I'll have to try those; I've only had the regular ones so far

Hospitals are terrific for traumatic care; for acute care. They do a really, really good job in saving lives when it’s a sudden bleeding emergency. But in terms of chronic care, they’re terrible; (that is) in terms of the illnesses that most people have, endure, that cost the most money, that last the longest and ultimately die from. -Dr. Andrew Saul

I tried one. They seem very similar to beef jerky, only in a bar. Very tasty! I like that they are small enough to stuff anywhere. :)

I have to check out the Tanka bars too! I do make my own Larabars from scratch. Easy really...dates, nuts and fruit and process it in the food processor. I want to get a dehydrator and make my own jerky too...

Yum! And I can eat 3 Tanka bars and still eat less cals and get more protein than a protein bar. Carbs from fruit. Not filler like brown rice et al

I REALLY like Tanka Bars. They are like soft beef jerky with a bit of cranberry in them. Cranberry has been one of the go-with-meat flavors for centuries!

Any other of those so-called "protein bars" can't hold a candle to them--this is real protein!

what?! buffalo and cranberry? what an odd sounding combination. but on the other hand, i am all about convenience... i wind up needing emergency food at least 1 - 2 times a week. i think i'll have to try it - but y'all promise it's tasty? you're not just starving to death? emoticon

i'm kidding, i know you're not... but there have been times in the past people have tried to turn me on to foods that were 'so good' and i think they might have just been so grateful for food of any kind... anyone out there ever heard of 'just 2 points' bars? talk about getting you into snacking - pretty soon you wind up unconscious on the couch with a pile of j2p wrappers on the floor... emoticon

OH! ANi! I got my Tanka bars the other day. They are MARVELOUS! I am going away this weekend. This will be one of my "purse" snacks for sure. Thanks for turning me onto them!!!

Larabars are good too. Who came up with the "candy cigarette" thing anyhow. I'm not sure what's wrong with "candy cigarettes" lol emoticon

I'm new to the team and to Paleo eating so I don't know all the rules or the tone of this team so take my words with a grain of salt (sea salt, of course)!!!

I think I read that cashews were not Paleo...please correct me if I'm wrong.

I have tired to stay away from bars for two reasons...

First, they are too much like candy bars for me and so they tend to cause me to start snacking.

Secondly, even "unprocessed" bars have a self life that is pretty long...if you have to do bars, I would suggest finding a good recipe and make them yourself!!! I would make a bunch of them and keep them in the freezer!!!

For a carry-in-your-purse emergency bite you can hardly beat a Lara Bar. But for me I wouldn't substitute it for fresh nuts and fruits. You are spending a lot of money on a little nutrition but in a pinch a Lara Bar is a great choice.

Ever heard of Tanka Bars? I keep one (or two) in my purse at all times. Very low calories, very high nutrition.

Lara Bars?

I know, candy cigarette, we hate convenience, hardcore, etc...

But in reality, I'm looking at the ingredients on these things and with the exception of peanuts on a few varieties, I'm seeing all paleo ingredients, such as:
* walnuts
* dates
* unsweetened apples
* unsweetened cherries
* almonds
* cashews
* coconut
* coconut oil

Claims to be raw, unprocessed, gluten free, dairy free, unprocessed...

Has this topic been broached? Where do we stand?
