Exercise keeps me level most times but I am limited. Reading is a great reliever for me. I can escape to another world for a while. For severe anxiety I want to either go someplace that has pretty things or some place that I feel totally safe like work or by the police station. I also have two of my officers numbers in my cell and a Highway Patrol key chain. I will just rub on these and it will help drop the anxiety and end going into a panic attack.

My favourite way to keep my anxiety in check is physical activity: cardio and strenght workouts, or a long iaido practice with my sensei putting me through my paces. When my body gets physically exhausted, to the point where the only thing I want to do is lie down on the floor, my mind is finally quiet, at peace, and this wonderful feeling lasts several hours. The only drawback is that I have to do it everyday...

Nothing works for me besides medication, unfortunately. I've tried cardio exercise, yoga, meditation, deep breathing, massage, bubble baths, playing with my poochies, etc. I have to admit that playing with my dogs does relax the aggression I feel when I'm anxious, but it doesn't help the core anxiety. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's post. Maybe I'll find something new to try. Have a great weekend all. ~ Eden

The biggest gift of being unambiguously mentally ill is the time I’ve saved myself trying to be normal.
Running is great for heavy anxiety for me. My friends are essential for helping me snap out of bad thinking. Sometimes a game of "just one thing, then the next thing..." where I put on my mp3 player audiobooks and just tackle a mindless task like weeding...

Knowing that each of us suffer from some shape or form of anxiety I was wondering if we could share with one another what works best for us to bring down our anxiety or work through it. I know not everything works for everyone. We are all unique individuals. Just thought that maybe sharing what works for us might offer someone a new skill or method to try!
My favorite ways of bringing down anxiety are Deep Breathing, Taking a hot Bubble Bath & Talking with a friend who is supportive. Sometimes exercise works wonders too!
I look forward to each of you sharing! Cynthia
