Amazing!! Thank you family of God for your wonderful replies and adding more Godly insights to this subject. Lets get into the purpose of Satan's strategy

First Purpose: Prevent Salvation

When it comes to the unsaved, Satan's purpose is to keep them right where he has them, which is on their way to an eternity in hell. So he blinds the minds of unbelievers to keep them from getting saved and bringing God Glory (2Corinthians 4:3-4). The more people who get saved, the more glory God gets. Satan doesnt want you witnessing to your unsaved friends. He doesn't want your lost friends to hear the gospel, because when they receive Christ, Satan loses and God get glory.

Second Purpose: Make Believers Ineffective

When it come to believers, one of Satan's purposes is to interrupt the process by which God get glory through our lives. He want to render us ineffective in terms of any real impact for Christ. That is why he keeps some believers depressed, some discouraged, and others underneath their circumstances. He wants you there because he knows you can do nothing for God if you are miserable. God wont get glory if you are too miserable to give it to Him. In fact, Satan can twist things so much that he will get you blaming God for your misery. And if you are not careful, the devil can wind up using you to bring unhappiness and misery to others. He will use us to be his deceivers if we let him.

Third Purpose: Frustrate God's Will

Finally, the devil wants to deflect you and me from accomplishing the will of God by frustrating God's will for our lives. Satan even tried to frustrate the accomplishment of God's will in Jesus' life. God the Father's will for His Son was the cross, but in the wilderness temptation the devil tried to get Jesus to take the easy way.

Satan also used one of Jesus' own disciples to try to turn Him away from the cross (Matthew 16:21-22). Imagine Peter rebuking Jesus, trying to tell Him where He was wrong. Only Satan could have thought of an attack this bold. Jesus knew who was behind it, because He told Peter, "Get behind Me Satan" (vs23).
Jesus was saying "Get behind Me, devil I have to go to the cross. Peter, Satan is using you, one of my children to stop Me from doing My Father's Will."

If Satan wasnt afraid to try to turn Jesus away from God's will in going to the cross, do you think he will leave us alone? Of course not. As a matter of fact, Jesus went on to say in this same passage,"If anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me."(Matthew 16:24)

Satan tried to get Jesus to focus on the suffering of the cross and thus to avoid it. Our enemy will do the same to us. Lets face it The cross does involve suffering. It is an instrument of death. Bearing my cross means I am willing to identify publicly with Jesus Christ and accept anything that goes with that identification. It means I will bear the scars of being identified with Christ. You say, "But that can be hard." Only if you dont see the resurrection that follows crucifixion.

Ask any Olympic athlete if its hard preparing for the Games. Ask him or her if there is any pain or suffering involved in four years of training. But then ask the winner of an Olympic gold medal how it feels to stand on that platform and receive that medal. He or she will tell you all the pain and hardship was worth it. You and I are going to experience tough times in following Christ. But when we step onto the winners stand and receive the crown from Jesus Christ, we will say "It was worth it" Dont let Satan deceive and distract you from accomplishing God's will.

What are your thoughts?

Thank you all for the welcome! I know that God brings us to the place we need to be at the time we need to be there; and I know that being here, now, is reminding me of things I know, teaching me things I didn't know, and better preparing me for the battle ground I face on a daily basis.

The things we face in daily life demand that we are on our toes and paying attention. It is not enough just to see what is out there. We have to have the right armour, weapons and knowledge to fight. As Christians, we know that we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. (Ephesians 6:12 KJV)

Thank you so much for your labors of love in posting to this thread!

Welcome Leah, I know you will want to read all of this thread if you can. There is no better nourishment than God's Word. Missy I think that is a WONDERFUL idea to invite the whole team to check out this thread. Griff, thank you so much for your attention to this. I'd like to share this about temptation and obedience. If we never go looking for satan or giving him the open door invitation, it makes it all the HARDER for him to attack us. If in fact he does attack, we know God has our back if we are armed with God's Word and Its truth. God Bless.

Arm Yourself Against Temptation

"Lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil."
Luke 11:4

The things we are taught to seek or avoid in prayer, we should equally pursue or avoid in action. We should with sincerity avoid temptation, seeking to walk so guardedly in the path of obedience that we may never tempt the devil to tempt us. We are not to enter the jungle in search of the lion. We might pay dearly for such presumption. This lion may cross our path or leap upon us from the jungle, but we have nothing to do with hunting him. He that meets with him, even though he wins the day, will find it a tough struggle.

Let the Christian pray that he may be spared the encounter. Our Savior, who had experience of what temptation meant, thus earnestly admonished His disciples, "Pray that you do not enter into temptation." But let us do as we will, we shall be tempted; hence the prayer, "deliver us from evil." God had one Son without sin; but He has no son without temptation. The natural man is born to trouble as the sparks fly upward, and just as certain the Christian man is born to temptation. We must be always on our watch against Satan because, like a thief, he gives no intimation of his approach.

Believers who have had experience of the ways of Satan know that there are certain seasons when he will most probably make an attack, just as at certain seasons bleak winds may be expected; thus the Christian is put on a double guard by fear of danger, and the danger is averted by preparing to meet it. Prevention is better than cure: It is better to be so well armed that the devil will not attack you than to endure the perils of the fight even though you come off a conqueror. Pray this evening first that you may not be tempted, and then if temptation be permitted, pray that you may be delivered from the evil one.
Psalm 32:8

Leah, I'm so delighted that you've come to feast on the meat of the word. That is truly what we are served here thanks to our sister's gift of teaching and the inspiration of the Holy Spirit as our team members contribute their thoughts. We are so blessed!

Shelly, maybe a team email suggesting they stop by this thread so they don't miss out on such profound and practical teaching?

Griff, Satan desires to gorge upon us. Our God is a jealous God and will have none of it! We are His and His alone, to be consumed NOT by Satan's whims but by the All Consuming Fire, the passion of our God Most High. Excellent teaching!

emoticon Leah so glad you have dropped by please take your time and make yourself at home its been an awesome time in the Lord learning who are enemy is and how to stand firm on the word and use the faith that the Lord has given us to keep him under our feet.

Shelly that will be fine with me I know the Lord is really blessing us here in this study and I am humbled that you want to share it with the rest of the team thank you Jesus. (Reminder: this study has been taken from my study notes from Tony Evans book The battle is the Lords. I cannot take credit for it all I am doing is sharing it with all of you.)

Ok we are onto Stage Three: DISOBEDIENCE

So desire leads to deception, and deception leads to disobedience. James 1:15

"Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death."

James uses the analogy of conception, pregnancy, and birth because the birth process so closely parallels the process he is talking about. When an illegitimate desire is welcomed and acted upon, that act of conception produces a "child" called sin. And once a child has been conceived, its birth is sure to follow. In other words, committing disobedience is like the act of procreation. The result will always show up after a while. The child of disobedience is sin, and like any other child sin will begin to grow once it has been born.

Part of becoming mature in Christ, as opposed to becoming grown-up children of sin, is learning to SUBMIT our feelings to the will of Christ, to operate on the basis of what we know to be true rather than just what we feel. But sin will keep you spiritually immature, a slave to your emotions. Let me show you a wonderful promise.

Philippians 2:13
"for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose."

When your will is combined with God's will, He gives you the power to do what your will is telling you, you ought to do. So we are not in this thing alone. We have tremendous power available to us in Christ.

Stage Four: DEATH

The fourth and final stage in Satan's process is death. James says "When sin is accomplished, it brings forth death (vs15). Sin certainly brings spiritual death. That is one of the fundamental truths we learn from the sin of Adam and Eve. Sin can also produce physical death. I have already mentioned several examples of that.

Satan brings nothing but death and destruction with him, but God is the source of "every perfect gift"

James 1:17
"Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows."

James says "Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren (vs16). When Satan deceives and leads us into sin, he causes us to miss the goodness of God. Dont ever think you have it better with Satan than you do with God. Jesus is our perfect example here. When confronted by Satan's temptations in the wilderness, Jesus did not say "Let me think about it and I'll get back to you later." He said "It is written," He dealt with the temptation on the spot, right in Satan's face. He didnt meditate upon the wrong desires Satan suggested and allow them to conceive disobedience.

Satan wants us to roll his ideas over in our minds, to play with them until we start feeling better about them. But that's a process that will lead to death if we follow it.

