Glad that all went fine for you. It is too bad that you did not get to go to the pizza place. Well maybe next time.

Well, I am back from my trip and managed to not gluten myself while i was traveling. My father-in-law has an affinity for national chain restaurants, so we went to Panera Bread for lunch one day in Denver. I had suggested a pizza place that serves gf crust, but I was vetoed. I got a salad at Panera, but my husband was mad that his dad chose Panera because I can't eat from 99% of the menu. Oh well. :)

That is a good point about the sauce! I was looking on a can of chipotle chiles in an adobo sauce and discovered that there is wheat on the ingredient list! I do definitely always ask when I go out, I have learned the dangers of assuming something is safe.

Bethany, you also said that you love Mexican food. I know that some of the food is made with corn, eg, tacos and enchiladas. I always ask first just in case. However, you have to watch the sauce. I know a place that DH and I go here in town has the red sauce and it is made with flour. So I just have them put the cheese on top and it is just fine.

I am glad that you are getting alot of good info from the members. I just knew they would all come to the rescue. You take care and when you get ready to go, have a safe and fun trip.
Tell us all about your adventures and how the eating went for you.

May sound crazy but often times when we travel I prepare my own breakfast. Eggs. I have to have protein in the morning. My husband and I try to stay places that have a refrigerator in the room.

www.target.com/s/pancake-maker

This is an electric pancake maker. When you open the lid it has 2 indentions for the pancake batter. It is perfect for cooking eggs. I am on my 3rd maker in who knows how many years. It is so ultra convenient! Cleans out with a paper towel.

Have fun on your trip!! Lots of luck to you and I hope you find lots to eat. emoticon

Yep--checked out a couple of GF boards on Denver, but also checked Arkansas as well. It turns out there is a restaurant in Jonesboro called Piero's that is a gluten-free restuarant or has gluten-free options (different sites say different things). I read on a discussion board that one of the family members who runs the restuarant has a wheat allergy. So, I am hoping that I can get all of my travelling companions to come with me to Pieros!

Denver has a lot of options, as I have family there and visited last fall. Udi's is in Denver. I always check the internet for local GIG groups, they have the best info.

Great info!! I will not be home for at least 2 1/2 months because my husband will be going through a bone marrow transplant and I will be staying in his room and after they decide that he is able to leave the hospital then we will be staying in House of Hope until they decide he is able to come home. That might be around Christmas. They will feed him but not me so I have to rely on restaurant foods.

You can always order simple food - grilled fish or chicken, steamed rice and vegis, salads. I have rarely found a place where I couldn't eat GF.

Charlene--Thanks! I like all kinds of food, especially Mexican food and most Asian cuisine. We tend to try to focus on local restaurants wherever we go, but we are not in control of the itinerary on this trip, so I'm not sure where we'll end up.

This will be an interesting adventure! :)

Hi Bethany
Have fun on your travels. What sort of food do you like? I do not know if there is a Red Robin in those areas, but know they do have a gluten free menu. If you like a good steak for dinner find out if they have an Outback as they also have gf menus. As far as breakfast I am not too sure. I know that from reading the posts some were saying to be careful about scramble eggs as they do put flour in them to make them fluffier.

I am sure that other members will come on and give some good suggestions and may even know of places where you are going. Good luck and have a safe trip.

I will be traveling to Tennessee, Arkansas and Denver, Colorado pretty soon and was wondering anyone has any tips on where/what to eat. I will be taking snacks with me, but a girl cannot survive on snacks alone! I will be in Memphis, TN and Jonesboro, AK.
