That's a great success story! Yes, it is harder to shed the pounds as you get older, gravity does some not so nice things as well:), so keeping trim and fit along the way is really essential. Keep it up...MJ emoticon

I like this particular thread, but I loooooooove reading success stories. Mine's not much of a success story, but here it is anyway.

Basically, I've been thin all my life and, after watching my mom struggle with her weight and self-esteem (she's only slightly overweight, but she used to be thin like me), I decided that I would rather prevent weight gain than try to lose weight 10 or 20 years down the road. Over the course of my undergrad and masters degrees, I slowly put on 10 pounds that I could pretty much put on or take off as I chose. The problem was that taking it off was getting harder and harder every time.

I've experimented off and on with a bunch of diets that didn't sound too gimicky -- I did the vegan thing, the USDA food pyramid thing, and those pre-determined diets from fitness magazines. Then I stumbled on primal completely by accident and gave it a shot. When I tried it, I was down to my "happy weight" and was just doing an experiment to see if I could lose some body fat for the summer, look more toned, etc. What happened was that in two weeks after switching to primal, even though I was still eating the same number of calories, I lost 7 lbs. I actually didn't know my weight could get lower, but it has, and even though I've increased my calories and decreased the amount of exercise I put in during a week, I've been very stable at my new weight. Even if I binge, I rebound quickly, and I feel better than ever.

So yeah, this is not an "I lost 80lbs. and found myself" kind of success story, but I think the fact that I beat the standard american diet is success enough for me!

Down another pound this morning. Cheated yesterday with a baby ice cream, this time I didn't do heavy gardening so didn't experience the "blood sugar low". Can't say I really enjoyed it but it seemed like a thing to do as friends were buying:)...MJ

hello,
I just joined this forum and I also want to share my results with you:)
i have tried the paleo diet for three consecutive weeks few months ago. in the beginning it was hard, having to give up everything i usually eat or use for cooking. i made no compromise and ate only foods allowed, especially nuts(almonds and hazelnuts). for me the easiest was to give up on dairy, cause i never liked it much. first week i craved for almost anything i couldn't eat..second week was the best, i felt like i could go this way a lot of time. third week i already felt more energy in my body, i felt more focused.
the reason i gave up gradually was my lack of time and imagination for making new meals for myself..after 3 weeks i didn't want to taste chicken and fish and eggs etc. any more..and other raw foods/vegetables and fruits were not enough calories for me.

results:
i lost 5 kg(i think that is around 10 pounds), by eating until i was satiated .
i felt great! especially starting with second week, and even after stopping the diet.
the most important benefit for me was this: after the diet, my body reacted to processed food, so i felt when i was not eating healthy. which is great:) i can say it really thought me right from wrong when it comes to food choices.

i hopefully will stick to the diet every once in a while. still, i find it hard to make this a lifestyle.
wish you all the best:)