Now that we know the process Satan wants to take us through, we are ready to talk about the purpose behind his strategy. Satan has several major purposes behind his deceptions and we will start going through them tomorrow.

Have a blessed day everyone

You are so welcome Susan we are your family and we are here for you anytime you need us. I see the Lord drawing you in closer to him and that is so exciting please keep us updated on what the Lord is doing in your life and we will continually keep you and your family in our prayers.

Awesome word brother Rick I love how the Lord works with each one of us to add to the study of his word. The devotionals are always on time and they are such a blessing to this thread. I have such a hunger for his word I cant get enough of it so with each reply from my family of God know that you are all adding to my growth and maturity in the Lord and I thank you all for your Godly wisdom and insights. My prayer is that I am doing the same for all of you because what it really comes down to its all about Jesus. Let us continue in the study of Gods word.

The process of Satan’s Strategy

We have seen that Satan’s strategy is powerful and purposeful. Our enemy has a well-laid out program to deceive and destroy. We need to look at the process of his deception, how it actually works. It occurs in 4 distinct stages.

Stage One: DESIRE

The apostle James outlines the process by which Satan deceives people. It begins with the DESIRE:

James 1:13-14
“When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed.”

Stage one in Satan’s plan is the arousal of a desire. Even legitimate desires become a problem when Satan tempts us to meet a legitimate desire in an illegitimate way. The process of temptation often means trying to get us to meet a good need in a bad way. The desire for food is good, but gluttony is sin. The desire for sex is legitimate, but immorality is sin. The desire for sleep is good, but lying in bed all day is laziness and sin. Satan knows you cant just skip the desire, because our desires are God-given. So the enemy wants to control how your desires are met. This is the issue in temptation. Satan wants your desires to master you, rather than you mastering your desires. He wants the desire to take control. Its called ADDICTION.

Stage Two: DECEPTION

In Stage Two of the process, the illegitimate development of desire leads to deception, the moment when the person takes Satan’s bait and finds out he has been deceived. The idea here is of a fisherman. A smart fisherman doesn’t just throw a bare hook in the water and wait. That hook has to be covered with some kind of bait for a fish to bite on it and get caught. Satan is not just throwing bare hooks on in front of us. He doesn’t say to a man, “Come on down to the local bar and let me get you addicted to alcohol so you can lose your job and your family, lose your self-respect and self-control, and wind up in a rehab center. Satan is far too smart to let his hooks show. He covers them with enticing bait. He invites a person down to the friendly neighborhood tavern for one drink, then two, three, four, until that person’s desire for alcohol overcomes all his other desires and commitments. He has been thoroughly deceived.

Satan deceives us by planting an evil thought or idea in our minds. He can’t make us do anything, but he can build deceitful castles of desire in our minds. King David found that out. Look at what happened when he saw Bathsheba bathing. He could have turned away, but Satan got him to keep looking and then thinking and then acting. On another occasion in David’s life, the Bible says that “Satan stood up against Israel and moved David to number Israel”
1 Chronicles 21:1
“And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel.”

David got the idea, “I don’t need God. I have a big enough army to take care of it myself.” But seventy thousand people died because of David’s sin. Peter asked Ananias, “Why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit?” about the money Ananias and Sapphira had received from the sales of their land (Acts 5:3). This couples desire to sell their land and give the money to the church in Jerusalem was legitimate. And the money the earned from the sale was legitimate income. If they had just given a certain amount and been up front about it, there would have been no problem. But Satan tempted them to twist their story and say they had given it all, and they died. Satan knows how to intertwine our desires with his twisted plans to lure us into his deception. But we still have to bite on the hook.

We will look at stages 3 and 4 tomorrow.

What are your thoughts?

Dear Carol, Missy and Rick, I thank you for your beautiful prayers for my daughter! As I was in church today, hearing the message from the book of John 15, I was encouraged of our Father's love if we will abide in Him! As we sang Amazing Grace, the Holy Spirit filled my heart with such great love!

My chains are gone, I've been set free.
My God, My Savior has ransomed me.
And like a flood his mercy reigns.
Unending love, amazing grace!

Thank you for your messages everyone! I am growing as a Christian, and I feel like I have a long way to go to be like Jesus, but I am on my way!

Love from your sister,
Susan

Good morning all my sisters and brothers. I pray God's blessings upon you all! I have had a very God-filled week and He is working VERY powerfully in my life this week. PRAISE JESUS! His Spirit is ever-present right now and To GOD I give ALL the Glory! Susan, your daughter will be in my thoughts and prayers, also. Griff, great lesson as always, thank you and Thank God for bringing us together here to share His Word. I'd like to share a couple things I was reading this morning.( It's kinds long, I hope you don't mind) As I read them, I knew they would go right along with our topic today, but I didn't know exactly how PERFECT they would tie in. I could only stop , smile, and PRAISE God when i logged on and read the last 2 days of postings here. The Holy Spirit is at work in all of us. I pray that we allow GOD"S Will to come through in our lives. In Jesus' name. Amen.

This was titled: "Religion, Future or Now?" I can't stress enough how much of this is happening NOW and not so much the "future" anymore.

[Jesus:] “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.”
—Matthew 7:15 (NIV)

Quotation:
In the “dynamic” religion that we are being promised for tomorrow, no ascetic discipline or special humbleness will any longer be required. It will be a hot-water bottle kind of piety with none of that gritty old morality it in. It will be a brand of faith that has been synthetized, vitaminized, homogenized, and capsulized, and it will be as ready-made for effortless consumption as that magically bleached, cottony, crustless, already sliced white bread which is the symbol of the modern American’s massive superiority over the pagan bushwhacker.
... Curtis Cate (1924-2006), “God and Success”, in The Atlantic Monthly, January/June 1957, p. 76 (see the book)

Dear Lord, grant me the wisdom and strength to stay true to your Word and guide me in my actions to become more like Your Son, Jesus, In my words AND in my deeds. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Here's something else I'd Like to share. This devotional couldn't speak to our topic any more clearly. God Bless.

It Is Written

MATTHEW 4:3-4 NKJ
3 Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, "If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread." 4 But He answered and said, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.' "

When tempted, Jesus did not use any supernatural powers to resist the devil. Jesus simply quoted the written Word of God to the devil.
You must do the same thing. Jesus was our example, showing us how to overcome the attacks of our enemy.
Notice how the devil came to tempt Jesus -- with a thought -- a thought contrary to the written Word of God.
Then after Jesus quoted the Bible, the devil also quoted the Bible but twisted the meaning. Jesus responded only with another verse from the Bible.
MATTHEW 4:6-7 NKJ
6 and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: 'He shall give His angels charge over you,' and, 'In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.' " 7 Jesus said to him, "It is written again, 'You shall not tempt the LORD your God.' "
If you read the whole passage in Matthew 4:1-11, you will see that quoting the written Word was the only defense Jesus used against the devil. Nothing else.
If you are going to overcome temptation and walk in victory, you must follow Jesus' example and quote the Bible to the devil. There is no other way.
God's Word in your mouth is your spiritual weapon. If you neglect to use it, you will be overcome instead of walking in all the victory and blessing Jesus has provided for you.
EPHESIANS 6:17 NKJ
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;
Obviously you must know what the Bible says to quote it to the devil. So it is evident how important it is to read and study the Bible for yourself.

(here's the REAL kicker)
Yet it is not enough to just read the Bible or study it. When thoughts come that are not in agreement with the Bible, we must speak the Word to the devil who is behind those thoughts.

SAY THIS: I will resist the devil with what is written in God's Word.

“IN DOING WHAT WE OUGHT TO DO, WE DESERVE NO PRAISE.”

Thank you Missy and I stand with you in agreement for Susans daughter. This is what this study is all about standing firm in the word and in prayer having the full armor of God on for our loved ones and friends whom Satan is running after to deceive and lie to. He wants to kill them and take them to hell we must go to the Lord and stand in the gap and intercede for them like never before.

Lets keep our armor on family of God and FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!! Fight like never before for our loved ones for our weapons are not carnal.

Ephesians 6:11-18
"Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.
Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints."

LETS FIGHT IN THE NAME OF JESUS!!!

Griff, such good teaching, sister, always.

