I shoot for nine glasses of water a day. I usually make 7 pretty easy. The last two are hard cause they tend to get me up and down in the night to go potty. LOL, potty. I drink 2 cups when I first get up in the am.

Well, as for water I am doing fine. I always get at least 9 per 24 hour day. I make sure to drink enough to keep my ileostomy going right!

Maintaining.

ACTUALLY I THINK THAT I AM SETTING MY BAR A LITTLE BIT HIGH, BUT I CAN TRY. THAT IS PRETTY MUCH ALL ANY OF US CAN DO IS TRY THE BEST THAT WE CAN.

BOY, AM I SUFFERING TODAY FROM THAT TRIP TO WAL--MART YESTERDAY. LOWER BACK & ANKLE HURTING, AND I AM EXHAUSTED! DID NOT GET NEARLY ENOUGH SLEEP LAST NIGHT. OH, HOW I HATE FIBROMYALGEA & CHRONIC FATIGUE!!

YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY TODAY.......ALL OF MY FRIENDS.

Starr- I'm going for 3 this week and am going to work up! LOL. I've worked on 8 a day before and I feel like I am floating away! I can't drink water in the morning- it makes me nauseous- so trying to fit it in all in the afternoon is tough. So I figure I'm going to start out easy. I normally drink 1-2 a day- so I'm going to start with one more than normal and work from there... :)

OK gals. How's it going? Don't forget to post/track whatever you need to daily. I'm getting stronger at my steps already. I can do 8x in a row up/down. A few days ago the most I could do was 7x. emoticon

Nellie- good for you- Keep dancing when you can!

How is everyone doing with their challenges this week? Just remember- take it in "baby steps" and we'll build from there.

Just a couple more days I'll add something new, another "easy-peesy"...

I am getting the motivation finally. It took me awhile but now I have my determination back again. So I've been doing my steps. :)

Hi there all my precious friends.

I hope that all is well today.

Carol, I trust that your mom slept till at least after 12:00 and that both of you had a good day. Are you taking care of your mom for just a bit, or is this a permanent thing?

I hope Di is ok.

I managed to walk 19 minutes today. Hit a few yard sales and a couple of yard sales.

i'm so glad it's Friday....been an extremely long week for me.

DH & I plan on taking DD & 3 of our grand-children to the zoo tomorrow. I hope that it will not be as humid then as it was today. I had problems with my asthma & breathing cause it was so humid this afternoon.

My cat is laying on my left shoulder as I am typing this. Could I say that she loves me....a little bit?

I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Love ya all,
~~Starr~~

Well you all.......

I guess that the 5 us us (Carol, Nellie, Eileen, Misscus) are all that we have on this team...for now. Which is ok, cause it means that we get to know one another better. Like a close-nit family. But on the other hand, more people would mean more encouragement~ideas, ect. Well I am thinking, if it is meant for our team to get bigger, it will! In the mean time, I LOVE & APPRECIATE YOU ALL. I mean, I would still love & appreciate you all even if we had hundreds of folks on our team, but you all know what I mean. Right? emoticon

Ok, today I have several errands to do outside of the house (DH's aide is here from11 - 4, and my DD will be at work from noon - 4. So I will get a whole 4 hours by myself. emoticon Guess you all can tell that I do not get out "by myself" very often. Anyhow, I will be able to get some walking into my day today. As I have at least 3 stores that I have to go to.

Eileen, the last I heard you were experiencing 90 degree temps in Missouri, I think. I believe you said you were headed to Iowa. Have you and DH made it there yet? You guys PLEASE be safe on your trip.

Carol, I am so glad that all your 4 footed babies got clean bills of health. That is great news. And now you dont have to worry about their shots for another year.

I sure do understand what your going thru with your mom. Mine has been gone for 2 years now, but one time she & I were in Wal-Mart. I had to go to the bathroom and she did not want to walk to the other side of the store to go with me. So I sat her down on a bench inside the store and gave her a magazine. Told her to stay right there, that I was going to the bathroom on the other side of the store and that I would be back in about 5 minutes. I told her to not get up. She promised me that she would not. But when I got back, she was gone. Luckily, she had just gotten as far as the nearest corner. Said she was looking for a different magazine and that she did not remember me telling her to stay on the bench or even why she was sitting there. It can be really scary when they get dementia/alztimers (sorry about that spelling, I know it is wrong).

Tomorrow were suppose to be taking our 3 month old grand-son and 10 & 11 year old grand-daughters to the zoo. Were looking forward to that. I have to rent a electric scooter, as I am not able to walk all that land at the zoo. If I did, I would be "down & out" for the next week.

Ok everyone, I'm gonna quit blabbing and get started with my day.

Talk to you all later.

Take care, be good & God bless.

Isn't it funny- when my kids were little they laughed/loved my "made up silly songs". When they got older they thought I was silly. Hahaha. BUT- now my youngest sings silly songs to HER daughter- I started a TRADITION. LOL.

