Links to a news article about a health food store called Annie's in Buckhannon.
"Annie's Market, a mecca of organic foods, supplements and other products for healthier living, has moved to a bigger location at 58 S. Kanawha St. The rambling, green Victorian house has Annie's owner, Ann Rexroad, thinking and planning big."
"Annie's Market stocks dairy-free cheeses and wheat-free products. She also uses them at the deli for her customers with allergies.
Annie's Market employee Amy Botzet's daughter was 3 when she was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. Four years later, she was diagnosed with celiac disease. Now she's 11 and has not had any wheat or wheat-contaminated products since her celiac diagnosis.
"She is off her medication," Botzet said. "The doctors are hopeful the colitis may just go away. When my daughter was first diagnosed, Molly's Pantry (Annie's Market predecessor and old location) carried a few gluten-free items, and then it closed. Annie's has made my life so much easier."
Botzet's daughter is not alone.
One out of every 150 Americans has celiac disease, an autoimmune reaction to the gluten in wheat that destroys the villi in the small intestine, according to a University of Maryland Center for Celiac Research website."
