Which stretch? I do several I found on spark.
We made the Enchilada Casserole and we loved it, although there was a lot of preparation time. We did make a few changes like adding 8 ounces of ground turkey and using Mrs Dash instead of all the spices and garlic. but mostly my make over is the same as the original.
Lynn did you try anything new?

Lol! Thanks Cerebellum anyway! There are a lot of videos on You tube from Spark so it will probably stay a mystery then unless you use it again and remember to get the name and/or link to it.
Looking forward to next Wednesday already. We have a new recipe to try. DH has decided to make Wednesdays this month our try a new recipe day so a little family fun there.

I know Carolyn is on vacation so hopefully she'll be back with us soon.

Lynn how is your knee doing now? Have you been able to try on your recumbent bike again? I am sort of wondering if I could do that with Osteoarthritis. Knees are a problem for me although I have lost about 106 lbs in the last three years so it might be easier now. I was looking back at that WATP the other day and wondering if I could keep up with it. I can't stand for long though so maybe I will look for something in a chair to try.

Wow! Cerebellum that's a lot of new tries! emoticon I have never tried plain yogurt with just eating it, I like the fruit flavored ones too. I use it alot for salad dressings though because you can pop something in to flavor it and its more nutritious that sour cream ranch style dressings or even mayonnaise in some cases. You can try a teaspoon of something like Simply Fruit or 2 tsp of Apple Juice or Pineapple juice for other flavorings too. How did the arm and back videos work out for you? Did they feel good to be able to do? I'd like the link or title of the back video myself if you would please.
Lynn its good that you were well enough to do the whole video. I didn't realize you were having dizzy spells hon! What' s up with that? I switch what videos I'm doing often too because its a good way to surprise your system and jumpstart it's fat burning mechanism. If you find yourself in a rut your body also gets where it expects what you do and doesn't burn it off as effectively. emoticon going!

I started reading a new book that has me thinking about the way I approach things and my type of thinking about it. I am slowly reading up on isolating those things I was either taught to think about situations that were wrong or warped or that I have developed into habitual thinking over the years and re training that way of thinking to a more healthy one. The book is called "The Antidote: Happiness for people who can't stand Positive Thinking" While it supports the school of thought of old style Stoicism, which I don't entirely agree with it also is a great book to get you thinking about what your are thinking about things and how you approach and respond to events in your life. I am finding the book to be quite helpful that way, though I don't espouse a lot of their life philosophy.

I tried the Mr Fitness video from my last post - it's a nice change from my seated pilates DVD - a couple of new moves using dumbells. At one part he switches to standing exercises, some of them you could do seated but I'm not sure about all of them. I wasn't too dizzy today so I did the whole thing (about 20 minutes).

Last week I did some new arm videos, but couldn't find place to post it. This week I did a new back video, and tried cinnamon on plain yogurt. Bought plain by mistake, and didn't have any fruit to put on it, so tried cinnamon. Fruit would ave been better, but cinnamon was good too.

Cerebellum that is great!! Arm exercises always are good to extend the exercise you do. Maybe next week you can find some lower body exercise to work with those.

Lynn sounds like you had fun with the desk workout. It always surprises me when I start an exercise and my left stump leg is weaker than my right leg. I should be used to it and know to work it harder to get it in stronger shape, but it catches me by surprise sometimes. Just take care of your knee and be sure you aren't hurting it with the exercise you do. There are many more both here on SP and on the Chair Exercise You Tube Channel, so you can find lots of seated work outs/exercises to replace it if its too much strain. Seated work outs are great for getting in the exercise you normally wouldn't have the mobility for. Many of the standing exercises SP has state that you can also do them seated.

