your feeling better today. I guess the chips didn't agree with you. :(

Dee - Those sound like good goals. It helps me to compete with my husband, too.

KLR - I don't know about you, however I can even over do healthy stuff. Do you think you ate too many chips? Did you eat a healthy dinner? I'm sure you will figure it out for next time.

Dinner last night was terrible. We went to AppleBee's. I didn't say anything to my husband, however the last few times we went there I had stomach problems. They use some kind of weird seasonings. I even had a salad there once that was weird. Last night I had a shrimp combo. The grilled shrimp had some kind of jelly sauce and the fried shrimp was mostly breading. Everyone around here is suspicious of seafood. I live in NM. So far away from any ocean. I did pass on the rice and scraped the sauce off. I wish I hadn't eaten the fried shrimp. I did learn that fried food is not for me. I kept wondering what kind of oil they use and then what do they use for the breading. Man I'm getting to be a picky eater!...LOL oh yes and the spinach was destroyed in some kind of seasoning and boiled to death.

After dinner my husband wanted something sweet to eat. We also had time to kill. We went to the coffee shop that has gelato. I had herbal tea.

It is a tradition for us to go out to dinner on certain nights. I may work on changing that. You know the weather is getting nice. I think I'll see if we can grill some good steaks instead.

I've read from several people to throw away the scale. They say that many times people build muscle before losing the weight. I usually weigh myself on Sunday. I did weight myself this morning. I'm so very disappointed because I put on weight. It is probably the nuts and butter.

Peace Out,

Terri

Beth - oh ya! I remember. It might be a rough week for you! But you are right, you will see results quickly, especially eating paleo!

I'm not feeling so great tonight. I ate some Trader Joes vegetable root chips in place of my yams tonight and I'm wondering if that is why I'm felling sick. Other than that its been a good day.

So the pain started later for me, much later. LOL I remember when my hubby first started going he was in a world of pain too. I do think I'm bouncing back better than he did. But that is probably because I was doing Zumba, so I was at least getting some form of exercise! Plus my hubby hadn't worked out for around 5 years! I worked out on and off during that time. My goal for my On-Ramp class (it lasts a month and breaks you into Crossfit) is to beat my husband's start and final time (yeah I'm a little competitive. LOL) and to lose at least 13 pounds. Since I've been sticking to Paleo so well I don't expect that will be a problem. emoticon

So for dinner we had salmon with peas and carrots. It was yummy!

Terri- Hey, we're all here to encourage each other! I'm happy to help! How was dinner?

Dee - so glad you liked the Crossfit. It is so great to experience and enjoy a variety of work outs. I saw a fellow hiker this morning and she went out yesterday. I wasn't able to go. It sounded like it was fun. Thanks for the at a boys on my sugar restraint. It means a lot to me.

For some reason I've been eating light today. Had prunes for breakfast. Then a large bowl of kale for lunch. We're going out to dinner. I will be sure to get my protein.

Got out late to run and it was hot. Finished my work out on our Treadclimber.

Peace Out,

Terri

OMG I am so excited! So today I went to Crossfit open gym with my hubby. I LOVE it!! I can't believe I thought Zumba was a good workout... I actually thought I was in halfway decent shape until this morning. LOL Crossfit is fabulous!!

So when I got home from Crossfit I had an omelet with potatoes, sausage, and tomatoes. I've noticed I'm eating a LOT of potatoes, I feel like I'm using them as a crutch. So next grocery shopping trip I'm not buying any. That'll fix it! LOL

Terri- I hope they figure out what is going on with your tongue! That sounds so annoying! Good job on having a sweet potato instead of sugar! I think you did what you were able in the situation (the hamburger) and that is something to be proud of!

KLR - wonderful on the increase in weights on your exercise program.

I didn't exercise at all yesterday. It felt weird. I did do pretty good on eating though. I was in a lot of pain with my tongue and really wanted to eat sugar. Instead I made a sweet potato. My husband wanted to get a fast food restaurant burger. That was also tempting. I did get a big hamburger and did not eat the bread. I also passed on the sweet potato fries he got. Perhaps not good, however I added lots of butter to my baked sweet potato as a reward.

Peace Out,

Terri

We had sunshine today, which is rare, so I pulled ups some dandelions. Ate rx, and had a tough, but successful crossfit workout. I pushed jerked 2 reps, 10lbs heavier than my last 1 rep! That was motivational and felt rewarding after working so hard this last week to stay strict to my paleo plan!

