Good for you for planning ahead. emoticon I haven't been eating out at all, which is something I've always loved. I'm looking forward to adding fruit so I can start making muffins or paleo bars, other little things for planning ahead or being on the go. I'm also looking forward to trying some of the dessert recipes. They all look so good. I'm finding it really easy to eat this way 'cause all the food is so good I haven't really felt that deprived, other than the fruit/sweets.

Avovata- congrats on the 21 days paleo, and no sugar! that's great, and awesome how much your body has improved.

I am now on day 5!! Woo hoo. I have been tempted, but worked really hard to think about what that choice would mean, and now that I'm getting more days into this, I have more days to "throw away" so to speak if I were to eat something I shouldn't.

Tonight I have a potluck to go to, but I've already planned the paleo dish that I am bringing and have made a decision that I won't eat what others bring unless it follows the paleo way!

I'm on day 21 of paleo, and day 26 of no sugar, including fruit.

I started because I had an intestinal candida problem which was making my interstitial cystitis much much worse. I didn't even know I had IC before the candida problem. (IC is sort of like IBS, but for the bladder) After eating paleo one day, my bladder felt better, and just kept improving, which seemed a miracle since previously I felt like I couldn't eat anything. The candida practically disappeared in a week, which really surprised my naturopath. She said it takes about 6-8wks to see that kind of improvement, and I wasn't even taking any yeast killing meds. An unexpected side effect is the chronic pain I've had in my hip from a car accident five years ago, has disappeared. I can sleep on my right side all night long if I like.

I haven't had any cheats, but I do seem to have a stronger will power with food than most people I know. Next week I get to add fruit back in to my diet. I can't wait. I eventually plan to add in raw dairy, but that won't be for at least a couple weeks. I already know I don't have a problem with dairy, and I miss it.

I know I never would have tried paleo if it hadn't been for my earlier health problems, so I'm grateful for them. In the last three weeks, I've lost an inch off everything, and I feel great. I haven't even been exercising, but I will start. I know I need to do that too.

Sorry this is so long, I'm just excited. emoticon emoticon

I think you mentally have to tell yourself to just shut if off cold turkey. The Whole 30 book talks a lot about the whole "willpower" thing and how it's not always that. Have you read the book? I find that the longer I get into this the easier and easier it is..I haven't been tempted at all. Maybe you can for the first week or two just avoid restaurants, etc until you are reset?
In the end, you have to be ready and if it means waiting til a better time..then do what works for you. Either way you are worth it!

Differently next time....I'm not sure. My problem isn't meals- I have found some great meals online and in a cook book I bought- I can eat so well for the whole day- then derail myself on the drive home from a long shift at work, or tiring workout at the gym. it's All in my head.
The crazy part, my mom has been asking me about food lately. She has some pre-diatbetes stuff and low thyroid so I'm trying to encourage a more paleo orientated type of eating. So I told her ALL about it it, but she isn't ready to give certain this up.
Maybe i'm not ready? for certain things. I mean, I'm ready, but it's a lack of will power or something. I need to find that.

How is everyone else doing?

So what would you do different to avoid those cheats next time?
I am doing well-end of Day 2. Biggest thing will be learning some new recipes and ways of cooking..I've stuck to the basics for way too long!

Cause of cheat?? Well, probably the first cheat (on the 1st) because I was leaving work and hungry....so bought candy and ate them. Stupid that I didn't just not buy them. Boo. Second cheat the next day- my grandparents 25thwedding party- so many desserts, I stayed away until about 9pm. I also avoided alcohol- a win there, and I didn't eat a piece of cake. 2 wins then, but ate some cream puffs. Not only cheat, but gluten.

I made it through sunday!! 1 day down. I'm feeling motivated today.

How is everyone else doing?

I have already cheated. Crap. I'm disappointed in myself, but I will just pick myself up and keep going. I guess I'm starting over again today.

It's great to have group motivation! I am getting all the materials read..doing a kickstart this weekend and official start for me is on Tuesday. Sometimes I think just telling yourself to make it 30 days and you can't cheat gives you a goal to work on. I think a lot of it is emotional too..which is why I plan to avoid eating out if I can:)

Yes, I totally plan to do it too! I was already planning to and now have even more motivation after seeing your post. I have the book, printed all the free downloadable guides, etc.and am all set to go (may just need to do some more grocery shopping this weekend). Good luck to you and everyone else who plans to do the same! emoticon

I find for me that any cheating is not at all worth it. But I do make a point to look for yummy alternatives so I will still have desserts, snacks etc. and I also make sure I never limit food intake to avoid the whole deprivation and/or hunger cycle. Whenever I'm tempted to cheat I do NOT try to resist it, because this will fail at some point, rather I will immediately think about what I CAN eat that would satisfy me. Sometimes this will cost more money or take more time. But I know I'm worth it. emoticon

Hello,

I have been trying to start a whole 30, or 30 day challenge since December. I keep starting and then seeing something I just can't/don't say no to. Very frustrating. So, perhaps if I start with you guys I can have success.
Since December I Have drastically increased my protein and fat, and decreased my carbs, the main source is veggies, but sometimes I cheat, but the cheating is too much, and too often. And then the odd time I eat ice cream, which doesn't agree with me. I really want to get through a whole 30 days of strict paleo, and then I will gradually try things, and if some stuff doesn't give me too much troubles, I plan to have it as only a once weekly cheat meal. Like chocolate, or maybe the odd ice cream or beer.
Here's to the next 30 days!

Glenda

I have some digestive distress and just a general feeling of up/down. I know that the way I feel isn't horrible but not optimum so working to find that right Paleo balance for me!:) I don't have a gallbladder either so that plays into it...

I'm started following the paleo diet in september after years of being a vegetarian, but I have gotten a little off track recently. No major health problems, but I am hypoglycemic, and have occasional migraines (though, the migraines seem to disappear when I remove gluten from my diet), but that's really it. How about you?

I am mostly Paleo now..just working to find that right "mix" for me to give optimum health. I have no gallbladder/Chron's so working on that. I think this will give me a good reset and also work on supplementation to at least get a base!:)

I've been grain-free, legume-free, mostly sugar free, very low-carb for about a year. Just found out I'm sensitive to dairy, any kind. So now I'm really pretty much paleo.

I guess it's the first time that I'm going to do it for a whole month since in February I had a little interruption experimenting with dairy.
So if that counts I'm planning on it.
