I just completed a 8lbs in 4 wks challenge. I met my goal with small changes. We could do something similar.

I am looking for exercises that you can do in your office during the day. Any suggestions?

I'm so grateful to have a job but HATE the fact that I sit.......all day long..........at a desk in front of two computer monitors. I recently moved my work area upstairs so I try to force myself to take as many trips up and down the stairs as I can (time/schedule allowing). I am going to start wearing my pedometer again to see how many steps I do take during the course of the work day.

Happy Sunday all, Pat emoticon

eat2lose- I like all of your ideas! I am really struggling right now. I didn't lose anything this past week, and really think my weekends are to blame. I have forever had this mentality that if I eat well and exercise during the week, I should have the weekends free. Guess I should cut it down to just one meal, one free day a weekend. Fitting in exercise is a challenge for me. Elastic bands at work and squats at work would be great. Thanks.

Hello, newbie here. What's the current challenge? And here's a few challenge ideas in case it hasn't been done already.
-a whole week of eating packed lunches (I.e. Planning ahead)
-1wk of eating breakfast at home or packing it as well
-elastic band challenge 2sets of 10 bicep/tricep curls
-office squats 50 a day challenge
- a contest for the best most nutritious list of go to snacks to keep in your office drawer or cabinet
-best ideas of food to bring for office parties or special events

Just a few that came to mind

I'm so glad you are joining us! Sounds like you are doing excellent. I am so PROUD of you!

I bring extra clothes with me when the weather starts getting hotter, along with deodorant and some kind of body spray so I won't stink. Baby wipes are good for freshening up too.

With just getting over being sick, take it slow. We don't want you to get sick again.

I bring walking shoes and walk a mile (15-20 mins) every day at 3:00. I hope that the weather won't be too hot soon (I easily overheat). I'm thinking of doing another mile in the morning. I just might bring some things to freshen up. It gives me a welcomed break from work (tendancy to over work), and makes me more likely to do my stretches to prevent muscle strain from the computer.

I also have an hour lunch, but save that for doing other things. I've been packing my lunch, snacks, etc., and my weight has been FLYING off. I'm sure it's due to no longer grab fast food for lunch (and then sometimes dinner).

Okay Fartlekgirl, I'm in on the challenge. I'm just getting over sick, so I'll officially start over on the days I walk. Today was 1. ;)

I'm a lunch packer too, mostly for the same reasons! Except we don't have a cafeteria in my tiny office - but we are surrounded by fast food places/other bad for you places, plus they all cost too much!

Yeah - I pack my lunch at eat at my desk every day. That way I can control what I eat and snack on, I know how many calories are in everything. Also our cafeteria is mediocre & expensive!

Way to go! I bet those stairs are killer! Sounds like a great workout. I am very fortunate to work in a small office in a small town where I can go outside and walk/run all over the area.

I just got back from my lunch walk/run. I am also lucky in the fact that I have an entire hour for lunch, which I try to use at least 50 minutes of for my workout. Not everyone is that fortunate.

Do you also carry along your lunch so you can eat while you work in order to get your walk in?

We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.

I just joined this group. I also walk at work; I am in a very large 1-story office building (3,500 People) that used to be a factory. We have two long hallways with adjoining hallways, so it was figured that 1 big lap is just less than 1/2 mile. I brought tennis shoes to work and I do three laps everyday at lunch, it takes me about 23 minutes. Once it gets warmer out (only 50 today!) I will start lapping the parking lot. emoticon

I always thought that would be a nice idea, and when I was in college (back when I walked EVERYWHERE plus had plenty of time to work out) I worked on campus and in the summer me and my boss would take our meetings outside and walk during them when we could and it wasn't too terribly hot & humid.
At my job now I get 30 mins for lunch, that I barely get to even think about taking and we don't really have a good place to walk by our office. I think it's a great idea though! I'd like to be able to do it if I could.

I did that at the last job I had. There was a very nice neighborhood behind us so I used to change and go for a walk for at least half of my lunch hour, and give myself time to eat when I got back.
I am planning on doing the same as soon as it warms up, as I am working in the same area now. :o) But these 50* days have to go away!!! lol....and the rain.
I think it's fabulous idea though.

I'm new to this group, but thought I'd put in my 2 cents worth. I don't have time to walk while I'm working, but I can eat while working. So what I do is take a walk or run during my lunch.

I carry my workout clothes along with me so I can change into them to do my 50 minute walk/run. That gives me 5 minutes before and after for changing. I also pack some baby wipes and face cleansing wipes to clean up, plus I have a small size deodorant I tuck into the bag with a fragrance of some kind so I won't stink.

It works very well for me and has actually inspired a few others in the building I work in to want to do the same. They haven't yet, but they are talking about it. I know it won't be long and there will be others out there doing it too.

