Day Two for me, doing well. Boy, did I sleep great last night! I haven't been that pleasantly sleepy that early in years. I'm assuming it's the diet, but it doesn't seem like you'd get results so fast! Anyhow, I am not complaining!!
Cheers ~

YES! Thank you, Maggie! I gave myself the weekend as well and did a major grocery buy yesterday. I've never bought so much meat at one time!
I'm reading ... is it Food First? ... that book. This is a huge HUGE change for me. I eat very little meat normally.
This morning I had my first paleo breakfast - I baked a sweet potato last night and heated it up in a frying pan along with two eggs. Yum :-)
Cheers and good luck to all of us ~

I was going to start Feb. 1 but didn't; I am planning on starting Monday, the 4th, giving myself the weekend to do a complete clean-out, reorganization of my pantry and fridge and menu planning.

Is there anything in particular we have to do while in the challenge? Like post daily or weekly? Do we post our weight?

I think that I would like to start a 30 day paleo challenge. I have been eating paleo since Nov 5 and have lost 17 lbs with many more lbs to loose. The diet has gone well, and included Christmas, New Years, and a vacation to Disney to run a marathon and a half followed by a cruise. I still lost well during that time. I seem to be stalled briefly and look forward to a challenge to push myself to continue to loose weight. I can start either Friday or Sunday and will watch for when people prefer to start.

How does a 30 day challenge sound for February? (... I know that there are only 28 days in February)... we could start on the 1st (Friday), 3rd (Sunday)... please give me your thoughts on this. If you agree I will create a dated thread for the challenge. Thanks, ~ Dee

My kids are 10 & 11. They most definetly don't follow the plan when they are at school, friends, or dining out. I sat across from them tonight at a restaurant while they had non- paleo foods. My husband is also not a paleo eater. They are all 3 very supportive of me and don't offer me bites. They don't buy trigger foods and keep them in the house. Although I think he hides chocolate someplace...........
At home the boys always smile and say my foods awesome. Then they sneak in cheats when I'm not around or looking. ;)

I can't remember which day of whole 30 I'm on. We started one the 10th. So, day 11. :) It's going well. I talked with coworkers before starting and my immediate coworker has been so supportive. I'd have to say she's been wonderful.

I started Paleo for the first time 2 weeks ago as of tomorrow. I love it! I am down 10.5 lbs already. I just can't stop recommending this diet to everyone I meet. I feel goood. I have 1 other friend who is doing it to and was successful in the past but fell off the wagon. I would love to gain more support on this and ideas.

I'm still going strong. I've made a few mistakes on whole 30. For some reason I thought we were supposed to be having 5-6 small meals a day. I've always found this difficult. Now I'm having 3 meals a day. And a ton of veggies!

So today is day 3 for me. I'm doing well. It's not my first time doing the Whole 30 so I have a few recipes stored away. I googled recipes and I'm amazed at how many more sites there are now! I'm planning my shopping now. :)

The Whole30 website has some great tips. One is to get the junk out of your house, two is to have food bought/planned. Maybe not specificaly what to eat each day but "emergency" frozen paleo meals you made in advance and boiled eggs/fish/veggies you can make quick. for instance, I come home from work, I'm starving, I need food NOW. I grab some frozen stir fry veggies and some chicken I pre cooked and froze in individual packets. I heat up some oil, pop in an onion, the chicken and when thats warming I add the veggies. In about the time I get changed, let the dog in or out and empty the dishwasher, dinner is ready.

Or I have some boiled eggs handy, or veggies and approved dip, etc.

I'm not a "I'll eat this on this day" planner, but I love having food in individual packets in my freezer, I can grab an option or two and take to work.

(Day 10 here)

Day 4..not the best. I woke up late and had no time to make breakfast. So the only thing quick I had was a bag of instant oatmeal. The rest of the day was fine from there, except I didn't eat any veggies today. I didn't realize how much planning was needed to do this. I need to work on that. Feel kinda low today, tired and my belly feels "icky". Wonder if that is carb-flu or I'm actually getting the flu?
I knew I wouldn't be perfect, but I'm going to keep on going. This is a lifestyle change not a diet. It takes time to change old habits.

Hi all, I'd like to join the party here! Yesterday was my day one. I did Paleo a couple years ago with great results; I'm not really sure why I fell off the wagon. I have found that tapering my sugar and carb intake for about a week before starting really minimizes that "carb flu". I hope I can stick with it this time; I'm sure I can commit to 30 days, though!

