Angie you are so right. Since my Dad passed 2 new grandchildren have been born. Every year we talk about their Papa and they know him through us. It is remember when Dad did this or Dad would have liked that. He is and will always be part of the day, of all my days. I tell him I love him every single day.

Growing up I loved Christmas. It was a time to get together with all of my relatives. Spent half the day at one grandparents house and the other half at the other. The only downer was that it was tiring.

Now....any holiday I get to be with my hubby is my favorite. I was alone on holidays for a long time and now I have someone who loves me for who I am.

LIVE TODAY LIKE THERE IS NO TOMORROW

I think all the holidays are hard for all of us, so many memories of loved ones who are no longer with us....it is really hard, sometimes unbearable, but we have to go on for our own families...it's what our loved ones would want!! I always find myself telling a story about my Mom and Dad on each holiday occasion and what they would have done, or something funny that happened to lighten the mood, so we all have a good laugh, a favorite memory and a smile!! Yes, my eyes well up with tears, but they are now happy tears of happy times and memories that no one can ever take from me!! May God give eternal rest to all of our deceased loved ones and may His perpetual Light always shine upon them.

Joy overflows in my life!

I have inner peace!!

I have the power to change myself!

I have faith in my ability to succeed!

Christmas has always been my favorite. It's hard some years because I lost my Dad on December 20, 1993. I'm really looking forward to it this year since we have thenewhouse.

My favorite is Thanksgiving!! I love doing all the prep work and the cooking for this special feast, but I especially love having everyone around the table, eating, talking, and laughing, plus the wine and other drinks are good too, LOL!! Last year was hard because my daughter who lives at State College and works there full time, could not come home for the holiday...I felt kinda empty without her being there with all of us....but I packed up a giant goodie bag with all the fixins and trimmings and the next day I took a 5 hour bus ride to State College and brought our homemade Thanksgiving to her!! I spent 4 days with her, and had such a good time, that I'll probably be doing the same thing again this year!!

Joy overflows in my life!

I have inner peace!!

Christmas Eve because my brother has his kids. For years Christmas was hard because my Dad died December 28, 1993. Three days after Christmas and three days before my birthday. I am a New Year's Eve baby. That was my Dad's idea too. I was a planned C-section. All my Mom's kids were except her first. It was also my Dad's favorite holiday. He would put on his Santa hat and hand out the presents. The year after he died my brother put the hat on and I lost it. No one has put the hat on since. That was my Dad's and no one should wear it, is how I felt. Now I don't feel that way but.......

Bighair, I've always wanted to go on a cruise. I've been having difficulty coming up with rewards for achieving goals, maybe that would be a good reward for reaching goal...I better start saving! I'll remember though..no turkey! lol

Cespringall, I am so sorry for your loss. I understand how a special holiday can be affected after a loss, my mom passed away Christmas morning of 2000. It has always been a family favorite holiday, mostly because my mom was just a big kid at heart and always gave that extra something to the holiday. The first few Christmas were tough, but the family decided that we needed to make the holiday special our own way and find a way of using that time to celebrate the memory of her. So I found beautiful hand painted tree ornaments in her favorite colors, bought one for my brother, my dad, myself and my son. We put these on the tree Xmas morning, welcome mom to the day and then we spend a bit of time sharing some of our favorite memories of her silliness. We all laugh and laugh and it gives us happy memories to start a difficult anniversary and turn it into a celebration. It's working well for our family, it certainly has changed Christmas forever, but it is no longer a day that we just wanted to ignore. So I hope as this October approaches, your cherished memories of your husband will bring you comfort.

Cespring, I hope this Halloween and Thanksgiving are the best ever. Holidays can be tough when we're going thru a recent loss, so work hard to find that inner happiness and embrace the special times!

We love Thanksgiving and Halloween. Both in October here. For Thanksgiving we rent a cottage and the whole family goes. Plus anyone else who wants to tent or camper or whatever.

We haven't been able to that the last couple of years since my husband's car accident. He passed away in June, so I'm not looking forward to Thanksgiving or Halloween this year.

When it's the entire family I usually select Princess, so that's where we usually do thanksgiving. Just Bob and I do Celebrity. And I LOVE their food, just not the turkey.
My plan is now this:
1)for every drink of alcohol I will then have 1 diet soda and 1 bottle of water (booze calories kill me)
2)I WILL actually GO to the gym, not just acknowledge that it's there. Instead of: Oh, the gym... COOL! Now where's the bar and the buffet??
3) if I order an appetizer then I won't order dessert or vice versa.

LOL I need to bring Bob or Jillian from Biggest Loser on the cruise with me and have them shadow me. "Don't eat that. Walk the promenade. work work work!!" LOL

Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

Oh man! The only Thanksgiving time cruise I've ever been on was last year on Princess and the turkey was REALLY good.

I started my weight gain with cruising too, but my boyfriend and I have a system down now, I usually manage not to gain, but unlike a certain friend of mine, I've never lost. He managed to lose 5 pounds on a 14 day cruise!

ACK NOOOO I hate Cruise turkey. After 51 cruises I will never order that dry YUCKY turkey!! My turkey is galaxies better than Princess or Celebrity or Carnival, NCL, MSC or Royal Caribbean. Every thanksgiving I warn people, DON'T order the turkey. They do. Then they have to ask for something else.
I usually order seafood on Thanksgiving. I read somewhere that the Pilgrims actually ate seafood at their feast. So that's why I'll do it too!! LOL And if it isn't true... Oh well!
I cruise 4 to 10 weeks a year and I think that's a partial reason that I'm fat. (well actually eating too much and exercising too littlie is why I'm fat.) But I gain weight every cruise because I enjoy not having to cook and clean up. And after every cruise I lose about 1/2 of what I gain.
I need a better plan when I cruise. OK I HAVE better plans. I just don't stick w/ them. I need a personal food and exercise monitor to cruise w/ me! LOL
emoticon emoticon

PS: I was just thinking. I SHOULD order the turkey. It's so awful (IMHO) that I won't overeat!

BigHairTexan - Don't worry, on the cruise they will have a fantastic Thanksgiving dinner. Not exactly homemade, but pretty darn close and VERY tasty. I recommend ordering two entrees, because usually there's an amazing lobster dinner too! I don't personally eat lobster, but that's what my boyfriend did and he was one happy (and stuffed!) camper!

As for me, I'm fairly meh about holidays. I like the ones that give me 3 day weekends, and the 4th of July has a special place in my heart because it's a fun summer holiday and I love fireworks. Other than that? Christmas is stressful, New Years signals the end of the holiday season, Thanksgiving I usually have to spend with some cousins who make it a point to talk politics because they know we'll disagree. What canya do?

I like Thanksgiving a lot, as often my family (which is scattered around the country) spend it together. This year my kids and their spouses and Bob and I (and a few other inlaws) are going on a cruise together so it will be VERY cool, though I'll miss my home made turkey and trimmings.

With the holiday weekend here I thought it would be good to find out more about what holidays we enjoy.

So what is your favorite holiday? Why? How do you celebrate that holiday?
