Are you doing any sort of exercise? Because if you go to this link, you can convert your activity to steps:

Also, if you just wore a pedometer while you go about your daily business, you'd be surprised how many steps you can rack up just walking around the house. Give it a try!

You always do a great job with the challenges Joanna, I haven't really been able to participate in the walking one due to being in so much pain when walking. Hopefully that changes soon.

How's everyone doing? Are you enjoying this year's challenges? Is there anything you'd like to do differently? Are there any other suggestions?

To be honest I liked weighing in every week instead of beginning/end... felt more accountable for my progress. Either way, I'm always in!

So, it's the last week of the September challenge. What did people think? Did you like having to weigh in just once at the beginning and once at the end or would you prefer weekly weigh-ins? If you could let me know by the weekend then I'll know what to put in the October challenge sign-up post.

I like the idea of weighing at the beginning and end of the month. For me this past week has not be good because I started getting sick on Sunday afternoon after kayaking. Have had problems with nose, coughing and it seems maybe allergies? and my asthma.
Just started posting again today. So the idea of only doing weigh in at the end and beginning would be good if anyone gets sick.

Weighing in at the beginning and at the end works for me, or keeping it the same. Either option...

I really don't like tracking measurements because I have never seen a consistent difference.

I like the weighing in because it helps motivate me. I know everyone will have differing opinions, but either way I am just happy to have these monthly challenges.

Thanks!

A lot of people seem to be frustrated with their scales so I'm proposing that for the September challenge, we just weigh in at the beginning of the month and then again at the end. What do you think?

Or, we could track measurements instead (although, I personally find this challenging because mine never seems to budge) or we could just get rid of the weigh-in portion?

Let me know what you think.

Sorry GemmaJo that you were in the hospital. I know how hard it is to "get back to normal" after being in for several days to week(s). I have been in too many times! I wish you speedy healing and just small walks or whatever you can do for exercise.

I have a nasty sinus infection and bronchitis this week so I will be low on exercise, too. My WBC's are very low - 1.5 - so I hope I don't keep on catching everything that comes my way!!

I used to do that but now I have osteo arthritis in my ankle and have to wear a brace to immobilize my foot so that walking is less painful. Since I am on my feet during my whole shift, I want to sit down during my breaks. I work for Walmart and get to walk a lot during my shift.

This has been a long struggle, where I did real well the first couple of years and then slowly ended up gaining most of the weight back.

No, I have a hard enough time to get up early enough to make it to work in time. I am a night owl. Tonight I have one finger that is not swollen, but at least my foot is not hurting. I've had a very busy day but it also was good and productive. :-)

This has been a long struggle, where I did real well the first couple of years and then slowly ended up gaining most of the weight back.

I don't feel like exercising in the evenings either. That's why I get up at 5 a.m. every day to exercise before work. Have you tried that?

I work retail and am on my feet all day and by the time I come home I just don't feel like exercising most days. I am also limited on what I can do.

Anyways ....... Spinning the wheel for my sparkpoints today I won an exercise dvd, do you think they are trying to tell me something? It is supposed to arrive within 3-4 weeks.

This has been a long struggle, where I did real well the first couple of years and then slowly ended up gaining most of the weight back.

While compiling the Week 1 stats in this month's challenge, I came across the following items that need to be clarified:

1) Exercise - every 10 minutes of exercise is allotted 5 points. Therefore, if you exercise 15 minutes, you get 5 points. If you exercise 23 minutes, you get 10 points. If you exercise 38 minutes, you get 15 points. Etc., etc. There are no half points.

2) Fruits & Veg servings - one medium sized piece of fruit or half a cup of fruit, veg or juice constitutes one serving of fruits and veg. Also, the goal is to have 5 or more servings of F/V per day so if you only eat 5, you get your 10 points.

3) 8 cups of water - these 8 cups also can include all non-caffeinated beverages such as milk, juice, herbal teas, flavoured water, etc.

4) Weekly Postings - please create just one post for each week of the challenge and then EDIT that one post each day of the week until the last day. When the next week of the challenge starts, please create a new post for that week and then once again EDIT that one post each day of the week until the last day.

5) Weigh-in Posts - please remember to post your most current weight on the start day of each month's challenge (for February, it's Mondays). Please create one post and then just EDIT it each week.

6) Miscellaneous - The other thing I noticed is that some people who signed up for the challenge haven't posted at all and I was wondering if there was a problem that I could help them with. Also, some people are posting their weekly points but not their weekly weigh-ins while others are posting their weekly weigh-ins and not their weekly points. Joining the challenge meaning posting BOTH, please.

I think those are all the issues that came up for the first week. Overall, I believe everyone is doing pretty well. If anyone has any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me or post here.

Thank you.

Monday mornings are so rushed for me and I always seem to be running late no matter how early I get up! That said, I forgot to weigh in today. Pretty bad for the team leader, eh? But, I promise I'll weigh in tomorrow and post my weekly weigh-in post then.

If anyone else needs help or support during the challenge, please post your comments here and someone will help you.

Take care.

Holy Cow! It's the last week of the challenge again! And, it's going to be a tough one for me. I'm going out to dinner tomorrow night and I'm hosting a retirement party on Thursday night and I'm going to the King Tut show at the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto on Saturday and eating lunch there.

Although, I also went to the movies and out to dinner last night and actually went down in weight this morning from yesterday morning so maybe, I'm worrying for nothing.

Hi,
I am curious about one thing. Why is it considered favorable to be within 10 points of the UPPER range of your recommended daily calorie totals?
Wouldn't less be best?? My range is from 1200-1500, and I am usually at the upper range. Its easy enough to add something if I am not, but why encourage eating more then you feel you need?

When one door closes, I simply look for another to kick down! Starting over isn't a crime, its Life!

This is my first challenge, so I don't know about previous formats but I do know that this one was great. Just copy and paste. Couldn't be easier.
This certainly is a great tool in my weight loss journey. emoticon

format is easy, like the set-up for each of the weeks, I usually just copy and start with the new week.

I like this new format much better. It is easier for me to do & I don't feel guilty about not posting every day.

I love the new format. I think it is so much easier to post on the thread and definitely makes it a lot easier to post to the spreadsheets.

This is the place where I'd like you to put what you like about the challenges, what you don't like about the challenges and any changes/suggestions you'd like made to the challenges.

I'm also changing this thread to include any chit chat or support team members need during the monthly challenges because those posts tend to get lost in the weekly point posts.