Carb flu - the withdrawal feeling when first going on a low carb diet. Headachy, cranky, miserable feeling. Happens often if you go from a standard American diet one day to cutting out the carbs or dramatically lowering them the next. It actually does feel like the flu, and can last a week or so. I've experienced it first hand a couple times when I tried to clean up my diet (going on south beach diet for example). The headaches are the worst. I'm reading Wheat Belly, and it has some good explanations of why this occurs. It is basically just like going off of heroin or crack. So, I am eating some carbs - enough to keep that awful feeling away!

LUV-2-RUN, congrats on the 5lbs!! I'm sending positive vibes your way for a great day tomorrow. You can do it. I know what you mean it is sooo hard at work. We still have candy left over from the holidays at work...so far I have resisted.
Today is day 3 for me. Kinda a hard day, especially when I came home for work with no dinner planned. Also my DH had brought chocolate chip cookies and they were sitting on the counter. I have so far not touched one and I ate an okay dinner. I need to do better on my meal plans.....so hard.

Day #2. It has gone okay, althought i feel my sweet cravings kicking in right now...trying to ignore it..lol. Like you HSFLYMOM the whoe30 was to restrictive for me too. Since I am totally new to all this I decided just to try to eat the best I could. I am cuting out grains and dairy. Eating meat and veggies and maybe a few pieces of fruit. I don't feel hungry, but I do feel tired. Still trying to figure out meal plans too.

Starting today here! The Christmas junk is finally all gone, and my mind is ready. I've been planning today as my start day since just after Christmas. I looked at the Whole30 challenge, but it is just too restrictive for me right now. For 30 days I just want to focus on eliminating the grains and eating more meat and vegetables! Only dairy will be butter and cream in my coffee. Weaning myself down on the diet coke, but can't do that AND endure carb flu! I also am eating some sweet potato daily to help with the carb flu symptoms.

In addition I am doing the c25k plan. Got w1d1 in!

Tomorrow will be day 1 for me. I am totally new to the Paleo diet. I think going 30 days and seeing how you feel is a great idea. I went to store today and bought everything I need for the week. Checking in daily will be helpful to see how my journey is going. Hearing everyone else's journey will be great motivation.

Hi! and welcome if you are new to the 30 day challenge! I am on day 22 but have had the flu since Sunday so I am not eating much. When I do eat it has been scrambled eggs and hot tea. Hope you all are staying well! Best wishes, I know you can do it!

I don't track how much. I'm just eating Paleo right now. The gym is starting a Whole 30 on the 10th and I'm going to be a part of it.

Day 8
I'm down 5 lbs. I know most is water or excess weight from the carbs, but I haven't been this weight in a long time and I'm very happy. It's motivating.

Day 2 for me. I did finish up what was left of some red wine I had last night... but that will be the last of that for the rest of this month.I'm cutting out the diet coke as well, which I have never done.I'm going to have some tea at work for when I feel like I need something to drink. Also will be starting working out next week hopefully as I have been really sick this week.

How many people on here track their food? I think I'm going to go with robb wolf's unweighed, unmeasured approach and see how I do.

Looking forward to this new year and new month!

Day 2 for me. Letting go of the bread and the diet coke is going to be hard. Diet Coke more so. I am also taking the adjustment slowly. I'll add in exercising next week, but for this week, I'm concentrating on meal planning, positive activities when the cravings hit, and setting up my long-term goals. Next week- I'll start the Couch to 5k program. I need to lose about 70 pounds just to get to the high end of normal for my height. Plus - I turn 40 in a year, and I will be darned if I still look like this in a year. Looking forward to the paleo life!

started today. I have been fighting flu/cold/allergies and I can't wait to feel better. And THIS time, I promise myself, I will add foods back slowly and search for allergy triggers.

Also, no bacon this go round unless i can find that plain, non sugar cured kind.

Day 5. The temptations are making me a bit crazy I've been eating pistachios. 😊
Other than that I'm doing really well. I did 100 pull ups in the last workout and my arms are killing me!

I definitely cheated on Christmas. Today was wonderful I made a cabbage and beef stew. Whole 30 recipe. I'm more than willing to restart! I thought I'd have enough stew to last the week, but the boys loved it!!! Awesome!!! So, I'll have stew for another day, but I bought a few things for other recipes. :)

QUESTION: Considering the following confession, do you think I should start the challenge over again with day one?

