OK. So, I buy RAW milk for $10/gallon. And I WAS buying organic butter for $8/pound. (butter lasts me a LONG time!)
Anyhow, today I made sweet butter from the cream on my raw, organic milk. WOW! Cool! Tastes NUMMY!
I got about 9 oz of butter and 1/2 litre of buttermilk out of my litre of cream.
So, for $10 I get 3 litres of organic raw milk, 1/2 pound organic butter, and 1/2 litre of buttermilk.
Next week, I will make icecream instead of butter.
It took me about 45 minutes to hand crank into butter, paddle the liquid out and wash with icewater, and add a bit of sea salt. Lots of fun too!
