I've enjoyed my path of sustaining many healthy habits in high number of freggie servings, fiber, fitness, and hydration. Joined my first SAC3 challenge and my team (20/20 Foresight) came in first place for Week One, Week Four, and for the overall Best in Show! WooHoo! I came in 11th place of over 200 people in weight loss category, so I'm happy to again be in a much better healthy maintenance mode again. I would not mind being about five pounds less, but I'm not going to fret over this. Being a healthy BMI and being able to use God's temple for serving in love is what it's all about!

Goal Weight: 161 lbs (Lost 100 lbs July 16, 2011)
Beginning Weight (12/29 - Thursdays)

January 05: 155.0 (-0.2 lb) Maintenance Happy!

Virtual races produce real results! SparkFriends collectively hold great wisdom as I’ve read some of the most amazing blogs these last two weeks. My SparkFriends truly know how to highlight some of the best blogs. As a now faithfully fit person who is beginning Week 28 of Maintenance, I see God at work within so many of my SparkFriends! In my own journey, joy this week was found in:

- The generosity of sweet Jacki for recognition beyond the call of duty . . . . an incredible God moment that will keep on giving for years!
- Learning some of the many names by which God calls me: Faithful . . . Redeemed . . . Steward . . . Forgiven . . . Light . . . Salt . . . Prayerful . . . Clay, etc
- The great favor as revealed through Susan’s “Jesus is the Reason” newsletter.
- The understanding of a friend and mentor who called me just in the nick of time so that I could go from being relatively bored in a nightie to dressed and safely at a church event two minutes early. Seems moi inadvertently had the wrong weekend marked in her random access memory.
- The power of God’s grace through the ability of a friend to reinvent herself and to be invited to share in that transformation.
- The unity of God’s people through prayer, devotion, ministry, and breaking of bread as we come together to be better followers of Christ’s will in our lives.
- The humility of living in Christ through servanthood towards others
- The reliance of being a prayer warrior for a friend in need.
- The confidence of God’s power to share encouraging messages of hope and joy.

Do you see yourself in this power? . . . that’s not surprising! It truly does take a village to raise a child . . . a child of God! Thank you, my friends for many of you were a part of helping make this a fabulous week!

Notes for the week:
This was another great faith-filled week as I now begin Week 28 of Maintenance. It’s hard to believe I’ve been at or below my goal weight for more than six months. WooHoo!

My 5% Challenge team presented the toughest of all challenges . . . to blog daily. My blog titles, “Achieving Balance” have become the goal I wish to continue making improvements on during this first year of maintaining my goal weight. Reading other blogs, I could see my goals were beginning to take on a theme, I chose to write them up in a fun way with six “F” words:

FAITH: Spend 15 minutes daily in the study of God’s word and knit two prayer shawls with each 5% challenge (10 per year). Honor God by making faith an active verb.

FAMILY and FRIENDS: Spend quality time (be present) with family and friends weekly. Listen carefully. Contribute heartily to the weekly healthy living challenges (I realize this last one is not very measurable, but I’ll know it when I see it!).

FOOD: Maintain a healthy BMI. Daily: Track, eat six or more freggies, drink 12 or more waters and satisfy 4-7 recommend levels of: calories, fat, carbohydrates, protein, fiber, calcium, and sodium.

FITNESS: Track daily and average 70 minutes (or more) of daily cardio and strength training. Sleep 7-9 hours a night six days a week.

FUN: Do something fun at least three times a week.

Study brought “salt and light” to the following scriptures: “Feed my sheep.” (John 21:17b) . . . “I needed clothes and you clothed me . . . “(Matt 25:36a) . . . “You care for the land and water it; you enrich it abundantly. The streams of God are filled with water to provide the people with grain, for so you have ordained it.” (Psalm 65:9) . . . God's covenant with Noah: "Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth." (Genesis 9:16) . . . For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11)

Nothing to be concerned about this small gain. I think this one-week gain is more about sodium intake than anything else. I am very happy to congratulate Gloryandme in being the last Teddy Standing.

A week filled with wonderful opportunities to enhance my faith, food, and fitness goals.

In the faith realm, I found three opportunities to serve the Lord in the area of feeding and clothing our neighbor in need, as well as worship through devotion, prayer, and praise, and study.

Lately, I’ve been tweaking my healthier homemade pizza options and found that if I leave off the sweet peppers, I can successfully make a terrific thin-crust pizza on the light (90-calorie) Italian flat out bread or an even larger base with a (100-calorie) Lavash sheet without needing a fork. Learning is often a simple accident, as I run out of one ingredients and try something new. Today, I made a huge pot of soup where each 12-oz serving included two servings of freggies, with 152 cal, 3g fat, 25 g carbs, 4 g fiber, and 6.5 g protein. I ate five bowls throughout the day. So yummy!