Dee - (you can call me Terri...love the KISS theory...LOL) I'm going to make a new recipe I got from a Paleo recipe site. (Don't remember the name of site. I still need to transfer bookmarks to new computer) It is called Chicken, Yam, and Chard Soup. It actually sounds rather strange, however I'm game to try anything once.

The eggs sat funny on my stomach this morning. I think it's all related to whatever is causing this tongue problem. I go to the specialist Tuesday.

So far I'm eating carrot sticks for lunch.

Peace Out,

Terri

BLOODCOVENANT- I have lots of chicken broth in the freezer. I hope this isn't a stupid question, but what do you do with it? I make it from the Sparkpeople recipe Sticky Chicken. It's completely Paleo. I like to add carrots and potatoes to it while it's roasting. Here's the recipe: recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-detai

It's so delicious!! Your day sounded great yesterday, and your breakfast sounded great this morning!

KLRUSSELL92- I love naps! LOL I was lazy and just had a potato with the hot dogs. I do think I had too much sodium yesterday though because my weight was slightly up this morning (not by much, less than a pound) so I'm watching it today. It sounds like you had a great day yesterday, good job on resisting the pizza!

So today marks day 10 of Paleo for me! I didn't have breakfast this morning, but I had a 3 egg omelette with potatoes (yeah, I know, I'm eating too many of them. LOL), some nitrite/nitrate free sausage, and tomato for lunch. I love omelets now! They fill me up so much!

So for dinner I'm making pork chops (I bake them in the oven) and I'm thinking steamed broccoli. Of course, I'll probably have some mustard with my pork. I want it with everything these days!

Dee - naps are great.

KLR - looking forward to sweet potato salad recipe.

Have the chicken bones cooking to make broth. It smells weird. I put it with water in crockpot. I think I read to cook it for 24 hrs. Is that right?

For lunch yesterday I had chicken and salad. For dinner I had turkey loaf, green beans, and salad. Had natural nuts as a snack.

This morning I'm going to fix eggs, yellow squash, green bell pepper, and mushrooms.

Peace Out,

Terri

Beth- Naps are awesome! Good job on your Paleo today! How did you end up serving your hot dogs?

Terri- Breakfast sounded really good! And way to stick with it even during a stressful time!

Robyn- 15 days! That is fantastic! Potlucks ARE hard! And more of them are just around the corner. I have an awesome recipe for paleo sweet potato salad (I actually ate it for dinner tonight) It's great for potlucks! I'll post it in the "Recipes needed...Please share here!"

mostly rx'd yesterday...had a few more almonds than I probably should have, not many though. Today I subbed my regular blueberries for strawberries...they needed to be used. And I ate leftover sweet potato salad instead of my regular...easy and quick mashed yams with chicken and it was a wonderful change. Plus, it was easier to resist the homemade pizza I made for my family when I knew I'd be eating the sweet potato salad! But I'm pretty lazy, so I'm sure tomorrow it will be mashed yams and chicken again, which I love, but it was just nice to have a change.

BLOODCOVENANT- Good for you for putting yourself first! Who wants to be on the phone while they're eating anyway? Ugh! Your breakfast sounds like it was really good!

ROBYNLN- That is so awesome, you did great! Potlucks are hard because you never know what's going to be there. You are an inspiration to us all!

I've been doing well today. I had 2 tbsp of almond butter with a banana for breakfast, had nitrite/nitrate free organic bacon and a tomato for lunch and having nitrite/nitrate free organic hotdogs for dinner (no buns and with mustard!). Not sure what to have with those yet though. working on figuring that out. LOL

I had to get up earlier today so I took a nap today. It was awesome! I was so tired.

I hope everyone is having a good day!

Robyn - you are an inspiration! Potlucks and eating at restaurant is harder than I thought. We just have to be creative. It is so worth it. I love lemon. Where did you get that dessert recipe?

Just had three scrambled eggs with mushrooms and spinach in it and pork chop. My sister called and it was a stressful conversation. I thought about what that was doing to my digestion. When I mentioned that I was trying to eat breakfast she simply said that I could listen. I finally got off the phone. It is all part of taking care of myself.

