This combining note is so helpful in knowing what not to eat together. Are there simple tips for what you can eat together?

It took a whole LOT to not start going completely crazy and start shoving garlic naan down my throat. I just don't feel like I can cheat just yet... emoticon

Survived the weekend. Went to an Indian restaurant. Had the lamb, had some chicken tikka, ate a LOT of salad, no naan, no rice, no beans, a little veggie korma; and a strawberry lassi (It was WORTH it, and I specified real strawberries, rose water, plain yogurt, pistachio dust on top). emoticon

I'd say I got back on track this week. Yesterday I did have dinner at a Mexican restaurant and enjoyed the chips and salsa and rice, and today hubby and I got dinner at a snazzy grilled-cheese sandwich place, but other than those two meals, I was on track.

This week, keep on trucking, and make healthier choices for my cheat meals (although my tuna melt was not a bad choice compared to some of the other options!)

Also, don't weigh myself, just worry about how I'm feeling and keep tracking for macros.

Well, it wasn't perfect, but it was vacation. Mostly I munched on fruit during the day so I had room at dinner. On Sunday my dad and I ordered fish with mixed veggies and cucumber salad, and we split each of our fish and shared! Monday was a heavier dinner, but then Tuesday I just had a chilled shellfish appetizer, and Wednesday I had bronzed fish on a salad. Then Thursday was Cheeburger Cheeburger day, which I had as a salad (but ate a small amount of fries and a huge milkshake -- good thing dinner was my only meal that day!), then Friday was seafood taco day. Saturday killed me -- eggs benedict with crabcakes as the meat for breakfast with a side of sauteed gator, and dinner with hubby was all fried seafood (calamari and shrimp). Then Sunday we had another big breakfast, mine being a seafood omelet (and I ate the potatoes), and dinner was grilled roast beef with salad, carrots, and green beans at Cracker Barrel. But then this morning, I was starving, so I had a breakfast buffet with eggs, bacon, and sausages, and then I topped it off with some small pancakes, french toast, and a biscuit with sausage gravy. My stomach is so sour!

This week's goal, get back on track. Namely, fruits for breakfast for the carbs and lean proteins for lunch and dinner. And get into my workout routine.

Cheated on Saturday. Had Breyer's Dark Velvet ice cream (half fat) with blueberries. I used to like blueberries and dark chocolate. I didn't feel bad, but not great either. Back on the grind. I actually have no desire to do that again, but I am keeping the blueberries. I like making raw kale salad, but giving up the raisins I put in will be tough, but I can do it. Otherwise, been 100%. I even gave up salad dressing. I use homemade salsa. emoticon

I TOTALLY forgot about this thread -- thanks for updating it Nikki!

Hmmm, food combining. I guess I'm coming back to that one. I am eating leaner meats and more produce in keeping with some recommendations from REEKU on my metabolic type. But I've been eating fruit as part of every meal. Maybe I'll try eating protein at every major meal, but waiting a bit before I eat my piece of fruit. Hmmm...

As for my commitment this week, my family and I are going on vacation. I was very good about my diet this week except for today, but I had kept my calories very low in preparation for vacation and I think my body finally went, forget this! Not too worried, since other than too much chocolate mid-day, I managed to keep all my snacking Paleo.

The goal this week is to simply not gorge on all the junk food my parents are bringing with them. They brought WAY too much last year, so this year they're bringing less, which in my opinion is still WAY too much! But I have good dark soy-free chocolate with blueberries and almonds, and with raisins and raspberries, and my goal is to be strong with my mom, who is pre-diabetic and both knows and appreciates that, for the few months I'm living with them, I am trying to help her out.

She likes my Paleo dinners and thinks I'm a good cook!

Oh, my other commitment is to not be afraid to order just the seafood appetizer if that's what I want for dinner! Eat more fish! Heck, we'll be in FLORIDA!

Hi all. I have some updates.

1. I kicked soda.
2. I stuck to the plan so far.
3. Kept drinking water. I don't even really want juice.
4. I stayed away from grains, breads, cereals, etc.
5. Add more beans to my diet so I don't binge on meat. (I don't do red meat or pork, so eating beans is a necessity for me).
7. Keeping with sustainable fish, and free range chicken.
8. Learning to keep fruit and protein seperate. So, no more hard boiled egg and banana for breakfast.

Yikes, blew it this weekend -- again! I'm great during the weeks, but the weekends are killer! So my goal this week is simply to eat healthy through the weekend. So here are a few of my "battle the munchies" ideas:

Drink water! Or tea!
Chew gum (not Paleo or primal, but not junk food, either)
Brush my teeth.
Go for a walk.
If I really have to, I'll put up motivational posters.

A quick aside: I saw Avatar yesterday with hubby. The storyline was cliche, but enjoyable. I did have a Paleo-love moment that made me want to eat good foods and go running through the forests and climb trees. I will try to be inspired by that.

We had two snow days here in north Texas, so everything I planned and committed to didn't happen. I actually enjoyed three full days of doing nothing productive and eating junk food, but now I'm back on track. And Sunday hubby and I printed out a guest pass to the LA Fitness that he's a member of and played racquetball, went swimming, and sat in the hot tub.

I'm going back to what works. P90X is too much of a time committment right now. So instead, short, intense workouts are going to be my method again, and working out in the mornings. If I don't go in the morning, apparently I don't go.

So here we go:
Lift weights 4 times a week (only a 20 min. workout)
Jump rope twice
Lower calories this week

This I can do!

Woo-hoo, I'm feeling better! I am also realizing that right now, P90X isn't working for me. It just takes up too much time, and given that I seem to only do it twice a week, I think I can get better benefits elsewhere. So for the remainder of the week, here are my goals:

2 jump ropes
1 crazy 8 bodyweight circuit
Keep eating healthy!

