I'm "lifting heavy things" for a few days building a new pen for my buck goats. I'm working by myself, and the corral panels are 8 feet long and 6 feet tall. Heavy suckers.

Yeah airport and mall food is tough. What I have done is gotten a burger without a bun with lettuce, tomato, onion, etc.and a side salad. Or if you are lucky there will be somewhere with awesome entre salads or stir frys. I have to be especially careful for gluten intolerance.

Heh oh I know what you mean about airport food! I'm dreading our stopover in Texas next month. Maybe I can get a burger without a bun?

My trip to Texas went well. Lots of salads, some shrimp, homemade antelope sausage! WOO HOO!
Airports, however, do not have paleo food. I was reduced to fruit cups from Starbucks, but that's ok.
I did get to walk most days, and now that I'm back in the Ozarks, I'm walking and adding sprints to the walk.
Life is good.

Well the things I'm focused on with eating primarily are cutting out processed food, grains (but as I said, I will eat corn if it has been prepared properly by hand.... which basically means that as of October 7th when I head back to Canada, I won't be eating corn LOL) and the only oils I'll use are organic extra virgin - olive, coconut, avocado - plus locally obtained pastured animal fats like butter, lard and tallow. I am tracking everything I eat and have macronutrient goals that reflect primal ratios ideal for my body (50-60% cals from fat, 30-40% protein, 10-20% carbs).... and I make movement my priority. I am focused on doing SOMETHING every day:
- sun salutations every morning, moon salutations every night, even on "rest" days - sprints once a week (currently running... when I get back to Canada, swimming) - mark's five essential movements twice a week - kundalini yoga once per week - hiking once per week - two other days of rest or play ("rest" exercise would be something easy on the body like Tai Chi or gentle yoga; play could be going for a walk with the dogs, walking to/around/from the market - they're really big here, doing a new exercise video or playing the Wii, or any other vigorous recreational activities!)
Edit to Say:
I'm mostly measuring my performance by how I feel on a day to day basis and how I perform when I'm moving, in particular with the Five Essential Movements. I don't have access to a scale here, but I'm hoping for some interesting results when I get home - I'll have been six months without a scale when I get back next month, but only about 6-8 weeks into primal, so we'll see where the number ends up!

OK well what are you trying to work on for the month? Maybe put out a challenge for people that might be shooting for the same thing...like cutting out all sugars, or something specific. Just a thought.

I strolled some laps at the airport in Little Rock. LOL
Half a banana and some nuts for breakfast.
Lunch was catfish and veggies
Supper is fruit salad.

I didn't take offense.... I'm here mostly because the Primal group on Spark doesn't have any challenges and I wanted to see what was up. If the Challenge here involves following the Whole30 exactly then I'll simply keep on keeping on with my own rules :)

I'm still learning, so I don't know what other folks think 100% is. For the "challenge", I'm just going to be more focused at every meal, post frequently, and hope you guys support me while I support you!
Five days on the road coming up, so that will be interesting! More eating out, family interactions, etc.
Today was good. Two mile walk, ate right all day, going to bed early!

I was not trying to be offensive, if I was I apologize. I was just saying that I thought the point of these challenges was to follow Whole 30 exactly. That is what has been done up to this point. I thought that was the point.
For me, I will not go 100% without sweetners ( I find I need honey or coconut sap for recipes), I still drink wine and don't want to give that up, and still eat at least SOME gluten free starch. I love potatoes. I need a higher level of carbs when I am running, and I am calling this running season now for me. It has at least for now cooled down and I am planning at least 3 races in the next 2 months. I am not going to worry about what I eat. Bottom line for me: No grain, no cow dairy, no beans unless they are soaked and don't upset my stomach.
I have not joined a challenge yet as I thought the point was 100%.

If you think it's inappropriate that I participate in whatever this challenge shapes up to be because my rules are not as strict as the Whole30, by all means let me know. I like Mark's take on things over at the Daily Apple with the 80/20 rules (even he puts sugar in his coffee!), but that's just what keeps me sane.
What do YOU mean when you say you aren't going "that restrictive", Cindy? I'd love to know what everyone else takes as their rules...

Don't think this challenge has *strict* rules. Paleo doesn't have strict rules. I think we should do the best we can with "were we are" on the continuum. Just my dos pesos.

Isn't the point of a challenge to stick to it 100%?

Here is the latest version of the Whole30 v4.0 - I'm not going quite this restrictive either, but here we go!
These are my take on the Whole30 for myself in September:
1. No added sugar (I make an exception for raw organic cane molasses in 1 cup of coffee per day, though I only drink it on and off again, so it won't actually be every day).
2. No processed foods.
3. No alcohol? (Can't give it up. I love it too much.... but I typically have only one beer in the evening or one glass of wine with dinner.)
4. No grains (I make the occasional exception, once a week or so, for fermented or otherwise properly soaked corn in home-made tortillas or tamales).
5. No legumes (I also make the occasional exception on this one, for tamari or sprouted lentils).
6. No dairy? (I thrive on fresh raw milk cheese and fermented cream, but I don't drink any pasteurized dairy products).
7. No white potatoes.
I get all my meat from organic, grass-fed sources (the norm around here actually) and all my fruit and veg is organic as well (also the norm). I eat lots of root veggies when I need carbs.
I am also trying to stay under 20% of my calories from carbs, which is going to be the big challenge for me, because I love fruits and carb-heavy veg.
I also don't have access to a scale here, so I'm tracking my progress through measurements, performance in strength and sprints, and overall feelings of health! I will definitely keep everyone updated.

I've only been doing this about three weeks, but I've learned that reading some of the posts on Paleo/Primal boards that have super-athletes can give you the wrong idea. You still have to think about portion size and not snacking all day. If you aren't training for marathons, don't eat five eggs for breakfast. Also, not eating late in the evening is a good idea.
I'm reading Perfect Health Diet. Just started, and it's a huge amount of info and data, but it has a really good explanation of how and why this eating system works.

I have no clue how the 30 Day Challenge works, either! HOWEVER, I'm willing to post just about every day on how I'm doing.
Yesterday, I followed the Paleo food guidelines pretty well, but it was Friday, and I have a bit of wine or beer *one* day a week, and I chose yesterday after eating supper and getting the goats milked.
Today is GREAT! Fruit in mid morning. Salad for lunch.
The plan for supper is baked chicken and some veggies, but I don't know which ones yet.

Yes thank you I would.. I've been eating off the foods list for the last 3 days .. its going well and haven't had any huge cravings... so far so good!! I think my trip is keeping me really motivated. I don't wanna go thru the horror of asking for a seat belt extender on the flight so hopefully I will stay on plan till November 21st.

GRODRIGUE -- I am doing the Whole30 for the month of September (just started today actually) and am eating Paleo to see how it affects my body. I haven't done it before but I have heard good things about it. Want to do it with me? Just let me know!
