I used the WW etools for my first year and then I switched over to spark people's nutrition tracker for about 8 months or so. I am now back tracking points with etools.

I have to say that I enjoy the simplicity of tracking points with etools, its faster and the only thing I have to worry about is the points value... instead of having to deal with calories + Fat + Fiber + Salt + Carbs ect...

The nutrition tracker was more work but after I got use to it and learned some tricks it wasent too bad... I just like points better.

I still love spark people. As far as the site in general I would take it over the weight watchers website any day. I have all my spark friends here, I track my exercise and my other goals. Weight watchers message boards cant compare.

I also put my weight and measurements in on www.fitday.com. I like the graphs and tracking and I have a built up weight history that goes back over 5 years total. Although before this past year and a half its pretty much stayed up. Its a good site too.

All in all I heart spark people, its my fave

I joined WW online first and have made many friends there. They are very supportive and there is lots of emphasis on my encouragement to and from friends there. (I guess, imho, because there is less interactivity with the site itself.) I also like the points system because it's quick and easy. I learned of and joined Spark later and enjoy this site also. I am currently getting to know it better. There's so much interactivity and that is good because of all the motivating tools here. Also, Spark is more precise if you want to keep up with calories and nutrition vs. simple tracking but Spark's calorie counting and nutrition tracking takes more dedication, a personal choice. I LOVE my page set up and so many of the great features of Spark. I will stick with both sites because each has features that are important to me.

I became a lifetime member of WW this past week, and for me, it is so much easier to count points than calories! So I am keeping my e-tools and going to pay for that, but I LOVE Sparkpeople for the message boards, the support here, and for tracking my exercise!

I just joined WW online yesterday. I'm a lifetime member from way back and of course over goal so I never learned about point counting except briefly last fall. I joined because I am really struggling! We have an active social life and eat out a lot and that is where I fall down. Yesterday, on my first day back at WW, we had a dinner out last night and I already used up 7 of my weekly points. I have learned a lot at Spark and enjoy it but I just felt I needed something else so I'm hoping learning about the point system will help me. I'm already eating more fruits and veggies and working to increase that so doing both will help, I hope. I will be looking for lots of suppport! And have lots of questions! I've been here everyday at Spark since December!

Pursue the things that make you feel alive and fill you with joy and balance.!

It's an individual thing, and if you are doing well with tracking calories on SP, then by all means I would say save your money and use the trackers here.

I did WW on-line only in 2002 and successfully lost 28 lbs. in 3 months, but later on got lax about it and put it all back on.

I was thrilled to discover SP in 2007 and be able to track for free! I was successful again and lost 38 lbs. in 7 months. Again, I started to backslide and ended up putting it all back on.

This year, I decided that I need the face-to-face interaction and weighing in front of someone for the accountability, so now I have a Monthly Pass and go to weekly meetings as well as track using eTools.

I still visit SP for the information and support from my friends. PLus there are a lot of fun features here, like taking the surveys, mapping out my walk, etc, etc. But, for now, I use the WW tracker and count points versus using the tracker here to count calories. I do find it easier and faster to track pts on eTools.

I am a Lifetime WW who is over goal. Meetings are too far away and would cost me more than monthly online. Since I have all my materials still, I count points and then put all my food in SP nutrition tracker. This way I am learning how to keep track of calories and nutritional content as well. Points are easier to keep track of during the day as the number is smaller compares to calories. I love WW but I do not have the extra money to pay for these things. I did pay the yearly fee for TOPS to have the accountability and face to face support, but I find their exchange program difficult to learn when I am so used to points and calories.

Like many others I find the WW forums to be difficult to manage, repetitive and when I do post I also have gotten my head bit off. Doesn't really make me want to use the site. I keep my account there so I can visit when I need to.

I find SP to be a perfect fit. They have everything I need and then some. Forums, blogs, planners, calendars, groups, pages, even exercise videos. There are not any FREE sites out there that offer this.

I have a WW point counter app on my iPod touch, as well as both of the SP apps. I keep my WW journal in a note program app on my touch as well.

WW and SP work well together, but SP is perfect just on its own. For me, it is just taking time to get used to counting calories and such, so I went back to counting points last week.

I love both for different reasons. At Weight Watchers I am accountable to that scale and for me that is a BIG motivator. I don't really care for SP's food tracker, so I track my points at WW. It is much easier for me to track points as opposed to calorie counting. The meeting that I go to is very good and very friendly. I have also met a group of people on the WW site in one of the fitness challenges and we interact everyday. SP is wonderful and I have met many new friends here as well. For now, I need both and will continue to use both.

The only person who can beat me, is me - and I can take her.

I have both. I use SP for the great articles and to get an idea where my calories are coming from as I find it has more nutrition info available for me such as vitamins and such. I use WW to stay accountable as if I have to weigh in each week I can catch a bad week quicker on the scale. I also have found great recipes in both places. I like WW for an easy was to track without have to watch "calories" and I can take the tracker with me easier than trying to access SP on my cell phone when I am away from home.

