Thank you all for the information :) This is what I pretty much have heard through the grapevine, our Council is pretty hush-hush with details. With what I've seen of the new badges, they are not going to be embroidered anymore? I definately prefer the "old" look of badges. I also wish they would release the new books over the summer, so the leaders and girls have a little bit of time to plan for the beginning of the year. Oh, well, we are doing the last Journey for our age group, the girls picked that one out, until we all get our "Girl Guides" and have a chance to look them over. With the Journey, Juliette Low Birthday, and Investiture, we should be well into October or November until we will need to crack open the new books!

Hi Everyone,

Here is a link that our council has given us to watch a video about the new program.

We are starting our Senior journey when we get back to school, so the girls who want to go for gold can start. Some want to complete it by 10th grade so they won't have boys and jobs as distractions! The girls who earn silver are only required to do one journey and if not, they need to complete 2 journey. Better to earn silver with the hours they will spend on another journey :-)

I think it is being kept pretty quiet all over the country...I do know that they are really encouraging the girls to complete all 3 journeys...there is a special award for completing all 3 in the 2 year period. There are 5-7 core badges, a GS religion award, and the award for completing all 3 of the journeys. Also note for the higher awards, you have to complete journeys in addition to the service projects in order to earn the awards.

I know there will not be very many badges per age group. They want the focus to be on jouneys now instead of badges. Seems strange. The only thing consistent about Girl Scouts these days is that things change often! As a leader of Cadettes and Seniors, my girls are not really interested in earning badges anymore. They like to socialize, do service projects, travel, and focus on the Silver/Gold awards. If I remember or hear more, I will make another post. I am active in the service unit and talk with the community development manager frequently, so I hear a lot.

Does anyone have a sneak peek for us? My council is pretty much keeping us in the dark. We are only told to start working on the Journeys until we get the new books and the girls get to read over the badges.

My plan is to start right away with Promise, Law, and then Rededication/Investiture. Hopefully by then, we will have our books and be ready to start the program!

Any one else have suggestons?