In the fitness arena, I’ve done more Coach Nicole videos this week primarily in strength training (thanks to the Official January Jumpstart challenge). I can tell my strength training time and quality of work have improved this week.

While I no longer need to lose weight, I'm happy to see nearly a stick of butter gone. I'm confident I'll plateau comfortably, as I am now more interested in lessening some of that lose skin. For that, I'm enjoying the shake-up I'm getting from three great Spark Programs: 1) The 5% challenge that encourages me to work as much as 120 fitness minutes daily (for 8 weeks), 2) 28-day official January Jumpstart Workout Team, and 3) Coach Nicole's 28-day bootcamp DVD, which is available from Target and has a $3 coupon available on this website: www.sparkpeople.com/resource/fitness

I am blessed beyond my needs. I celebrate life and all that God has given me. Today I celebrate the last (twelfth) Day of Christmas while tomorrow is Epiphany: The manifestation of Christ to the Gentiles as represented by the Magi (Matthew 2:1–12).

I hope you're all bringing in the new year with your new and healthy habits. For me, that means honoring God and my worship (Romans 12:1).

Notes for the current week weigh-in
This has been a great week. While I am not one to make new year resolutions, I strive to find varied and diverse ways to live a healthy lifestyle with an emphasis on faith, family, friends, and neighbors. This week I returned to enjoying one of my relatively new wintertime favorites: Steel Cut Oats. They require a 20-minute cooking, so I usually make four servings at a time and store for later enjoyment.

I tried two new recipes this week: Yesterday, I looked at some of my “saved” recipes and made a mock tuna salad from crushed chickpeas. This is a keeper I plan to make again. I have a very healthy appetite and made Hungry Girl Lisa’s Creamy Carrot Soup today. I’ll definitely make this again. If you’re interested, I’ve keyed in her recipe at http://recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-deta
il.asp?recipe=1910497.

My strategies at the buffet, one of my favorite places to eat, continues to work for me. I love choices and options and find no better place to get the best bang for my buck. On the home-front, the much-disliked chore of housekeeping received a great workout in preparation to having guests over for dinner and cards for the new year. Regardless of the weather, the Weber will get a workout.

Hope you’re able to choose the better and healthier option when given the choice. Next week, I continue to work on simplifying areas of my home.

This has been an incredible week. One holiday has ended and a new one about to begin as I am now closer to family. I guess I could have lost closer to a stick of butter had I taken off my glasses and earrings at my Weight Watcher Weigh-in, but .2 lbs, is just fine considering that I’m officially in maintenance mode. My goal is to be an active “Last Teddy Standing” for the first three weeks of an eight-week challenge.

On a faith note, I have completed in three weeks, three prayer shawls exceeding my 5% goals for challenge that goes into January. I have spent two days with friends who bring me closer to my faith while we share a zest for life that our friends, family, and faith provide for us. Jesus is our reason for the Season and we’re happy to see so many people celebrate the true meaning of Christmas. One prayer shawl was made for another one of my church families.

I was also blessed by God in being able to spend quality time in prayer for a dear SparkFriend . . . to whom I was able to present with a prayer shawl this week in Herb Garden colors. This business of becoming healthier is not just an online, impersonal social network. We truly gain friendships through these beautiful SparkPages and through the journey all our friends make. I praise God for your successes and take to heart and prayer in your trials and heartbreaks. This body is not my own and now I feel much more empowered to take better care of what God has given me. I am so very blessed.

Hope you’re having an exceptional week! Hope to see all of you, but less of you next week! Enjoy your weight loss journey!

The WW e-tools have been available to me while paying the $39 monthly fee for five and a half years. I understand the monthly fee has just gone up and likely continues to cover access to the etools.

I love my Weight Watcher meetings and have been going weekly now for about five and a half years . . . social networking goes just so far but I have found SparkPeople to be a great complement to what I started at Weight Watchers. I've compared our calorie ranges to the PointsPlus system, and the numbers are very compatible. I've gotten to know both my Weight Watcher instructors and have good friends who attend the location I call home.

I think most of the changes reflect the people near or at maintenance. I don't think too many people in the other-than-29-pt bracket experienced much change, however I know that they have a new Points Calculator ($15) out that is either $5 or $6 during December (I will probably get one). New members now will have a three-meeting introduction to the program and will also be able to pick up a 7-day menu planner that allows for the new 26-29 variation made. I'm disappointed in this one aspect of WW in that you have to have a specialized calculator in order to determine the PointsPlus points.