I over trained and injured my shoulder so I couldn't do the toning video, but I did spend my exercise time finding more videos to try for next week. I found two standing toning/strength exercises for my lower body, stretches and another Paul Eugene chair aerobics work out that uses a lot of seated jumping jacks which I love to do. Looking forward to when I can try them.
DH and I tried an asian style salad recipe with an apple and a pear in it and "broccoli slaw" which is a Dole product made from broccoli stalks grated up like cabbage along with a bit of grated carrot and red cabbage. It called for Asian pears which taste like an apple and a pear together and are called Apple Pears sometimes. We couldn't find them anywhere here so I used an apple and a pear to substitute. Wow was it good. I didn't like the dressing they had so I made my own with plain yogurt, apple juice and chopped dates and the whole thing was lovely. You can find the original recipe on the Dole Website: Asian Pear and Toasted Walnut Salad

I tried the seated desk workout - it has a few 'new' exercises that I think I'll keep using in conjunction with my seated pilates dvd. It covers upper, core and lower strengthening, so not dedicated to just one area. I was surprised by one of the leg exercises - my right leg couldn't do it as wall as my left - maybe my knee was not liking it (I had it wrapped just in case).

I appreciated that it was truly a seated workout - no standing at all. Good to use as alternative to the one I usually do.

It is yummy too Lynn! We ate two servings a piece and were full and still under our dinner meal allotment for calories sodium etc.
Sounds like a good plan Rosamacelle, callouses are not fun to deal with. Especially if they crack.

Well gang it's TRY IT WEDNESDAY! Cerebellum don't forget to read your note.
I'm looking forward to that toning video! Still haven't found a good crockpot recipe though will keep looking and try it on a Wednesday after I find it. Anybody have a good vegetarian meatless meal for the slow cooker? Preferable with eggplant in it as I have become really fond of it lately.

Last week was a complete write-off for me - virtually no exercise - I forced myself to get a few minutes of marching in place each day but the heat was so bad!

I just found a video here on SP that I haven't tried yet so I'll hold onto it til Wednesday.

Wow what a quiet week! No takers this week? Okay well Next Wednesday is Coming in two days. Have you thought about what to Try?

Last week DH and tried a baked Eggplant and Zuccini with cheese casserole. Was it yummy! And just as filling as a meatless meal. The need for cutting down on Red Meats, Mediterranean Style is causing me to find some great vegetarian replacements.

This week I am trying out a new toning video from Chair Dancing and trying my first slow Cooker recipe with my new crockpot. What's going to be new for you?

Wow lots going on today! Lynn and Cerebellum do them and tell how they were on here anyway!
Hmmm a cold soup for summer with cucumbers. Sounds just right! Can you link us or post us the recipe Pounds away? Best of luck with keeping to your eating plan on your trip.
Rosemarcelle skipping rope takes the ability to jump and stand the jar at the end I don't have anymore so I hope that it was fun for you but my hat is off if you can do high impact aerobics like that! They really burn the calories!
Carolyn thanks for the links, I will have a look to them. There is a seated SP arm workout for 9 minutes with Coach Nicole that will build up your arms with out all that unnecessary pain. You can do it just with your own body weight or a small dumbell or heavier ones when you are ready. I do them twice a day three days a week and use soup cans for now. if your arms need building up to the pushups that might be a good start. Btw the wall pushups are easier on the feet and get you in the up position easier, but if your legs are far enough away from the wall you are still building arm stregth in your up position which you can hold. You can also do it leaning with your arms on a counter top and leaning your body into it so that when your arms are fully extended you are still taking the weight on your arms and building muscle.

Today I did some new strength exercises in my routine that worked on my gluts and shoudlers and arms as well as thighs. There were four of them , Side lunges with Steps, Wall Pushups, Arm Circles and raising arms behind you with soup cans, Hip Flexors with extention. Non of these were seated but they really did a good work on the focused on muscles. I also tried a chair yoga routine that is very basic and works more on stretching and controlling your breathing than the hard poses. I loosened tension and joints range in my shoulders I had no idea were there. Its called Chair Flow Yoga
www.youtube.com/watch?v=MyADjRclVPo
Its a long but gentle video. I couldn't finish it all but I am going back when I am not already tired from an hour of cardio to try it all the way thru. I liked the 20 minutes of it I did.

Today I tried meditation. It's supposed to be a good relaxation technique and is thought to help with many medical conditions, especially stress related ones. Here's a link to a Mayo Clinic article about it:

Today I got derailed - I have a "new" Walk Away the Pounds video to open up but I ended up doing stuff around the house (vacuuming and floor washing) and got so overheated I had to stop (never do housework at noon on a hot day, duh!). Going to talk hubby into going for a short walk tonight (it's a little cooler now). So I'll have to try my new video tomorrow.

