Whole Foods "near" us has gluten-free events. The event is about 2 hours includes a tour of the store and I think samples. I haven't been since it is about an hour away. We only go every 2 months and stock up on non-perishables.
Everyone should go and ask thier health food stores to do that. They had a diabetic day, and a senior day, once too. Next month they have a kids day. They hand out a calendar of events to customers at check-out, plus they send emails. They have a lot of doctors and specialists who have presentations in the evenings on various subjects like healing with herbs, probiotics, self-image, cholesteral, etc. Tell the managers of your health food stores! This store is a chain, but not huge like whole foods.
Yesterday was Gluten Free Day at my local "Nutrition S'Mart" health food store. The store has a calendar of monthly events and I was so excited to see a whole day devoted to celiacs! So I went over and checked it out. They had a lot of food samples, some were box mixes of cakes and cookies, they had pizzas, homemade food too- like a pasta recipie and some coconut chocolate cookies. I tried some amazing mueseli cereal and a greens drink that were all gluten free! They had coupons too, and there were a lot of celiacs there to talk to. The store is even starting a list to eventually get a support group together for local celiacs to meet monthly. I recommend everyone ask their local health food stores to try something like this. It was a huge success and I was very happy I attended.