Ehagfeld, I went back to WW on Monday, and found that the pt system has changes a bit. I was unable to stay, but will be in the house on Monday to determine what is new and how to proceed. I like Spark, but I am in need of the physical presence and action that my local group provides. I will be weighing -in on Monday and will report. You, my friend are not only a success story but such an inspiration as well.

The good news is that I now have a 4-lb cushion for my Weight Watcher Lifetime Membership. Today, they introduced a small change in the point system. Should I want to go in weight loss mode again, my 29 daily point allowance now becomes my choice: 26-29 points. I must confess to being a bit terse when I cancelled my monthly pass, effective October 1, to learn that there was a monthly charge for using e-tools. With my primary tracking with SparkPeople, giving up e-tools was easy . . . they lost a good success story. Now they want us back! As long as we check in monthly, staying within two pounds of our goal weight, there remains no charge for e-tools.

Being that BALANCE will be a primary focus for the next few months, I will likely limit my key online access to one resource: SparkPeople.com. The support, encouragement, and camaraderie of my SparkTeams and SparkFriends are priceless.

I treated myself to a fun night at the Dinner Theatre on Wednesday night. My fresh and non-fried freggies (fruits and veggies) on the buffet were incredible and likely made up 80% of my salad, dinner, and dessert plates).

On a faith note, I am about to complete two prayer shawls this week (my goal for both December and January). A lot of people have brought to me their prayer concerns and being in prayer is one of my favorite faith activities. To God be the Glory.

Hope you’re having an exceptional week! Hope to see all of you, but less of you next week! (smiling) Enjoy your weight loss journey!

Goal Weight 161
Ending October Weight: 156.6

Dec 01 158.2 (+1.6 lbs -- not worried, just winter wear)

To God be the glory! This has been a terrific week! Good eating and the scales really only reflect a change of clothes now that the cooler weather is upon me at the Weight Watcher scales (sweater top and athletic shoes). My status posted yesterday shows where my head is at: Ehagfeld is as passionate about the celebration of life as she is about the foods she enjoys! It’s a kind of "balance" with a little spunk! Rock on!

In preparation for the 5% challenge that begin on Saturday at 12 AM, I've set an 8-week set of healthy goals to include:

1) Maintain a healthy BMI (130-174) by maintaining my goal of 161 lbs.
2) Track fitness daily.
3) Average 70 minutes (or more) of daily cardio and strength training.
4) Track food daily.
5) Eat six or more servings of freggies daily.
6) Drink at least 12 cups of water daily.
7) Satisfy 4-7 recommended levels of: calories, fat, carbohydrates, protein, fiber, calcium, and sodium daily.
8) Sleep 7-9 hours a night six days a week.
9) Actively participate (6-7 x wk) in Living The Good Life weekly healthy habit challenges.
10) Spend at least 15 minutes daily in the study of God’s word.
11) Do something fun at least three times a week
12) Knit two prayer shawls.

With Advent beginning last Sunday, I wish you all a "Happy New Year" with the start of the Christian Calendar.

I'm hoping you have a great month in preparation for Christmas. When many have already begun celebrating Christmas, I currently celebrate the season of Advent (and Christmas) and will celebrate all twelve days of Christmas (Dec 25 - Jan 5), before the season of Epiphany begins on Jan 6, 2012. May you feel rich in God's love this Christmas. "For God so loved the world he gave his only begotten Son . . . ." (John 3:16).

Hug, hug!

I’d also like to expand my blog by sharing my references from the Amplified Bible:

Matt 22:37-39
And He replied to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind (intellect). (38) This is the great (most important, principal) and first commandment. (39) And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as [you do] yourself.

John 10:10
The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it [a]overflows).

John 16:24
Up to this time you have not asked a [single] thing in My Name [as presenting all that I AM]; but now ask and keep on asking and you will receive, so that your joy (gladness, delight) may be full and complete.

Colossians 3:17
And whatever you do [no matter what it is] in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus and in [dependence upon] His Person, giving praise to God the Father through Him.

1 Peter 4:11
Whoever speaks, [let him do it as one who utters] oracles of God; whoever renders service, [let him do it] as with the strength which God furnishes abundantly, so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ (the Messiah). To Him be the glory and dominion forever and ever (through endless ages). Amen (so be it).

May you be making great progress throughout your journey to take great care for one of the most important people here . . . that’s YOU!

Your faith is strong, Sweetlips, and because it is an integral part of why you are making God's body healthier, you will ultimately succeed. Our journey is never an easy one . . . we are tested numerous times throughout the process. I pray that you continue to pass those tests and that God reward you greatly for the beautiful heart of service you offer us and others. Praise to God!

What a great testimony to eliminating sugar. I hope this is thought if as a matter of life and death mentality . . . if not, we all fall short much too easily to temptation, and you'll need to know how those side effects will need to be dealt with.

