The major companies all have web sites and are very helpful and will assess your needs, problem areas and help you find the products that meet your needs. Convatec and Hollister are very helpful. They will also send you samples to try out to see what is the best fit.

I am an RN who has Dysmotility Syndrome. I have taught many people about ostomies and their care and I also have one. Durahesive vs Stomahesive also depends on what type of ostomy you have. Colostomy vs Ileostomy or Urostomy. Durahesive works the best for liquidy waste. Therefore, durahesive is best for ilestomies and urostomies. Also, vented bags help with keeping the "air" from lifting the wafer.

sounds like i need to swap to a duahesive don't I. Maybe why i have to use pink tape so much. I will order them next time and see if it helps.

I use to have an ET nurse, but he left our area. Over time i must have got the wrong ones.

Hi bea! Good question! It took me awhile to figure it out initially.

I use durahesive because it's thicker and holds up to liquid output better. It was designed for ileostomies but it's not exclusive. I also notice that the wafer seems to hold up to water activities well.

stomahesive is the company's standard wafer. It's lighter than the other and, I believe it's a little less expensive. It's usually used with colostomies.
