Me time. That sounds heavenly. What is it?

Just kidding. I would love to lay around reading a book and watching t.v. and napping, but it's been a long time since I've been able to do that. Not too long ago, I remember being bored much more often. Hard to believe.

Maybe, for our May challenge, we could practice being the first to smile in any encounter, and see what effect we can have on the world. I know it isn't related to nutrition or exercise, but I do think it's related to being healthy. Just a suggestion. I'd like to hear what others may suggest.

I think it was stress. Between my parents and working 2 full-time jobs at work with no overtime, and trying to Spark every day, and get the exercise in and the food right... WWWWHHHHAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!

I took today off. Made some phone calls, cleaned the house, washed the car, went to early mass, walked 1.5 miles on the treadmill, Sparked, went to a wake, made dinner, washed dishes, washed the winter sheets to put away and washed the summer sheets to put on the bed, busy, busy, busy! But I feel much better.

Back to work tomorrow. Please let it be an easy day, Lord!

That night took a pain pill and a muscle relaxer and went out .. ribs are still sore and back out and the left side is still all bruised and trying to get back to me again ... they say it will take a while

Congrats on your 6 days of cardio and strength training!

My personal challenge for sleep will be to go to bed no later than 9:30 p.m., which will give me 7 1/2 hours sleep. Although I do better with 8 hours, I'm also afraid to make it any sooner cuz the old eyeballs will POP! and I'll be up all night.

Definitely like emoticon this chal emoticon huh? Where am I? emoticon

Last part of our April healthy challenge. It is sleep this week. Post your personal challenge for yourself!

Mine is to get more than 6 hours of sleep each night. I have been getting only 5-6 hours a night. I won't say 8 hours for sure, because then I get anxious and can't fall asleep right away. So I will say only, 'more than 6'.

Thanks CJ. I do eat some meat, but not a lot. I found a chicken recipe on SP that has 56.9 grams of protein per serving. Holy Cow! Or should I say Holy Chicken!

It's good to know other sources of protein. Sometimes I throw a little protein powder into whatever I'm eating or drinking, too, but I'd rather get it from whole foods. I'll keep working on it.

Protein, huh? Do you eat meat? I find that unless I have some meat with lunch and dinner (or breakfast and dinner), I do not get enough in, either.

If you are a meat-eater, try some leftover chicken on a bun for lunch or leftovers period for lunch. If I go meatless, I need a lot of eggs and things to get enough.

You can ask on the nutrition board if you need an expert's opinion.

Okay! I am here on the April Healthy Challenge thread to inform you all that I HAVE CHANGED MY STRENGTH TRAINING EXERCISES! Yes. It's true.

So yesterday I got in 9 glasses of water, new strength training, 2-15 minutes walks with Leslie Sansone and I even cleaned the house. I did not, however, meet my protein requirements. I don't know why I have so much trouble with that. emoticon

Yep. I can only run for a few minutes at a time. I am ready to learn and very excited! I re-did my goals last January and included a 'learn to run' one. I am running a 5K at the Manitoba Marathon on Father's Day this year with a sparkfriend or two!

Absolutely CJ! Tired and out of sorts = need quick energy to feel better = SUGAR FIX!!! I have fallen into that trap a few times this week.

I've been very good at getting to bed on time (pretty much exhausted) and my fitness is good. My food is just okay, though, and I need to do some overhauling there. And no, I haven't made those changes to my strength training routine yet. I hereby challenge myself to do so this weekend!

I've been feeling awful lately. My eating is out of control some days. The good news is, I'm still logging it, despite my downfalls! The exercise part is going very very well, though. I guess I'm not doing too badly all in all. I think if I get my sleeping in order (next week's challenge), my inordinate amount of and indiscriminate snacking will come somewhat to an end. Did you know if you are overtired that you crave sweet things and are more likely to snack senselessly?

We do need a rest sometimes.
Re-doing our programs though is a great idea. We get bored with the same thing after a while. Plus, we can plateau easier.

SHAPNUP - yeah, It looks ambitious doesn't it?
I posted this in the Married Life Team, where I am running the same challenge. I forgot to post in here:

For those of you joining us for the strength training, remember to pick something that is a challenge for you. I work out with weights 3 times a week already. I was going to push myself to do higher weights, or more reps this week. However, my big challenge team is doing an intensive strength training challenge so I am following that instead.

A challenge for you might not be as ambitious, though. If you have never done strength training, just picking an exercise or two and doing them twice or three times this week will be a great challenge for you. If you are doing well at wall push-ups, maybe it's time to switch to modified ones. Or, perhaps you are tired of regular crunches, and want to try reverse ones. It's up to you!

one-arm dumbbell rows
modified push-ups

Friday: rest

Saturday: Core
crunches
reverse crunches
crunches with a twist
* bridge-ups

Sunday: Lower
lying abduction
lying adduction
wide-leg squats with dumbbell
calf raises - don't know which will prefer
calf rocking - don't know which will prefer

And I just went to my challenge group and next week is strength training! I will do the same workouts here, so as not to over train different muscles.

Funny you should mention strength training goals. I've been perusing Fitness looking to switch out what I'm doing now. I think it's time for a change, cuz I'm starting to get bored. I've been doing the same exercises for a little over a month.