Peace Out,

Terri

Yesterday, I completed day 15 of my paleo "streak". It was hard. We had a potluck at work. I knew ahead of time I would have to pass on most of the dishes, but I expected SOMEONE would make a big green salad that I could eat w/the provided meat. There was NOTHING. Anything resembling a veg was either buried in pasta or covered in mayonnaise. My dept was assigned desserts, so I made coconut lemon squares from FastPaleo. At least I had a dessert option. There were some very tempting chocolate brownies and cookies, but I passed. I rounded out my meal w/an egg veg muffin I had stashed in the office.

KLR - Thanks for the compassion toward choking situation. It sounds like you are learning a lot about yourself in the crossfit. That is wonderful. I've taken so many herbs and supplements. I see now that in many cases it just may be a waste of money. I'm slowly bringing some stuff back into my life. Good quality makes a huge difference. Good going on the eating plan.

Dee - good to see you. Wonderful you are losing weight.

I was very tired yesterday. I didn't sleep well the night before. I ate to plan, however probably had too many natural nuts. I'm glad that I finished the sausage for dinner. It was way too greasy. I won't be getting that again. I did have a good salad with it.

I did get out and run yesterday.

Peace Out,

Terri

So just checking in... I had a good day today, I feel so much better today than I did yesterday. My weight moved today as well. Yay! I also had some peppers and homemade guacamole today. I'm trying to eat veggies that I don't usually eat. So I'm progressing well, I think.

I hope everyone had a good day today!

Sorry you had a rough time at the restaurant yesterday! It sounds like you made healthy choices, it's too bad you weren't able to enjoy your salad and were hungry though. I hope the specialist is able to help out. That doesn't sound fun at all! I hope you are feeling better now.
I have also thought about bringing my own small bottle of olive oil to restaurants. They never have it when I ask for it. They just have Italian dressing that they either don't know what kind of oil is used for it, or vegetable oil.
The only supplement I take is high quality fish oil. I'm not a supplement fan. I like to think if you are eating the right foods, you should be able to get all the nutrients you need (including fish oil...I'm just not a huge fan of fish!)
Crossfit is amazing. It is hard. But I love it because I'm getting strong, not bulky, and learning to do new things almost everyday! It is a combination of a lot of different things like Olympic lifting, power lifting, gymnastics, and cardio exercise (and more) and its different everyday which keeps it interesting and fun and the workout itself is usually under 20 minutes. The whole class is only an hour. It can all be scaled to your abilities, so anyone can do it. Since I've started crossfit my way of thinking has changed from "I want to be skinny" to "I want to be lean and strong and healthy". Everyday I care a little less of what I look like, or can do, compared to others and I'm moving closer to 100% concern about being MY best. People at crossfit are also the most friendly and supportive community of people you will ever meet. There's my promo :-)

Yesterday I mostly ate rx. I had ground beef instead of chicken for dinner, and I didn't measure it like I should have. Not that I couldn't sub ground beef for the chicken, but I just didn't take the time to figure out how much would be a good sub. And I had a small portion of the egg casserole that I made for the rest of the family BUT it was still all paleo, and I feel good about that.

Dee - I never heard of "carb-flu" either. That is interesting. I'm a sugar addict. Detoxing from that is bad. What is crossfit? I'm so glad you are getting into something that excites you. I did end up find a new Nesco dehydrator on Ebay for $38. That was the brand I liked that I was going to buy used for $30. The other new one was a Rosco for $30. It looked like they were more expensive on Amazon.

KLR - that is a big salad! Good on you with sticking to your plan.

I'm so grateful for this challenge thread. It is amazing how it helps to keep me accountable. Yesterday I had a weird and funny experience. My hubby and I met for lunch. I wanted to try their salad with salmon on top, however they make it with romaine lettuce. The salad with chicken is made with spinach. I had a great idea to ask if they could substitute spinach for the romaine lettuce. No problem. Then I asked for a side of lemons and olive oil. She did give me the lemons, however I think it was vegetable oil. (I carry stevia so I don't have to use artificial sweetener. Do I need to carry olive oil, too?...LOL any suggestions) Any way, I'm having a problem with my tongue (going to a specialist Tuesday) and it causes me to choke some times. It happened in the restaurant. I got some spinach in my wind pipe. It was terrible. Not only was I in public, however it was the worst attack I've had. I was so embarrassed. I settled down, drank some water, and tried to eat some more. I couldn't eat. The waitress had come by and in front of her, he suggested some dessert. I was rather abrupt and well, mean. I had passes on the bread they serve, the "taste" of lasagna he had offered, and now he thinks I'm gong to do dessert. The waitress actually says "a piece of cheese cake will make you feel better"...What?! Are you kidding me?! I did squeeze out a "no, thank you" to each of them. I had really lost my breath there for a bit and I know they were worried. I'm so weak when it comes to desserts that it's more my issues than theirs any way.