Hey awesome team! Well, yesterday I lost my focus in the afternoon and ended up eating a great deal of foods that I was determined not too! I had a great plan in place and....oh well, I can't explain it - it just happened!
It was a wonderful though, otherwise :-)
How are you all doing? I am back, full on paleo today!!!!! woohoo

Hi Jazz, Coconut, Luv and all to come! FYI to others, we are all on our own journeys here, you can join us anytime! This is a wonderful spot to check in and give/get support and encouragement :-) This is a GREAT team -thank you JAZZ and CEDAR emoticon

That being said - day 12 here! Scale was up a tad - perhaps just a blip. I was on my feet all day shopping, cooking etc yesterday. My legs are actually sore as if I exercised! Funny! So may be water in my joints - who knows.
ANywho...all is going well, loving the food and looking forward to a big roasted turkey tomorrow.
Best wishes to all....happy holidays!

WooHoo that's awesome!

It's Day 14 for me and still going strong. The scale is reading a number I haven't seen in YEARS and I wore a pair of jeans yesterday that are a size smaller! Yay!

We have the family at my house on Christmas Eve and we have it catered with Italian food. I am making paleo chicken and salad so I know there will be food I can eat but I am also planning on a few cheat bites & a glass or two of wine without beating myself up. I will try to snap pics for my blog but with so many people around it might be weird or I might just forget.

Anyway...keep up the great work everyone!!

Awesome day! Stuck witht he diet and we had fun skiing. I forgot the food we made to take for lunch so I bought food for the boys. I stuck with my jerky. :) I was starving by the time we got home. Grilled ribs on the BBQ and had carrots. Awesome!

Day 9 -hey great team! Thanks Jazz you are so right. My jeans are feeling a looser - love that. Luv, enjoy your trip and break from work! Sounds like you are well prepared. Like I mentioned on my blog, the weight isn't flying off, but that is ok. I am really sticking with it and am finding it enjoyable.

Christmas break has started. I'm counting this as day one for me. We are headed up skiing and I've got my jerky packed. Eggs for breakfast. I love eggs in the morning. I mixed the last of the peaches in with them.

I'm excited now. It's much easier for me when I'm not surrounded by junk. I'm hoping this will be a good start that I can continue when I return to work!

Hey all.... I kinda had a bad week... not going to dwell on it, moving on from here. I hope everyone is doing good. emoticon emoticon

JOGBIKEWALK: ... weight scale is not the whole story, don't forget to take your measurements and keep track of those as well. Weight fluctuates daily, especially for women, so don't get obsessed with weighing yourself so often. How are your clothes fitting?

Sorry about the flu monster hitting your house Luv! Hang in there :-) Day 8 - is gonna be great! LOL (we hope). The weather here has taken a scary turn (pouring rain now, ice and snow later - winter storm warning).
Lots of hot tea is in order to be sure!

Morning all! Up a pound today - but I refuse to get too worked up. The only thing I did differently yesterday was exercise. Could there be a connection? We will see. I am doing well otherwise and am really beginning to explore some of the paleo cook books. Wishing you all a wonderful day full of delish paleo food and lots of happiness.

Today is Day 8 for me and I'm feeling great! I did my prep work for the week yesterday...it really makes things easier. I took pics but have to find time to post a blog.

As for dairy, I was rarely eating dairy before I started Paleo. I have been using almond or coconut milk and butter for a couple years. I was adding cheese to my omelets but would like to cut it out for at least the 30 days. It's not that difficult for me because as much as I love cheese, it doesn't love me back lol. I do use a splash of organic half & half in my morning coffee. I like plain greek yogurt with berries but haven't had any in a while.

Have a great day!!

Happy Monday! How's everyone today? I am looking forward to today - and continuing to make good choices. I have not been eating butter or cheese or any dairy at all. Do you all eat any dairy? I have read conflicting reports on paleo and dairy.
The scale did not go down or up today - but that is ok! We will hope for a loss tomorrow.
Best wishes to all! Keep up the great work!
I can hardly believe I am on day 5 already!

Good day. I'd say its really day 2 for me as the work week didn't go well. I'm off to the market to get some veggies to snack on at work. I'm going to keep telling myself I only have to have resolve for 4 days. Then we are on winter break and it's soooo much easier at home! :)

I use canned(pure) coconut milk and cream for cooking, smoothies, etc. It is acceptable... this is what Robb Wolf says about using canned coconut milk:

"anned coconut milk is a good go-to when you’re looking for a quick coconut milk product. Of course, if you have the time and energy – go wild with a fresh coconut or shredded coconut to make your own" robbwolf.com/2011/08/24/coco-what/

Good day today! The weekends are so much easier for me.
I've always heard that the canned coconut is the best. I like to add vanilla to mine I'm not sure why the refrigerated is not as good as the canned.