I also pack my lunch and snacks so I can eat a little before I take off on my walk/run and when I get back.

What do you think? I have a pedometer too.

We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.

I agree we need to move on to something else, just to keep it interesting. I have enrolled in a personal coaching program. It's career coaching, which a lot of people in my line of work do, but this guy has used his program to help people loose weight too. I started this week and to keep a long story short, it has really helped my state of mind. I'm excited to see how it will help me in my career as well as the weight loss.

Def, good job on walking! I'd like to park across our parking lot, but it's pretty small and when the weather is better (it's AWFUL right now!) I'm thinking I'll park at the building next to us. If I wasn't running so late in the mornings that would help too! LOL

Thanks Jess...everything else is just so stressful it's hard to worry about this stuff a lot but I want to make a point to log in and post here or on another one of my teams that's actually active - like the Done girls that Mikesgirl mentioned! It is an awesome group, very active and the people there are so nice, supportive & encouraging!

I think moving onto another challenge would be a great idea, just a matter of what.

Wow I feel like such a goof! I carry my pedometer in my bag everyday but have yet to remember to put it back on again. I am walking more and more though, I park across the plaza as much as possible to walk to and from the office. And if I need to go to the bank, I walk there too. Plus at home I've been on the treadmill. .... I have to be honest...most of my time is consumed in the Done Being the Fat Girl's threads...lol...I'm awful. For anyone who hasn't you should definetly check us out! So much fun and so full of support!!!!!

I did send out a verbal advertisement for this group over there as well!!!! :o)

Maybe we should try a new challenge, this was a good one, but things have been so busy that I am not walking much and when I am it is almost a run and I am not sure that my steps are being counted correctly.

ADOLL- keep going you can stay with it, I know how hard it can be but just think about how rewarding it will be to work hard and see results. Keep up the hard work!!

What happened to us? We were doing so good!!

I know that work & life in general has kind of completely taken over & taken control of me and what I've had time to do so I've barely been on here at all emoticon let alone have I even been working out or tracking my food. *sigh* it's one thing to know that myself and another to tell you all.

I haven't been wearing my pedometer either...I've been walking about the same at work, if not more the past couple of days. I did get some crunches in tonight though, yay! But not enough...

I say lets get ourselves back on track with our step counting or a new challenge!

Great Job everyone!
I did 2347 on Friday at work, but haven't worn it this weekend. I wish I would have, because I do a LOT more at home on the weekends than I do at work. I'm sorry to hear about all the snow, but the weather here is beautiful, and I got outside to walk with my husband and played with the dog a bit. It's supposed to stay nice all week so I'm going to get the bike down from it's hook in the garage and do some riding too.

That was yesterday for me, I did nothing, laid around all day. It rained all day, so it was one of those days. Today I have been making up for it though I have been going non stop. Enjoy the snow we did not get that much this year.

Whoohoo!!! Way to go!

I didn't write it down but if I remember correctly I had about 1700 something while at work, it was pretty dead there plus we closed early due to this awesome snow storm!!
Today has been a total lazy day so far, I'm still in my PJs and we won't be/can't be leaving the house - I don't think my little Civic could get through the deep snow! But fiance's Forrester could I'm sure, it's just not worth the effort/time, there's nothing we HAVE to do.

I wore it yesterday and took it off after dinner but for the life of me don't remember what the steps were. Of course I completely forgot it today, but I am going to try to wear it all weekend and see what I come up with.
We are planning to go to the park on Sunday if the weather is clear so that should be great!

For today at work I ended with 2322, I didn't keep wearing it after work because I forgot to move it to my jeans when I changed...plus I just sat at a meeting all night so no exercise either!
If I do the DVD this weekend I'll wear my pedometer to see how many steps it tells me!

Well I got mine last night and wore it around and of course had my normal problem of jarring it adding steps every time i had to go to the bathroom or sat down. So far since leaving the house this morning I have 2,460 steps in.

Yesterday for work I was at 2211, I took it off after work since by the time I voted, got home I had to change clothes really quick and go to my pre-wedding counseling at church!

Then I forgot it today...go figure!

I definitely think pain counts for something...I think my boots are 3inch heels but they're very comfy boots and don't usually make my feet hurt unless I'm standing a lot or wearing them too much beyond a normal work day.

Hey, get that discount if you can!! haha I'm pretty anti-Walmart, but my sister works there and will pick up stuff for people with her discount.
I didn't get as motivated as planned to unpack boxes, actually I forgot until Sunday afternoon as we were about to go to the grocery store. Luckily the fiance had one from work that he doesn't use so I have that until I find mine.

Were we supposed to just count work? Oops!! For the day I was at about 7418, I want to say I was around 2000 at work? We have a small office but I'm the lone employee right now (other than my boss) so I get to run all over! haha
Today is busy too, I'm already up to 750!