So in the end, I left hungry and still passing on dessert. I even went to yoga in the evening. I did finish the salmon and most of spinach salad after yoga. Oh and I ran 3 miles yesterday morning.

This morning I had a sweet potatoe and leftover turkey loaf.

Perhaps I should start a new thread. I would like to know what you all do for vitamin/mineral supplements. Would that be a good thread to start?

Peace Out,

Terri

I didn't hear about it until I started Paleo. It's basically flu-like symptoms you get from detoxing all the bad carbs out of your system. And I was a total carb addict! My hubby isn't dealing with it nearly as bad as I am. It'll pass though! And I'm really excited about Crossfit! I start May 6th, so it gives me time to deal with my body adjusting to my new diet. (And by diet I mean new eating habits!)

I did eat the same thing for dinner. It was the only thing my body wanted.

Beth - What is "carb flu"? I've never heard of it before. I hope you love crossfit! I do!

I rx'd the rest of my busy day yesterday, yay! I had my rx breakfast, been to crossfit this morning (didn't rx anything, but still worked hard) and now I'm eating lunch.

My rx lunch is 1 cup tomato, 2 1/4 cup shredded cabbage, 1 whole cucumber 9 almonds 3 oz of boneless skinless chicken (but today I'm having pork). I use some light tasting olive oil and salt as a dressing. It's a big salad. It takes me 30 minutes to eat! But it's good.

That's awesome that you found a dehydrator! I wouldn't buy a used one unless it was from someone I knew! We found a couple we liked on Amazon, but we gotta wait a little bit before we get one. The one we have works for now anyway!

So I was feeling great the last few days and now today I feel all "carb-fluy" again. Is this something that comes and goes for awhile? My chiropractor did tell me it takes about 3 weeks to get everything out of your system. I've also been having serious brain farts and have been super emotional, and he said it's because my body is still adjusting and to give it time. Oy.

So on May 6th I'm starting Crossfit! I'm really excited about it and I already kinda know what to expect because hubby is doing it now. Just after reading the book I thought it would be a good idea for me to do it. Plus my chiropractor and my hubby have been on my case to do it, so here we go. LOL I really need to be more active anyhow, I haven't been as active as I want to be, so I think this will give me the push I need.

So for breakfast I had an omelette with nitrate/nitrite free sausage and potatoes with some hot sauce on it. I know it's odd to have hot sauce when I don't feel well, but my body was really craving it. Same with the potatoes. I think it was the healthy carbs and vinegar. I swear I want the same thing for dinner. And I've been craving vinegar like crazy. LOL

Dee - okay, thanks. I think I found one I like on Ebay. There is a used one that is much better, however my husband wants me to get a new one. That way I can return it if there are any problems. I'm sure that is wiser.

Those different kind of veggie chips sound wonderful.

KLR - great breakfast.

Lucs - I'm finding I need to watch what makes my sugar spike, too. I'm having a bit of trouble remembering the protein at lunch, too.

I went to grocery store and health food store today. It was amazing how much easier it is to shop. I actually spent less money. I saw some unsweetened, organic coconut chips that are great in the trail mix. I also got unsweetened carob chips. They melt too easily, though. I put the mix in the freezer.

Peace Out,

Terri

you are inspiring me to drag out my dehydrator! I want to experiment and try to make dehydrated sweet potato chips. I don't like making regular sweet potato chips. They're hard to cut and always turn out too greasy, or too soggy. I don't have a recipe or anything...just want to experiment. Maybe not today though. I've got a busy day today!

My rx'd breakfast - 3 eggs, 1 cup tomato, 1/2 cup salsa, 1/2 cup frozen blueberries and 1T + 1t coconut flakes. Yum!

Bloodcovenant- The dehydrator we currently have we got from my mom because she wasn't using it, so we don't have a book or anything. However, we are going to look for a better one. But the one we have works for now anyway!