I don't remember the name of the video, but it was one of the ones that you access from the team picture. I think tomorrow I will try wall push-ups. I can get down on the floor and do them, but have a hard time getting down and up. I want to try and keep my arms strong, so I can pull myself around!

Kacey - I don't do push-ups. I couldn't push myself up once I got down, I've tried but my arms aren't strong enough. The point of the exercise isn't to do push-up's but to just hold yourself in the "up" position for as long as possible to help strengthen your arms. You can do it with your knees on the floor instead of your feet if you need to (what they used to call "girl push-ups"). You're right about my foot, I can't bend my toes and support my weight without quite a bit of pain.

Hi Everyone! emoticon Looks like you had a great Wednesday last week, sorry I missed it as I was down really ill.
TOMORROW IS TRY IT WEDNESDAY! What will you try this Wednesday?

Pounds Away how is it going with that foot. There are some very good low impact chair cardio dancing videos that will burn many calories without you having to be on your foot. Two of my favorites are by Paul Eugene:
The Turbo Chair Workout:

Carolyn I can't imagine being able to get down to the floor and do push ups with that bad foot you have. Have you tried Wall push ups? You stand back a foot or so from a wall and put your arms on the wall and bring your body down to the wall then push away from the wall until you are essentially in the same position as you would be on the floor but standing so there is the same pressure to build your arm strength with out a curled up foot and all the pressure with that. Just hold it as you would the floor exercise instead of doing up and down and up and down. Although that may be a way to build that upper arm strength. Heres the demo on Spark:

Rosemarcelle is Skipping what we did as children or an exercise I'm not familiar with? And how did it go?

Lynn I love the recipe! Thanks for the link. I hope you didn't overdo it lifting the bricks and that they stayed in place. Do they maybe need some cement between them to re cement them in place?

Cerubellum What video was it? Did you like it? Could you share the link with us if it's online or the name of the video if not. Its great that you tried something new!

today I'm not doing workouts but I am doing lots of odd jobs. I just finished *trying* to lift and replace several bricks in the pathway between the house and the backyard. Whoever built this house made the driveway slope toward the house, rather than away from it so whenever it rains the runoff heads to our outside steps. The bricks have become uneven. So I dug them out and lifted them and put some sand underneath and put them back down. They're not completely level but they're better than they were. We'll see after it rains a few times whether they hold or just sink back to where they were.

I also swept the driveway and cleared a path in one section of the garage (hubby's side) so the roofers can find a place to plug their tools in.

Washed some walls, scrubbed the shower (that counts as getting down on my knees! I hate that job!) got some laundry going.

Probably enough for today, have to go to town to get groceries tonight so I need to budget some strength for that.

Last night I tried a new recipe - it was better than it looked, LOL! Even hubby liked it so it's a keeper. 17 Day Diet Chicken Vegetable Soup: recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-detai

Today is Wednesday! Hooray, I remembered emoticon One of the problems with being retired is not knowing what day it is most of the time. It's pretty embarrassing when you tell the grocery clerk to have a nice weekend and, after she's given you a strange look you figure out that it's only Tuesday emoticon

I just read a challenge on another of my teams to get on the floor (could be a problem for me, or rather getting up could be a problem) and hold yourself in the push-up position with your arms extended for as long as you can. It helps to strengthen your arms and you don't have to actually DO a push-up. I think I'll try that today emoticon

Update: OK, I guess my arm strength isn't very good, I wasn't even able to hold it for a full minute. Something to work up from though.

I have spurs in my foot and OA too. With the help of my Dr., we are trying to find the right support so my foot will have less pain. Dr. said that for every 10 lbs. I lose, I will take 15 lbs. of stress off my foot, so I am working on that.

That's great Pounds Away but be careful not to push too hard. I don't know what is wrong with your foot but pushing to the point of injury and pain is a way to sideine yourself for long enough you can lose ground you have painfully worked your way to. Good for trying it though,

thats cool! Strength adds a lot of depth to your workout and burns calories for a lot longer than just when you workout. And it builds muscles that replace the fat in places like the older age flap we get under our arms and helps protect our joints from having too much strain on them. By the way how is the bike riding going? Have you got the new seat yet?