Susan, I come against this darkness threatening your daughter. Jesus paid the price for her soul once and for all. It is in the mighty name of Jesus that I join my faith with yours and with that of our brothers and sisters here, standing with you, knowing in whom we have believed, and KNOWING that He is able to keep that which we have committed to Him against that day. I pray for the Holy Spirit to remove the blinders from your daughter's eyes so that she will clearly see the counterfeits and frauds of Satan for what they are and that she will see the truth and love and hope and glory of our God for what they are. *hugggggggggs*

The counterfeit view of Good and Evil

After telling Eve that she could be like God, Satan also told Eve that if she ate from the forbidden tree, she would know good and evil. In other words, “You can make your own decisions about what is right and wrong. You don’t need God telling you what’s right and making you feel guilty for doing what you want.” Youth speaker Josh McDowell’s national “Right from Wrong” campaign gives us an excellent example of what happens when a culture makes its own rules. McDowell discovered that many Christian young people in solid evangelical churches differ very little from their unsaved friends in their views of truth, morality, and ethics. Where did these teenagers get ideas that pretty much match what the unsaved world believes? From a culture that has bought into Satan’s counterfeit of what is good and what is evil. He is the one who suggested that human beings could discern between good and evil on their own and, therefore, could make their own choices about what is right and wrong.

Satan also told Eve, “You won’t die if you eat from this tree. God was lying to you.”
In other words, “There are no consequences to your actions. You can do whatever you want without suffering any penalties. God won’t do anything about it.” But the death God warned Adam and Eve about did come to pass. They lost their innocence, their relationship with Him, and their home in the Garden. And physical death followed as the inevitable consequence of their spiritual death. Let me tell you a secret. Satan cannot stand the truth. He does not want you to believe something simply because God said it. Our enemy has all kinds of systems in place to lead us away from objective truth, that which is independent of what we may think or what we may have experienced. Let me mention some of Satan’s counterfeit for truth.

One is called Relativism, the idea that truth is ever-changing, always on the move. In this view, what is true today may not be true tomorrow. You hear this when young people say: “Well, back in your day may have been true. But that was then, this is now.” Another of Satan’s counterfeit is subjectivism, which says that truth is strictly personal. You know you have encountered subjectivism when you hear the old line: “For these people, truth is a manner of personal choice, like choosing a dress or a tie. Empiricism is still another of Satan’s phony substitutes for truth. Empiricism says that truth resides only in what we can see and feel and measure. Truth depends on evidence and data you can gather and evaluate.

Satan snares some people in the trap of existentialism, the teaching that truth is found in what you can experience. The idea that there is a revealed body of truth that never changes is irrelevant to existentialists. The only thing that matters to them is what is happening at the moment. For still others, truth is purely logical. It can be arrived at through syllogisms. This is rationalism. If you can get the right formula, then you will find the truth. This is the realm in which most science is conducted. Science proposes hypotheses and formulates equations, and based on logical deduction in announces “Mankind is the product of evolution. “Rationalism seeks to explain life on this planet without reference to God.

Let me just mention three more of Satan’s counterfeits for truth. One is phenomenalism, the belief that if something happens outside the normal course of events, it has to be true. People in this camp are swayed by the devil’s counterfeit miracles. We read earlier that the Antichrist will be able to work all kinds of signs and wonders by Satan’s power (2Thessalonians 2:9-10). But just because something looks miraculous doesn’t mean it is from God. Satan deceives many people by doing that which is outside their normal frame of reference. They say it’s a miracle. But the test is whether the incident is in agreement with the objective truth of Scripture. Satan can imitate the miraculous.

Another counterfeit is pantheism, the belief that God is synonymous with His creation. To pantheists, God is in everything and everything is God. We have God in us too so we can be gods. Pantheism is a very ancient form of paganism, but it looks new and exciting today because it is dressed up in new clothes call the “New Age Movement.” But it’s still the same old lie. The final false view of truth I want to mention is pragmatism, the idea that truth is whatever works. You hear this all the time. Someone will say: “If it works for you, that is great.” These are the practical folks. Whatever label you give to Satan’s deception, the basis is the same. Satan hates objective truth, and he will try to lead people astray from it every time.

Satan even has his own fake form of Christianity. He has phony doctrine (1 Timothy 4:1)
as well as being able to produce phony miracles. The devil even has a counterfeit communion table. That is what Paul said, “You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons.” (1 Corinthians 10:21). Satan also offers a counterfeit spirituality (Galatians 3:2-3) based upon a counterfeit gospel (Galatians 1:11-12). His program, the devil has his own false teachers. Paul warned the church at Corinth of men who were “false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:13). Since Satan can make himself look like one of the good guys (vs14), he can do the same of his servants.

What are your thoughts?

Hi Susan you are on the right track stay strong and firm in the Lord and his word he will show you his plans for your life and his will for your life. I will be honored to pray for your daughter.

Father, I come before You in the name of Jesus with prayer and in faith, believing. Your Word says that You desire all men to be saved and come into the knowledge of the truth, so I bring Chrissie before You this day. I break the power of Satan from his assignments and activities in Chrissie's life in the Name of Jesus. Now, while Satan is bound, I ask that You send forth the perfect laborers to share the good news of the gospel in such a way that she will listen and understand it. As the truth is ministered, I believe Chrissie will come to true repentance and salvation and come out of the snare of the devil and make Jesus the Lord of her life. Thank you Lord for answering this prayer for my dear friend Susan. In Jesus Name I Pray Amen.

Amen to that message! I have to remind myself that I need to let God have control of my life and if I just do that things will go according to His plan for me. I pray every day that I will do his will and ask him to guide me in any decisions I have to make. I know I cannot go wrong if I fully trust in the Lord!

Speaking of teenagers, I have a daughter who will be 18 in two weeks. I am praying to God that He will open her heart to Jesus. For a while she was attending church with me, but she has been influenced by her friends that she wants to become Wiccan. Not while she is living with me, and she has until the end of May to find a place to live. Could you please say a prayer for Chrissie, that she will follow the right path? I really appreciate it! Well sisters and brothers, it has been a long day and I need to say my prayers and get some rest. Love,
Susan

And what a relief it is that all we are and all we have are HIS. So many people are literally dying from the stress of trying to maintain their lifestyles. If they would simply cast their cares (and all that they are and have) upon the Lord, knowing He cares for them, knowing that HIS yoke is easy and HIS burden is light. Oh, how sweet to trust in Jesus!!

Thank you everyone for your replies and all of you have made such great points on this subject. Thank you Jesus for my family of God. We praise and Honor you today and everyday. Thank you for teaching us how to be aware of Satan's tricks and deception to always have your armor on that we may be able to stand firm in your word and put Satan where he belongs under our feet In Jesus Name I Pray Amen.

Lets continue:

Satan's Experience

Satan is so powerful by virtue of his vast experience. He has untold years of experience at being the devil. You are not the first human
being he has come up against. He has been against smarter and stronger people than you and me, and he has won. One thing Satan has learned during all these years is how to transform himself, as we will see in 2 Corinthians 11:14. He can make himself
look like one of the good guys. He is the master chameleon as well as the master deceiver. He can become any color he needs to be in order to
pull off his lie. He seeks to camouflage himself and his plans. Satan is so good and so experienced at deception that the Bible says one day he will deceive all the nations of the world (Revelation 20:8). This world is a puppet, and Satan holds the strings.

Another reason that Satan is so powerful in carrying out his strategy is that he commands a massive organization of evil (Ephesians 6:12).
Satan's organization is well run and heavily disguised. It reminds me of the Mafia. Do you know the address of the Mafia headquarters? Can you pick out the members of the Mafia as they walk the streets? The Mafia has camouflaged itself in the midst of legitimate business. Many of these men wear suits and ties and carry briefcases just like other people. They operate legitimate-looking businesses behind which they hide their crimes. We know that they are out there and that they are powerful, but they are hard to identify. They control
crime and prostitution and money-laundering businesses, but its hard to find them.

Well Satan heads a spiritual Mafia that controls people and even whole nations. People wonder how a nation can produce a Stalin or a Hitler. The explanation is the massive work and deception of Satan. That's how powerful he is. Let's consider the program of Satan's deception. What is he hoping to achieve by working his strategy of deception on the world and on God's people? Satan's program is to produce such a wonderful counterfeit of God's works and ways that he leads us astray. Paul wrote to the Corinthians.

