I try to get mine done within 12 minutes on the treadmill, 30 seconds all out, 1-2 minutes walking.

Hey Scott, you don't burn a lot of calories during, but you do after.

Hi guys. This was my first day with the HIIT. I elected to do it on a bicycle. I did the 5 minute warm up, 5 minute cool down, and 6 sets in between (30m second all out, 1.5 minute walk). According to my heart monitor, I burned about 193 calories. I expected to burn more but my legs are FEELING IT! Did I do something wrong or does this sound about right?

Sorry to hear that you are stuck with a UTI. I know they can be painful. I did about 5 min of hit today, but I normally average more than that a work out. I love to get my heart pumpin. I try and stay in the 140's to 150's.....bpm.

Hey Bridget!

I think you're right, you should move on to the more advanced challenge if you feel like you can hold your HIIT in the +20mins/session range.

As for how I'm doing, not so good, I have an UTI that's keeping me off my cardio and I can't wait to start working out again!! I will be on meds for a week, 2 days down so far, 5 more to go, yeah!

OOPS! I just recalculated this and I think I had it wrong, I think it would be a 4 minute mile which would have you sprinting at 15 mph. Does that sound correct?

Hi ladies,
I've been doing HIIT for about 3 weeks on my treadmill. I go for 30 minutes (walking @ 4.0 mph 2 minutes then jogging @ 5.5 mph 1 minute) and this includes 5 min warmup and 5 minute cool down. I keep reading how much this will help shed fat and in a shorter amount of workout time. I have a question though about some information I found on a bodybuilder website about HIIT training. He is saying that your 30 second sprints should be equal to 1/2 way around a 1/4 mile track. Now if I am calculating correctly this would mean that you would be doing a 2 minute mile and that would mean you would be sprinting at 30 mph!!!!!!!
If any of you ladies could check out my calculations and let me know if I'm figuring correctly or not. That just seems impossible, but maybe I'm not familiar with how fast a sprint can be. I think what I'm doing is within the guidelines of everything I'm reading about HIIT, so hopefully I'm going to see some results soon.

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas. I am back from vacation and read to hiit. I went to the gym today and did 10 min hiit total. I was so excited, dont get me wrong....it was hard. I have not exercised in a few weeks due to my vacation and the holidays. Hope everyone is doing well.

I suppose I'm in, but it really isn't fair; I'm just going to my brother's for sandwiches, so I think I'm safe from the usual Christmas fare!

Lately, we've focused on getting Imp back on the healthy stuff; he's had BIG salads for dinner TWICE this week. There's something hilarious about a scruffy construction worker eating salad...

Anyway, I got a respectable five minutes on Wednesday. Hopefully, I'll be back to ten minutes total this week. I keep exhausting my body on aerobic exercise, and I keep neglecting my ST. Starting January First, I'll be tracking things on a BIG calender that will help me remember. In the mean time, I'm still trying to acclimate to the treadmill.

*shrug* Any ideas on why this transition has been so brutal? I swear the DP Gerbilator 3000 is out to kill me!

Hey guys, I would to start a mini challenge for this holiday season week... Let me know if you're in, it would go like this:

**Holiday mini challenge**
Goal:To NOT gain during the holidays... just to take the edge off of this food fest we call holiday season.

The challenge would be to either stay the same or lose a bit but don't lose at our regular pace...just keep your weight the same.

How?
For that I propose we workout during special days such as Christmas, New Year's Eve, New Year's and any other day you're willing to do the effort. We could come up with creative ways to workout, since we're having family over we can ask them to join us for a walk/swim/run/dvd workout and so on. Are you guys in??

Hope Ya Feelin' Better! It stinks when a couch potato is tired; I'm certain that it's worse when you are usually active!

I HIIT for eight mins total this week in three different workouts. Not setting the world on fire, but not sitting on my bum, either.

Dec 13th hiit 9 min
I stretched before my work out, did a 5 min warm up at 5 res on the eliptical machine then would do one min at 5 and go from 6 to 9 with 5 in between each set and then followed it by a cool down of going backwards for 5 min.

Hi Bridget! It's good to have another HIITer on this challenge! Beware, that kind of excitement is contagious... *wink*

I only got four minutes this week. The treadmill is kicking my tushie! My legs cramped; my legs never cramp. My lungs give out, but never my legs!

Trail running always seemed a little dangerous for HIIT, but now I'm wondering if I'll ever get used to the even, steady flow of the treadmill. I'll just keep at it until it becomes easy.

And, I will be able to get in more than one HIIT per week soon. YAY! Only one more week of painting this year! I'm so happy that the winter lay-off is finally here. (As you may recall, I was ecstatic when the winter lay-off FINALLY ended this spring!)

Bridget, I'm glad your loving HIIT, it sure is a great form of exercise!!

Forgot to mention that I HIITed today, went for a walk/run to the tracks and it was great! I enjoyed it very much to run for a bit as I don't usually do it :). I walked for 80 mins and ran for 10, yeah!

I didnt stretch...I was stretched for time like always. I did do 45min of hiit today and managed to get 9 in .... yea! My total is now.....18 for this week...I love this hiit thing. My hubby gave me his old ipod so today I went crazy on that elliptical machine..

Bridget great job on your 2nd HIIT, did you feel a difference in regards of stretching??

I HIITed today for 50 minutes (10 HIIT). I made it to this week's goal, woohoo!!

Kay getting a little confused. I dont know if I did this hiit thing right. I did my cardio last night 38 min, 5min warm-up, 5 min cool down, 20 min of hiit. I would alternate on the Elliptical machine 2min at 7 intensity and 1 at 9. I ended up with 6 min at 9. Is this right or should I be doing it different??
Was going to do the 40 min hiit but at this rate I dont think I can hang.

Hey Michelle, I'm sorry to hear about your tummy acting up again :( I hope you feel better soon, you did lose a ton of weight.. I remember your goal being somewhere in the lower 130's. Who would think that we would be talking about gaining weight!!

Niniva, glad to know you're doing better now. Indeed there are lots of things that can trigger depression and hypothyroidism at the same time... Be sure to check in with your doc when in doubt.

I forgot to mention that I HIIT on Saturday. I went for a 60 mins walk/run; I HIITed for 20 mins! It's been a long time since I ran but it felt great.

Sorry to hear about ya tummy; I'm sure you'll be going strong again soon!

I've been getting up a full list of ruleouts, and when I'm done, I'll set up an appointment. Of course, my TSH is still in the high normal range. There are so many things that act like depression or hypothyroidism that I want to be sure we look for several instead of just Hirosh!to's. (Hehe, that triggered the profanity screener...)

Hey! Glad everyone is still working out. My stomach has been on the fritz lately and I can't work out the way I like(no HIIT) because I've lost too much weight and I am trying to see if I can gain some back before I start back with exercising.

After almost two weeks of being too distracted to do anything, I picked up a used treadmill for the winter. My first workout wasn't great, but it exists! I got the right NUMBER of intervals, but they were all over the place on speed and time. I'm sure next week will be right, though.

Well, I got the same 10 mins, but I got my heartrate higher, 50 cals more than last week.

I put some thyroid notes in my blog that I'm taking to my Dr. on Tuesday. Any comments are welcome!