I've heard it said that it takes 14 days to build a healthy habit. For me, I tend to allow myself a little extra time of due diligence to get it right. (smile, smile) Even 18 weeks into maintenance mode, I continue to need to track, track, track. This may be the first week in a long time I have not added a new recipe to my recipe box. I do, however, see a day when I can begin to do a little more eyeballing of foods . . . and may soon begin to work in a few days of this. Perhaps this is something I can incorporate in 2012.

In the meantime, I hope you don't mind . . . I'd like to share a version of your email and prayer with my mission group. We make mittens in the fall and winter for the homeless and people in need, and find other ways where we can be a service to our neighbor in need. You expressed yourself so well in this time of loneliness, I'd like to share some of this in a weekly devotion with the group (which is why I looked up the appropriate scriptures).

I praise God for your leadership! I praise God for the great gift of encouragement and reaching out he has blessed you with. You are an inspiration!

Ehagfeld, what a wonderful post. I had gained 8 pounds, up an ddown and up and down. My weigh in last week was 238. I am purposed to weight bi-weekly as not to become brooding in this effort. As a result this week:

I have embraced the no sugar - infact there is a spin in my journey called No Mo' Sugar. I am now on day 7 and while I have had one day where I desired something in my mouth, didnot know what, I resisted, drank water and found myself somewhere to sit. I also eliminated all processed food and for sweetners, I have used stevia sparingly this week, and in my probiotic cottage cheese, I add 1 tbs of all fruit jam.

I started the week with high sugar readings, that within 2 days dropped 65 points. When I went to the doctor, she took me off of one med from Beyetta (an injectable) which is a contrindication for gastroparesis - Beyetta slows down digestions and gastroparesis impedes the motility of food passing through the gastro track. I have been put on glucontrolxl. As I understand, It works by stimulating the release of the body's natural insulin. Side effects can cause low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Also, chills, shaking - umm, all signs of hypoglycemia.

I have to make sure that I have regular spaced meals, check my sugar far more regularly because of exercise and the potential of hypoglycemia. This will work in tandum with my clean-eating, eliminating sugar and processed food.

My meals have been 2 -3 light sweet fruit, apples, pears, clementines, and then tons of veggies. With the new medication, I went from a 216 fasting blood sugar to 122. This med works effectively with clean eating.

I was only able to exercise 2 days this week so far, and I have plans for exercise today. I had a semi stressed work week that precluded the exercise because I was on the telephone for conference calls as early as 6:30 am and as late as 8:00 p.m. On Thursday morning and Ehagfeld, I valued me enough to resolve that I was important and need to take care of me. I had done all I could do and my piece was working and there was no need for me to a hostage to something that I could do nothing about.

I also took me time and I have congratulated me on wanting to live a great life in celebration.

Current Week Notes:
My Teddy Bear Team comes to a close today. This concludes my fifth 5% Challenge. This was my second 8-week challenge where my goal was to successfully maintain my weight. For the sake of the team -- cause I love healthy competition -- I more than double the fitness minutes I would put in on any given day of the week. However, my favorite aspect of the team challenges are the healthy habits we learn to incorporate into our week. With each challenge, I find myself imprinting on my brain waves the importance of owning these healthy habits. While I do not mean it to be derogatory, I consider myself a bit of a slow learner in areas that should warrant greater attention . . . fortunately it works well with my mission to be a life-long learner. I take these healthy living habits seriously, and have come to understand their importance in living the good life:

1) WATER: I’ve been drinking a lot of water every day long before I joined these challenges. I typically drink a gallon of water a day. I'm blessed with a natural thirst for water (without being diabetic),

2) FIBER: As a flexitarian (someone who doesn’t rely on meat as a source of protein) and Weight Watcher, I already knew the importance fiber played in eating core, filling, or power foods to feel “satisfied” about my food intake throughout the day. It was the 5% challenge that really brought out the best of my enjoying fiber 5 or 6 weeks of the year where I would allow myself to exceed my recommended fiber intake.

3) SLEEP: Several challenges ago, I joined the SparkPeople Official Sleep Challenge, as I had allowed my daytime work and late-night activities steal my precious sleep time. Retirement solved much of this, but now I enjoy sleeping 7-9 hours a night six or seven days a week. I have yet to pack early enough for a major trip to get 7 hours of sleep in advance – something to work on!

4) FREGGIES: Yum! This is so my week and I’m sure many people think I’m crazy in working in so many great freggies (fruits and veggies) in any one day (averaging 28 a day over a 7-day challenge). Normally, I eat 8-15 freggies in any given day.