2 Corinthians 11:3
"But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent's cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ."

Notice that Paul's illustration of Satan's deception is Eve, which takes us back to Eden in Genesis 3 Satan has not changed his program. He is out to get us going in the wrong direction, just as he led Eve astray. The devil wants to make you turn left when you ought to turn right. He wants to make you miserable when you ought to be happy, taste defeat when you ought to have victory, and ruin your life when you ought to have a successful life.

Satan is a counterfeiter and the better the counterfeiter, the fewer the number of people who realize they are carrying counterfeit money.
In fact, you can buy groceries and gas and furniture with counterfeit money. The problem comes when those bills hit the bank and are shown to be worthless.

You will remember that Satan told Eve she could be like God. He knew that was a counterfeit promise because he had tried it himself. But he is still tempting us to take things into our own hands., to set up our own kingdoms, to try to live independently of God. He will say to you:

"You don't have to be anybody's slave, not even God's slave," is his message to you. His theme song is "I gotta be me". The devil wants you to believe that you don't have to answer to God anymore. But that is a myth. This universe is God's house, and He is just letting us live in a borrowed room for a while. At one time or another, most parents have to have and "ownership" discussion with their teenagers. A teenager gets mad, goes to his room, and cranks up the music because he doesn't want to hear what his parent is saying. So the parent confronts his rebellion and tells him to turn the music down. He responds, "I can do whatever I want in here. This is my room."

WRONG!! This is when a parent brings out the home ownership papers and informs the child that since his parents are paying for the house it belongs to them, not him. He is simply occupying a room that they let him sleep in. If he wants his own room, he needs to buy his own house and furniture. Then he can have any room he wants. But until then, its the parents room on loan to him, and the parents call the shots. Teenagers need to understand the concept of ownership and authority because that's the way God's world works. There is a big difference
between being the owner of the house and a guest in the house. One of the foundational verses in Scripture is Psalm 24:1

"The earth is the LORD's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it."

Satan may temporarily control a lot of this world's assets and use them against believers, but he even does that within the limits of God's permission. Ultimately, it all belongs to God. Your job is not really yours. It is God's job; He is just letting you hang around to work it. Your money is really God's money that He is letting you use. The same goes for your house, your car, and your clothes. Everything you have belongs to God. And the moment you say, "Its mine" in the sense of ownership as opposed to stewardship, what you have done is insult God by saying, "I want to be like the Most High"

What are your thoughts?

Well done Griff. Thank you for hitting this! It is so important to remember we can NOT overcome satan without the Power of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. God will not let the true believer to be overcome by satan. we need to stay in God's Word and pray regularly for God's guidance and protection in our lives. As powerful and tricky as satan is , he has nothing that God didn't give him or can't take away. God Bless.

You are so welcome Shackman and Im so glad you are back in church and I know the Lord has wonderful plans for you. Im excited for you and my prayer is that this study will help you in your walk with the Lord.

Satan's Strategy
I have found that no matter what you come up with Satan can come up with something better. No matter what sign you put up, he can change the wording. No matter what strategy you devise, you cant outwit this fellow. Satan has a definite strategy, and it can be understood in one word: Deception. Satan's strategy for your life and mine is to deceive us. He is the master deceiver. He is the camouflage king.
The reason Satan has turned to deception is that he cannot outpower God. Satan tried to overcome God in heaven, and that gamble failed. Satan's power will never be a match for God's. Evidently, in his rebellion Satan forgot that God can do something he cannot do, which is create something out of nothing by simply speaking it into existence. God looked at nothing and said, "Let their be Light" and light appeared. Satan cannot create anything. All he can do is manipulate and maneuver what has been created. Since he cannot match God's power, Satan has to maximize the power he has, and deception is his strong suit. He has turned deception into an art form.

The Power of Satan's Strategy
Just because Satan is no match for God, that doesn't mean he is powerless. I want to begin the discussion of Satan's strategy by looking at the power of his deception. 2Thessalonians 2:3-4, Paul is correcting these believers misconception about the Day of the Lord. He writes:

"Don't let anyone deceive you in any way, for (that day will not come) until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God's temple, proclaiming himself to be God."

Paul then says that this "lawless one" the Antichrist, will not be revealed until God's restraint is removed. Then, the lawless one will be revealed the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders, and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish (vs8-10).

The appearance of the Antichrist will be Satan's crowning achievement in his plan to deceive the world. The Antichrist will be empowered by Satan, who will give this person great power to pull off the master deception. The "lawless one" will be so powerful that he will sit in the temple as God, and unsaved people will think he is God. Now that's power.

But we don't have to wait until the end times to see the power of Satan at work. How else can you explain the fact that people will give up everything that they have to move in with a cult and put themselves under someone else's power, even to the point of committing suicide in the name of God? The only explanation is Satan's strategy of deception.

Where does Satan get the power he wields over people? He gets it from what I call his constitutional superiority over any man or woman.
By constitutional superiority I mean that Satan is an angel, a spirit being. He does not have the limitations of the flesh and blood. Therefore, you and I can't compete with the devil in our own strength. We cant outsmart the master deceiver. He has authority by virtue of his person. Satan's authority is given by God and limited by God, but it is still a greater authority than you and I exercise.

What are your thoughts?

Thank you for the welcome Carol and Rick!! I am glad to be here with some positive people and pray that this is the year we reach our goals! I am reading a book called "10 prayers God always says yes to" and I am praying to the Holy Spirit to lead my heart to ask what God wants me to. This is my first year back to church after many years away and I was baptized in October. I appreciate the lessons, and know that Satan is trying to get to me, but my faith and spirit are strong and I know that God will protect us!!

Welcome to you, Shackman. Very nice to have you here on this thread and on this team. Thank you for that wonderful prayer. Griff, thanks again for the great lesson. We are constantly in a spiritual battle and the more we know our enemy and his tactics, the better we can resist and ultimately defeat him. God Bless.

emoticon Shackman to the Jesus first thread we are so glad you have joined us and thank you for that beautiful prayer. Lord, I stand in agreement with my sister and we thank you for blessing this thread. We are talking about who Satan is and how he works so we can always be ready we he attacks us and tries to trick us. Let us always have our armor of God on daily.

As I close on this subject of the character of Satan I want to show you an amazing biblical account that puts some skin on this matter of conquering Satan. The story is found in Zechariah 3. I just love this!!!

In a vision the prophet Zechariah saw Joshua, the high priest of his day, standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him (vs1). Joshua was a servant of God who evidently had done something wrong. So Satan came to be Joshua’s accuser, to prosecute him before Jesus. The text doesn’t say Jesus was there, but “the angel of the Lord” in the Old Testament is a reference to Jesus in His eternal deity, before He came to earth. So here is a classic courtroom scene, an instance of spiritual warfare in which Satan needs to be conquered. We have the throne of God, Jesus Christ as the intercessor, a man with sin, and Satan the accuser.

“And the Lord said to Satan, The Lord rebuke you, Satan! Indeed, the Lord who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Is this (the man Joshua) not a brand plucked from the fire (vs2). Evidently this is one member of the Trinity addressing Satan on behalf of another member. Joshua wasn’t perfect he was clothed with filthy garments as he stood before the angel (vs3). He was dirty He need cleansing in his life. That is why he was standing there. The angel of the Lord spoke to those who were near Joshua and told them. “See, I have taken your iniquity away from you and will clothe you with festal robes” (vs4).

So Joshua appeared before the Lord in sin-stained robes. Satan came to accuse him. But God said to Joshua, “We are going to change your clothes because you have come into My presence with the help of my angel” –the pre-incarnate Jesus Christ. Joshua got a new turban, and then the new garments (vs5). Notice the last phrase of verse 5. This all happened “while the angel of the Lord was standing by.” The lawyer was in the courtroom, dealing with Satan accusation. God won the case, so he told Joshua, “If you will walk in My ways, and if you will perform My service, then you will also govern My house and also have charge of My courts, and I will grant you free access among these who are standing here (vs6-7).

