I read every free time that I have. Usually reading 2 books, one on my Kindle and one library book. I also do the sudoku puzzle in the newspaper every day. Also play word games on my I-pad like bookworm and words with friends.

I should also mention this - I am home schooling my daughter who has learning disabilities, so I get to do a lot of learning and relearning there. She has memory retention issues among other things and we are repeating grades 3-5 again and she is now 148. She's never gotten above grade 7.

ASL is American Sign Language. Being deaf, I can't hear when people talk to me, to I am learning a new language and hoping my family learns as well. I already go to a Deaf church and sometimes get to the Deaf club.

Knitting in and of itself is a mental challenge. As you progress, it takes more and more mind-power to count, keep track of pattern, stitches etcl emoticon Puzzles and games are also a good thing! emoticon
Why not set a start date and make it a goal to learn ASL. You will benefit in many ways.

I am learning a new technique with knitting for me. I also do Sudoku puzzles and aim for at least 10 a day. I also play a lot of hidden object games.

One thing I really need to work on is learning ASL as I am totally deaf and can't hear a thing.

I also read read read... also do Sudoku....love word puzzles.... EVERY DAY!!
I'm on the computer daily looking up information for all sorts of things.... I am very interested about learning what this world has in store for me in my lifetime....
I'm soon to be 65 years young. I plan on meeting my goal by May 2013 in my journey to a healthy me!! I work my mind constantly, because I know my mind is what makes my body move.... and heaven knows I need to learn to move more and more every day....

I agree. When these activities are a part of our day we usually don't keep track. However, when creating a new practice, or planning time management which includes healthy living, it is a worthwhile endeavor. Balance in all things. emoticon emoticon

It varies quite a bit by the day; some days, a few hours of my day, total are spent on these activities, and other days, I never do get to them. I don't keep track of my time, but I quite often think I should.

Hi, I try to do some soduko and some word search every day. I quite often do logic puzzles, too. I am on the computer every day and try to learn what I can that way, as well as some computer games.

I think all these kinds of things we do are helpful. Learning something new is good, as others have mentioned. Thanks for bringing us this!!

Hi to each and every team member.
I think it is important for you to be aware of a few facts about this challenge. Having a healthy mind, is key to our general well-being. The mind-body connection is extremely strong.
Just like any other exercise you do a certain amount of time spent is required to obtain the most benefit. 15-40 minutes is recommended. For easier tracking I have used the Spark Exercise guidelines as the literature refers it to physical exercise. This means at least 10 minutes gradually increasing to 30 minutes daily. More is even better if it does not interfere with other daily activities. emoticon
Practice this, and see what happens! emoticon
Best wishes,
Teresa

KASEYCOFF emoticon ,
It definitely is never to late to return to school. Research has proved that continuing to expand the mind will actually increase it rebuilding neurological pathways in our brain. Older individuals actually show a greater increase. It is also one prevention factor of alzehiemer's disease. Returning to school would benefit in many healthy ways.

Best wishes as you continue to pursue your many interests. Don't overwhelm yourself, keep active in all ways and you will remain healthier and happier as you continue your chosen path.

: EARTHSMILE - emoticon on nearing the completion of your degree. That is a major accomplishment! Teachers stretch their minds and imaginations constantly.
Word games are excellent challenges in addition to learning from others.
It appears you are academic at heart and will likely have a lively and active mind throughout life.

Although some take every opportunity to expand themselves, it is more difficult for others.
Best wishes as you continue to work on your chosen life goals.

KASEYCOFF, Working number puzzles such as sudoku etc. is an excellent way to stretch the mind, and make it work! emoticon How much time do you spend? Do you work until completion?
You have some great ideas. Learning a foreign language. or learning to play the piano are also good ways to keep your brain active. Taking on anything new or challenging will keep the mind
sharp.
Classes last around an hour.
My suggestion would be to work the mind as you would the body. As Spark Guy advocates
small steps lead to larger ones. Set your goal for at least 30 minutes total. Try for a minimum of ten minutes initially. Often the task becomes absorbing time passes emoticon
You are doing a good job of keeping the mind healthy! emoticon

I try to do (at least!) one number puzzle each day. Whether it's a sudoku-style grid or a more complex problem, I think they keep my brain nimble.

It has occurred to me recently that working on learning a foreign language or even taking piano lessons might be a good brain exercise--?
