William Cowper, an English poet, wrote “Variety’s the very spice of live, That give it all its flavor.”

I tend to be a creature of habit. I do the same things week after week. I have my set meals that I cook on rotation week after week. Countless SP articles have told me that it’s good to change things up from time to time, but, let's face it, habits are hard to break.

This week’s challenge is ALL about variety. The challenge will be broken up into 4 Parts – Nutrition, Fitness, Water, and Wellness. And here we go…..

Part the First: Eat a Rainbow!
I don’t know about y’all but when I eat my fregies (fruit and veggies) I tend to stick to three basic colors – green, red and yellow. Kinda boring, eh? Well this week’s Nutrition challenge is to eat a rainbow of fregies – let's expand our horizons! Here’s how it’s going to work…..

First off…no exotic colors, please. Stick to the basic colors in a pack of crayons (NOT the 64 color box… the basic box). So please do not count fire-engine red and candy apple red as two separate colors. It’s ONE color…..RED! LOL

The Accountability…you gotta tell us what colors you ate and how many (this makes it easier for me at the end of the week)!

The Scoring…. For every day you eat at LEAST 5 colors, score 10 points for that day. For every day you eat at LEAST 3 colors, score 5 points for that day. If you eat 2 colors…score 3 points. If you eat 1 color….score 1 point. If you don’t eat any freggies you will get scurvy (Well, that’s what my mom always used to tell me when I was a kid anyway. LOL) and get no points.

So, Sample tracking for Nutrition would look as follows:
Sunday: Red, Yellow, Green, Blue, Orange = 5 Colors = 10 Pts
Monday: Red, Yellow, Green = 3 colors = 5 Pts

BONUS Points: If you eat at least 5 different colored fregies EVERY day this week (ie Score 70 on the Nutrition Portion) score 30 Bonus Points.



Part the Second: Shake It Up!
I’ve already confessed I’m a creature of habit. I go to the gym and run/walk 3 days a week, bike 5 days a week and do the same ST every week. This week we’re going to change up old habits. Whether it’s trying a new bit of cardio equipment, mixing in some SP videos that you don’t really ever do, or adding some new moves to your ST routine, our challenge is to do one DIFFERENT fitness thing each day!!

The Accountability…you gotta tell us what you did different that day.

The Scoring…For every day you add something new to your workout, score 10 Points. For every day you did the same routine, but did do some fitness, score 3 Points.

Bonus Points: If you change up your routine for 6 of the 7 days (figuring for one rest day), score 30 Bonus Points.



Part the Third: Water, Water, Everywhere!
Hello, my name is SafariBabe and I am a Diet Coke addict. Oh, sure I try to get my 8 glasses of water a day, but I LOVE my Diet Coke! In reading up on water in the SP resources, I was reminded that the 8 glasses is the minimum recommended amount of water. So here’s this week’s challenge. Drink more than 8 glasses of water per day up to ½ your body weight in ounces (this would be 80oz for someone weighing 160lbs). So to nail this part of the challenge, really all you have to do is drink 1 extra glass of water each day.

The Accountability….Tell us how many glasses of water you drank each day.

The Scoring…. If you drink more than 8 glasses a day, score 10 points for that day. If you drank 8 glasses a day, score 3 points for that day.

Bonus Points: If you drink more than 8 glasses every day this week, score 30 points!



Part the Last: Be Good to Each Other!
We all lead busy lives. And we all get caught up in our day to day trials and tribulations. Those of us who have had successes here on SP, know that, in part, we owe it to the support that we have received from our SP friends and the other random people who pass through our SP lives by posting on our blogs or dropping a note on our page. In fact, the whole SP concept is built around the idea of mutual support and camaraderie. So the challenge for this week is to offer your support to THREE people each day. This can be done by posting to their blog, or their page, or sending them a goodie, or whatever else you can think up!

The accountability…Tell us what you did to support someone else’s healthy endeavors.

The scoring…If you support three people, score 10 points for that day. If you support 2 people, score 5 points for that day. If you support 1 person, score 3 points for that day. If you are feeling like a hermit, score 0 points for that day.



Super Special Bonus! Since this is a leap year….if you do at least 25 Jumping Jacks on Wednesday…Score Special Bonus 25 Points!

ONLY ONE (1) TRACKING POST PER PERSON PLEASE!!! Edit your post each day to account for what you did that day!

This challenge runs from Sunday (2/26/2012) to Saturday (3/3/2012). Please have all your scores posted by 3PM Eastern US Time the Sunday following the start of this challenge (3/4/2012)! I will post the winners, as soon as possible thereafter, figuring for computational time.

At the top of your tracking post you will see some basic info, name, starting weight, ending weight, and goal for the week. If you do not want to post your weight, that’s not a problem. The goal for the week can be anything from a weight goal to a fitness goal to a nutrition goal to anything else you may want to accomplish this week. Totally up to you!