God told Joshua that if he would live for Him and serve Him, God would grant him protection from defilement and give him access. Satan was conquered, and Joshua was forgiven and set free. The Emancipation Proclamation freeing America’s slaves was signed in 1863. But not all slaves got the message right away, so they still thought like slaves, walked like slaves, acted like slaves, and allowed themselves to be treated like slaves.

When you met Jesus, He set you free from Satan’s kingdom.

Colossians 1:13-14
“For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”

But its possible to be spiritually emancipated and yet still live in bondage to Satan’s accusations and intimidation. Satan will never change his character. He will never give up the contest until he is tossed into the lake of fire. Satan will be Satan for eternity, but he has been conquered by the blood of Jesus Christ. If you want to make that conquest real in your everyday Christian life, recognize the strategies of your enemy. Be on the alert for his attacks. And stand against Satan in the power of the blood. He will have to flee when you come into the presence of Jesus Christ to praise Him and have Him change your garments by the confession and cleansing of sin. Oh the blood of Jesus if we can just grasp and understand what that truly means.

What are your thoughts?

Jesus first

I believe I have shared this song before. I listen to this song almost every day. Listen to the words in this song. It 's not just words and music to me, It's really in my heart. As I get closer to Jesus, I am amazed at the abundance of His UNCONDITIONAL Love. As Paul said, And SO DO I...to live is Christ and to die is TRULY GAIN! God Bless.

Our Confession

A second weapon we can use in our conquest of Satan is our confession.

Revelation 12:11
“They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.”

Our confession or testimony has to do with our public identification with Christ. It has to do with how we speak and live, whether we are adequately and accurately reflecting who Jesus is, acknowledging Him before the world, and pointing people to Him. There is tremendous authority against Satan in our confession of Christ, because of What Jesus said in Matthew 10:32-33
“Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven.”

Jesus was not talking about salvation, but about our willingness to confess before the world that we belong to Him. The authority over Satan comes because when we confess Christ, He confesses us before His Father. That is, He says, “Father this believer is faithful to Me. She/He needs power over the Evil One, and I am signing off on her/his request so You will know I approve it. So the question is, what have we done for Christ lately? If our lips are sealed about Christ at work, at home, or anywhere else, we don’t need to bother asking Him for the power to conquer Satan. If Satan has silenced our confession, he has already won the victory.

If you and I are “secret agent saints”, if our witness is invisible, then the experience of our blessings is going to be invisible too. We are called to demonstrate God’s glory, wisdom, and power. If we cant do that, we will still be talking about what God did for us two or five or ten years ago, instead of what He is doing for us today. But when we are ready to step out for Christ, He gives us great authority. In Luke 10:19, Jesus said:

“I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.”

The words snakes and scorpions have to do with the devil, not the animal kingdom (Rev 9:3; 12:9). In other words, these serpents or scorpions were those who carry out Satan’s agenda. The seventy disciples who were willing to go out into the villages and witness for Christ had found that they had authority over Satan.

Luke 10:17
“The seventy-two returned with joy and said, "Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name."

Our Commitment
The third weapon in our Revelation 12:11 arsenal is what I am calling our commitment. The saints in Revelation loved Christ more than they loved their lives. I’d say that is commitment.

Galatians 2:20
“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

Paul also said in Philippians 1:21 “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.”

Paul’s only goal was that Christ be exalted in his life, even if it meant death vs 20

“I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.”

That’s the kind of commitment we are talking about here. Jesus said something interesting to those seventy disciples in Luke 10:20; “However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven."

Jesus was not downplaying the disciples’ authority over Satan. He was reminding them not to lose sight of their primary focus, which was their relationship and commitment to Him. In other words, our authority doesn’t come from our power. It comes from our relationship with Christ. You don’t go authority-hunting; you go Jesus-hunting. The closer you get to Jesus, the more authority you have. That’s the problem with many of the preachers you see on television. They are so busy telling people how to conquer Satan and putting on dramatic displays of their authority that Satan winds up getting way too much attention.

Let’s never forget that power belongs to Christ, not us. We can only conquer Satan as we stay fully committed to the Lord. The thing to rejoice about is that WE KNOW HIM!!!

What are your thoughts?

Amen Missy brother Rick I am just like you when I sin Sometimes when we fall we learn its when you dont learn and dont ask for forgiveness that leads you away from the Lord.

Sad to say I have been there many times in my Christian walk but Jesus is so gracious to us he taught me that when I do fall to run to him and not run away from him. Why did I run away because I was ashamed and the devil helped me to believe that whatever sin I committed I was not worthy enough to go to the Lord and ask for forgiveness or that he would forgive me for it. Satan is such a liar and it was through that experience the Lord taught me.

His amazing grace for us his undying love for us there are no words for it. To think Jesus not only prays for us but that he is there standing in our defense who else will love you like that? ONLY JESUS.

That desire for righteousness, the hunger of your heart to be in rightstanding before the Lord is the very reason you are growing in such powerful strides, my brother. God works so well with a humble pliable heart, molding it into His design as a vessel of honor unto His glory.

Thank you both for sharing this lesson here. I feel sometimes I have tried too hard to be sinless rather than to realize I am human and a SINNER. I don't mean that as I have a right to sin, just that when I fall short I am quick to seek God's forgiveness and "repent" and turn from what caused it and head straight to God and His LOVING EMBRACE! God Bless.

You are so welcome Missy and you are so right on the point you made. I find that this happens to me at work more than at home and the Lord showed me in James 1:19 "Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

Everytiime I dont do this I give Satan a foothold but Oh how gracious and patient our Lord is with us. He molds us teaches us and counsels us through his amazing Holy Spirit who jerks me back and reminds me constantly of this verse.

I love his word!!

As usual, right on point. As I wrote in the Isaiah 54:7, and I know that the Holy Spirit revealed a new dimension of that verse for me, we must be cautious not to aid the enemy in his accusations. I've heard it said that the Christian army is the only one that shoots its wounded. Sadly, that is all too often true. When accusation against a brother, a neighbor, a child, a spouse rises up within us, we are to recognize it as the devil's spawn and cause it to die before it takes root in our heart or is given birth on our lips. Excellent lesson, Griff, as ever. Thank you and thank you, Holy Spirit, for leading us and guiding us into all truth according to the word.

The Cross

The first thing you need to beat Satan is the cross, without which the other two weapons would not be possible. “The blood of the Lamb” is a reference to the death of Jesus Christ on the cross. The blood Jesus shed there not only purchased our eternal salvation, but it renders Satan powerless when we as believers are operating in the power of the Holy Spirit. Please notice Satan is not powerless in the sense that he cannot do anything. But Christ’s blood renders Satan powerless in terms of his daily warfare against us when we are operating with the spiritual resources God has provided.

Let me show you what I mean:

John 12:31-33
“Now is the time for judgment on this world; now the prince of this world will be driven out. But I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself." He said this to show the kind of death he was going to die.”

It says that Satan was judged by the death that is, the blood of Christ. So if you are under the blood, you belong to Christ. And as Paul says in Romans 8:31:
“What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?”
Paul goes on to ask in verse 33 “Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies.” Then in verse 34 he asks, “Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died more than that, who was raised to life is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.” The one who tries to condemn us is the accuser, the devil. But look at God’s answer to the devil’s accusation: “Christ Jesus is He who died.” So anyone, including Satan, who tries to condemn us has to undo and overcome what Jesus did when He died. But that’s not all Romans 8:34 tells us. Look at this verse again and you will see that Jesus not only died, He was “raised” from the dead. So our accuser has to overcome the resurrection of Christ as well.

It gets even better. Christ is “at the right hand of God.” That’s a reference to His ascension back to heaven, so we have a crucified raised, and ascended Savior to answer any accusation against us. And here is the topper. Not only is Jesus Christ at the right hand of God, the place of God’s favor, but Jesus also “interceded for us!!” Christ is not sitting up in heaven wondering what is next on the agenda. According to 1 John 2:1-2 He is our defense attorney.

“My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.”

When Satan goes to God, “Look at what your child did. Look at what your child thought. Look at what your child said,” then Jesus Christ rises to our defense as our attorney.

Father, Satan has a point. Your child did that sin, but I want you to know that, that sin has already been covered by My Blood. I died to pay for this believer’s sins, and he has confessed that sin to Me. I have already covered that sin with My Blood.” The Father says “NEXT CASE.” Remember that when we sin, we give Satan a legal right to accuse us. But when we confess our sins (1 John 1:9), we are forgiven and cleansed through Christ’s blood.

