YARNCAT, I used The Athlete's Foot - there's one in Mid-Town. I think there is one in Northport too. They are great - they'll actually watch you walk to see how your feet "operate" in order to determine the best shoe and fit for your feet. I'm so glad I did that - along with that shin and ankle pain, I had been having numbness in my toes at times in my other shoes!

They're new shoes, only been worn a couple times. I think the biggest problem is how out of shape I am. All I've been doing for a while is sitting around the house. If it doesn't get better, I'll check into different shoes. Is there a good place where someone can fit me?

It will definitely get better and much easier. When you're able, I would suggest trying to get a good pair of shoes for walking - when I first started I noticed that my shins and ankles hurt alot while walking and found that it was because I had the wrong shoes!

It was too hot in the house to ride my bike, so took Sophie (dog) for a walk, or should I say a drag. We walked for 20 mins. My ankles hurt, my shins hurt, my knees hurt, my thighs hurt and the catch-in-my get-along started acting up. Just got to keep on going-it should get better.

I LOVE the eliptical machine. Wish I had one at home along with my treadmill but don't think I really have room for anything else anyway. But you're right that thing will make you work those butt muscles!! Way to go!

I hopped back on the eliptical today for the first time in about a month. I didn't have any trouble breathing and oh boy could I feel my butt muscles. I guess that means they are still there.

Good for you Jenny! I have to admit, I can't get too motivated for walking outside since I literally hate the feeling of being cold...crazy I know. BUT, as I read a blog yesterday, I felt so motivated to get some exercise in yesterday and even planned for it, but by the time I got home, found I didn't feel well....just had the chills, could NOT for the life of me get warm, so I put on lots of warm clothes, heated leftover chilli up for the fam, fixed myself some Campbell's Select Chicken Noodle Soup and went to bed early. . .then around 3AM, woke up feeling terrible pain - have a urinary tract infection (seem to get them rather often) so I guess that's why I felt so bad it just didn't really "hit" until early morning today. Hopefully my meds will kick in really SOON!!

@ the gym for 45 miutes of cardio followed by weights. Why can't people park? center your vehicle in the spot. other people need to park. my mom once got so boxed in she got a note and stuck it to both vehicles. it was a picture of Mickey Mouse smiling with his middle finger up. The text read " Thank you for parking right next to me, next time leave me a f***ing can opener." real classy mom, but effective.

emoticon Jenny! That's awesome. I notice that I am in much better spirits when I exercise too! It just makes me feel so good - almost a "rush" type thing I guess. Before I started exercising I would always feel so down and just didn't want to do anything whatsoever. On Sundays - I would ALWAYS take a nap around 1 or 2 PM like clockwork - I just felt I couldn't make it through the day. So now, my husband has even noticed I never take those Sunday naps anymore and I'm always MOVING! Even our everyday tasks such my Saturday or Sunday house cleaning burns calories and I track that on my fitness tab here on SparkPeople as well! Heck - that's work - at least it is at my house with a teenage son, a pre-teen son, and active & prissy 7 year old daughter along with a husband!! ha ha

Keep it up! You can do it girl!

(actually last night - not today)...I get on my treadmill and proceed to choose a 300 or 350 calorie workout (I forget) program. Once I begin the "jog" session, my right foot on the bottom of the inside began to just ACHE AND my left inside of my ankle hurt like it was hit with a hammer and bruised!!! I immediately had to push stop after I had gone on for about 10 minutes through this. So I go ahead and choose the "250 calorie burn" workout and while it was uncomfortable it was better. BUT my ankle and foot are in pain today! I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I think I will have to have a night off tonight to let my feet / ankle rest though. Will try again tomorrow!

Today I..... feel so BLAH!!! What's up with that?! I had a great weekend - The b'day party I planned for my hubby went great - the game was great - I didn't overeat (didn't even have birthday cake Saturday! but I did sneak in a piece on Sunday!) I didn't get to exercise Fri., Sat. or Sun. though, however, on Sunday I did shop - ALOT so I feel like I got a good walk in at the malls. I added 10 extra minutes to my treadmill walk/jog last night and burned 270 calories which felt great so why the blah?! I have to weigh in today and I'm feeling I may not have lost anything either. OK OK OK I know!!! enough!!! Maybe I'll feel better after I weigh (fingers crossed). Hope everyone is having a good day.

Two laps around the VA with DH. DH messed up his knee and as part of his recovery he is to alternate rest peroids and light exercise. We had a cool breeze and DH had a good attitude- makes for a good walk. followed up with light weights at home.

So yesterday (Wed.) morning I did that 30-Day Shred video - Jillian Michaels. I still don't have weights so I did it without them and let me tell ya - that is A WORKOUT! OUCH....by the time I got to work I could barely climb the stairs, my legs were so shakey/wobbly! lol

Last night my husband bought me a treadmill!!!! I'm SOOOOOOO excited! It has 8 different workouts pre-programmed for you, it has some type of shock-abosorbant bottom that you walk on, an iPod dock with speakers and something that helps monitor your heart rate, etc. to see how many calories you burn. I can't wait to use it tonight! I have wanted to get one for over a year. When we lived in WA state, I used one nearly every evening at the clubhouse in the neighborhood where we lived so I really enjoy them but I plan to keep alternating and doing more aerobic/strengh exercises as well of course!

DH and I walked 2 laps around the VA as it started getting dark. We each had mini mag lights for the back part of the walk. The mist rolled in and was kind of romantic. DH said it gave him the willies. That's a man for ya.

Yesterday evening, I got a walk/jog in - 30 minutes total with 3 sets of crunches afterwards. Even had the 3 kids join in!! What do you think? Does doing a "walk / jog" type thing burn more calories than strictly walking the entire 30 minutes?

I spent 50 minutes on the treadmill and did weights after. I was ripping through those reps like superwoman. I think the free weights at home are having a positive effect. I alternate between the machine at the gym and 5 pound hand weights at home. I quess it's time to kick it up a notch.

treadmill and weights. Somebody sprayed Lysol into the fan in the workout room and blasted the whole room BEFORE she worked out. She was there 10 minutes at the most and didn't spray after she was finished I guess our germs aren't as good as her germs.

Yesterday I did full body ST, just a quick one, and today was rowing and a 3 mile run -- went great! :)

It's great that you and DH get in exercise together even if he isn't totally consisitent.

I was indoors on the eliptical 35 minutes followed by weights whle DH ran the track outside by himself. He's been inconsistant but he is exercising.

I did nothing today. YAY OFF DAY! But yesterday I did ROW for like an hour and did a trail run for the first time ever -- now THAT was fun! I went to Sokol Park for the first time and just kinda took off into the woods. :) hahahaha.
