South of Cape May would be the Delaware beaches. My boss said it's very nice there too and the homes are more reasonable. She's looked in North Carolina but wants something closer to Central NJ than having to drive many hours south.

Margate & Ocean City, NJ are very nice too. Not sure about homes values or cost though, but they are fun for people of all ages.

Don't think there is anything further south than Cape May in NJ unless your a fish? We do have a lot of nice beaches and history in NJ and it's fun to explore all worlds.

oooh Joann, I def. agree about Cape May, and since it is very far south, you may find something great for less thgan something farther north. The beaches are nice, and it close to Wildwood, Atlantic City, and it has a beautiful zoo, and it's very historic. Just beautiful

Betteboop, I agree with you, all those towns are great!

I have to tell you all this though, although I moved from Seaside because the people who were coming in were not the best element, not all houses in Seaside are run down shacks, my house was a two story one family home with a balcony and a deck, it had off street parking (it's own driveway) and it sold for 450,000 it was prime property since it was a block from the bay and 3 blocks from the ocean and away from the "bennies" lol I would not want to bring my children or grandchildren to Seaside though. If I really had a choice I would go to the Cape May area.

I really hope we are all helping you make your decision in spite of some negativity we all seem to agree that Seaside is not the right place but the final choice is yours.

Hugs, JoAnn

Anywhere from Ortley Beach north to Pt Pleasant is nice. My family owns a home in Lavalette and we love it there. Not too commercial not to many day tourists and not a lot of rowdy people. Very family oriented. There are a lot of little towns going up toward Pt Pleasant, Normandy Beach, the Ocean Beaches are all nice and laid back

Growing up and living in at the Jersey shore, I definitely won't pick seaside heights to stay let alone go to especially with children. I think Point Pleasant is a much better choice to bring children to...it is definitely family friendly.

Hello everyone! Happy Easter Weekend!

This is the perfect time for a home buyer. My boss has been looking at areas not far from LBI, I think it's called Manasquan. They have good prices, more rooms & space compared to areas in or near Seaside. With Seaside & Lavalette she said they were very tiny, one bath, no property, little spots to park. The price range she found was $250,000 even under.

Good luck with house hunting!! I like Point Pleasant & Wildwood, just my opinion. Seaside could be a day trip.

Oh, actually, I am glad I posted. Honest, from the gut opinions, are exactly what I'm looking for. Actually, it's hard to ask about the "quality" of people without sounding like a total snob - even writing it here I've stared at the screen thinking about the most delicate way to put it. Don't hate me, but I don't mind places that are a bit on the snooty side because they retain their property values. (We like a nice atmosphere, but we don't need to socialize). You have to understand, we're looking to buy and it's a big investment; we will stay there quite a bit, but we will also rent it out and need to attract renters who are looking for "desireable" locations and are willing to pay premium prices. If we don't find anything we're totally confident about, we will probably rent in several different places this summer. That's what we were inclined to do in the first place, but this is such a good time to buy - both in terms of prices and mortgage rates - we don't want to miss this window. I really appreciate all the feedback. And, FrogLady, thanks so much for the gift - love it! It's been quite a while since I wore a bikini and, while I am confident I'll reach my goal, I don't see anything that skimpy in my future. But I'll keep you posted. Also, from the tone of this thread, I think you ladies will enjoy my blog. It's not weight-loss related and I don't sell anything on it, it's just a creative outlet for one of my alter-egos and it's good for a laugh. In this group, you might especially enjoy my "Muffin Top" post.

I think Msfancypaints is sorry she posted here lol We are really all nice people, honest lol

It is true that most of the people if it was summer were tourists and didn't know directions to anything! I loved the fall and winter when it was just us year round people!

Happy Easter!

Hugs, JoAnn

Dee I didn't know you also lived there, I lived on the Ortley border of Seaside and always found people to be wonderful, I am so sorry you have had problems with Ortley Beach people. I can usually get along with most people unless they are judgemental of others.

Hi,

My husband grew up in Seaside and I moved in when we got married in 1998, we moved out in 2000, it was becoming a bit too much at that time. We all had alarm systems put in. I know a lot of people still enjoy going there but I would rather go to the Ortley area up to Point Pleasant, Manasquan is also a good place. You can drive to amusements from any of thos towns.

If you want to send a private message with where you are looking, I can tell you what I know of the area

Good luck and have fun!

Hugs, JoAnn

I wouldn't buy a house there, it is a party town, very noisy, very crazy in the summer. Winter is mostly renters, and not always the best kind :( Just my opinion tho :) There are some towns near seaside that might serve you better, I would keep looking. Good luck

Hi all - we are looking to buy a summer place on the shore. We're love looking for a family-friendly town that will have activities for young kids (ours are 3, 7, 10); a nice beach and allow short-term rentals (2 weeks). We've looked at several towns, but our requirements really limit our options. North Ocean County - Seaside Heights area - is as for south as we want to drive. We saw some places and the prices were so good we are skeptical. We haven't been there during the season, so we wonder if it gets too crazy, full of riff-raff or have some other serious negatives that are not apparent off season. If anybody has vacationed there, please give me your feedback. Thank you!
