I run the Dirty Girl in Chicago every year, its a lot of fun. I would recommend wearing shorts that have built in compression or wearing a pair of tight shorts under a looser pair. This way mud doesnt go up your shorts and you also dont have to risk embarrassment in some of the obstacles. Definitely dont wear your nicer fitness gear - even though most of the mud comes out, you still dont want to ruin anything. Plan on donating your shoes afterwards or at least know that they wont be good for much else. Bring lots of towels and garbage bags to put your muddy gear in while changing into clean clothes when you are done. Don't worry that much about the fact that it is a 5k. There are obstacles every few feet so you are never running for that long of a time before reaching an obstacle. Enjoy getting muddy, thats why you are there! have fun!
