10,000 steps is 10,000 steps irregardless of how far the distance it. You are still picking up your feet 10,000 times.

New low reached 149.2 lbs on 5/6/11. Made my weight watcher goal on Tuesday, May 3, 2011.
New walk record 9/9/11, 4 miles in 58 minutes.

It's definitely being tracked on here for my fitness report every day. I guess a pedometer would help as well. I am also going to try to do some of the goals with the 10,000 step Spark team on here. Thanks everyone for your input! emoticon

My "mile" is a lot more than 2000 steps, but really, it doesn't matter because if you walk 10,000 steps, even if your distance is less than someone else's it is the same number of steps. It is 2000 steps per mile and that is what many sites use to calculate your distance.

If I'm tracking my miles, it is a little different and I use the actual number of steps I walk to make a mile. To determine that, I walk a measured mile (some use a high school track) and see how many steps I walk. It really works most of the time even if you are stop/go walking and doing other things.

Don't worry about the actual distance unless you want to tell everyone how "far" you walk every day. 10,000 steps is still a great many.

10,000 steps equal 5 miles, every 2,000 steps = 1 mile. If your steps are off then you may get an incorrect number, you will need to figure out how many steps it takes you to walk 30 feet to get a accurate # of steps. Hope this helps, for instance it takes me 35 steps to walk 30 feet and it takes my husband 30 steps to walk 30 feet.

It depends on your stride length. It takes 11300 steps for me to reach 5 miles. Of course, my stride length is usually longer if I'm walking fast (I do this for my cardio) & shorter if I'm just walking down the hallway.

Tyvm! It's kind of scary when you think 10,000 steps, but not so bad for 3 or 4 mile walk. I will get Debbie Sansones 5 mile walk, right now I have the 3 mile one, or I can just add 1 more mile to it. But thanks again for the info.

I think it's around 3.6 or 3.7 miles.
