My show is Oct 29th and my decisions made are follows:
Makeup - paying local expert in the industry that was recommended by posing coach. I got enough crap to worry about. Doing my own hair cuz I like how I do it. YES, false eyelashes - as reminded by the makeup person I talked with, figure scores aren't just on your body composition but hair and makeup too!
Shoes - straps!
Nails done earlier in the week - it relaxes me.
I hate body hair - I am naired or shaved all the time. Going to do so about 2-3 days before show (my hair doesn't grow). Might do bikini area before spray tan.
Trainer and I talked about the bands and the workouts Wendy suggested. Shoulders and upper body I want pumped and ready... figured my legs will be jacked and ready from pacing around (LOL).
Agreed on music - NPC. Never hurts to ask.
I am purchasing photos/videos from show - don't want to miss anything from the 1st one. I also have photo shoot Friday of - doing own hair/makeup... felt it would be good for shaking out the jitters in my suit.
I have also started a "don't forget to pack" list and add to it everytime I think of something.

I went to the mac counter the night before my show and had them do my make up. Very expensive $400+ in make up but I use it for all my shows. I had my legs waxed which required not shaving for two weeks prior and I had them done the week before the show. I shaved my arms and such the night before getting my tan applied. I definitely wore false eye lashes. Got them at the mac counter. My last show I used glue on nails and painted my own toes. I use shoes with straps so no clicking problem. You can use bands and do squats, bicep curls and shoulder presses. Manly I want my shoulders pumped. No music is required in NPC figure contests only for bodybuilding. I did not use the photographer at the shows. My hubby took pics and I had a photo shoot locally a during the week before my contests. Hope this helps!

Questions for the day of Prep.
Has anyone used the makeup artist and beautician the show refers you to?
Would you suggest a full set up on the photographer the day of show if you already have a photo shoot before your event?
What exercises did you do backstage to get pumped up?
My show didn't mention anything about music was that just for the evening show?
How do i get my shoes from making the flip flop sound when I walk?
When is the last time you shave before your show or do you have yourself waxed?
False eyelashes anyone?
Sorry, first show jitters and I have noone but these wonderful spark people to help!

Be prepared for a long day.

We got to the auditorium about 9:30. The competitor's meeting was at 10:30 and the pre judging began at 11. All the girls were in a small room getting dressed, doing the bikini bite, oiling up, putting on make up and pumping up. All the competitors are milling around back waiting for their turn on stage.

The prejudging went pretty quickly - we were called out by class and stood together and turned when they told us to and posed and waited to turn again. They asked me to move positions 3 or 4 times - so I moved to that position and posed again. Then we were thanked and left the stage to wait to be called out for the next class (I was only in 2).

Pre judging took about 2 to 2-1/2 hours then we waited. I had my tan touched up by the spray vendor who was there. A lot of girls left to get something to eat or do whatever. When my final coat of tan dried my husband and I just went out and vegged in the car for about an hour.

Then we came back in - another competitor meeting at 3:45 and the show started at 4. After the pro men bb did their thing - they called all the competitors out - in numerical order - one by one. The bodybuilders went out and did their posing routines and the figure competitors did their stage walk. I had forgotten to bring music but the DJ just picked something for me (which turned out to be a PERFECT choice - as it turned out :-) ). Anyway, they read my brief bio, started the music and I walked out. Struck my poses, strutted my stuff and waved as I walked out. (some of the girls were REALLY good at working the crowd). [What most people don't realize is by the time you get to this point the decisions have been made - we didn't know the outcomes but the judging was over. This was the time to shine and have fun - the hard part was "over".]

Then there was a brief (15 min) intermission and the awards began. Our awards were about an hour later which I wish we had been told because we were all standing around in our shoes waiting. I wear heels all the time but my feet were starting to hurt by the end of the night.

When they got the figure awards they called the top 5 out from each division and announced the winners from 5th to 1st and moved you into proper position with your trophy.

We left when all of the figure awards were over - although there were awards left to give out for more of the mens' bb classes - we left about 7:45pm.

I met some really nice people, some who weren't and some who were almost too nice - the ones you knew you had to watch out for (LOL). I exchanged emails with one girl who turned out to be extremely helpful throughout the day and was very encouraging (she kept telling me that I should have won the first class :-) ).

All-in-all it was a positive experience. I was nervous to the point tearing up before my first walk onto the stage but I got it together and brought home 2 trophies. The big thing is WE'RE HOOKED (both my DH and I). I'm looking at a show in June and one in September.

If you have competed before, please share with the group what your experience was on the day of the competition. This will be very helpful for those facing their first competition. emoticon