Then why does Satan keep coming with his charges? Because he knows how often we skip over our sins and don’t keep our accounts up-to-date. And he knows that sin in our hearts breaks our fellowship with God. Satan is always looking for that little corner of our lives where he can build a fortress.

Heavenly Father
As I sit here and study your word and what the cross means for me as a sinner and now as a Christian I cant help but to lift my hands in praise to you. My Jesus, my Beautiful Savior Oh how you love us and how grateful and thankful I am to you for saving me from hell. I stand in AWE of you I will praise your name now and forever. There is no one like you Lord not only for what you do for us but just for who you are. I love you Jesus in Jesus Name I Pray Amen

I loved it brother Rick thank you for posting that and adding to this study. The Lord has really been blessing my study and prayer time with him. He has impressed on me the authority we have and teaching me how to use it more in my life. Rick, this not only adds to the study but it adds and confirms to what the Holy Spirit has been placing on my heart.

The weapon of Accusation

Another potent weapon our enemy wields in his contest against God is accusation, the aspect of Satan’s character and work underscored by the name devil, the “accuser of the brethren”

Revelation 12:10
“Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: "Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ. For the accuser of our brothers, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down.”

To be effective, an accuser needs an opportunity to make an accusation. He needs something he can try to pin on the person being accused. Paul urges us to not give the devil the opportunity to accuse us:

Ephesians 4:27
“and do not give the devil a foothold.”

Paul chose the right name for the enemy here, because the devil is the accuser or slanderer who seeks to tie us up with guilt. When we give the devil the opportunity, an opening in this case in Ephesians 4, by letting our anger get out of control then at that point he has a legal right to accuse us before God. The devil has been in God’s court before. He knows that God is so righteous and so Holy He has to deal with sin. So when we sin we give the devil the opportunity he needs to go into God’s courtroom and lay a charge again us. Satan cannot touch our salvation. But he is always ready to take advantage of our sin to ruin our lives.

This is so important because God’s justice demands that He always deal with sin. He cant just skip it. When we as believers sin, we break our fellowship with God and give the devil an open door to operate in our lives. This is why the Bible urges us to deal decisively with sin.

1 John 1:9
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”

If we don’t, the devil turns that opportunity for accusation into a fortress. And when we allow him to build a fortress. And when we allow him to build a fortress, we are in trouble because the devil now has undue influence over us. Don’t let him bring you under his accusing control.

The goal of any contest is conquest, victory. In Revelation 12:11 the Bible gives us three powerful weapons for defeating our adversary Satan, the devil who accuses us day and night.

Revelation 12:11
“They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.”

The apostle was looking ahead to that future day when Satan will be defeated once and for all, so the context of Revelation 12:11 is prophetic. But the weapons these tribulation saints used to defeat the devil are the same ones we can use today. This great verse says: “They overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even to death.” We need 3 things to keep the devil from ruining us:

1. The cross of Jesus Christ (which is absolutely foundational)
2. Our Confession
3. Our Commitment

We will look at the first one the Cross tomorrow

What are your thoughts?

Happy Saturday to everyone. Praise God for ALL He does. I believe The Holy Spirit sent this devotional to me today for me to share it here in this topic. It goes right along with this study. Thanks for letting me share, Griff. Keep up the great teachings here. The Holy Spirit has found a wonderful resource in you! God Bless.

What Is the devil's Authority?

The devil obviously had access to Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden. Scripture does not tell us why God allowed this. One theory that makes sense involves mankind being allowed to judge the devil, possibly after the devil complained that God was not
just or fair in condemning him. First Corinthians 6:3 does say that Christians will judge angels — and the devil is a fallen angel. If this theory is correct, God would have to allow the devil access to influence mankind, or be seen as unfair by all.

The devil gained a certain amount of control over mankind by Adam's disobedience, which plunged Adam and all his descendants into spiritual death.

At the time of the temptation of Christ, recorded in Luke 4, the devil obviously had a great amount of authority in the world system.

LUKE 4:4-7 NKJ
4 But Jesus answered him, saying, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.' " 5 Then the devil, taking Him up on a high mountain, showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. 6 And the devil said to Him, "All this authority I will give You, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I
give it to whomever I wish. 7 "Therefore, if You will worship before me, all will be Yours."

Through His death and resurrection, Jesus defeated the devil and stripped him of his authority (Colossians 2:15, Hebrews 2:14-15).

Because Jesus announced that He had all authority after His resurrection (Matthew 28:18), the devil evidently retained no authority.

However, in the Epistles, the devil is still called the god of this world, or age (2 Corinthians 4:4). This does not mean that the devil is the god of the earth, but of the ungodly world system. He has this control through the yielding of ungodly people to speak his words and do his deeds.

The devil gains a measure of authority through any human being who will yield to his ideas and speak them, or act on them. Even Christians can, like Peter in Matthew 16:23, fall into this trap.

A perverted use of this authority is exercised when people "curse" or "damn" things or people. We should use our authority to bless — not curse.

All authority the devil may be using now is illegitimate. Only through deception and ignorance is he able to carry out his evil plans in the earth.

If the Church of Jesus Christ fails to exercise its God-given authority against the devil, he will operate virtually unhindered. This is because unsaved people are already under his dominion, and find it hard to resist him (John 8:44, 1 John 5:19).

As members of the body of Christ, we have been delegated the use of His authority on earth to see that God's will is carried out (Matthew 16:19, Luke 10:19, Philippians 2:10). We must exercise that authority.

SAY THIS: My Lord Jesus defeated the devil, stripped him of his authority, and gave authority to me over all the power of the enemy as a member of the Body of Christ on earth.

“IN DOING WHAT WE OUGHT TO DO, WE DESERVE NO PRAISE.”

Griff, EXCELLENT teaching! Once again (still!) God's message is resounding through the church. I just posted a truth from Isaiah 54:17 in the General thread, I think it is, about the accuser of the brethren. He is truly the father of ALL lies!

Hello family of God lets continue our study about Satan.

We have already learned enough about Satan to know that even though he has been decisively and eternally defeated by Jesus Christ, he is not about to lie down and quit. He is still engaged in a great contest, a great war, against God for the souls of men and women. And he has some potent weapons at his disposal lets take a look at them:

Did you know that the devil can give you a lot of stuff? Well, he can, because this world has been “handed over” to him temporarily. And as the devil told Jesus in His temptation:

Luke 4:6
“And he said to him, "I will give you all their authority and splendor, for it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to.”

Satan can give people power, wealth, friends, and fun on a mammoth scale. Scripture says that “the whole world lies in the power of the evil one”

1 John 5:19
“We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.”

So Satan can do you some earthly good, but when he does it he has something bad in mind. It’s sort of like those letters you get in the mail from credit card companies, congratulating you on your “outstanding credit history” and making you feel special because you have been hand-selected from among the masses to receive one of their cards with a high dollar limit. These letters actually make you think you have accomplished something and you deserve a reward. But credit card companies are not out to do you a favor. They have one overriding concern, which is the interest they hope to collect from you. The buying power they want to give you comes with a high price tag.

I’m not trying to equate credit card companies with the devil. But a similar principle is at work. Satan can give you “BUYING POWER”, but he will be there to collect heavy interest when the bill comes due. And the interest he seeks to collect is you destruction.
Everything Satan does is wrapped up in lies, Because deception is at the heart of everything he does. Jesus said concerning the devil:

John 8:44
“You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”

How many times have you ordered something from a catalog that looks like just what you wanted, but when the product arrives, it doesn’t look nearly as good as it did in the catalog? Satan knows how to put together a glossy slick-looking catalog of temptations. He knows how to make things look good.
But Jesus said that Satan is incapable of doing anything but lying. He is so thoroughly corrupt that lies are the crust of his nature. Satan is the ultimate deceiver. He will either make a promise that he doesn’t deliver on, or else he wont tell you the whole story. When the thing gets delivered, you find out it isnt what you thought it was, and you don’t like what you are getting.

In fact, Jesus called the devil the “father of lies” because he gave birth to deception. He told the first lie to the angels who followed him in his rebellion. He continued lying in the Garden of Eden, and he has been at it ever since. He is out to deceive the whole world and the people he controls are his deceivers too.

