I like my daily lent readings that include a prayer. after lent i am going to go through the book again and review the daily prayers.
There was one about the holy family and i think it is a great prayer:

Saint Joseph, loving father, pray for us. We live in times that are not family friendly. So many of our homes are broken. So many relationships are strained; so much abandonment is experienced. Help us to be attentive to God's loving presence that we might hear and do his will as you and Mary did.

It is really ironic because a few nights before i read this my husband actually talked about forces that want to destroy us start with trying to destroy the family.

One of the benefits of having the Lenten Challenge is that I am essentially keeping a sort of diary about how my Lenten Offerings are affecting me. I am very grateful!

Step into the unknown with confidence! Trust that in the darkness of that first step there will either be something solid to stand on, or you will be taught how to fly!

Thank you CC leaders for getting us started on our Lenten commitments! As SparkPeople encourages us to do in our healthy habits journey, I am keeping my Lenten commitments very simple:

Physical: I am giving up overeating, replacing it with turning to God for help when I feel like eating more than I need.

Spiritual: I will practice silence for at least 5 minutes each day to listen for God's still small voice.

Mental/Emotional: I will read a book, magazine, SP articles, etc., for one hour each day, finding that hour by reducing my television viewing (I'm addicted to NCIS reruns!).

I'm a latecomer here, so just joining this challenge!

My Lenten Challenge:
Physical: no pop or candy. No ice cream (very tough on the wife of a Schwans man!) Limit myself to 10 minutes a day on Facebook, 30 minutes on Sundays.

Spiritual: Each morning the homeschoolers and I will pray a decade of the rosary, meditating on the sorrowful mysteries. On Sundays our entire family will pray the rosary together. I will read 2 books on saints. The first is about St. Padre Pio. I will go to Adoration each Friday.

Emotional: I am working on kindness and generosity--to my family, to my church community, and to strangers.

I really love this challenge; thanks for setting it up Catholiccorgi!

PHYSICAL: Think it was MBEEMOM that came up with the phrase "renovating my temple" - I'm going to borrow that mindset! :) I'm excising as much sugar and processed food from my diet as possible and am committed to moving more and more every day that I feel well enough. So frustrating not always knowing day to day how my illness is going to impact my day, but all of this helps the machine run a bit better!

SPIRITUAL: Adding the Lord's Prayer to my morning routine, family rosary time every Sunday with my hubby, and making sure we get to Mass no matter what!

EMOTIONAL: I'm going to spend more time writing and working on publishing my work. God gave me an incredible gift in creativity and love of language, and so I want to spend as much time possible on that path, exploring it, and seeing what He has in store for me by giving me such a wonderful ability.

Happy, happy Friday everyone!

All reality has its origin in our perception.

emoticon I am still a little confused!! Just posted on the other Lenten Thread, and then I saw this one! emoticon So, I am posting it here, too!!! That can only help me to fulfill my commitments this Lenten Season!

My "1 2 3" Lenten Challenge:

1. Do my Outdoor Fitness (no matter what) minimum 4X weekly. Abstain from meat Wednesdays and Fridays. No chocolate on Fridays. No food "grazing".

2. During my (rather long) commute listen to the CD I received at Church on Ash Wednesday that includes the Chaplet of Divine Mercy and engage in and with the prayers. Attend Stations of The Cross every Lenten Friday after work. Do random acts of kindness daily. Learn to "pay it forward" and incorporate that in my life.

3. God loves me unconditionally - I must remember this always and learn to believe it. Be aware of my criticism of others and make a concerted, prayerful attempt to stop being critical. My heart is often filled with love; I must learn to fill my MIND with love...for myself and others. Each day strive to be a better human being than I was yesterday.

May God bless you all!!!

PHYSICAL: ARRIVE A FEW MINUTES BEFORE COMMUNITY PRAYERS

SPIRITUAL: PLACE MYSELF IN THE PRESENCE OF GOD DIFFERENT TIMES OF THE DAY TO REMIND ME OF GOD'S PRESENCE WITH ME.

EMOTIONAL: PRAY FOR SOMEONE WHO BOTHERS ME FOR SOME REASON.

THANK YOU FOR THIS CHALLENGE!!!

Physical: Getting back on track and also trying to increes my exercise

Spiritual: I am working (on my own) on a bible study (The Search for Happiness, by Father Oscar Lukefahr)

Emotional: I think that what (Trinityroyal) said is a really good one and also trying not to judge others. Now that's not how it sounds I get upset at the ones that do the judging. And I would like to not. I always have say about them the only one that is to judge is him.

Thank you Catholiccorgi for setting up this challenge.

Physical: Getting back to a true focus on my fitness goals

Spiritual: Praying every day the prayer for someone who is causing you pain. SMARGED posted it in response to my prayer request several months ago, and it seems to have brought peace to troubled people in my life.

Emotional: Trying my best to heed the 9th commandment, Thou Shalt Not Bear False Witness Against Thy Neighbour. After a long talk with my priest before Confession, I realized that my terrible habit of gossiping falls under the 9th commandment. I am working hard to stop.

Physical - having things other than chocolate for these 40+ days (in other words - no chocolate for me!)

Spiritual - getting to work in time to visit Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament at the church affiliated with my school before I get ready for the day; saying my daily Rosary before too late at night (10 pm at the latest, hoping for before 9 pm)

Emotional/Mental - not jumping to conclusions and jumping in before hearing others out. Remembering that my way is not the only way, and that I am not always right! Commenting on other drivers less.

I will do the following: physical, exercise at least 5 days a week
spiritual, read the bible daily and say the Lords Prayer daily
emotional, give up eating candy ( I have gotten into a habit of eating some everyday so it is a sacrifice for me). With God's help I know I can do this.

Here is my intention:

One Physical offering: One hour of exercise each day including Saturdays to renovate my temple. Sundays to rest.

One Spiritual offering: Daily scripture reading and constructing one cord rosary per day.

One Mental/Emotional offering: Clear the cobwebs of unimportant information...avoid Facebook, Twitter, or the frivolous news stories on Yahoo and MSN.

2013 Lenten Challenge

The 2013 Lenten Season is a time to reflect on what Christ has done for us, an opportunity to fine tune our spiritual selves, a chance to love others in service to God. It is a gift that allows us to offer back to God a small portion of the love He has shown us.
Prayerfully consider what The Holy Spirit would have you do during this holy season in our liturgical year.

Join the team as we begin on Wednesday, February 13, 2013!

Let's prepare for Easter! May I suggest we celebrate this Lenten Season by choosing to offer three things to the Lord...

One Physical offering. Jesus is our High Priest… He sacrificed His body that we might have Eternal Life. He is our example of physical discipline.

One Spiritual offering. Open your heart to the Holy Spirit! Jesus knew what was ahead for Him, and He spent time with His Father. As the Prophets before Him, He was obedient to do the will of the Father.

One Mental/Emotional offering. Jesus IS King! Over all of the earth, heaven, and over US! He IS Lord! Meditate on His love for you! Recognize you are a Child of the King! You are worthy of His love… He died so you could be an heir of the Kingdom!

These can be things you will do, give up, or whatever the Lord has you consider specifically for you. List what you are choosing to offer, and why(if you like). Use your "edit feature" to update your initial post to let everyone know how you are doing, as you feel led. We can all learn from each other! We are all here to support each other as we grow in our Catholic Faith!

Step into the unknown with confidence! Trust that in the darkness of that first step there will either be something solid to stand on, or you will be taught how to fly!
