I'm actually lucky that the place I work has a half hour set aside on Mon/Wed/Fri for us all to go out and take a walk. A few of us sometimes take that time to play a quick game of volleyball instead, sometimes walk (either way getting some heart pumping in and stress out).
Anyone else work at a place that does things like that? Curious how far we stray from norms :P

It's me again Do you belong to a professional organization like Rotary, BPW, Lions, etc.??? Why not walk to your next breakfast or lunch meeting? I am going to make a committment today that if it's not raining, I am going to walk 4 blocks to Rotary meetings every Monday.

This is a great idea!!! I normally take 10 minutes out of my day to take a walk around the block. I should do it more often but I don't always get the chance.
-Theresa, Cleveland, OH ~Mommy to a beautiful little girl~
I'm not walking in Little Rock's 100-degree heat, and there's not room inside my little office to walk there, so I've been walking 1.25 miles on a treadmill at my apartment complex.
If I rush a little (which is good because I don't have time to talk myself out of exercising) I can drive home, change into exercise clothes, scoot to the exercise room, walk/jog for 20 minutes, scoot back home, take the world's fastest neck-down shower, get back into my I's-a-professional costume, and drive back to work.
Bonus: no time for fast food, just healthy snacks at my desk, which is nice because I can have a bigger dinner. The exercise pretty much kills my appetite for the afternoon, too.
In short, I'd love to join!
I don't have to convince other people that I can reach my goals. They'll believe me after I do, and I'm not doing this for them anyway.

I am working on the 10 minute challenge to just get up and walk around the office for 10 minutes every day. Some days I can get a few minutes more, but I think it does make a difference. Not only do I feel like I have accomplished something, but I feel energized and ready to takle anything.

Outsene - I know what you mean. Now that my office is up on the 2nd floor I'm able to walk around more (forced to walk up and down a flight of stairs) and it really makes a difference. Pat

Tonight, I took a 10 minute break, I ate my pear & walked around the office...just a stroll, but it was nice to get up & get moving.

I miss not being able to take walks at lunchtime (lots of snow here in central PA). I have, on occasion, taken walks in the morning in an adjacent residential development where the snow is nicely cleared but the 8 degrees makes it a bit challenging. Walking really does make the work day go along MUCH better, though, doesn't it?

Walking during lunch is a great pick me up. Escape work for a few. Enjoy the weather and get away from the artificial light. People do not realize that we are happier when we get a few hours of real light every day. I love the improving weather here. I will have to wear sun screen out soon.

My goal is to walk for 10 minutes every day at lunch. I work out anywhere from 60-120 minutes outside of work, so I am adding in the short walk for a little added pick-me-up/metabolism booster. :) I also am making it a habit of walking downstairs (rather than accross the hall) to get water.
I'm looking forward to a walk at lunchtime today; the weather hasn't been cooperating and I think the rain/mist has stopped long enough to stretch my legs today! I miss it when I don't take that break during the day.

I got to escape the builing twice yesterday. It was muggy out both times. My traditional lunch walk was nice, the 'hill' kicked my butt like always. I took a queick walk during a break and was able to do the parimeter of the hospital. Both times I wish I had left my jacket inside. It may be cold in the office but it was warm and humid outside.

Last week, I walked 4/5 of the workdays (well, actually 5/6, considering I had to work on Saturday).
Provthirty1, I like the idea of using Leslie DVDs & walking indoors (that will come in handy once it gets too cold/icy on the ground).

Everyday I walk during my lunch hour; putting over 2 miles. But since it's been raining for the last two days, I've been walking on the treadmill and doing circuit training in the exercise room at work. After doing my walks, I get more energy in the afternoon compared to not walking, which by 3 PM, I'm close to dozing off.

I am a lapsed lunchtime walker... for months I walked at least a half mile every day (we have a track at my job,) however for the last 2-3 months I have been socializing rather than excusing myself to get that extra time in. I have a walking buddy in the evening, we usually do 2 miles; sadly I have not found someone available during my erratic lunch times, but no matter! It begins! Today I sqeezed in 12 minutes, my goal for tomorrow is 20!

At my work we have have an open area and a TV/DVD player that the company lets us use. We pop in a different Leslie Sanstone "Walk Away the Pounds" tape each day of the week. Most people change into shorts/tshirt/tennis shoes or sweats. Her tapes are low impact aerobic. So, you don't feel too sweaty to go back to work. We have great turn outs on most days! And, it is so much funner to walk with others!

We have a gym in my office building so I have no excuse not to exercise. I walked 30mins on the treadmill on 05/06. I'm plan to do that Monday-Friday unless I have to leave work early.

I try to get in a 20 minute walk each lunch hour, outside and go up and down the stairs (3 sets-10 steps each) about 5 -7 times a day.