Revelation 12:9
“The great dragon was hurled down that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.”

2 John 1:7
“Many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist.”

If Satan is the father of lies, that means he has a family. Jesus prefaced His statement about the devil in John 8:44 by saying to the Jewish religious leaders, “You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father.” Satan has a lot of kids, many of whom don’t know that he is their father. But anyone who does not know Jesus Christ are still children of the devil. We are not the judge of people’s hearts, but Jesus said that many people who call Him “Lord” will not enter heaven. (Matthew 7:21). Why? Because they have been deceived by the devil into substituting their self-righteousness for God’s righteousness.

If Satan cannot get you to believe his lies or fall into one of his traps, he will turn around and oppose and resist anything you try to do for God. You can bank on Satan’s opposition in your efforts to live for Christ, but that is a good sign because it means that Satan considers you worth opposing!!!!

He doesn’t waste his time messing around with people who aren’t doing anything. People who never feel the devil’s opposition probably are not doing much for God. See, the devil knows he cannot touch you and me in terms of condemning us to hell. So he is content to let us go our way as long as we don’t try to invade his kingdom and make an impact for Christ.

But when we get serious about serving God, the adversary shows up. He is not about to stand by and let us plunder his kingdom. Remember, he is still determined to steal God’s Glory, so he is going to oppose anything that brings God’s Glory. It all comes back to the fact that we are in a war with a powerful enemy. But even soldiers in a war are given times of what is called R & R, “rest and recuperation or leave.”

How do we get some R & R from Satan? By praising God. In fact, the stronger the opposition, the more you need to praise God in the midst of your opposition. Satan cant handle praise. He is allergic to worship. He has to flee, because when we praise God, He shows up to enjoy our praises. And Satan cannot abide the presence of God. So if your adversary is opposing you hard right now, it is time to PRAISE THE LORD!! When we praise, we resist Satan’s opposition.

James 4:7
“Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

LETS GET TO PRAISING THE LORD TODAY EVERYBODY AND LET SATAN KNOW WE ARE WARRIORS OF JESUS CHRIST!!!

What are your thoughts?

Jesus first

You know, that certainly explains the pagan affinity for dragons and serpents, doesn't it?!

I found Prayer and the Angels to be very interesting. I haven't thought about the role of angles and prayer. Thanks for your insight.

Thank you so much brother Rick your devotionals are always on time and I learn so much from them. I would like to continue with yesterdays subject on the character of Satan.

Character of Satan – con’t

The Bible has many other descriptive names and designations for Satan. For example, he is called “the god of this world” (2 Corinthians 4:4) and the “prince of the power of the air” (Ephesians 2:2) because right now, he is in control of this planet. Satan has demonized this world. Here is a very revealing passage about Satan. Jesus said, speaking of our enemy. “The thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy” (John 10:10). Look at the evil titles Jesus gave to the devil. He s a thief who wants to steal your joy, your effectiveness for Christ, and anything else he can take from you. He is a killer “a murderer from the beginning (John 8:44). Because of Satan, Adam and Eve died. Because of Satan, Cain killed Abel. And because of Satan, all the children of Adam will die someday. Satan would kill you and me if at all possible. He is a destroyer who wants to wreck everything and everyone God has made.

Let me give you one more name for the devil that’s very revealing of his character. It’s found in Revelation 12:1-9, a key passage that gives us a lot of information about our enemy’s names, character, and activity.

“A great and wondrous sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head. She was pregnant and cried out in pain as she was about to give birth. Then another sign appeared in heaven: an enormous RED DRAGON (Satan) with seven heads and ten horns and seven crowns on his heads. His tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and flung them to the earth. The dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that he might devour her child the moment it was born. She gave birth to a son, a male child, who will rule all the nations with an iron scepter. And her child was snatched up to God and to his throne. The woman fled into the desert to a place prepared for her by God, where she might be taken care of for 1,260 days. And there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. The great dragon was hurled down that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.”

In verse 3 he is called “the red dragon” (this is where people get the idea that Satan wears a red jump suit). He is then repeatedly referred to as a dragon in the verses that follow. And notice that John also calls the devil “the serpent of old” (vs9), a reference to his deception in the Garden of Eden. A dragon is basically a serpent on steroids. A dragon is an awesome, destructive creature, like the ones they used to portray in those old science fiction movies. A dragon may be mythical and not an actual being, but the Bible draws on the imagery of a terrifying, destructive beast to characterize Satan. Other terms are used in the Bible to describe Satan, but we have enough here to make our point. When Lucifer fell, he got a many new names that tell us who he is and that warn us to be on the alert for his attacks.

Lucifer got something else hung on him besides new names. He also got an eternal death sentence. Since we talked about Satan’s eternal destiny earlier, let me just note it again and then talk about Satan’s new destination. Jesus said that the lake of fire “has been prepared for the devil and his angels” (Matthew 25:41). It is called “the lake of fire and brimstone” (Revelation 20:10), where the devil will be cast along with his followers for eternity.

There was never any possibility of redemption for Satan or his angelic followers. Speaking of Christ’s incarnation and death for sin, the writer of Hebrews says, “He does not give help to angels” (Hebrews 2:16). The Cross did not include a provision for Satan’s sin. Why no provision for Satan? I believe that part of the reason is that he sinned against too much light. Lucifer was perfect in every detail. He had firsthand experience with God. He lived in God’s very presence. He knew what he was doing. He wasn’t seduced by any tempter. Satan entered into his rebellion with his spiritual eyes wide open. There was no remedy for him. When Adam and Eve followed Satan in his rebellion and sinned against God, the human race received the same penalty that Satan received spiritual death. But God did something for mankind that He did not do for Satan and his angels. God displayed His grace to us, providing us a way of salvation (Ephesians 2:8-9).

Satan’s sin was so terrible that there was no grace for him. But God chose to extend His grace to mankind to demonstrate His power and goodness to the entire angelic world. Satan thought he had won the battle for mankind when he succeeded in the Garden. But Satan did not count on God’s grace, an attribute of His character that did not come into play until sin was present. Grace can only be measured against sin.

Hebrews 2:14-15
“Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death that is, the devil and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.”

Salvation is God’s statement to Satan that he is a beaten foe….

How I praise his name!!

I'd like to share this devotional. As we begin to study satan, we know he will lie and try to deceive us. if we don't know the truth and we don't live in God's word then satan gets an open door to set the doubt or make us live in fear. The Bible or(Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth) makes it very clear that when we KNOW the good news, There will be no obstacle we can't overcome and satan will be powerless in our lives. God Bless.

Lack Of Knowledge

HOSEA 4:6a NKJ
6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.
People wonder why many Christians experience so much trouble in life, instead of victory. The reason, according to the Bible, is a lack of knowledge.

The Bible tells us the devil is out to destroy us, but it also makes clear that we can overcome his attacks. The real problem lies with our ignorance.
Real knowledge produces faith. When we really know something, we have faith in it. Then we will act on that knowledge.
The reason God's people are destroyed by calamity is not because God doesn't love us, or because God is not able to help us. It is simply that we don't know the truth. If we really knew the truth, we would act on that knowledge. Acting on true knowledge makes you free -- it does not destroy you or put you
into bondage.
JOHN 8:31-32 NKJ
31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, "If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
God's Word is our instruction book. When we act on it, things will work for us. God allows us to make choices. When we make the right choices, we will be blessed.
Don't let the devil condemn you with this message. Instead, let it give you hope. You can learn God's Word and act on it more accurately in the future -- and be blessed!

SAY THIS: God gave me the knowledge in the Bible so I could know the truth, act on it, and be blessed.

“IN DOING WHAT WE OUGHT TO DO, WE DESERVE NO PRAISE.”

Griff, I enjoyed the study of angels VERY much. I look forward to this one on satan, as well. Missy, I finished the book and I highly recommend it. He is a very good speaker and example of God's love and how to live it. He is TOTALLY about the Bible as instruction on how to live. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I'll be picking up His second book hopefully tomorrow.
Shelly, stay strong in the Lord. He will comfort and guide you. I'm so glad and grateful to God for you, my sisters in Christ, on this team! Thank you for all you do! God Bless.