I use both for different reasons. I love SparkPeople, because of the motivation and friendliness of everyone. It is an awesome site, and I often talk about Spark at my WW meeting. But, I use WW for accountability. I'm on that scale every week. I personally think I wouldn't be as disciplined without that accountability. emoticon

Hello,

I have done WW in the past and I lost 23 pounds and gained it back and more. I Have been doing SP for 2 months and I like it better because it is more structured. With WW it was too easy for me to fall of program. I like how SP tells me how much calories, fat, carbs, protein I should be eating each day. It helps me way more then WW ever did and its free!! Thanks for reading!!

I am a lifetime member of WW. However I was still paying for the online monthly pass because I thought I needed the discipline of both WW and Sparkpeople. I like how Sparkpeople put emphasis on fitness AND nutrition and also allow and encourage you to track small goals.

I recently stopped the monthly pass with WW. If I decide to go to a meeting and weigh in, I will just pay the weekly meeting dues. That is less expensive than the monthly pass and I was not making it to meetings very often.

Honestly, I have become frustrated with WW pushing all their "fake" foods and I heard that they are getting on board with MacDonalds, which is mind blowing.

I am at SparkPeople to stay, though I do still consider myself a Weight Watcher!

I personally use both, but I use Sparks a lot more. I have a monthly pass, so I go to weekly meetings and have the included e-tools. There is one community board that I post to everyday and several of us have met in real life and it's something I would never give up. I use the SP trackers rather than points and it works for me. I like the support and motivation on sparks. I haven't found this level of support anywhere else, including meetings. Perhaps it's because I log in here every single day and spend a lot of time with one of my teams and I know have met some team members from here too. For me, I balance both and it works. If I had to choose between one or the other, I would choose sparks and use the ww knowledge I have after several years on the plan..but that's just me.

I'm a monthly pass member. So I have access to the online tools and to meetings. I'm able to track through WW online too. I personally come to SP for ALL the wonderful exercise videos, recipes, motivational articles, etc. The people here are awesome. On the WW website i've posted on there community board. I asked a question about what quick meals people cook seperate from there family. I got my head chewed off. After those times I never posted again. If you look most of the forums aren't about WW and too many people ask the same questions instead of searching the forum. On SP there is a group for all aspects of your life. I go to WW online to track my weekly weight and to find some foods that aren't in the pocket guide. Most of the time if I can't find it there I will go to calorieking.com. Hope that helped you.

If I were you I would try SP for a week. See if you like it. I do like that SP can customize you weekly foods and even give you a grocery list.

Linda I would track for about a week before you make that determination. In ww fiber and fat is added into the equasion so just because it came out to that one day with a different choice of foods it may be different.

A few years ago I did WW meetings and purchased all my tools needed to do the program. Since I started back up on WW, I have all my tools, but where I live WW is not an option. I started tracking my food here on Spark People. This is what I found out, I used one day of WW points and wrote down the calories, fat, etc. It came to about 60 calories per WW point I was allowed to eat. So, that is what I'm going off of. As I lose weight, I will change my calories, again by using the 60 calories per point. I agree with the others, this is free and yes you can WW on it :)

Since you're only doing the online portion of WW anyways, I'm sure you could get the same effect by just using SPARK! The people here are so friendly and helpful, it's like your own private support group. You can stay accountable to those on here, track your weigh ins and exercise. I track points, so I don't use the tracking on here for nutrition, but you could use that instead.

I do not belong to e-tools because I am a lifetime member and therefore I am free as long as I stay within 2 pounds of goal. I can't afford to spend 12.95 a month to count my point. So I do track using my WW journal and count points. I also do the SP calorie nutrician portion of SP.

No ... just thinking that if you were accustomed to using the WW site, that you'd be used to counting POINTS. That's the biggest difference that I know of.

For a free site, you can't ask for anything better than Spark. Spark ROCKS! One thing about it, you can give it a try and if you don't like it, you can go back to WW Online.

I understand that you can't count POINTS here. But POINTS are just another measurement basically of calories....is POINTS that much better than counting calories?

One thing you can't do at Spark is track POINTS.

I've just started using WW's Online again and have seen that they have lots of cosmetic improvements. But there were lots of things that were the same there as there are here. Perhaps you can either look for what features you are accustomed to on WW's or list them for us and we'll let you know what is comparable here.

I do weight watchers at work, and for me its less about the points (although I am tracking points right now) and its more about the socail aspect, and the physical weigh in- in front of another human being that helps with my motivation (although I still struggle!) In comparison to the online program, I'm not real sure. I think of WW just being another aspect of my journey and a way to get information.

IF (and when) the Weight Watchers at work program isn't supplemented by my office (this session was free) I wouldn't spend the extra money to go.

I'm in need of assistance. I do online WW only. I really don't have time or the desire (or money) to do meetings. I also have been introduced to sparkpeople and am seriously contemplating cancelling my subscription to WW online. What benefits are there for both? Which one is more beneficial to you? Pros? Cons? HELP!
