I received an email indicating you need some more people for this challenge. I am already in two challenges but going through a stress/food bout and thought I need to do more walking. My pedometer has been a problem so the link that can help determine steps without using a pedometer talked me in to it. I will start logging steps.

Walking is a big part of my fitness program and I'm tracking steps on SP so I think it would be fun to do this virtual walk. Guess we better get going so we get out of this cold place. brrrrr

That is how I kept track of my pedometer for a few months. Just wrote the number down at the end of the day on my calendar on my bathroom door. then you just add them up by the week or month :D

There's a little bit of confusion about pedometers so I thought I would clear it up.

As to wearing a pedometer all the time, you actually don't have to. I wear my pedometer all the time EXCEPT when I'm doing my exercise videos and for my videos, I use this website to calculate my steps:

walking.about.com/od/measure/a/stepequival
ents.htm


So, for example, if I do kickboxing in the morning for half an hour, it is calculated by 30 (minutes) x 242 (steps per minute) which equals 7260 steps and then I put my pedometer on after my exercise and wear it for the rest of the day and at the end of the day, I add the two numbers together and that's my total for the day!

It's especially good if your exercise is swimming or water aerobics or bicycling because you really couldn't wear a pedometer for those, right?

I hope that helps clear things up for everyone.

Mom gave me three pedometers (one kinda damaged by me when it flipped off my undies going to the biffy) and not working well, but hopefully, I can get them to last for this challenge lol.

When one door closes, I simply look for another to kick down! Starting over isn't a crime, its Life!

Ok I think I will try this. As it is a year long thing and I won't have to punch in numbers every day, maybe it will motivate me to keep (1 of 4-5) pedometers on me. :D

This sounds great! I do zumba twice a week (usually) if that translates to Aerobic dance - 197 steps/min.. thats 11,820 per session! holy cow!

I'm in the mood to do something different next year so it's time to get our collective butts moving again so beginning Saturday, January 1, we will be starting a virtual hike across North America. If you don't have a pedometer, you should definitely ask for one for Christmas!

Each "walker" can choose how they wish to ring up the mileage (walk, run, cycle, kickboxing, dancing, skate, roller-blade - any form of exercise is good). Here's a website that shows you how many steps per minute different activities are:

Please go to your personal Spark appointment book and enter a reminder to submit your total weekly steps on the next Saturday of each week throughout the coming year.

Once I get the total steps from everyone, I'll convert them to miles and post an update of where we are in North America with information about that location (if we happen to land somewhere one of you live, perhaps you could post some information about it, too).

If you miss a week, don't fret but remember that the more walkers we have the faster we will complete the tour. Goodies will be given for various reasons, not just to the person who goes the farthest. Get your shoes shined, your passports in hand (for crossing borders between Canada, the US, Mexico, etc. and be ready for our first destination - I promise this will be fun!