Still waiting in for the second compost bin to be delivered. No sign of it yesterday and was told it was delivered yesterday and I had refused it because it was damaged! Chance would be a fine thing - I waited in all day for it to arrive. Now they have promised delivery before 12 tomorrow. It's frustrating because I want to be out in the garden digging. I have managed to get exercise in during the evening though.

Learned to do the Macarena Dance today!

Lynn what I do is to go through a video to learn each step and how many reps of each, I write that down. Then I find my own pace after I've learned the steps and my own music. The Chair Exercise Channel on You Tube has a work out music Vid. You have to click the team logo picture to find the CEChannel and it should be listed on the playlists when you click the logo. Of course if you do the video on spark there is a calories burned button right under it and if you click it it automatically enters it into your Fitness Tracker. There is also a button for getting points every time you do it. Then you can go to the fitness tracker and find out how many minutes and how many calories burned so you can enter it on your tracker without using the video anymore.

I tried a "new" cardio video here on SP. It was OK - I hated the music, the instructor kept saying things like "I love this song! I know it makes you want to shout!
Well, I wanted to shout but not in the way she meant it.

I guess if I did it enough I could figure it out, but it changed steps too fast and I'm a klutz to begin with so half the time I was just walking. Probably won't do it again. Put on Leslie/WATP to do another mile.

Yeah its pretty cool the way SP provides you with so many good tools. I'm looking at their videos for sale to see if they have any of the seated vids that I use. Would like to get them on DVD because they don't always run right on my computer.

Well i hope you can remember, or maybe something else will occur by tomorrow. I am working on an idea too. Theres a toning video I am going to look at to see what it involves so I may do that. Or I may see how long I can walk and rest and walk and rest outside for the first time in about 8 years to see how far I go until I get too tired. Something like that.

I know I am going to see if CEteam you tube channel has any thing on it and yoga seated. Maybe I'll find a new vid to try for Wednesday next week.

I love the Chair pilates DVD - I got it from Amazon tinyurl.com/nuvj2z5 that's Canadian amazon but it's probably available elsewhere

I wrote a blog about it a while ago www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_jo
ur
nal_individual.asp?blog_id=5357316

It's basically just using a resistance band while seated, about 20 minutes long. Works arms, abs and legs. Very easy but effective too. I do it at least twice a week.

Last Wednesday my Try-It idea was to sign up for the Fitbit trainer free trial. My week's up today. There's a few more charts that you get to track your progress. They're pretty but I can get the same info from SP if I look for it.

The training part seems to just be incremental changes to your "calories burned" goal - so lately I've been burning about 480 cal daily from exercise - the trainer would want me to increase that by 40 cal each week for 12 weeks. I can track that on my own, I probably won't pay to have a pretty chart.

Tomorrow is another Wednesday - I had something in mind to try but I didn't write it down so hopefully I can remember by the morning!

Hi All sorry I was gone. Recovering from surgery then my computer fritzed out. But am back with it now. You got in some great Try Its!!

Lynn there is a Chair Pilates DVD? What's it called and where did you get it from??

Sandra thanks for stepping in while I was out of the picture

Cerebellum what new exercise did you try? Writing a note and sticking it on your computer is a good idea. So is writing down what the new thing is you want to buy at the store, as soon as you think of it.

PoundsAway57 those Hawaiian Grilled Pineapple Shrimp Kebabs really sound tasty. How did they turn out? Do you want to share the recipe or a link to it if its online?

My new stuff was reading two new diabetes, insulin and exercise books, and trying a new Chicken Cabbage Stirfry That was amazingly good! This was a recipe on Spark People which I did a Makeover with less sodium and cut down the celery so less fiber which I can't have too much of, also used Canola oil as I hate the taste of olive oil in my food. That Makeover is

I can't find the original recipe now but I know this one sure was tasty and easy to make

Yesterday was TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibility) T-shirt day. Our Tops chapter met at the mall and walked, each wearing a Tops t-shirt. I walked 2 times around the mall and that was an accomplishment for me since I have my right foot with spurs and OA. Each little bit of exercise helps.