Jazz, Luv, Coconut, Go, Britt, Maggie and all to join us, hello and happy Saturday! How's everyone doing today? I am looking forward to making Paleo food choices today, and to getting some holiday things done.
I am still enjoying coconut milk in my coffee - so surprising! Does anyone know, should we always use the pure canned type of coconut milk, or are the larger containers of unsweetened coconut milk just as good (the kind found refrigerated in the milk section)?
Best wishes for today to you all....keep up the great work....you are worth it!

Good to hear Coconut and Luv! I had another good day, food wise. I like this Paleo concept and am finding it pretty easy to make choices. When in doubt, there sure are a lot of resources on the internet.
I am feeling a little flu-ish tonight. I am a teacher and stomach flu is rampant. So I don't know if it is diet induced or a genuine bug. Only time will tell I guess.
I wish you all well - and want to stress how much the support of this group is getting me going!
Good luck to all

Peaches & eggs - never would have thought of that but may have to give it a try! Glad to hear you're doing good.

I haven't posted much because it's been a crazy busy week but I'm staying on track and plan to do some batch cooking/prep work for the week ahead on Sunday.

For me the hard part is at work. We have a lot of change going on right now. Everyone is stressed and bringing in sweets. I too caved yesterday. Today I have snacks to get me through. Cucumbers. I'm hoping to grab those when they break out the junk. :) I've packed my lunch and snacks! Today I'm determined. I've got to maintain the healthy eating habit at work as well. After work my willpower seems to be stronger. I don't tend to have any of my trigger foods here though. The boys have some junk, but I don't let them buy foods that are triggers for me.

I am putting all the holiday treats away so they aren't so tempting. When I get tired, and am home after work - I am so weak, I just grab those chcoolates! OMG! I will stay on course today...
Thank you everyone - and best wishes!!!! You are TRULY motivating!!!!

ps...I am going to the grocery store today which will help :-)

emoticon Today, despite holiday treats at work, I stayed on track. Dinner went well.
Walked to and from work for a total of 2 hours and 20 minutes of exercise.

... tomorrow we get another chance to get it right! emoticon

LUV-2-RUN... great idea to journal.. I keep track myself but have to start using the SP nutritional tracker. Helps me to stay honest because I am really not good at eyeballing portions. Good luck! emoticon

I didn't check this morning and now I wish I had. Today didn't go well for me. I will start again tomorrow. I have to figure out a different way to deal with stress! I think I'm going to bring my stress ball from home and put it on my desk. I'm also going to log all my food. I do better if I have a journal. And won't eat it if I know I have to write it down! emoticon

Ok. Then I will try to post every day with you, hopefully others will join in.

Good luck... so far so good!!!! emoticon

... How are you feeling about it so far?

PS:... also remember that you "will not" be perfect "all" of the time. Use these 30 days as a way to get to know this lifestyle. Each time you deviate from the plan, note "why" and "what" lead up to it and then prepare an action plan for those unexpected events. Tap into how you are feeling emotionally and if you crave those forbidden foods at certain times and how to best deal with those cravings by substituting it with a paleo/primal snack/meal.

I have found that being prepared is key. Having my foods prepared whether I am at home or at work helps me stay on track and less likely to stray. I don't have a problem bringing my own food to a party or meeting, etc. When asked, I just say that I have food allergies and that I am on a special diet, that way it's not personal.

Hello to all!!! Well, yesterday was an EPIC FAIL! I went to a holiday luncheon and there wasn't much being served that was paleo. I caved in and eat WHATEVER and even candy etc. Sooooooo...today is my going to be my first day fully on and focused.
I sure understand about losing will power - but today I am determined! Good luck to all. I am thankful for this forum to help keep me on track. I would love others to join this new journey :-) Best wishes to all....

I did 5 days, then lost my will power. I just saw this post and I'm trying to get back to strict Paleo. A 5 day streak was awesome for me. I'd like to go longer. I can join and check in here if that's what you decide to do?

Best of luck to you!! It really is easy once you realize how much junk is in all the other stuff emoticon For me, it was more getting back to the way we were raised, that was almost Stone Age emoticon Meat usually raised or hunted, simple sides of lots of fresh veggie choices. Something for everyone. We might not have liked it all but there was always something even picky kids would eat :)

Anyways............. you can do this!! emoticon

This is your journey. Take the wheel and drive!

I am brand new to this forum - but not new to low carb. I have been reading that you should do this Paleo way of eating for 30 days in order to see a change in your body. So here goes. I will blog on my spark page each day about that days food and challenges. I am trying to keep myself accountable through the holidays :-) What do you think? Here we go....woohoo!