5) TRACKING: I’ve been tracking seven key nutrients (calories, carbs, proteins, fat, sodium, calcium, and fiber) for so long that I can’t remember a time when I didn’t track. Oops . . . sounds like I may have a short-term memory problem. (smile, smile)

6) BREAKFAST: I’ve quit skipping breakfast for mega years! I have made improvements in making sure I work in all my key nutrients. And on days when I save my calories for eating out, I eat a lighter than normal breakfast (but do not skip this meal).

7) ME Time: Spark has taught me more about incorporating “me” time. Since my faith is an integral aspect of my life, most of my “me” time is faith-based time. To God be the glory! SparkyCarley inspired me this week to find the beautiful in me, bringing me to the following scripture along with the realization that God does not create junk: “He has made everything beautiful in its time.” (Ecc 3:11a) After all, we are created in God’s image . . . how awesome is that!

8) SELF APPRECIATION: Apparently, we don’t pat ourselves on the back enough. Okay . . . still don’t care for this particular challenge. It’s much easier to give a word of encouragement or thanks to someone else than it is to give yourself a complimentary SparkGoodie.

The Winter 5% challenge will begin in a few weeks. I am blessed to have SparkFriends that make for friendly competition as some are on one of nine other teams. The Winter challenge is filling quickly and on a first-come, first-serve basis. After the teams fill, all the 5% teams go “private” meaning we can post things we might not post on our public page.

May you find joy in your journey to healthy living.

Ehagfeld thank you so much for this thread. I am having some days, but my mind is made up to move forward with small goals. I did notice that you had lost one hundred, so I read through your blogs and the most common thread was consistency - and faith. We can do all things through Christ that strengthen's us and that is what you show on your journey. Have a wonderful evening. I have enjoyed adding the freggie's - my new fruit this week - not new to eat, but just started buying again is star fruit. I have enjoyed it. Take care and thank you.

My goal weight remains at 161.2. So far, November seems to be a bit more dramatic. My first week gain was likely due to sodium, while my second week loss is a bit more mysterious (after eating at a Chinese Buffet the night before a noon weigh-in.) Nevertheless, I’m happy to report that I’m now down 106 lbs with a 22.3 BMI. Very happy!

Nov 05 160.4 (+2.2 lbs just a fluke – no biggie)
Nov 12 155.6 (-4.8 lbs)
Nov 19
Nov 26

Current Week Notes:
My Teddy Bear Team encouraged the teams to a week of freggies (fruits and veggies). I made it my personal best averaging 28 freggies over seven days by ending on my highest ever note of 43 freggies while remaining within my calorie, protein, and carbohydrate recommendations. WooHoo!

As for my challenges to celebrate and eat new foods and recipes:
1 – I found myself at the grocery store adding Brussels sprouts to a couple of my dishes. I’m not that crazy about the shape, so I shred it and make a delightful stir fry with black mustard seeds, onions, chilies, and light curry spices.
2 – I developed a black mushroom (vegetarian) Pho (Vietnamese Rice Noodle soup) that filled a large serving bowl with 14 freggie servings.
3 – Acorn squash was one of my recommended freggies for the week. This was an easy one to enjoy for two days.
4 – I discovered that my homemade yogurt curry (just a half serving – 4 oz) that I normally serve with steamed broccoli, cauliflower, or cashews, is also terrific when combined with three cups of beet greens with some sautéed onion. I liken this recipe to hollandaise sauce (made light and nutritious). I even fixed the stems of the beet greens for eating. Nothing of the seasonal beet sale at my market went to waste. What a great way to enjoy 4 freggies in one side dish. This same yogurt curry went beautifully with 4 cups of shredded romaine. What a treat to up my good foods. I don’t ever recall cooking with romaine before and got the idea from dining with one of my Nepali friends who happened to stir fry some shredded romaine as a side veggie.
5 – I have also enjoyed pomegranates this week . . . something I haven’t had for a few months.
6 – I have been enjoying a home-made pizza using the Flat Out Bread and used this week to tweak it a bit so each pizza (6 slices) contains 7 freggies.

I’ve been home this week following a three-week holiday. The flurry of varied activities is what I believe to be the secret to a good fitness workout. There are a lot of activities going on as the students work diligently on their signature event of the year: Cultural Night. What a delight! In past years, I’ve donned Sri Lankan, Indian, and Nepali attire. This year, I’m wearing Chinese and have one of two outfits. I’ve pretty much made up my mind, I’ll wear the Younker’s sale outfit I bought while being fifty pounds heavier knowing I’d eventually make reach this smaller size. This day has finally come . . . Praise God!

