Okay, so these are the two smoothies I drink everyday, along side something solid. I eat every meal with something liquid and something solid. Both are made in the vitamix, which by the way, is running amazingly, even standing tough through my parent's drinking party, where they made at least 10 or so drinks in one night, two nights in a row.
This first smoothie is great for mornings, it packs a bit of a carb punch, but if you even it out with a side of eggs, it's the best breakfast to wake up for! The taste of this smoothie kind of reminds me of Green Apple Jolly Ranchers. (Adapted from the Vitamix Basic Green Smoothie) It's easier for me to make this all year long, because where I live, it generally stays about...70 to 110 degrees, but you can change it up for what is in season.
Makes 4 moderate meals or 2 huge meals
2 cups water
1 cup banana (1 medium banana)
1 cup orange (half of a large orange)
1 cup green grapes
1 cup fresh (not canned) pineapple (they sell it cheap here)
4 cups greens of choice (spinach is always cheap here and gives a nice bite)
Then you just toss it in the blender and whiz it till its at the consistency you want.
(For vitamix users, add the ingredients as listed, set the variable speed to 1, secure the lid, then turn it on, quickly turn it up to 10, then flip it to high and let it run for about 30 to 45 seconds. If you don't drink it quick enough, the main liquid will settle and a thick layer of foam will sit on top)
Berry Protein Chocolate Smoothie
This one has a moderate fat amount. I haven't figured out what solid food goes best with this, though. Has a much lower carb amount then the earlier one, but still has a banana, so the carbs are elevated. This is a creation of my own and still very much in experimental stage, but it packs a good punch in the fat and protein section and tastes amazing.
Makes a large meal for one person, or a moderate meal for two.
1 to 2 cups coconut milk (full fat canned or from a milk carton, I would add 2 tbsp coconut oil either way)
Plain Greek Yogurt (I use Fage. It has a richer flavor then Oikos)
1 scoop protein powder (I use Progressive 100% organic whey protein, chocolate, has 23 grams of protein and no carbs)
1 cup Blueberries (frozen, Not sweetened)
1 medium banana
1 square dark chocolate (I use 85 to 90% dark chocolate)
1 teaspoon vanilla (optional)
Same directions as above. If you're not using a Vitamix, or something of equal power, I would set the chocolate out in a warm place to get soft before blending it.
