Leslie Sansone's indoor walking DVD;s, the treadmill with travel DVD;s from the public library and Mia Finnegan's mini trampoline workout DVD are what keep me going until the weather is good again. I have a feeling it is what I will be doing in July and Aug too when it is too hot here to be outside!! :)

Our weather is not as cold as some other places, so it is possible to go for walk most of the time. I love to walk as I have lost alot of my weight walking. There is a local mall where I can walk when it is too cold for outside. I love to use different DVD's so I do not get bored. I must be one of the few people who has not gotten a Wii.

Sometimes I need a visual aid to help me keep up the pace on the treadmill. I love to read magazines, but don't have the money for them. i have started going to the library and checking them out. That way I can use the pictures to encourage me, and read the magazine while I do my cool down stretch.

Normally I either work out with the Wii or follow Leslie Sansone videos. Today, however, the temperature got up to 49! My husband and I went for a very fast mile and a half walk. (We had to hurry 'cause it looked like rain.) How great to be outdoors again!

My Wii is my indoor exercise for those days it's just to wet or cold outside to do anything. I also use a balance ball as a desk chair (just bought a new one after my other one got popped about a year ago, my original replacement was too much of a workout as I had to pump it up every hour).

I would LOVE to swim but we only have an outdoor pool available to us and during the summer it's too crowded for doing laps.

KTMAE2006 that's hilarious! We like to watch beach week on the travel channel, sip Margaritas and drool.

I, too am a summer person ..Love to walk, work in the yard, mow the lawn. I am happy to report that I've shoveled snow this year and logged it on my fitness tracker. I have been struggling to walk in the cold so I've started dancing for 30 minutes instead. I have a piece of MDF that I brought from the garage and put it down on the carpet so I can boogey to my heart's content .. even thought about painting the Spark on it ...

I am also a walker, and the dog and I will be doing the Iditawalk in February and March. We braved the 24 degree weather today for a brisk 65 minute walk. If we get sun and above freezing, I will be tempted to get my bike out!

Wow, that was an adventure! Glad your dog and the wolf didn't get tangled up. I haven't done any snowshoeing since I was a kid in MA. Sounds like a great way to have fun and exercise! We don't get enough snow where I live in CO now, just icy sidewalks. Yuck!

morning! I just got back from the great out doors, both sisu, my dog and I are a little chilled. Its minus 14 celcius out there. But its a new year and I am determined to get out there. So this morning, after I had loaded the wood box, I strapped on my snow shoes and walked back to my syrup hut (I make maple syrup in the spring. I decided that I would save myself some grunt work in the spring and start laying all the paths around all my maple trees now - so I am not pushing my way through two feet of snow carrying buckets of sap when the run starts. So this morning we worked on the trail back and forth to the house. We did it 4 times (about a mile)back and forth and then headed into the maple bush itself. All was going well until Sisu caught the trail of wolf that was passing through and took off after him. The focus of the adventure changed in a heart beat, the dog was quickly disappearing through the woods and I was hot on his trail (running in snoeshoes is not an easy feat!)pleading with him to give up the persuet. He did and we headed back to the house both of us huffing and puffing. Anyone in the winter belt, I highly recommend snowshoeing, its a great workout and it keeps you quite warm while you are out there. Keeps you off the roads which are quite dangerous at this time of year with reduced visability and snow plows . I am going to keep moving. - hey, how do I get one of those monitors at the bottom of my reply that tracks my weight and lose?

Keep moving everyone - up here, we have no choice, we'll freeze in the spot if we don't !)

When I bowl, I am huffing and puffing in no time, so I count it as Wii Fit beginner level. That's on the fitness menu. But I bowl 3 to 4 games nonstop by myself. Biggest Loser kicked my butt and it counts calories for you. I haven't had a chance to try out EA Sports, PunchOut or Wii Sports. Santa obviously wants us to get fit because he delivered several games that will be good exercise.

DS and Ddil recently got a Wii. I had heard of them but had no idea what they were. We have bowled with them. It can actually be counted as exercise? I knew we were at least on our feet moving but didn't know we burn many calories.

Guess I will have to go do some looking and see if they calculate calories for Wii activities!! lol

Getting a Wii was the best thing we did this winter. I still use the traditional equipment, but the Wii adds a lot of fun exercise. The Wii Exercise Team has online bowling leagues too.

Being outside on a sunny day is so good for converting cholesterol to Vit D. But it has been cold here too. I am using the treadmill, DVD and Stereo to walk my 2 miles with beautiful scenery and march music. The time just flies!

It isn't really safe to walk on public roads where I live as so much snow. Roads narrow and meeting snow plow a nightmare. The woods also have too much snow on the trails.
Also such a risk of falling.
However, even in a small house or apartment you can walk stairs , and do laps around living room, and go to the mall and walk.
My daughter has a treed mill , but I find they make me dizzy.
They are also dvd's for dance and all kinds of exercises. I have a couple of those to try. I guess keeping fit is possible in all kinds of weather . Hard to get motivated however when weather is snowy and cold.
Best of luck to all in the New Year. Wishing you all the best in your goals of keeping fit. emoticon

Wow, 30 is cold in Florida! I was stationed at Homestead for 3 years back in the 70's.

I like to shovel snow for exercise, and I've had plenty of that this winter. When it dips down below zero or goes above 95, I love using the Wii, lifting weights and the recumbent bike. For me though, there's no substitute for getting outside in the sunshine!

I have to agree with you Thersa....it's just too cold...LOL. There's no pool around where I live also. I use to live in an apartment complex where they had an indoor & outdoor pool. I miss that. I used to love to go swimming. Of course I too have dogs that I have to walk, but I only walk them long enough for them to do there business & then I run right back inside. It's just too darn cold.

I'm not a swimmer (I sink like a rock), however after I work out on the treadmill and weights, I walk/jog anywhere from 30 to 50 minutes in the pool.

So much easier on my knees. . . want to take water aerobics, however neither of the Bally's that we go to offer it.

You are so right about the swimming. It gives you a little bit of summer when you are in the pool, you forget it is cold outside. I go to the Y 2 to 3 times a week, I take a Zumba class, then I jump in the pool and do laps. I also take water aerobics, that's alot of fun also.

One of my favorite activities has always been swimming! The other was skating, but unfortunately the rink was shut down a few years ago. Needless to say, I think there's only been one time I have gone to the gym and NOT gotten into the pool and that was because it was very cold outside and I didn't have a hair dryer. It's the perfect exercise cuz it's the only type of exercise I can do almost completely pain-free! Once I'm in the pool with my daughter, I blink and an hour has gone by. The next step is to join the Water Works class, I just have to not tell my daughter what I'm going to do or she'll get upset that I'm swimming without her.
