I have hypoglycemia so I don't use sugar. My hypoglycemia has been under excellent control many years due to dietary changes and my blood sugars are normal now. I rely mostly on whole foods - fresh meat, fresh veggies, fresh fruits, seeds, nuts, healthy fats, and to a lesser extent some dairy, occasional beans, and rarely a minimally processed grain. No gluten. Minimal processed foods. I'm an R.N. and am certain that your blood sugar was not 592 from artificial sweeteners. While they may initially cause a slight rise in blood sugar the body quickly realizes that it is not actually sugar. That being said, many of us in the group use artificial sweeteners sparingly. One or two a day is safe for the vast majority of people unless you have phenylketonuria and use aspartame.

Pepperoni chips are delicious. You might like roasted garbanzo beans as well. And cheese crisps.

I love the crunch of chips. I found this snack and it takes care of that.

Pepperoni Chips

Cover a microwave safe dish with a paper towel and spread out a layer of pepperoni slices and cover with another paper towel. Nuke for 2 1/2 or 3 minutes. Let cool...enjoy.

I switched to the Turkey Pepperoni to cut down on the fat and they are just as good.

It depends on what type it is but it is usually in the 50s and 60s range but can be up to 79 on the glycemic index. That is in the moderate range but the load isn't all that bad. For 1.5 cups it is an 8. In reference steel cut oats have a glycemic indec of 55 too. The load on it is 12 to 13.

I use the Carbmaster yogurt and have gotten used to it as it has the lowest carb and calorie content I can get.

I always thought popcorn was a no no. Where does it rank? I had some last night, and felt guilty. Kroger has a low carb yogurt called Carbmaster. It's just ok. Has an after taste. I like making a batch of deviled eggs and having them on hand to eat when I need a quick snack.

Smart Carber.

I have been eating small roasted sweet potatoes with my meals. I love sweet potatoes and don't need to add anything to them. I save eating it until the end because I treat it as dessert. Adding a touch of brown sugar or some maple syrup would be a great way to get that dessert umph but in a healthy way.

I tend to eat most healthy foods in moderation as well. I don't like having to give up things like green peppers because they can affect my arthritis but I don't go over board on them either.

I love my boiled egggs too.I have started to lose weight as I have started
eating cabbage and a few other things that no no good for hypo-thyroid sufferers.
I had given up a lot of foods and now I am introducing them slowly and see where
it takes me. Another one was grapefruit and I am happy to say that I have some
now and then. I am going to have a bit of everything in moderation - mostly low
carb. I am enlightened emoticon

I like fresh veggies with some nut butter. I try to keep some chicken in the fridge, cold, and heavily spiced (cayenne, chipotle peppers, lime juice, lemon juice, etc.) so that they taste good cold. I also like hard boiled eggs. Both are low carb, and you just don't get into trouble with those.

I agree. The glycemic load is actually a better choice than the glycemic index.

You might want to be careful about using the glycemic index as a dietary guide. It's based on what effect 50 grams of carb from a food has on one's blood sugar. Unfortunately, it doesn't take into account actual serving sizes. Since different foods have different amounts of available carb/serving, you can screw yourself over with a low GI food with high net carbs/serving.

hi new here so if i do wrong you guys yell out.

I am using low gi food list so here are my snacks working for me. I was addicted to cookies

so i am off them now and want be looking back.

I love sugar free Smuckers blackberry jam no seeds and is great

Love my sugarless frozen strawberrys as there handy any time i want a snack

Low gi says i can eat Jello brand chocolate pudding sugarfree and its good i make it myself

no instant list says

I just ate some Paul Newman thick and chunky mild salsa so low in calories and salt and

carbs you could eat a bunch or add to whatever. Very good and his money goes to charity

I am enjoying salads as i make a huge bowl every few days so if i get hungry i run to it.

Using spray spritzer ranch off my low gi food list 2 calories per spray.

Fill your salad with Romaine lettuce its so so good. Baby spinach also and whatever you

like just keep it interesting.

What has helped me lose ten pounds is fruit and i have some fresh or frozen type at every

meal or after my meal. This kills my thought for cake or cookies.

Egg whites with cheese off low gi list as i am eating now no yolks and only fresh eggs,

Make a facial with the yolks or put them out they will bring cardinals to your yard as will

orange peelings.

I do not see well so if i forget and use all capitals forgive as i tend to do that sometimes.

Have a good weekend to all. emoticon

I am loving it here Morticia. I am staying with wonderful friends who are more health conscious than I am . Learning lots of new ideas and enjoying salads and vegetables. I haven't eaten so well in a long time. I have been almost carb free and haven't really missed them. We did splurge on a piece of Lindt dark chocolate last night. A great well deserved. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Thanks, I'm lucky to be on a fairly liberal carb diet. I just have to avoid my triggers, avoid some combining, and stay below 150 net carbs a day.