I nearly FORGOT= it's FRI.!!! TIME TO GO STEP ON THAT SCALE! I have to admit I have not been as good as I should. It's been a busy and stressful week with mom here. She is more "active" this year and has been a bit difficult. I HAD to take the puppies to the vet for their shots but had to cancel/remake app't. so DH could be here. She even went outside looking for me. Don't DARE leave her alone even for a bit.

Carol,

Thank you SO much for the emoticon . I need all of those that I can get. I hope that your having a decent day with your mom. I know that it is hard, I have been there and done that with my mom.

Me & my DD walked to our mailbox, at the end of our driveway, and back 4 times today. We also walked 2 of our dogs down to the end of our block and back. And every time that I have taken laundry to the back yard today, 3 times so far, to hang up on the clothes line.....I have taken a lap round the inside of our fence.

Nellie,
That is super great you dancing. emoticon emoticon

Ok, Gang- how ya doing? I am beginning on step 3 of the challenge (you all don't know what it is yet!) but I figure I need to be a "step ahead" of you guys! LOL.
So, is everyone maintaining or working on a plan? Have you figured out what your "however long" moments for yourself each week will be? I ENJOYED my Sun. afternoon! :)
Remember- you are worth at LEAST 10 min. of time a week to yourself, even if it's just to take a cup of coffee outside and enjoy the spring air or whatever it might be. It doesn't need to be alot of time, just give yourself some time for relaxation or fun...
Next week it will be a bit more "motion"...

I'm sending TEENIESMOM BIG hugs because she is working on a BETTER HER!!! emoticon

Oh, Phyllis- I hate that scale too. BUT really it IS an inanimate object! LOL. Believe me- I had a HARD time stepping on it this morning. We don't really want to know sometimes... but it's like not going to the Dr. because we may have cancer. Not knowing is NOT going to help! emoticon So- we'll all hold hands and do whatever it is we need to do for ourselves and just give each other hugs when we need them!

Hi Starr,
I kind of feel the same way you do about the scale. I do have one though. What about measuring your hips instead of weighing for the time being. They say you lose inches before pounds. Whatever you decide to do we will all support you. THis is about getting healthy.
Keep sparking, that always helps.

Phyllis

Well, Starr, I'm totally unsure what to say as far as weighing yourself. I do NOT want you to feel badly or pressured about this challenge, but at the same time I want you to join us and work on the things you need/want to work on. So I am just going to tell you to do what you want and need to do to become the person you want to be. This is a challenge I am hoping will be something to help us in more aspects than just weight to better ourselves and make us happier (and thus healthier) people. Stress and unhappiness are not reserved for people who need to lose weight nor are they reserved for thin folks. BUT they certainly are NOT good for our health.
Maybe you could work on WHY you would want to step on that scale everyday. I know I vary from day to day, and if I focus on the scale I am not focusing on what I really need to focus on. The scale (I know this is hard to believe!) is not our enemy. It is our friend. It tells us what we need to know to work on what we need to work on. Does that make sense? What you weigh is not the important thing. Learning to love yourself for WHO YOU ARE is what I want you to work on. Weight has NOTHING to do with our worth. I just barely have learned a bit about you, but from what you have shared with me you are a person worth so VERY MUCH. Look what you did for Teeny. Look at all you do for your daughter and husband. Please know that you are a person worthy of love and try to begin that first step to loving yourself. I hope this is making sense. It is SO hard not to be able to talk in person sometimes.
Hugs, Carol

Ok guys,

I forgot about weighing today. I was busy trying to find yard sales on a beautiful 67 degree day. I have to go to a scale, cause I don't have (or want) one at home. Cause I would be on it everyday and then be mad at myself all the time.

I need to loose more then a hundred pounds, get undepressed, and like myself. I need LOTS of SUPPORT to do all of that.

I am trying to figure out where I can find a public scale on Saturday. If I can find one, I will weigh myself tomorrow.

I hope all have a great weekend.

Well, I unhappily got on scale today Friday, and I only gained 12 lbs instead of the 16 or 18 that I was thinking I had gained from DS being here last Thanksgiving with all her high very high fat food and her recipes she cooked for us for couple weeks. It was all good, but very unhealthy. Packed the pounds on real fast, duh, all that high fat, not exaggerating either.
So that is a few lbs I don't have to lose.

It turns out that an eerie type of chaos can lurk just behind a facade of order - and yet, deep inside the chaos lurks an even eerier type of order.

Hahaha! Thanks Eileen.

OK, it's Thurs. nite. ARE WE READY GANG?!!! I'm going to start a separate post for our actual challenge. This will be our "challenge chat area" and the other will strictly be for the challenge posts. OK? Don't chat on that post, just post what you need to post (no weight numbers, etc., just post whatever you need to post for whatever that portion of the challenge is, etc.) Let me know if you have any questions.

Let's do it. On that scale in the morning. Then Sat. I plan to post the next part of our challenge for the coming week. Another easy step.

REMEMBER- this is a "Making a better me" challenge. It's not going to just be about losing weight or maintaining weight. It's about making us happier, healthier, better folks all the way around. OK, here we go...

