Hey, there is a new product by Kelloggs. They are called Special K cracker chips. Not a cracker and not a chip. Come in 5 different flavors. I like the sour cream, and the cheddar ones the best. But here's the thing.....you can have 27 of them for 110 calories.

I've made homemade pita chips in the past, but it's been a while. I seem to remember cutting each pita into wedges and the separating the 'tops and bottoms', making a total of 16 pieces (I think). I sprayed them with Pam-type spray and sprinkled them with a little coarse salt (and anything else you would want, such as maybe some garlic powder. You can even make dessert chips by sprinkling cinnamon and a touch of sugar on them). Then I baked them, but really can't remember the temp or for how long. I'm sure that the recipe can be found either on this site or by googling. However, I do remember that they didn't keep too well. They seemed to get tough by the next day. They are excellent fresh, though. You become satisfied without eating too many--I think because they are so crunchy, you can't eat them too quickly and the crunch and taste are satisfying.

Thanks everyone. I haven't been able to access the internet for a while , but it is sure good to see that the great ideas and encouragement are still coming my way. Especially since camping and cook-outs seem to go hand in hand with chips galore !!!

Also , I am going to try to make my own baked chips, when I figure out how to use my new machine for very thin slicing.

My girlfriend just told me about Special K's new chips. Said you get quite a few, enough to take away your chip craving. I'm going to try 'em. Have no idea what the sodium is, but with the limited amount maybe it won't be too bad.

I don't generally keep snack foods like chips in the house, so that helps (usually). However, if I want to have the occasional junk food snack, it is difficult to keep from eating the whole bag too quickly. If it's in the house, I'll eat it. Buying the individual bags don't help, because then I just go back and get another bag and complain about how more expensive buying the individual bags are compared to the big bag!

If I do break down and buy some kind of junk food, I've found that it helps to take the item to work. I can stash it in my desk and take out one serving to take home each day. If it's not at the house, I won't eat more than the one serving and I'm certainly not going to get in my car and go back to my workplace to get more! (I'm not really tempted to eat the food at work, because we're not allowed to eat in our offices--we can have coffee in a non-spillable cup, but that's about it--and it's a pain to go down to the staff lounge.)

When I crave chips I don't want a substitute. So I eat the healthiest potato chip I can find and that is "Trader Joe's Kettle Cooked Olive Oil Potato Chips". These chips do not have all the additives and preservatives all the other chips have. The ingredients are simply potatoes, olive oil & salt. Here are the nutrition facts:

Serving size: approx. 14 chips
Calories: 140
Calories from fat: 60
Total fat: 7g
Saturated fat: 0.5g
Trans Fat: 0g
Cholesterol: 0mg
Sodium: 120mg
Potassium: 470mg
Total Carbohydrates: 18g
Dietary Fiber: 1g
Sugars: 0g
Protein: 2g
Vitamin C: 10% of daily value
Iron: 2% of daily value

As you can see there is no cholesterol and no trans fat! And look at the sodium to potassium ratio.

I also have weakness for chips. But I have been substituting Sun chips when I can. Are Sun chips a good alternate?

Thanks you guys,
I'm sure I can use some of each of these helpful ideas. (I won't say) my favorite and one I have used in the past is SMASHING them into smitherines. LOL
I do like keeping my menus simple and healthy. It is this terrible chip addiction. I did find unsalted Tims chips and Trader Joes unsalted tortillas , but I still hit his salted ones. I crave the salt. I eat a lot of fresh spinach to help calm the cravings and will not give up. I am more than able to overcome through Christ who strengthens me.
Thanks again
Cyndee

your husband must help you. get rid of the chips.

find foods that work with your chemistry. i created this meal on my own. i can't seem to loose weight if i eat any grain products. so one day i experimented.

i make this mixture for breakfast , lunch and dinner. i have lost 28 pounds in 14 weeks. i cook

4 large portabella mushrooms sliced, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, 4 large onions sliced, 2 large green peppers, 3 cans green beans, 1 can rutabaga and 5 sliced chicken sausages.

it makes enough for at least 4 days, three meals a day. total cost is 12 dollars. i buy the mushrooms and chicken at sams club. sounds crazy but it taste good and most importantly it's working. i'm not hungry . if i feel the urge to cheat i go get a fork full of my mixture. i chew very slowly as to enjoy my meal.

i have added a small banana and grapes for my snacks and to be a fix for my sweet tooth.

you can add other foods into your menu. just know what works with your body chemistry.

I have gone from 198 to 170 pounds. i can now fit into a size 14 comfortably. i feel so much better. think of carrying a 2 year old around your waist every minute of every day. no i am not done. on the obese chart i have gone from being obese to just plain fat. my goal is to drop another 22 pounds. then i will be happy, healthy and never allow myself to get in this condition again.

one might say eating the same food every day would get boring. not true. when you look in the mirror and can see the difference it's totally worth it. once i reach my goal i will change my menu. not until then.

portion sizes are critical to your success. exercise has to become a way of life. good luck

Hi:

I try to have some healthy snacks handy. (my husband is thin also) He can eat anything. When he has ice cream, I have fat free Greek yogurt. When he has chips, I eat a few tortilla chips (count them out for a serving.). I also have apples, raisins, baby carrots, celery (with a tsp peanut butter. Hope this helps. emoticon emoticon

Put them in the microwave or oven ....until you have to use it. Or the cupboard. You aren't throwing them away. You are getting them out of your face. That's fair.

Or beat them into submission. Your hubby will like potato chip dust, right? LOL.

I recently, (Since joining this site on 24 Aug.11) declared war on the bad snack habit . Even though I have healthy snacks to choose from, I raid my husbands snacks of the less healthier kind. CHIPS . I could use some back up statagies to help me pass up this in my face snack cashe. We live in a small space. I dont know where he could keep them without crushing them. I pass back and forth in front of them trying to ignore them but they always seem to break through my resolve not to give into their temptation. any statagies I can use to help me overcome the attack of the chips????
Thanks Cyndee