I tried a new recipe:
Pork rinds
butter
sugar substitute
cinnamon

I spread some butter on the rinds then sprinkled with the cinnamon and sugar mixture,
put them in the oven for a few minutes to melt the butter.

They were good. something different. I suggest using the flat pork rinds and be generous with the cinnamon sugar mixture.

I some how missed this thread. What you can have snack wise depends what plan you are on. I'm on a M.D. plan that is between South Beach and Atkins. My snacks may not be allowed on all plans.

I'm a snacker and I hate being deprived so I have a long list of snacks I eat and I mix them up.

Sugar free jello
Sugar free, fat free pudding
Sugar free popsicles
Sugar free fudsicles
Sugar Free Hard Candy
Sugar Free Jelly, Jams, Preserves
Light/Sugar Free Whipped Topping

Laughing Cow Cheese
Cottage Cheese with SF preserves
Cabot 50% Reduced Fat Cheese
Other cheeses like mozzarella, gouda, American, Cheddar, cottage, provolone. Swiss, FF cream cheese
Hard Boiled Eggs with low sugar dressings
Deviled Eggs

Peanut Butter Stuffed Celery
Apple and Peanut Butter
Low Carb Tortilla Crisps and Salsa
Low Carb yogurt
Serving of sugar free dark chocolate
Low glycemic Fruits
Raw Veggies - especially radishes, cauliflower, pickled cucumbers, pickled peppers
Olives or Sugar Free Pickles
Pepperoni chips
Canadian Bacon
Sugar Free Deli Meat
Leftover meat
Tuna
Sugar Free Cocoa
Decaffeinated Flavored Teas
No caffeine, no sugar soft drink

Greek yogurt is another one I've recently added to my list, but only the fruit flavored ones, which may not be good for carb count. Can't stand the taste of unflavored yogurt. I'm cringing just typing it. Also, forgot to add earlier trail mix... raisins, nuts and M&Ms.

There were two recipes on another team's boards that sounded like they might do the trick, for me. I had saved them and did not save the chef's name....so sorry if I am not giving credit where credit is due. Here they are:

1. Peanut Butter "Pie"

1 6 oz plain Greek yogurt (I use Dannon because it has potassium)
unsweetened coco powder- about 1/2 Tbs.
1-3 packets of sugar substitute- depending on your taste
1-2 Tbs. of low or no sugar peanut butter- depending on your carb count (I try to keep it to 1)
This mixture will be thick so I put a little cream in it, about 1 Tbs.
Mix well
I then like to add 1/4 cup of fiber one cereal (not the flakes) for a great crunch and some fiber
and then I add about 2 TBS of cool whip

Everyone has different tastes and carb counts, so of course adjust to your needs

2. Lemon Mousse

Mix Greek Yogurt with 1 packet of Lemonade Crystal Light (or other flavors) to make a fruit mousse.

3.Chocolate cheesecake dessert for one

Ingredients
Imperial Volume Carb (g)
Cream cheese 2 T 2 T 0.88
Whipped cream 2 fl oz ¼ cup 0.78
Cocoa powder (unsweetened) 1 t 1 t 0.20
Sweetener (liquid) To taste To taste To taste 0.00
Total carbs 1.86
Number of servings 1
Carbs per serving 1.86
To prepare
Mix a few drops of sweetener and the cocoa powder into the cream cheese, then mix in the whipped cream.
To cook
No cooking required
Notes
This is a quick and easy way to turn surplus whipped cream into a special dessert.
Delicious variations can be made by substituting coffee granules or other flavourings for the cocoa, or by using mascarpone cheese instead of the cream cheese and / or whipped cream.

I am a sweet fanatic also, and even a year later (almost to the day after being diagnosed) I still love chocolate and Pepsi. I don't eat and drink them that often - but still love them. I'll take sips once in awhile of my daughter's Pepsi at a restaurant, or I'll have a small mini candy bar, or a handful of M&Ms. This helps keep me from binging.

I always have peanut butter and wheat crackers available... apples and peanut butter... nuts... popcorn... pb & jelly sandwich on a thin bun... hummus on crackers on pita bread... a boiled egg... tortilla chips/salsa... colby jack cheese with crackers....

and I KNOW these things don't sound as good as sweets when that's what you're used to. The thing that did it for me is the numbers. It was a challenge to me to get those A1Cs down, and the only way I could do it was to stop eating so many sweets.

I also eat sugar-free ice cream. I don't go for much sugar-free chocolate because the way they sweeten it is with sugar alcohols and I am VERY sensitive to those, they mess up my intestines terribly.

I found that I had to quit sweets all together before the cravings stopped. It took a few weeks. The plus side is that everything now tastes sweeter than it used to and sweets taste way too sweet.

Please help me with low carb ideas. I am a sweet fanatic. I am trying to find things to replace my desire other than jello.

I do well for breakfast and dinner, it's luch and snacking that I struggle the most with.