Eileen- We ALL have good and bad days! And could you please check and see if my motivation somehow got into one of those corners in your camper- I seem to constantly lose mine too!!! LOL

I am hoping this challenge will be for EVERYONE. Just keep checking each week (at least for awhile). I plan to add something new each week. BUT- you can PICK and CHOOSE what you want on YOUR personal challenge. This isn't a competition, this is a personal challenge for each of you- and we want to better ourselves and SUPPORT each other. So no competing- just alot of RAH-RAH-ing! emoticon

I have my good days and bad ones. I walk when I can. Some days it is my challenge to get to walking in the afternoon as mornings are a little difficult. Some days it seems they are all up hill like San Francisco!! I think I need to work on motivation right now; it disappeared somewhere here in the camper. Need to look into the storage area maybe!!

Have a great day tomorrow!

Yep, easy. Except for me I want to maintain, though I do have to admit that I suspect Easter got to me a little, so it is possible I need to take off a bit.

Maintaining.

OK, Nellie- just for you I'll post this a tiny bit early.

To start out our challenge we'll start slow and easy. The only thing to do this week is to go step on that scale on Fri. morning. Just ONE day a week. Don't weigh every day. Just one day a week! Each Fri.
EASY-PEASY, right?!!! emoticon

Come on, chi lovers, let's ROCK AND ROLL our way to a lighter and healthier US!!!

I know that to walk to my mail, it is uphill. What is strange is that some days the walk is easy, whereas other days it is harder. I am suspecting that perhaps it is allergies affecting my breathing, but am not sure.

Maintaining.

This was one of my SP emails this morning and it was so fitting for what I have planned. Please read it today. Then tomorrow I'll be posting my thoughts on a brand new PROGRESSIVE challenge. Stay TUNED for what that means. I promise it will be simple, especially to start with.
Carol ...

If Cincinnati is known for anything (especially among its many runners and cyclists), it is known for its hills. You can't run, bike, hike or even walk very far in this city without encountering multiple inclines, some of which are very steep! That is partly what makes our Flying Pig Marathon so notorious! When I run outside or hit the road on my bike, there is no avoiding the hills. And while many exercisers despise hills, I've come to accept them—even appreciate them. And no, I'm not a masochist.

On my many long runs these past few months (I will be running the Flying Pig half marathon this May), I've climbed a lot of hills and had a lot of time to think about each one. I've realized that we all have our own hills—in running, in weight loss and in life. Whether a hill slows us down or holds us back has less to do with its actual physicality (or our own) and much more to do with our outlook as we approach it.

Each time I reach the foot of another steep hill, I look forward, not up. When I look for the top it's far too easy to feel deflated. That end goal looks so far away and so difficult to reach! I tend to lose momentum and often get side-tracked with negative thoughts about how hard it's going to be. But when I keep my eyes directly forward, watching the ground just a few feet in front of me, it's amazing how my attitude changes. From that view, I can't tell how long or how steep a climb is. In fact, I can hardly even tell I'm going uphill at all. When I look forward instead of up, I maintain speed (and a much sunnier disposition), and I reach the top of the incline almost effortlessly. Only then do I look back and see how far I've really come. And remember: The view from the top is much better than the view from the bottom!

While each hill we encounter may feel like a roadblock, it's not. It's a challenge that, while perhaps long or hard, will eventually come to an end. If you keep moving forward, you will always reach the top. If you keep going from there, you will feel wind and gravity carrying you with speed and ease to the bottom. And once you're on a flat again, you appreciate it that much more. You harness that momentum from the downhill and keep pushing forward.

Eyes forward, I approach a hill like I would any other goal: one step at a time. Your goal may be big: to lose 100 pounds, to run a marathon, to pay down a large debt. If you only look at the end goal (the summit) from where you are now (the foot), it's easy to feel discouraged. But when you break it into smaller steps and keep your eyes focused on what you can do right now in this moment, the top doesn't matter anymore. All that matters is the next step you take.

Trust me, no one sets out to run a marathon thinking, "I am 26.2 miles from the finish line!" They take it one step and one mile at a time. And if you plan to lose 50 or 100 pounds—or whatever you goal—the worst thing you can do is focus on how far away that end goal is.

Break it down:

One step.
One minute.
One mile.
One workout.
One choice.
One bite.
One meal.
One hour.
One day.
One week.
One pound.

As long as you're moving forward, you will eventually reach the top.

Sometimes getting there will be labored, long and challenging. But it is the nature of any hill or challenge to make us stronger in body and in spirit. Every hill I ascend makes me appreciate the descents and the flats that much more. Hill training makes you stronger and faster when hills aren't present because everything else feels so much easier. Each incline I climb gives me a chance to push through a challenging situation (one that—let's be honest—I'd rather avoid) and build not just leg strength, but character as well. It makes you proud. It makes you realize that if you can do this, there is no limit to what else you can achieve.

Bring on the hills.
