This machine worked great, up until the end of the butter making process. The paddle needs to be a little wider. I had to finish the process with my hand mixer. The cream, after it gets whipped so stiff, goes to the outside edges of thge jar, and so the paddle no longer reaches the cream. If the paddle was a little wider that would have worked great. Alternatively, if I had had more cream. Twice as much cream, it may have also worked better. But, I only have 1 litre of cream a week. So...
Anyhow, the butter was great. It will easily last me two weeks. I lightly salted it with SEA SALT!
OK. So, I buy RAW milk for $10/gallon. And I WAS buying organic butter for $8/pound. (butter lasts me a LONG time!) Anyhow, today I made sweet butter from the cream on my raw, organic milk. WOW! Cool! Tastes NUMMY! I got about 9 oz of butter and 1/2 litre of buttermilk out of my litre of cream.
So, for $10 I get 3 litres of organic raw milk, 1/2 pound organic butter, and 1/2 litre of buttermilk. Next week, I will make icecream instead of butter.
It took me about 45 minutes to hand crank into butter, paddle the liquid out and wash with icewater, and add a bit of sea salt. Lots of fun too!