I'm going to have a banana with 2 tbsp of cashew butter for breakfast. Not sure about lunch yet, maybe an omelette!

Have a great day everyone!!

Lots of awesome updates and progress!! YAY!

I do potatoes in very minimal moderation. But if my little one wants to share some fries with me when we go out to lunch occasionally...I do :)

100% varies from person to person what carbs help/hurt, etc. I can't do rice: sends my blood sugars through the roof. But potatoes, not as bad. No that I've switched to paleo (About 4 months now) I don't do rice etc but I have done the occasional corn tortilla.

Bfast: coffee/protein shake w/ avocado, spinach, almond milk.
Snack: bell peppers, cucumbers, just realized I forgot to bring a protein with me. Opps. :/
Lunch: soup/salad
Dinner: leftover pork chops with steamed spinach

Dee - Good on you realizing that the surgery is not an all inclusive answer. I would think it is similar to when I went to the nutritionist. She didn't like the Nutrasistim type diet plans. She said that it doesn't teach how to eat. Also, many people eat the whole month supply at once. I could see doing that. I have a terrible time with emotional binging. Any recommendations on buying a dehydrator would be appreciated. I'd like to do meats, herbs, and if possible leaves for tea.

KLR - Very good on such a good eating day. Super on the water intake.

Hubby didn't feel like Chinese last night. We had leftover chicken, green beans, and salad. I will make the other tonight. Had sausage and sweet potato for breakfast.

Peace Out,

Terri

I had a perfect RX day today. Even drank all of my water.

I can do it again tomorrow too if I pre-plan around my busy day.

I do eat potatoes as well, but in moderation. Like I made potato fries yesterday, so I won't have any potatoes today. It hasn't triggered any carb cravings either, or hurt my weight loss. But then, I'm only on my first week too. It's something I'm going to keep an eye on though!

I know of people as well who have gained all their weight back after having gastric bypass. I told myself when I had it that I refused to be one of them! (I heard of one person who had it done 4 times!! Maybe instead of constantly returning to surgery, you need to figure out what you're doing wrong!) Yes, I did gain some weight back, but I realized what was happening and went back to my healthy (actually even healthier this time!) habits. I can't believe how quickly I'm losing and that I've kicked my sugar/carb cravings! This is awesome! I'm most happy with the results I'm getting from going Paleo! My "carb flu" is starting to taper off as well. Yay!! I think I'll be able to return to Zumba Tuesday. I'm excited about that, I've missed it. I LOVE Zumba!

I highly recommend a dehydrator. Homemade beef jerky is the best! I keep sneaking some. I swear I'm going to eat the whole bag, it's so delicious! LOL

Thanks for your post on potatoes, I did a blog with this same link awhile back.

The thing is, results vary depending on the individual. I can incorporate a reasonable portion of white potatoes or sweet potatoes everyday with no problem in stalling my weight as long as my carbs stay within 50 - 80 grams and I eat them according to my workouts. I eat Trader Joe’s Country Potatoes with Haricots Verts & Wild Mushrooms (1/2 cup 18 carbs with 3 fiber (15 net carbs). They are delicious. I also buy bags of the Harticots Verts green beans and add 1 cup or so to the 1/2 cup of the potato mixture and eat with a protein. I eat this kind of meal at lunch. No starchy carbs in the evening unless my workout was really intense.

I also cycle my carbs/calories according to my workouts and so far it has worked as long as I watch my carbs. Robb Wolf mentioned white potatoes here is an article he posted on his website: "MEAT AND POTATOES: BACK ON THE MENU?" robbwolf.com/2011/11/03/meat-potatoe
s-
back-on-the-menu/

,,, as the writer points out, "a lot of people cannot process dense carb sources in a healthy way. It ultimately depends on your activity level and metabolic status. Basically those carbs fuel your activity level"... Potatoes are not unhealthy carbs.

Terri - a block is a term used for the zone diet. You eat the same number "blocks" of protein, carbs, and fat. 7 grams of protein = 1 block of protein. 9 grams of carbs = 1 block of carbs. 1,5 grams of fat = 1 block of fat. The number of blocks you eat depends on if you are male or female, and your body type. I eat 3 blocks for breakfast lunch and dinner, and I eat a 1 block snack 2x a day. You can zone on different diets, I follow it paleo. If you're interested, a basic, but complete explanation can be found at the crossfit journal site. They have a free PDF download explaining it from May 2004. It has been the best way I found for myself to lean out...when I follow it

Beth - That is SO cool that you don't like sugar anymore! I hope that happens for me someday.

