Thanks SOM... great ideas! And btw, I loooove Panera's black bean soup! I will treat myself to an occasional healthy restaurant meal, but it can get costly. I am trying to avoid that.

Goddess, Leftovers would ideally be my first choice... but microwaves don't carry well in the ride.

ChiMel, I found that bread. Thanks girl!

I do not like fast food. I try to pack as much as possible. When packing isn't an option I try to find Quiznos or Subway and get lean turkey and whole wheat bread. I love Chipotle but I only get a little rice, black beans, tomato salsa, and lettuce with a little side of guac. Panera has a few good options. They have a cafe turkey (no mayo no cheese duh) and their black bean soup is very low fat. There ch & noodle is low fat but I think it is high in salt so moderation or watch your salt that day. If I am really really in a hurry I like Wendy's baked potato with a little salt and pepper and a go wrap with no sauce. Also, tons of grocery stores now have a little sushi station. I grab a california roll or salmon roll (watch the spicy sauces they are mayo) and a sugar free tea. Awesome!

Hopefully that adds some variety because a cooler in your car is going to get old sometimes.

Flat-Out is the name of the brand. Found in the bread section, kinda by the pita and such. They have a few different varieties. I find them less messy too.

I am loving the Flat-Out Wraps for sandwiches. Only 100cal, fiber, healhty fats, and super yummy. I have made veggie sandwiches, pb&j, Turkey role ups, etc... They also work with hummus as a healthier pita type option. Or you can bake them and make them into super healthy pita chips.

Also I always keep a water bottle and some fiber one or protein bar of some kind stashed everywhere. (back pack, locker, purse etc..) That way I always have something nearby that is good and won't spoil quickly. So it can just sit there until the day I forget to bring a snack.

Welcome to the team and good luck. You can do things like salads, fresh veggies and fruit. I eat at my desk all the time and make sure I have whole wheat crackers, do wraps, salads, things that I can get at easily. Wish you the best.

M&G, I've never tried to make a spring roll... even though I've seen the recipes time and time again... Perhaps this will be a little project.

Shannon, yep that's the plan. Do you have any meal ideas to share?

Hi there again, If you start nipping into fast food places or drive thur,s thats when you will see the pounds being put on and not coming of, Try making your own packed lunch of healthy foods while your in the office and fresh fruit for if you feel a snack coming on in the car, Well good luck.x

Not sure if you like spring rolls but that may be an option if you do.

No, not while driving. I will spend time in offices, but I will travel. I meant things that carry well. But grapes or pre-cut strawberries would be kinda easy to eat IN the car, now that we're discussing it. I mostly meant having something with me (being prepared) vs. stoppin in a drive-thru for something completely bad for me. Thanks for the feedback, tho!

M&G, yeah, I was thinking I could always pack an empty thermometer for ... you know, whatever. lol

Msaunatural, You are welcome! I did want to mention that we found a shorter thermos for my dh to use during the winter. If you fill it with hot water and let it sit for just a few minutes then pour hot soup or something in it, it stays really hot all day.

Will you literally be eating in the car? That's a bummer - first, it's distracting if you're driving at the same time, and second, at least if it were me, I'd get stuff all over myself...the hard-boiled eggs sound safe but everything else sounds messy!

And, and this is my opinion of course, I think eating in the car is one of the worst food habits a person can have. I have enough eating issues when I'm NOT in a car so I figure if I started doing that, too, I'd be a complete goner...

Shannon thank you for the overseas welcome!

M&G, THANKS! Those are greeeat ideas. You're right it will be very difficult to heat things up so foods best served cold are ideal and what I am aiming for. You gave me some menu ideas that I hadn't thought about: boiled eggs for quick, easy on-the-go protein bites. Whole wheat pitas/crackers.. love hummus.. yet didn't think of that.

Thanks a bunch...

By all means keep the ideas coming. :)

Fresh and prepared fruits and vegetables, boiled eggs, whole wheat crackers and cheese, hummus or bean dip, lettuce wraps, salads (taco, chicken, tossed greens...), granola, fresh salsa (we take this with home made pita chips but is great over a salad too). If you grill chicken for dinner one night, make an extra piece for lunch the next day. You can eat the chicken as a sandwich or cut and put in your favorite type of salad. It's hard when you travel if you have no way to heat things up. My dh is on the road a lot. If we come up with other ideas, I'll let ya know. Best wishes!

I've started a new job and once I'm done with my training I'm pretty much on my own setting my schedule and planning my days..

My question is directed to other people who might travel a lot. I will be on the road (in my car mostly, sometimes a plane) a lot. I gather I will carry a cooler in my car of my day's foods and snacks?...

Ideas for eating healthy on the road? Or menu ideas that keep well in this type of atmosphere? Ideas that won't bore me to tears? lol

I know I am asking a lot for a newbie to the group. haha.. I'm an overachiever. :)

Any help or advice will be much appreciated. I definitely want to make this work for me, and not against me. I've heard horror stories of people who travel a lot packing on the pounds... I won't be one of them.