I had a hard time last week because my body was definitely craving rest over exercise. I'm going to try and get back into it slowly. So, after some damage from Super Bowl Sunday, here's my set of goals:

Don't weigh myself (again)
2 P90X yoga days and 2 jump rope days
Stick to the diet!

Time for a new weekly challenge for myself.

I'm taking it back a step this week. I really want to stay positive. I also read something this week that rest / sleep should come before working out. I think that's probably right. So to stay healthy for me needs to be, in this order, diet, rest, and then exercise. Taking that to heart here are my goals this week

1) Keep carbs below 75 g daily
2) Sleep 8 hours a night
3) Meditate before bed each night

Here we go!

sure. I only eat fruit on an empty stomach. I wait an hour after eating fruit before eating other foods.

mixing veggies with meat is ok

mixing veggies with grain (for those who eat it) is ok

Do not mix grain with meat

The idea is you need different type of digestion for different foods and mixing improperly can impede digestion and cause fermentation causing gas, and slow processing of food.

Here are the basic guidelines:

The Nine Basic Rules of Proper Food Combining:

1. Eat acids and starches at separate meals. Acids neutralize the alkaline medium required for starch digestion and the result is fermentation and indigestion.

2. Eat protein foods and carbohydrate foods at separate meals. Protein foods require an acid medium for digestion.

3. Eat but one kind of protein food at a meal.

4. Eat proteins and acid foods at separate meals. The acids of acid foods inhibit the secretion of the digestive acids required for protein digestion. Undigested protein putrefies in bacterial decomposition and produces some potent poisons.

5. Eat fats and proteins at separate meals. Some foods, especially nuts, are over 50% fat and require hours for digestion.

6. Eat sugars (fruits) and proteins at separate meals.

7. Eat sugars (fruits) and starchy foods at separate meals. Fruits undergo no digestion in the stomach and are held up if eaten with foods that require digestion in the stomach.

8. Eat melons alone. They combine with almost no other food.

9. Desert the desserts. Eaten on top of meals they lie heavy on the stomach, requiring no digestion there, and ferment. Bacteria turn them into alcohols and vinegars and acetic acids.

I personally don't worry about mixing proteins part. That doesn't bother me.

Alright it's a new week!

So I'm having trouble mustering up the willpower to exercise on Saturday and Sunday. So I ended up only doing 1 P90X video and a jump rope routine. Sad. But I stuck to my diet well, subbing coconut creamer for my dairy creamer and cooking my eggs in coconut oil instead of butter. Today I made coconut-fried shrimp. They're pretty tasty!

This week:
2 jump ropes and 3 P90X videos
Stick to the diet
Don't weigh myself!

Mostly a good week. Primal except for 2 meals and one day where I ate too many homemade chocolates. But the Thai food (with only a small portion of sticky rice) and the meal I ate today were delicious and worth the treat.

P90X legs and back, chest and shoulders, and only half the yoga video -- it kicked my butt!

Bike ride with hubby on Monday, jogging and sprinting today.

Next week: Monday is still a carb day, then back on track to low-carb Paleo.

P90X legs and back, yoga, and one other

2 cardio days, including a jump rope or a sprint.

So basically, the same as last week. So I'll add a new dimension: include more coconut!

Jan. 23-31:

1. 10,000+ steps every day.
2. Lose one pound.
3. Get started on making Christmas stockings for gifts.

Last week I walked 10,000 steps X 6, did elliptical X 2 (shoveled a lot of snow on day #3) and finished reading two books.

Vanisle, I hear you on the chocolate almonds. I made some chocolate almonds this week to have a healthy way to deal with stress-eating, and I ate way too many today! I actually told my husband to eat the last two so I won't eat any more. They're just too tempting!

My progress so far: I did two 20-minute sessions of yoga today; one this morning and one this evening. Wow--I am so stiff. Definitely need to do it more often.

I had a cookie today, so that's my one for the week. My organic produce and meat order arrived. I took part of my lunch today, and will take all of it tomorrow, and should be able to the rest of the week as well.

Ok--As some of you know, my weakness is cookies. I know they are not Paleo. I fell off the wagon with them last week, so this week my goal is to get back on. My goal is, if I have any, to only have one this week.

My other goals are to do yoga--three times this week, and to take my lunch three days this week. My right leg is so tight in my upper thigh muscle and lower right (front) calf muscle that they hurt now on a daily/regular basis. I've got to get back to doing yoga.

My meat order will be delivered tomorrow and organic produce will be delivered on Monday. So I'll be stocked up, which means less chance of eating non-Paleo foods.

My husband and I had a night our on the town last night, so I waited to post my goals until the morning. I have two big goals I want to hit.

1) No sugar. No wheat. No white evil.
2) Get back into Cross fit. I'd like to do 2 workouts this week.

Let's go!

Here's my commitment:

2 cardio days and 3 P90X days, including the legs and back video, yoga video, and one of the others of my choosing.

Paleo meals -- my only "cheats" consist of some cream in my coffee and maybe butter (not in my coffee, of course!).

Only one cup of coffee a day, MAX!

It is one month away from Valentine's Day. Whether or not you already think you have a valentine, this year you do! It's you! This month let's love ourselves like no one else can.

In keeping with our commitment theme, which seems somewhat appropriate for valentine's day, join us in this challenge. Make a weekly commitment (or more) to yourself here. Then come back each week to update us and tell us what you are taking on next. This may be the time to form a new habit.

To join the challenge, sign up with your first week commitment in a reply to this post by Sunday 1/17/10. Check in will be due each Sunday there after.

Go get 'em Paleo cupids.