This brings me to a primary reason that I believe this weight loss will be a keeper . . . it has been for the right reasons. The Apostle Paul says, “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.” (Romans 12:1)

I hope you’re finding some beautiful living moments during this sometimes difficult journey we’re on to make healthy improvements in the way we live life and worship.

My goal weight remains at 161.2. October began at 158.4 lbs and ended at 158.2 lbs (Very Happy). I expect November to run a similar course in returning to this 104 lb weight loss:

Nov 05 160.4 (+2.2 lbs just a fluke – no biggie)
Nov 12
Nov 19
Nov 26

Current Week Notes:
I went to my Wednesday evening Weight Watcher (WW) class at the last minute learning I would not be able to make my Thursday noon class. I wasn’t prepared for I had splurged with some delicious sweet potato fries and blackened herring in a bistro . . . we all know how sodium-laden our restaurants can be. Oh well, I knew going in the news would not be flattering (cause my home scale matches with WW) and as long as I’m under my 161 goal, I’m just fine. I’m already out of one competition and have to learn to not be so competitive. 8-)) As it is, I can attest to it being a fluke as my weight immediately was down the next two days. Sodium is a game that just loves to interfere with the scale. I shall continue to keep my joy!

In my Spark Challenges, we’re encouraged to try something new:

1 -- Our veggie this week is squash and that’s always been a winner. My husband got me started adding a dash of cinnamon to the moderate butter and brown sugar oven-back in an acorn squash. So yummy! I can’t seem to get enough of it – it’s that indulgent.

2 – SWEETLIPS will be glad to hear that I bought Brussels sprouts for the second (maybe third) time in my life this week. I’m so thrilled to have made her recipe with a little variation. And this works in well with my virtual trip to Shanhaiguan, China with my Teddy Bear Team. These bears have an amazing power over me to really work in some exceptional fitness minutes as we’ve already placed very well in our six weeks of competition.

3 -- Speaking of Teddy Bears, this is a freggie (fruits and veggies) week and I expect to ace this challenge with some spectacular numbers for the team (say 20 servings or so a day). I make a ten (10) veggie (black mushroom) Pho that is so good and love wilting 3-6 cups of spinach into a near nothing of a treat my taste buds have come to enjoy after learning to love them so much in my high-freggie tossed salads. I am so in my element with a freggie week!

4 -- As a northlander, there’s a distinct chill in the air making outdoor walks a bit cumbersome in the wraps department. I’m finding that I love to do an aerobic (albeit a low-impact by SparkStandards – ie as in Walking Away The Pounds). Quick trips to the supermarket or to McD’s for a cone (within range) are perfect on these cool days.

5 – Life is good! God is good! I was able to return home to see that my maple tree actually shared fall colors this year. I seem to have trees in my yard that usually freeze-dry green leaves that simply fall on the first snow of the season. While I wouldn’t rake leaves typically, this usually isn’t even an option . . . until this year. I'm glad to have seen fall in its full glory out my picture window.

6 – My current bible verse brings me to the appreciation of others who give their talents to the Lord. From 1 Cor 1:4 “I give thanks to God always for you . . .” My missions group celebrated 8 birthdays this quarter and this became part of my birthday message to them. I also have many opportunities throughout the week to share God’s love with others, and this reminds me that I need to remember to appreciate the volunteer and those who make good use of their gifts and skill sets.

7 – Another important scripture for me this week was from Sunday’s lesson that I had an opportunity to share numerous times Mark 12:30-31 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’[a] 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] There is no commandment greater than these.”

Hope you’re all having a happy, joy-filled week!

Oct 15 158.0 (-.4 lbs, happy happy!)
Oct 22 157.8 (-.2 lbs, happy)
Oct 29 158.2 (+.4 lbs remaining below 161 goal)

Current Week Notes:
I’m actually okay with this light gain, because I know it doesn’t mean a gaining trend. I’m at a 22.7 BMI with lots of room to spare on either side of the equation. This week officially takes me out of the running for the Last Teddy Bear Standing. Being that I’ve been there done that -- two or three times already -- even this will not douse my joyful spirit.

What is it about a gain that psychologically hurts a good mood? Fortunately, it doesn’t keep me down for long. To be honest, I have enough lose skin that I already feel a bit like a “bag” lady with baggy skin on my arms, legs, and even my calves. Seems I’ve become related to the Shar Pei breed of dog. I had hoped I had lost my weight slow enough to try to get some of that bounce back in my step. So be it. That’s just another reason not to wait until you’re in your mid 50’s to begin losing weight.

In the CELEBRATE LIFE challenge, we’re encouraged to try something new:

1) I routed two 10K neighborhood fitness maps and walked them these last two days. I have found these to not be nearly as fun as the short walks and workouts at home, as people in their cars say the stupidest things from their moving vehicles while you’re walking on the sidewalk. Why is that? So I’ll probably revert back to my one or two mile walks or ten-minute marches throughout the day with the added strength training.

