@hottippy: Sounds awesome and you're close enough to help collect/box up stuff in a few weeks so I'll definitely keep in touch. Right now, I have 2 locations for drop offs, but I hope to have triple that come this Monday. There are a lot of people looking to help out with this and I'm super excited and excited that because of the response this is getting so big =)

As for Ocean County---I'm actually going to be in Wildwood Crest/Cape May/AC this weekend. SO- if you would be willing to jsut gather up some stuff, I would be more than happy to meet with you either while I'm down there if you're close, or on my trip back up on Sunday. My email is donelle.bright@gmail.com and you should be able to get in touch with me that way this weekend. Otherwise, you can message me ur phone and we can coordinate pick up times if you want. Again, thanks so much! I'm sooooooooo excited about your support =)

I would love to help! I live in Morris County. Let me know when and where. I have a few friends that are volunteer junkies too that I could probably get to come...

That sounds like a great project! I'm glad you know the items can and will actually be used (and it certainly seems like you've done research on what to send and who to send it to), beacuse I've heard of a few collections for the oil disaster (and Haiti, etc.) that people decided to do on their own and then they ended up with the wrong things and didn't know who to give them to. Anyway, woo hoo for your awesome efforts. What are you defining as "North Jersey", though? I certainly can donate some things and may be willing to do a little collecting to help you out, but I'm on Ocean County. Thanks. :)

In response to the BP Deep Water Horizon oil spill that occurred in the Gulf of Mexico on April 20, 2010, I am starting a collection for towels, sheets, hand towels, wash rags, garbage bags, disposable gloves, and bottles of dawn dish soap to send to Florida to aid in the oil spill relief efforts. Since April, anywhere from 500,000 to 4.2 million gallons of oil have leaked every day, detrimentally affecting precious ecosystems. Marine mammals, fish, birds and other wildlife are going need as much help as possible and currently there is a demand for these items in order to aid in the cleanup efforts sponsored by The Institute for Marine Mammal Studies, the Audubon Nature Institute, and the Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge. All donations will be shipped to Florida, to the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies Coordinator of Project 8- Gulf Coast Oil Spill Relief where they will then be transported to IMMS facilities in Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana and across the state of Florida by IMMS volunteers.

Knowing the warm-heartedness of the people of Northern New Jersey and all those Sparkers out there, I figured I'd ask if anyone is willing to volunteer their time or give donations, etc... I'm just in the starting stages of this process, but I'm going to hopefully be decorating boxes tonight and setting up tomorrow for the next few weeks. I've already contacted my local Environmental Commission and they're in on it too.

Any Northern New Jersey Sparkers out there looking for something motivating to do??? Remember that helping others, including our furry little friends, will make you feel empowered and can certainly help achieve every goal we could ever set for ourselves =)

Respond to this post or you can send me a sparkmail and I'll give you my contact info!!!

love and lots of sparks,
Donelle