KLR - what do you mean by "protein & fat blocks"? Good job on moderation of piece of cake.

Beth - Yahoooo on sugar addiction relief. I know two women that put weight back on after gastric bypass. I'm so glad you are sticking with a good diet and exercise. I may have to get a dehydrator.

Went to potluck last night. Passed on all bread, pasta/rice, bean dishes, and desserts. My husband even got me a dessert that looked so good. The woman that made the lemon dessert (one of my favs) is an excellent cook. I passed on it!

I'm still having problems with being hungry at night. I had avocado and natural nuts last night.

Peace Out,

Terri

Did ok at the dinner tonight. The only thing I ate that wasn't paleo was ranch dressing, one small red potato and well.....chocolate cake! But I didn't eat the whole humongous piece I was served, and I didn't eat any rolls. Not beating myself up over it because I ate RX the rest of the day and drank all of my water. Tomorrow aiming for a perfect day.

Well when I do yoga I do it on the Wii Fit. It's nice because it makes you keep the dot in the yellow circle. I didn't end up doing it today though because hubby and I went shopping and I got lots of walking in! I may do it tomorrow though. The good news is, I feel like I'm starting to get my energy back! I feel so much better today than I did yesterday.

So something cool happened today! I no longer like sugar! I had some beef jerky we bought from the store (we had to, hubby hadn't made more homemade stuff yet) and I could taste every bit of sugar! (And we bought the stuff with the lowest sugar count!) I told my hubby he could have the rest because I couldn't handle the sugar. This is coming from someone that was a TOTAL sugar addict! He made homemade jerky today, so I'm most happy. I'm so glad we have a dehydrator! Homemade jerky is so good, and no sugar!

And yep, I have lost a lot of weight. I did have gastric bypass in September of 2009, which did help, but I also made sure to eat right (well what I thought was right!) and exercise. I was working out 10 days after my surgery! I got all the way down to 173, but then I went through a rough patch a couple years ago. I had a partial hysterectomy and I had a really rough time recovering. It took me a year and I wasn't able to work out at all during that time, so I really got off track. I went through I mild depression too. It was a tough time! So it's taken me forever to get back into it, but now I finally am! Paleo is perfect for me because with gastric bypass, it's drilled into your head to eat protein first. Plus the foods are so filling, it's like I just had surgery again. My tummy has definitely shrunk. Before Paleo I was hungry all the time and eating all the time (carbs and sugars= addiction!) but since I started Paleo I hardly want to eat! I hardly even snack anymore, it's great!

Sorry this is so long, I just had lots to share! LOL I hope everyone is doing great!

Terri - Good job passing up on the ice cream and cookies! I've been eating paleo for about 18 months. Cookies are my downfall.

Beth - how was yoga? I've gone to a few yoga classes in the past and need to look into going more often!

Yesterday I strayed a bit and had a small amount of cheese, not enough water, and ate too many protein and fat blocks because I was out of all my veggies that I normally have and I was too tired to think of a good alternative or to cook a sweet potato, But I did eat mainly paleo.

Yesterday, I went to crossfit in the morning (after 2 weeks of not going), went to PlanetFitness with my son in the afternoon, and ice skating with my daughter last night! I was SO tired and bit sore this morning!

Today I have eaten RX so far, but I will be going to a church dinner and I'm sure it will be tough to eat strict, so I'll do the best I can.

Hi Miss Beth - I love your Chinese Proverb. That's the way I feel about my health right now. I'm so happy you are seeing so much success already. It looks like you've come a long way on your weight loss progress. Did you do the yoga? I love yoga.

Had spinach/mushroom omelet for breakfast. Plain yogurt, blueberries, and stevia for lunch.

Peace Out,

Terri

So for me today is day 5. This is my first 30 day challenge, so I started a couple days late (the 16th), as we had to buy the food.

So I'm really proud of myself! I'm doing really great and I'm dropping pounds like crazy! I've been tracking my food and I'm amazed at how little I eat and how long I'm satisfied. However, I am going through the withdrawal symptoms so I'm pretty tired right now. But I know it will pass! The only thing I've been craving is cheese and I'm finding that is starting to subside this morning. Yay!