~Rick~ I ordered a copy of the book you recommended, and while I was at Amazon.com I ordered a copy of the Love Dare. They've been discussing one a day on KLOVE radio station and it's such good, practical ways to express love and grow love in your life. I can't wait to get it.

~Shelly~ I'm so glad you are feeling better in body and stronger in spirit. God is so good!

~Griff~ What an excellent lesson. We're taught to honor our parents, and our days will be long. If honoring our earthly parents rewards us with a long and good life on earth, how much greater the eternal reward for honoring our Heavenly Father?!! It's too exciting to contain. Now our will, Father, for yours in all things, for you alone are the only wise God and there are no gods before you. We love you so, Father, in Jesus' name.

I pray all of you enjoyed the study of angels and now its time to study and learn about Satan. To defeat him we must know who he is and how he works. Lets take a look at the character of Satan.

Satan’s evil character was formed the moment he let his pride cause him to rise up in rebellion against the throne of God. This creature went from a beautiful, perfect being named Lucifer, living in the light and glory of heaven, to Satan the prince of darkness, banished to the earth. And he fell with the speed of lightning. That’s what Jesus said in

Luke 10:18 “He replied, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.”

This is one of many Bible passages that speak of Satan’s judgement by God and the curse imposed on him. His curse was evident in his change of name and his change of destination. We know that before his fall, this angel’s name was Lucifer.

Isaiah 14:12
“How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations!”

But in Luke 10:18 Jesus called him Satan. People’s names were very important in the Bible, because names reflected character. The names of God reflect God’s character. The name given to Christ’s followers at Antioch, Christians reflected their conversion and allegiance to Him.

Acts 11:26
“and when he found him, he brought him to Antioch. So for a whole year Barnabas and Saul met with the church and taught great numbers of people. The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch.”

The names given to Lucifer after his fall reflect his character. “Satan” is one of those names. It means “adversary” or “opposer.” His curse is revealed in the fact that he went from “Lucifer”, meaning “shining one,” to a name meaning “adversary,” the one who opposes everyone and everything associated with God. When you rebel against God, it will always affect your character. When you oppose God, you are not the same person you used to be. That’s why being right with God is so important. Rebellion changes your character. Satan’s character was corrupted so completely that God gave him a different name. Lucifer had lost his brilliance and his righteousness, so he got a name that reflected his fallen status.

Actually, the Bible has a number of names for our enemy. Satan is one name we are very familiar with. Another is the devil, which means “accuser” or “slanderer.” The word Satan is used about fifty five times in the New Testament, and devil is used about thirty-five times. The devil is the great accuser of God’s people. That’s why the saints rejoice when the devil is finally “thrown down” by God (Rev 12:9).

The devil’s nature is revealed in the great contest of Job 1-2. By accusing Job of serving God for gain, Satan was slandering both Job’s character and God’s character. Remember, everything our enemy does is ultimately directed at God. The devil hates God and wants to do anything he can to injure Gods reputation so that He does not get the glory due Him.

The devil cant touch God, so he seeks to destroy God’s glory by attacking His people. This is why the devil is regularly in God’s presence, accusing and slandering the saints to hinder God’s glory and keep us from being blessed. The idea of an accuser suggests a legal setting, a court scene. We need to understand that God operates His universe like a court. He gave Israel His law, and throughout the Old Testament we find God bringing a charge against His people when they broke the law. Lucifer himself was brought into the court of heaven, charged with rebellion, found guilty, and sentenced to the lake of fire. His fellow rebellious angels were also sentenced to eternal fire.

Now the devil is on death row, even though he is being allowed to operate for a period of time. He has taken the role of prosecutor, bringing charges against us before God, accusing us of all sorts of things, slandering us and God. The great thing is that we have a “defense attorney” JESUS!!! To defend us by pleading His blood.

1 John 2:1
“My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.”

The sad thing is how often we fail and do wrong things that give substance to the devil’s accusations. So when the Bible calls our enemy “the devil”, God wants us to understand that our adversary is also our accuser.

When I found out about how Satan goes and accuses us before the Lord and the Lord speaks to the Father in our defense it brought me such JOY to know the Lord is defending me now matter how bad I blow it. Because he knows me he knows my heart and he knows that with every fall I take I learn from and through my falls and spills the Lord is defining me, renewing me and helping me mature in my Christian walk with him. I have learned to always run to him when I fall and ask forgiveness and to do my very best not to do it again. What Grace, What Love he has for us and we don’t deserve it do we? But there is our Lord defending us everyday I don’t know about you but that just brings tears to my eyes.

What are your thoughts?

Hey Shelly Im so glad the Lord blessed you and is continually blessing you through this. Stay faithful my sister God has got you in the palm of his hand.

Prayer and Angelic Strength

There is another kind of praise for answered prayer. This is not praise because we received what we asked for, but praise because even though God denied or delayed our request, He gave us the strength to accept what He sent us. When you pray, God will either give you what you asked for, or He will give you strength to deal with what He wants. Jesus was strengthened by an angel after He submitted to the Father’s will and needed strength to go to the cross. So when you pray, “Thy will be done,” God’s strength will be yours. Prayer is a powerful way to enlist God’s help, which may come through His angels.

Angels are enlisted by submission

A third aspect of worship that can bring you angelic assistance is submission, which simply means coming underneath appropriate, God-appointed authority. Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane was also the perfect example of proper submission expressed in worship as He submitted to His Father’s will.

Angels and Authority

We have already made the point that angels always operate under authority themselves. You will never get angelic help from God if, for instance, you are a wife who is fighting the legitimate authority of your husband, or a husband who refuses to bow to Christ’s authority over you. Angels know when we are operating in proper submission. In Acts 19 we read about an unusual incident when a group of Jewish exorcists tried to imitate Paul’s power over demons.

Acts 19:13-16
“Some Jews who went around driving out evil spirits tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who were demon-possessed. They would say, "In the name of Jesus, whom Paul preaches, I command you to come out." Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this. (One day) the evil spirit answered them, "Jesus I know, and I know about Paul, but who are you?" Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all. He gave them such a beating that they ran out of the house naked and bleeding.”

The angelic realm knows whether a person is functioning under authority. The demon knew that these men had no authority to be doing what they were doing. They had no right to be using the name of Jesus the way Paul used it. So the demon knew that they were totally unprotected, and he messed them up. If you are not under authority, your own authority is limited. God does not trust full use of His authority to people who have not first learned submission. Even Jesus “learned obedience from the things which he suffered.”

Hebrews 5:8
“Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered.”

The apostle James makes this crucial connection when he writes:

James 4:7
“Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

Most people start quoting this verse by saying “Resist the devil.” But the first step is to submit to God. Come under His authority. Why? Until you are submitted to God you wont have the power to resist the devil. But when you are in submission to God, the devil cant handle you because you are operating under God’s authority. Nathanael, our friend we met a few posts ago, got to see the angels in action because he recognized Jesus for who He is and came under Jesus’ authority by responding to His call to discipleship.

John 1:46-51
“Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?" Nathanael asked. "Come and see," said Philip. When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said of him, "Here is a true Israelite, in whom there is nothing false." "How do you know me?" Nathanael asked. Jesus answered, "I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you." Then Nathanael declared, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel." Jesus said, "You believe because I told you I saw you under the fig tree. You shall see greater things than that." He then added, "I tell you the truth, you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man."

Isnt that what you want to see in your life, the angels of God moving up and down the ladder of Jesus, bringing answers from heaven to your needs on earth? It wont happen until you come under the authority of Christ and exercise the responsibility you have under His authority. But when you get all of that lined up properly, you will see the angels in action, addressing needs on earth from the resources of heaven. Wow!! God is truly amazing.

What are your thoughts?

I'm reading a book called Crazy love by Francis Chan. I was driving around Saturday doing my normal Saturday grocery store rounds when something told me to go into my favorite Christian book store and I know The Holy Spirit brought me right to it. I'm a little over half way through, and I am really moved by it. It really talks about getting more of Jesus and less of "us" in our lives. It speaks of the lukewarm Christian and issues of lip service and "fair weathered" Believers. It's all about falling in love with God and living in that love. If you check out the website at crazylovebook.com, There are 2 videos really worth seeing. They are on the lower left side of the page. First one is "The awe factor of God" and the second is "just stop and think." I hope you enjoy. God Bless.
