Evelyn is right. Because a cup of flour weighs different depending on how much it has settled or on how much it is aerated (sifted). That's why I like to do things by weight--much more precise. but with many things this isn't too much of a problem. You just do the best you can.
Hospitals are terrific for traumatic care; for acute care. They do a really, really good job in saving lives when it’s a sudden bleeding emergency. But in terms of chronic care, they’re terrible; in terms of the illnesses that most people have, endure, that cost the most money, that last the longest and ultimately die from. -Dr. Andrew Saul

This is based on estimates so all are approximates, remember you can't straight convert cups to grams. here are some conversions that might be helpful
would one of you be able to put the cups on these ingredients to grams for me if its ok with you 1 C.flaxseed ground 1 C whole wheat flour 1 C. Oat Bran 1 C. Brown sugar 2 tsp. Baking soda 1 tsp Baking Powder 1/2 tsp salt 2 tbsp. Cinnamon 1 1/2 C. shredded Carrots 2-3 Apples, cored and chopped up or shredded 1/2 C. Chopped nuts (optional) 1/2 c. Raisins (optional) 3/4 C. 2 % milk 2 Eggs, beaten 1 tsp. Vanilla

Exactly - when I Google it I know it's approximate since its not a straight conversion. I have done it a bit and it's always worked out. Recipes are suggestions anyway - nothing needs to be exact, unless you are baking.
The conversion compares weight to weight, or volume to volume just in different numerical systems. We are looking for equivalents of weight to volume. Measuring ingredients by weight is much more exact and consistent.

But I think what is needed here is not "conversion" because a cup of chopped pickles would not weigh the same as a cup of flour or a cup of water. You have to go by the ingredient itself. I do think there are websites that list many common ingredients in their cup to grams (or tablespoon, teaspoon to grams)

Try this website. It has formulas for all sorts of measurements..

Spark has conversion tools. I usually enter into Google: 1/4 cup = grams (or whatever it is I am trying to convert) and will get answers. although it's volume to weight not an exact equivalent you can get an idea of how to sub.
If you need to make something right now just post back with the ingredients and amounts you need and I will scoop them up (in my American measuring cup) and weigh them to give you the grams. I'd be glad to do it -annie