I think I am going to do some yoga today. I want to get in some form of exercise and it's freaking cold outside! That's spring in Wisconsin for ya! LOL

I hope everyone else is doing well!

KLR - Hi. I can totally relate to the cookie temptation. It sounds like you are more familiar with Paleo than me. I was just introduced last week and trying to learn all I can.

Luc - thanks for all the info on the stock. They can not figure out what is wrong with the tongue. I am being referred to an ENT specialist. Also, need some more blood work.

I happened on an article on here about homeopathy. While I was in the doctors office I saw that there is someone in this area who I want to go see. I didn't get out of the doctors until late and then yesterday I forgot. I will contact them Monday.

Yesterday - Bkst: sweet potato & leftover pork chop. Snack: natural whole nut & dried fruit trail mix. Lunch: Chinese buffet (no rice or noodles, but had snow shrimp) Dinner: grilled trout, asparagus, and roasted veggies. Snack: avacado, trail mix, and peanuts.

I think the sugar in the snow shrimp might have triggered something in me. I was craving sugar real bad last night. The dried fruit in trail mix helped. I ate too many peanuts, though. I probably had 3 ounces. Feel good I didn't eat the ice cream or cookies I usually would binge on though. It's progress.

Peace Out,

Terri

I haven't been on sparkpeople for a long time...way before Paleo was a thing...so now I'm trying to figure this all out again. If I'm posting in the wrong place, please don't get mad at me, but help me out!

Just joined the Paleo Diet team today because I was looking for some accountability for my paleo efforts. I was going to wait and join the challenge till tomorrow, but found myself wanting to eat a cookie. So here I am a few days behind everyone, but ready to be accountable!

My goal is to eat my RX'd paleo/zone meal plan, that my coach made for me, daily during the remaining days of the challenge. So that is how I will post daily either RX, or a list of where I diverted and why.
Thanks!

Wow, I haven't heard of that, no. Sounds like it wouldn't be fun for sure :/ What do they need to do to treat it?

I do bone broth with turkey, chicken or beef bones. Toss bones (generally I prefer them roasted first but if feeling lazy I don't bother ;) ) in the crockpot, fill with water, add a few splashes vinegar (most people use Apple Cider: I use white because ACV makes me gag, just the smell alone!). That helps draw the minerals out of the bones. Then I put it on high for a couple hours, then drop the temp down to low and let it run, adding water if needed, for 24-36 hours. Beef sometimes I'll let go a bit more even. Some people make it more of a broth with veggies and I am one of those. To me, it's a great way to add flavor and nutrients and use up old veggies etc and since I use the bone broth as a "stock"/base for a TON of things...building flavor up is important to me:) So I generally toss in odds and ends of onions, celery, carrots, maybe parsnips. Nothing strongly flavored though like garlic or broccoli or whatever. Then when it's done I drain it through a fine colander and put it in a big pot and let it chill (during the winter it goes on the balcony, during summer, I make room in the fridge). Once it cools and the fat solidifies on top, I pull it out, scrape the fat off into a jar (I have one for each type of fat) and the broth goes through a fine cheesecloth straining and then packaged and frozen. The fat I use to sautee veggies or eggs etc.

Today, coffee shake, leftover soup for breakfast.
Chicken sausage links (breakfast style) and a plum for snack.
Salad and soup for lunch.
Dinner: ???

How do you do broth?

I'm at doctor's office because of ongoing problem with blocked glands under tongue. Has anyone heard of that?

UGH hit a wrong button and post is gone. Sigh.

Ok, bfast was fine, lunch was out for work thing and I ate ok but too much, a lot too much :/ Dinner will be light, some homemade soup and maybe a salad if I'm hungry enough.

LOVE cooking whole chickens in the crockpot! So easy :) Did that this past weekend and will be making bone broth this weekend from the roasted bones.

Lucsmommy - I will for sure do that spinach/egg "muffin". It is so much fun to see what can be done with veggies now.

I love the suggestion of making a big thing of salad ahead of time. I made some Monday and finished is last night. I made up some more this morning.

I got the munchies last night and had a avocado with fresh pepper and sea salt. It was so very satisfying.

Made a chicken fajita recipe from the Paleo Recipe site last night. It was wonderful.