2) I created a new and delicious Pho (Chicken broth based Vietnamese Rice Noodle soup) recipe with lots of fresh veggies (mushrooms, purple onions, green onions, bean sprouts, red and green cabbage, red and yellow peppers, cilantro) while adding canned water chestnuts for a little added crunch.

3) My memory scripture for the month from is from the NIV:
- But the man who loves God is known by God.(1 Cor 8:3 NIV)
- But if anyone loves God, he is known by God.(1 Cor 8:3 ESV)
- But if one loves God truly [[a]with affectionate reverence, prompt obedience, and grateful recognition of His blessing], he is known by God [[b]recognized as worthy of His intimacy and love, and he is owned by Him]. (1 Cor 8:3 AMP)

4) My notes from Joyce Meyer and my Spark Friend‘s (SPARKYCARLEY’s) blog brought me back to SWEETLIPS’ first scripture reading from Jeremiah 29:11-12 -- For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. Her blog is at:

I think I did this wrong. I emailed Sweetlips my goals, but didn't post them, so thanks for letting me post these late:

1. List your goals
My weight goal is to lose 10 more pounds, whch will get me pretty much to my goal.
My fitness goal is to do 45 minutes MINIMUM of exercise each day.
Specific goal is to complete one 5K by the end of October
Cook at least one slow-cooker meal for dinner each week.
In addition, my personal goal is to get my office and dining room space FULLY organized by September 30th. (I will try to send you before and after shots for accountability purposes.)

2. Record weight, either in pounds lost or the actual number and measurements, actual or lost.
See above. I don't own a scale, but will weigh in today to make sure I know exactly what my start point is.
**Did this.

3. Try Something New
I will be on this for sure! Didn't do the cabbage with apples thing, but will try something new a LOT during this challenge!

4. For discussion, you might want to use the CELEBRATE YOUR LIFE CHALLENGE SCRIPTURE AND PRAYER thread.
I have added the original scripture you shared with us to my "signature line". I will be working the scriptures into my daily life, applying whenever I can and asking why God has me looking at this scripture at this time. No coincidences, is my belief!

Thanks Team! Let's go get um!! Here's to success for all and fund and sweet fellowship along the way!!

Met my first goal this morning of making it below 200 and weighed in @ 199.2 emoticon

My weigh ins are on the 15th and last day of each month. My longterm goal is to get to 135 and maintain somewhere between 130-135 lbs.

At my weigh in at the end of August, I was at 203.

My first goal is to get back to onederland and I'm considering anything below 200 onderland, as long as that number on the scale begins with a 1 instead of a 2, I'll probably break it jumping up and down on it!

My next goals will be below 190, below 180, below 170 and so on, until I reach my longterm goal.

My goal for this challenge:
We have 17 weeks. There are a couple of big holidays during this period.
We are told that it is safe to lose 1-2 pounds a week, so that is my goal. I hope to lose between 17-34 pounds during this challenge. I believe this team will keep me focused and on track.

I have regained so much weight, not handling stress and change as well as I would have liked. I know, gaining weight never helps, but just adds one more stress. I now weigh almost 60 pounds over my Spark starting weight, and am probably the biggest one here. Because I have many pounds to lose, my weight should go down faster than if I only had a few pounds to lose. I gain weight rapidly, and sometimes lose weight faster than others. I am not trying to lose more than the safe 1-2 pounds a week, but if it happens, please don't rain on my parade. I need encouragement and support, too. I am loosely following the Spark menus. I am not skipping any meals.

Current Week Notes:
Happy, Happy! It’s as if one more stick of butter just melted off. My BMI even went down a tenth as I’m now at 22.6. Seems I have lots of wiggle room in my BMI range. I’ve tried a few new things this week to celebrate life.

1) Routed my first neighborhood fitness map. Turned out to be 5.4K. Cool SparkPeople tool . . . but it missed a walking path across a canal, so I'm thinking it thought I took a swim or jet packed across! 8-))
2) Enjoyed some PB2 (powdered peanut butter) on top of a breakfast of fruit (banana and red grape halves) on 4 oz plain yogurt. The powder added both a delicious new taste and fun texture.
3) Am officially on holiday in a much warmer climate and loving the 8 to 9-hour sleeps. The one day I got seven hours of sleep, I found myself working in two naps . . . perhaps a sign of retirement. 8-))
4) Have worked diligently to both start and complete a prayer shawl for woman whose family is affected by breast cancer.
5) Feel blessed to write my first fly-write ticket. I was expecting much grief and was pleasantly surprised to get a flight in two weeks that only required the minimum 25,000 against my mileage. Happy, Happy!
6) Finally found a food store with fennel (but didn’t have my new recipe with me, so didn’t know what else I needed on hand to try it.