I walk 20 minutes during my lunch break... 10 minutes to get to my house and 10 minutes to come back to work... It's not an official workout because I HAVE TO do it in order to get home to eat, but hey, it's still exercise.

I walk outside every day, rain or shine. I mostly do this because I dont have any windows. You can only stand so much fake light before you loose it. Some days I have less time then others. Normaly I walk 20 of my 30 min lunch break thats about 1 mile. For the sake of my sanity and the few people who have to deal with me I go out and walk. No matter how fast or short I have to cut it.

I walk at work everyday :) I'm also on the 3rd floor and ONLY take the stairs. I get about a mile and a half of walking just from doing work walking and not doing any extra. We have a group of people that do laps around the building and up and down the stairs, so much nicer when you have a group to do it with!

Not a good start to this week. I was late due to an appointment today, therefore no lunch time walk, I was taking my pill this morning and spilled my hot tea all over my clothes. I work 30 min from home so going home to change is worthless, so I am sitting at my desk walloing in my pity. I need some motivation to walk after work, if it's not pooring.

Hey, I did it today! I walked around my work's campus for about 15 minutes - a pretty good start.

I do the stairs at work, too. There are 36 of them and we have a challenge in another team I'm on to walk so many stairs per day, so I go up and down them a minimum of three times each day. Great exercise!

Well, I didn't walk on Friday, but I did do .... stairs! I go up and down between the third floor and basement for a short while (until I get sick of it, basically). So, even when it rains, I get some kind of exercise. You know, I think I just read an article here about how exercise in the middle of the day boosts productivity, cooperation, etc.

Welcome OH.NO.RACHEL, JESS_01 and MAISIE658!!! We're glad to have you join us on our lunch walks.
My apologies to all my friends on the Lunch Walk Challenge. I have been out of commisision for the last two weeks. Unfortunately, there are certain times of the year when I have to be out going to schools to wrap up the work I've been doing with them, which means I eat while on the run while rushing from one destination to another.
I have been able to squeeze in a couple of walks each of the last two weeks, but that is it. I have my shoes with me today and will be out there at lunch. My running to schools is over for the school year and now I can actually run/walk at lunch. I'll be thinking of you all while I'm out there and am glad to have you walking with me.

Last week I walked three days. Meetings are ruining my lunch walk time. Thank goodness I have zero meetings this week. I hope all of you are having better luck. Main thing is we do what we can and keep moving.

I did pretty good this week. We are allowed to walk at my job on the clock. We have a Wellness Committee here at my job and they encourage us to get out and get fit. So this week I walked at work on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

I walked everyday this week! For 50-60 minutes. I found out the path I take is about 1.3 miles one way so I am getting in about 2-2.5 miles a day. Yesterday I walked father than the path and went into the grocery store and grabbed some laughing cow and walked the path back to the office...so I'd say yesterday was a good 3 miles.
~12 miles for this week. Yay!

I walked M, T, W, F last week Thursday was spent having tests run and blood work.
I walked today and if the weather is good hoping to walk everyday. We have a walking path near the river so I walk for 30-50 minutes (5 mins before and after walks are spent changing into workout gear)

MIKESGRRL414- I actually picked a bad week myself, so I know what you mean. We are so slammed here at work that I have not even been taking a real lunch, only leaving my desk long enough to eat lunch. Next week won't be any better either, so I am going to have to wait until the week after that to get started. Good luck to everyone who is participating!!!

I was able to walk everyday, except for today. It's been a rough weather week for a lot of the country, so I expected several of you might not be able to walk.
But, what I'm seeing by your reports, you all did GREAT! You walked when you could, even if it was only half an hour during lunch or after work. I'm PROUD of you all! Keep up the good work and we'll walk again next week.
You guys are TERRIFIC!

Well to be honest, I picked a bad week to start this idea/challenge. The other girl who is in this office was on vaca all week so WHEN I took a lunch, it was never the full hour..AND I was running errands for the office, so I haven't gotten to walk all week. However, yesterday I did walk to the bank and to the tanning salon. Equalled about 0.10 of a mile, haha..but better than nothing! Better luck next week.....

I figure even being a little chilly, I can still walk. Of course raining it will be impossible...no where to walk indoors at my work, lol. BUT starting next Monday, I'm going to bring the tennis shoes and clothes and will walk for 30 minutes 3 times a week. I'm going to strap on my pedometer when I go so I can get an idea of how much I'm doing! :o) I doubt I'll have set days, just as long as I get out there!
Let's go!!!!

Let's get this challenge going.
How about everyone start by keeping track of how many days each week we walk during lunch. In the event of rain, walk inside the building.
I'm not that concerned about how long or how far everyone walks, just that you walk. At the end of each week, tell how many times you got to walk at lunchtime during your work week.
Get your sneakers on and start walking.