This morning I was so hungry. I decided to scramble 4 eggs with sauteed spinach/mushroom/zucchini and 4 organic turkey bacons. I am stuffed. It was healthy though!

I think for lunch I'll have the salad, homemade minestrone soup, and a salmon burger.

I have a whole chicken and veggies in the crock pot for dinner.

Peace Out,

Terri

YAY for passing on the bread, but I'm always sad to see people cook veggies to death :/ My mom used to do that and I grew up thinking veggies had to taste like mushy and blech lol. SO NOT TRUE! Now I love them :)

The spinach egg "muffins" are super easy. Eggs and spinach and canadian bacon/ham/sausage (whatever meat I have on hand) and toss into a muffin tin (I use the silicone muffin cups and give them a light olive oil mist first) and bake. Because I don;t like chunks of spinach in my eggs I toss the eggs/spinach in a blender to make it smooth and then fold in the other meats. Also diced bell peppers if I have them is great. I make a big batch and freeze some for a fast breakfast.

Today, coffee shake (milk, coffee, cocoa powder, spinach), scrambled eggs (2 whole, 2 whites) and 1/2 avocado.

Snack (AM or PM, of needed): cutie, turkey pepperonis

Lunch: chicken tortilla soup w/ avocado, sliced cucumbers and bell peppers

Dinner: not sure yet, which is unusual for me, but we have a few different leftovers to eat up so will probably be a mishmash

What is the spinach/egg "muffin"?

Just had grilled trout, greens, sweet potato, & salad (olive oil & lemon), it was in a restaurant though, the fish was too salty and the greens were boiled to death. Glad I'm learning to taste healthy food. Oh and all that bread! I just pass on it.

Peace Out,

Terri

I really limit potatoes as well because I am trying to combine lower carb into my lifestyle. But nice to know.

Interesting! I tend to limit potatoes while losing weight because they create a carb craving for me, and I hate sweet potatoes anyways so rarely have them (although I make them for me son).
It would be interesting to see a Robb Wolfe etc response, just out of curiosity. it all sounds groovy to me but food science is tricky!

Spinach/egg "muffins" with breakfast and my coffee "shake".
Got busy and had meetings so it was a few hours later and I was STARVING so I grabbed my 2 oz of turkey burger I had brought for an afternoon snack to hold me over until lunch.
Lunch is homemade chicken tortilla soup (no tortilla lol) and sliced cucumbers and raw bell peppers.
I have a cutie orange with me for later and a few pepperonis ;)
Dinner, roasted chicken. Was supposed to have it last night but we made a Laur'as Lean Sirloin instead with sauteed zucchini/asparagus (cooked in chicken fat from our giblet gravy ;) ) So chicken with cauliflower "mashed potatoes" and the last of the veggies.

Wahoo here we go again! :)

Had a planned IF this morning to go until lunch but my body is telling me it needs fuel this morning so ... had my normal coffee shake without the avocado I normally add (coffee, almond milk, spinach, cocoa powder, xylitol, ice) and then had some carrots (limited to what I brought for lunch lol) and will probably eat my turkey before lunch to hold me over.
Planned for rest of day:
Lunch: Homemade chicken tortilla soup (sans tortilla lol) made with bone broth, and a plum.
Snack: cutie, nuts
Dinner: roasted chicken, bone broth gravy, sauted asparagus and zucchini

Tonight is a bodyweight workout.

Okay, I think I will eat the yogurt. I was asked by my husband what I was going to do with the bread and tortillas. I'm definitely not eating those.

I felt like I did good yesterday. I thought I would try making turkey loaf without crackers or bread. It came out very good. The hardest time for me is in the evening while watching a movie. I passed on the popcorn and had a few dried apricots.

In the middle of the night I was very hungry. So I reheated some turkey loaf and steamed some broccoli. Yeah me!

Peace Out,

Terri

Yes, I would like to join in. I already have plain, 0 fat Greek yogurt in my fridge, though. I had some this morning with fresh blueberries and Stevia. Is it okay to finish that off during this or should I get rid of it?

I'm not doing Whole 30 but, as of last Wed, I've challenged myself to see how many days I can streak together following 3 rules: 1) no gluten, 2) no artificial sweeteners, 3) no processed seed oils. Those 3 simple rules eliminate most processed junk foods and if I can follow them, I will be on a good track.

Today is Day 4. I hope you don't mind me using this thread to help keep me accountable.