My official Weight Watcher weigh-in came in yesterday at 158.4 lbs. WooHoo! My goal to lose 100 lbs came true when I hit 161.2 lbs. Now, after six (actually eight) weeks of maintenance, I returned to my hometown Weight Watcher class to celebrate my new LIFETIME membership in Weight Watchers. In the process of getting healthy, I

1) love eating healthy,
2) enjoy eat lots of great freggies (fruits and veggies)
3) have a natural thirst and usually drink more than gallon of water (or zero calorie coffee or tea) a day
4) praise God for this new wonderful level of healthy I have come to enjoy.
5) spend quality time with God.

Now that said, my biggest challenge is wrapping my mindset around maintaining my goal weight. I still want to do the "due diligence" of maintaining the 1200-1550 calorie range that I've become so familiar with. My fear is that when I begin adding back the additional calories, I'll return to the emotional eating and overeating that brings me such a short-term and temporary joy. My first goal is to see what I need to do to reset my SP goals to show that I have reached my goals so the tracking system adjusts accordingly.

I weighed in at 165 lbs yesterday and I confess: I think it may have been taking off my watch at my Weight Watcher class that accounted for this .2 lb weight loss.

I have a goal to meet all seven of my monitored nutrients (protein, fat, carbohydrates, calories, fiber, sodium, and calcium) twice a week and yesterday was just one of those days! I also strive to meet at least four of these goals six days a week. Staying within my calorie range has been a regular until this last week, when I began eating more as if I'm in maintenance mode. This is not a bad thing, since I'm now within four pounds of my 100-lb weight loss goal, but it felt a little bad at the time I was doing it. The good news is that at least I found myself overeating on healthier choices. I'm beginning to understand why some people say the work begins at maintenance, but while you're going through the entire process, it all takes work and due diligence. I think the biggest challenge I will face is the fewer "good strokes" people offer as I keep the weight off.

Last evening was an exciting day for me. With major changes taking place at my former workplace, we saw a mass exodus of retirees at a farewell party yesterday. I saw everyone coming back to the tables with chicken wings and somewhat lack-luster pizza . . . so I stayed away from the food line. So many people hadn't seen me since I lost another 40+ lbs, so it was a delightful and uplifting-for-the-psyche day. My energy levels have never been higher and now I know I need to remain keep the focus and determined to stay the course as I continue the work (and yes, this will be work) to keep this weight off and lose my last four pounds. By the end of the evening, I noticed there was a beautiful veggie tray, so I enjoyed cauliflower, broccoli and carrots with a teaspoon of ranch dressing. This was, I still able to visit a friend and checkout a half cup of healthy fried rice and go out for a McD’s soft-serve cone.

I've learned the value of making goals that can be measures. Setting personal rewards also provide a little added incentive to the process.

I hope you're meeting your goals today!

While I was down 1.6 pound the week before last, I am down .6 lbs this week.

Every little bit (whether it be 6 sticks of butter or two) is pleasing to both me and my God! It's about time I treat God's temple with a little better respect!

In another couple months, I should be in full maintenance mode. WooHoo! I weigh in at my Weight Watcher class on Wednesday evening. If you set up a separate link, I'd be glad to update my stats.

Everyone has a ticker tracking the weight loss....For the mile challenge, I'm not sure how it is done but I know something can be set up so when people do a mile it tracks the team just not sure how this is done???

I hear you. Thanks, but every week is a bit too often for me. I'm doing too good to throw a monkey wrench in my journey and if I think I've had a great week and that scale doesn't agree I might go buy a hoagie LOL! I'll just sit this one out.

That's true, too. I'm more of an inches girl, too. I'm not built to be skinny and wouldn't wanna be. Hmm.. maybe we could do something for inches/measurements for people who didn't wanna do the scale? Id probably do that one myself. How's that sound?

One day a week weigh-ins make me shiver. I'm not a scale girl at all. I'm more of an inches chick. Those numbers play mind games with me and I would hate to get discouraged if I don't see the results I'm looking for. So whatever the team decides is fine; but my weigh-ins will be bit more spaced. Actually, my next weigh-in is 11/6 my 52nd birthday! emoticon

Hey! I was thinking that maybe it would be fun to have weighins one day a week. I could create an excel spreadsheet and everyone could see their progress. I could make it apart of the One Mile One Month Challenge. Like weighin on a specific thread that I create like every Friday or whatever? It's HUGE motivation and gives you something to really work for. I think it would be fun. What do you guys think?
