My husband of 43 years and I have been dancing for many years and it gives us great J O Y! All the different bands and all the fun people we've met have made it even more special. We dance all over and about three times a week. Salsa and rumba are so SEXY and I love wearing flowing sexy skirts and dresses. Yes, the high heels make it even look sexier. Revives the fervor.....for sure! We love to do all kinds of ballroom, but especially swing, waltz, and salsa. We don't want to compete, but we have been known to clear the floor a time or two. "Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain." Find a class....go check it out....don't talk about it another year....JUST DO IT! XO MARY ANN
ISEMA001 - At most dance venues in the US, you don't have to bring a dance partner. Come for a lesson before the dance and they'll pair you up with another new person (and sometimes experienced dancers come to lessons to help out the new people!) or set up a round-robin where you switch partners every few minutes to get used to dancing with different people.
When the social dancing starts that evening, just ask some of the people you danced with during the lesson... or if you're feeling brave, ask someone whose dancing you admire for a dance!
I started contra dancing about the same time as swing dancing... I thought it'd be better to only mention swing dancing since more people know what it is, but apparently that was silly of me! So glad you've experienced the addiction too!
I would LOVE to learn how to swing or salsa dance, but the only classes I can find are impossible to fit into my schedule. They never have them during the summer, and the rest of the year I have to juggle working full-time along with classes.
"Caaarl! What's wrong with you?" "Well, I kill people and I eat hands. That's two things."
When my kids would come home from the Contra Dancing and talk about, I thought that it would be fun. But I just didn't really see me doing this. But now, as my oldest son has said, "Mom's addicted!" LOL it is so fun!
Last night my kids took for the first time to a Contra Dance. It is more like you what you see on Road to Avonlea. They have dances like the Virginia Reel. It isn't has much of a workout as the Swing Dance but I had a blast! Everyone was so nice and helpful too. I can't wait to go again!

I swing dance usually once during the week (if not more) and sometimes all weekend! It's more of a great fun hobby and something to obsess about (isn't that guy a great dancer... show me that move you did again... are you going to the workshop this weekend?... etc) and a wonderful way to meet new people, guys and girls! But at the same time it's a fabulous aerobic workout: 3.5 minutes a song, dance 2 songs out of 3, for three hours in a night. I sweat like crazy and I love it! Not the sweating part, really, just the dancing part.