Oh, I know it'll pass...its just taking it's good old time and getting worse along the way! But it'll be OK in the end; if it's not OK then it's not the end! It's basically all work related so now I have 2 days off to have fun and take out on my bike (on a trainer in the basement...we have close to 1 ft of snow I think!), and my other exercises :D
Thanks :)

I know it sounds a little 'trite' but the phrase, "this too shall pass" has helped me through a boat load of crap in my life. Just try to enjoy your weekend :-) I'm going to buy my pedometer tomorrow and get started 'steppin' Let me know if I can be helpful to you.

Oh no!!! I hate that...I was supposed to do that in a class for college but our teacher didn't want to and there was another way out so she did that - I don't think I've ever love a prof so much haha

I've had an awful week between work and other stuff going on and after all and especially how today went I'm just having a...day...I don't have a word to describe it but I'm just at the end of my rope! No more patience, no more understanding, I'm done. My goal is to have some good old fashioned fun and then work my butt off tomorrow because I know it'll make me feel better :)

I think we're all going to have fun with this one! In the essence of recapping our week, I think I may have had the worst one. I had to do a public speaking training yesterday and it was videotaped!!! Talk about a real kick in the butt to the self esteem...it was agonizing!

I'll dig out my pedometere this weekend...maybe this will get me to unpack a box or two tomorrow!
I haven't done anything at work to be completely honest. I'm trying to take a 5 minute, no work thoughts break right now because this week has just been completely nonstop and I'm about to lose my mind! I haven't even had time to eat lunch most of the days :(

Anyways, this isn't the thread to whine in! haha
I'm excited to be in a challenge. Slackerish or not (I won't judge after my track record the past couple of weeks) I'm still glad you had the idea!

Sorry for being so slack! Geez...I started the conversation then bailed! Anyone want to be my personal motivator?
I will go find a pedometer this weekend...I used to have two.
My trouble with them is always jarring them because I cant' sit still....ever!
lol.
I have been keeping up my desk exercises as well. Calf raises, behind the head tricep thingys (yeah I forgot the name), wall pushups, stretching...stuff that's simple to do at a desk!

How about we all go out this weekend and get ourselves a pedometer, and start counting our steps next week. We can post our steps each day for the previous day and see what kind of little competitions we can come up with. My office was pretty small then too, but we got to the point that people were volunteering to go to the file room, and take out the trash, or whatever they could think of to get more 'steps' in for the day. The person who had the least had to make the morning coffee, or something like that for the rest of the group. It was really a lot of fun.

I'd be up to doing the pedometer challenge too, and anything else...I've not been so motivated to get myself moving lately and haven't been getting my exercise time in at home - I feel like I'm never even home to do it lately! ARGH!! I know I need to though and maybe with starting to do more at work it'll help give me a little boost.
I have the pedometere...somewhere at home haha I moved in November and haven't unpacked the last of the boxes yet and I know about where it should be. emoticon

I know I'm stuck at my desk a lot during the day too, but maybe this will make me move more! My office is very small (only 3 employees right now, we have 4 offices total...) so it isn't many steps to get anywhere in here but I could try to make more trips back and forth.

I think we just should pin down what we're going to do first (or if we want to do the 2 at once), make a starting day and go!!

I am in for any challenges that you all come up with. Something else that might give us some ideas is an article I read on here, 5-min Power Boosters for the office, I have it as a favorites on my page and I also printed it out an out it at my desk. My problem is I am stuck to a desk 9hrs a day and by the end of the day I have no energy and don't feel like doing anything, so I think this is a wonderful idea.

I remembered something that we did at my office a couple of years ago that could be a good challenge. We got some pedometers in the mail from a vendor, just cheap promo items, but we all put them on and were just playing around. It quickly got competitive, we started comparing totals at the end of the day to see who had the most steps, it was a lot of fun and got all of us moving more. We could all get one...they're really cheap and available just about everywhere....and record our steps each day. Anyone have other ideas on the details??

Have a Great Day Everyone!!

There's no way for me to do this in the set up I have at my office, but I'll commit to doing 15 extra minutes in my daily routine at home....will that work? If so...count me in!

Sounds like a great plan!! I always think about everything else I want to be doing while I'm sitting at work so with this I can actually do something about it!
I'm in!

Okay...I think I have one. SP fitness has a 15 minute desk workout with printable instructions and a demo video. I printed it yesterday. As long as you have a chair and a wall...you're good to go.
I challenge everyone to try to do this at least 2x a week (along with whatever else you are doing). Who's in?

I have no ideas either...but would be interested in doing one. Maybe someone with more brain power left at the end of the day than I have, can help us out :-)

That is a great idea!!
I don't have an ideas for the actual challenge but if I come up with anything I'll share it.
I've been on here for a little over a month but I haven't joined in any challenges yet and I'd really like to!
