Hi there PSPAHL,
Welcome! You can jump on in to Week 2 and start tracking today. If you have your totals from Saturday on to today, feel free to add those.

You will create on post in Week 2, there is a format post that you can copy and paste into your post, then just keep editing that post up to Friday Oct. 14th. I put up a new thread for each week so you will have a new post for each week.

Yes, track your progress in each element and keep a running total on your points. I tally all of the points at the end of the week and post the standings (it would be nice if these automatically tallied, but this is a member led challenge).

Please feel free to sparkmail me or leave a message on my page if I missed something or if you have any other questions.

Glad to have you join, hope you enjoy the challenge!

Vonda

Hi, Just getting back into Spark after a hiatus. Opening a new law practice and just got busy. Can I still get in on the October challenge?

So, I just printed off the challenge info. I've never done one of these before. I guess I thought everything tabluated automatically when you updated your own nutrition and goals but that doesn't appear to be the case. Am I correct in interpreting the rules to be that I need to
1, Calculate my progress as to each element of the challenge according to the rules set out in the first post?
2. Update THIS post each time as opposed to creating a new post?
Please let me know that I'm understanding this right. Thanks.

Great!

I will be creating a Thread for each week. Just copy the format into which ever week we are in, and start tracking.

Also, the Weigh In on Week One is the only weight you will be adding to the weekly posts. The rest of the weekly weigh in's will be on the Monthly Weigh In Challenge by Joanna.

Thanks!
Vonda

Hi all,
My name is Vonda (aka: Gadgetgeek) and I will be assisting Joanna by running the monthly challenges, that were requested along with our awesome Hiking Across North America. I do request your patience, this is the first challenge I have been responsible for...
We will be following Joanna's original format for the monthly challenges, they were really great. I am going to change the reporting just a little though, so I can keep up with all the information.
Instead of starting on the 1st of the month, we will be starting the first Saturday of the month, ending on the last Friday of the month. This means that some challenges will be 3 weeks and some will be 4 weeks. For most months this will give me a few days to total overall monthly points, weigh ins and post the overall winners.
Though I would really like to see everyone who is going to participate commit to the whole month, I realize that life tends to get in the way sometimes. I don't want that to stop anyone from joining, so I will be calculating weekly winners. Although, if you want bragging rights for the overall challenge, you will need to participate the whole length of the challenge.

AND NOW: THE CHALLENGE!
We will be weighing in the first day of the challenge to set our goals, and then every Wednesday to coincide with the monthly weigh in challenges (for this month - 1st, 5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th). This will be tracked on your OCTOBER CHALLENGE WEIGH-IN THREAD that Joanna runs.

WHAT IS THE CHALLENGE?

This is a Contest Challenge meaning people will be competing to meet the weekly challenges. For this challenge, I will be posting the results of how each player did and declare a winning player every week.

The contest consists of Weekly Accountability. Each week, there will be a winning weekly points player, a most exercise minutes player, the most weight lost player and the most days exercised player.
The weeks for points will run from Saturday to Friday.

In order for your weekly points to be included toward your total, please have your weekly counts posted by Friday evening, every week
Make your post of weekly points on the “Weekly Points” thread of the challenge under the current week post, i.e. "Week One", "Week Two" etc.
“HOW DO I PARTICIPATE?”

To be placed in this challenge, just reply to this thread and say sign me up!

“WHEN DO I NEED TO JOIN BY?”

To be included in the overall contest please sign up by Friday before the challenge starts on the first Saturday of the month. If you can only make if for a couple of weekly challenges, sign up by Friday and start your weekly challenge the next Saturday. We welcome people anytime.

“WHAT IF I CAN’T POST DAILY?” or “WHAT IF I AM AWAY?”

If you cannot post daily, you can still participate. Post your daily points, as you are able to. Let me know if you will be away.

Ideally, it’s all about the weekly posts. As mentioned above, in order for your points to be counted towards your total they need to be in by Friday. And let’s face it if you are posting daily, you are more likely to be successful in achieving your goals (and you'll earn bonus points!)

If you are going to be out of town or on vacation, etc., you can post your points and weight when you get back. Send me a Sparkmail if you know you are going to be absent for more than one week.

“THIS SOUNDS HARD!”

Ah, yes, well remember, this IS a *challenge* and that means it will require commitment on every member’s part to hold yourself accountable for your daily posts and weekly weigh-ins. It may seem simple enough, but the challenge part comes in by keeping it up EVERY DAY!

Please try to stay in the challenge for the duration of the 4 weeks. If you need to drop out, please have the courtesy of letting me know. If you have a vacation or some other reason why you may be away for a period of time that would prevent you from weekly posts, please let me know - I try to be very accommodating and would like to see everyone who wants to participate do well!

YOU have to take on the challenge and make the commitment for yourself!

Having said that,

LET’S SUPPORT ONE ANOTHER as we challenge ourselves to healthy living! Ask questions, create new topics, and post often! We are all doing this together!! Check out the chat threads.

Everyone in this challenge has an open invitation to Sparkmail me. I may not be able to reply to you right away but I will do my best to do so.

YOU are challenged to:

-Post that you want to join on the sign-up thread by the start date of the monthly challenge (October 1st). If you can't make that, weekly sign-ups can be through the week by each Friday and will start every Saturday.

AND

-Post your start weight or the number "0" on the first day of the challenge in on your weekly post in the WEEK ONE POST and then weekly every Wednesday in your OCTOBER CHALLENGE WEIGH-IN THREAD. Just edit your original post to add your new weights.

AND

-Post on the “Weekly Points” thread as often as possible.

AND

-Support and encourage your fellow players!

AND

-Commit to remaining in the challenge for the duration.

PART ONE: WEEKLY ACCOUNTABILITY
As many days as you can in a week, you will give yourself points for each category that you meet the weekly goal in these SIX areas:

1. Calorie Range-within your recommended range (not UNDER or OVER) - 10 points

2. Water (minimum 8 glasses per day, 64 ounces - all non-caffeinated beverages count like herbal tea and milk) - 10 points

3. Veggies & Fruits (minimum of 5 servings total per day - a serving is one medium piece of fruit or veg or half a cup of either except lettuce, which is one cup or half a cup of juice) - 10 points

4. Exercise - 10 or more minutes of exercise weekly, give yourself 5 points for every 10 minutes of exercise - exercise can be weights, cardio, Pilates, yoga, etc. (If you do 15 minutes of exercise, you will only get 5 points because we round down)

5. Personal Goal – 10 points everyday that you meet this goal.

6. Weigh-in Wednesdays. If you are uncomfortable posting your weight for everyone to see, you will have the option of just posting how many pounds you gained or lost for the month.

BONUS POINTS:

Give yourself an extra 50 POINTS if you post here at least 5 days in a week!
